Cambodia and Cambodians - in my experience - are beautiful. If this video is hard to watch, that’s fine, I understand. I’ll see you in the next video. ❤️
Thank you for sharing my peoples history. You have captured well the stories and emotions, that are real even today. We appreciate when visitors learn Khmer and try to speak the local language. You visit and expose some of the best places in the countries you travel. Keep on moving on! Arkoun

Before the Khmer Rouge, specifically in the mid 60’s, Cambodia was at it’s prime time or “golden era”, which means lots of economic growth and prosperity. Nobody would even imagine that Cambodia would turn into a hell in just 10 years.
Love the kid at 1:17 screaming at the top of his lungs "What's your name?!" Then they all giggled in delight when you told them 🥰 I believe the first site you visited used to be an orchard farm and the second site used to be a high school before the Khmer Rouge. What I find most upsetting is that there is no justice for the victims. With the exception of a few high ranking Khmer Rouge who stood trial in their latter years, most of the Khmer Rouge who committed the atrocities walk free to this day. Some are currently in high positions and have been since the 80s/90s.
He was so cute hahaa! Good English too. Little cutie. Yeah it’s really sad. That would be really hard for every one affected. There is no closure of justice. The whole thing is terrible 😞
I love how respectful you are to each culture/country you visit ❤ history is so important and essential for the future. Even if it is a sad and terrible memory. Thank you for educating us on this, Josie. ❤️

Thanks Josie for visiting Cambodia! I really appreciate your genuine interest in Khmer Rouge history. I was born in Cambodia and moved to the U.S. I still think that Cambodians is one of the nicest people out there. Some of my family members went to that dark period, and it just flipped Cambodia upside down, from a developed country to a country that had nothing. Cambodian leader at the time, impact of the Cold War, and the Cambodian civilians who suffer. I hope it will never happen to Cambodia or any nations in the world. Thanks for the video!
On my first trip I felt I had to visit the Genocide Museum and Killing Fields. They are not fun places and pretty emotional but highly necessary experiences. This country has been through a horrific period and not that long ago too.
It felt weird clicking like on this video. But, I am so impressed by the respect and loving heart you showed during this whole video. It is so important for people to be aware and appreciate the history of the countries they travel to and to hopefully learn from the past so it isn't repeated. Thank you Josie, well done

Hey Josie! Thanks for coming to my Grandma's State! We have great food there! Warning! A lot of dogs! Even people speak english! I am glad to see you in Cambodia!
Hello, my grandmother experienced the hardships of the Pol Pot regime and endured immense suffering. My aunt, who was only 13 at the time, was forced to relocate to Canada due to the genocide and war. My grandmother sought refuge in the Philippines before eventually settling in Norway. Unfortunately, my great aunt passed away in October in the United States. Fortunately, all other members of my family survived these challenging circumstances.
When we got independence from France, Cambodia was a pearl of Asia in 1960s but sadly the effects of cold war and at those times Cambodian government helped Vietnam that made USA dropped the bomb at Cambodian border then we fell in to the civil war 1970-1998
I felt so sad and a shame whenever I hear about this site. School was turned to be a genocide area and the most disgusting is they killed their own people. I feel so pity on my beloved country and people who died in that time. The area has just been cleaned up. I used to visit there around 10 years ago, everything was kept in the original manner and really really made me sad.
