@@634983 this is true, but only for a fraction of all people. the vast majority is not able to correct themselves, no matter how many videos they watch or books they read. so for most, spending more on lessons makes sense.
very nice! I just got a war bird 9 degree from the side of the road on bulky item trash day. still very good condition. going to the range this evening.
I still have a steelhead strong 3 and love that club. Best feeling 3w off the face I've ever seen. I tried hitting my old Titleist 975D against my 10 yr newer 905T and it was only a handful of yards difference. I think it's the modern balls that really make the new clubs shine. We weren't using Pro V1s in 2000.
Good promotional video from Golfbidder. Nevertheless, the oldest driver challenge was quite interesting. Who needs a new driver when you can carry it 284 yards? It is indeed the indian, not the arrow.
I want to see you hit an r9 superdeep. I still have it bagged and love it. No reviews on here to show trackman forescope etc..results. Im very curious to see what you can do with it!!
I love all the comments about how small the heads are. I can remember when the first Big Berthas came out, and they looked HUGE to us. Recall a TV commentator seeing one and saying it looked like a watermelon on a stick 😂
Fantastic reviews and so refreshing to see how the old tech matches up to today's. This vid kept me smiling the whole way through!! I think retro clubs on course might be the new cool....
Distance aside (and often not even that) clubs get crappier and crappier in any type of terms of long-lasting construction, despite engineering and quirks and bells and whistles. Sheep are herded into wanting new new new while the OEMs design them to look crappier sooner and sooner and be more disposable than ever, weird shapes and plastic and paint all over the place... just disposable.
There is a never ending debate that the big names in golf (Callaway, Titleist, Ping, Taylormade, etc.) make the best clubs. I would like to see a similar challenge with second tier or even third tier name brand clubs (name brands few have heard of) to see the numbers (carry distance, spin, ball speed, etc.).
Jazz, Tour Select, Slazenger, etc... Why not? to add, I used Jazz Fat Cats for years and while I'm not as good as the group I usually played with, distance was always comparable. They all used Taylormade or Callaway. Fat Cats are a great set for beginners shooting 100 to intermediate golfers shooting high 80s/low 90s
Just a quick shout out to golfbidder got my M2 shipped to Sweden in a couple of days and it's in impeccable condition and they called it a 9/10. Awesome store.
Good fun, good vid. Not much difference after 20 odd years of tech. Love the 18th at Silvermere. You hit your 2nd over the lake to the green with the terrace (OB) behind it. Good laugh to sit on the terrace with a beer watching your mates hit into the water, raising a big cheer!.
I played with a Big Bertha Hawkeye driver for a couple of years. Changed it at the end of last year. Turning 16 this year so I was playing with a driver 3-4 years older than me. lol. Great driver though, distance was good. Also had the 1996 big bertha irons. Still use the 3 iron in my current bag, amazing forgiveness and distance.
I have the SAME model Big Bertha Hawkeye driver, with the same loft & shaft, bought it for $10 at a thrift store. I have out driven guys with their $400 toaster-sized headed drivers and they just shake their heads. If I had a more reliable swing, I'd imagine I could take their money too.
I used to play alot of golf with a buddy of mine where we used to live. He used a $25 Top Flite driver his daughters gave him for Father's Day, and hit it just as long or longer than I hit my Cleveland Hibore XL. Still have the Cleveland in my bag.
imacmadman22 at driving ranges I do kind of a parlor trick where I can use any driver and hit it looong. Guys will ask me to try their club to see how long I can push it but it gets really interesting when someone has something comical or old.
LOL respect your history Son!! I remember when the Callaway BB was introduced and we thought: "This is the size of a babies head!". Little did we know the future of VW sized heads was yet to come! ...I havent found more fairways as a result but thats not the point! Enjoy, and thanks for a fun, nostalgic video!
i still have a warbird driver. the old girl goes as far as my new one but its about the feel and weight of them . they are nt designed to hit the ball further but more engineered to give YOU the best chance of hitting the ball further.
Pretty much since drivers are maxed out to the legal limit by the USGA and R&A in both size and hotness of the face over a decade ago, club manufacturers have to think of innovative ways of making clubs more sellable such as increasing forgiveness, changing loft and lie angles, new shafts and colors. If you hit a driver on the button consistently on a maxed out COR clubface, then there's no reason for you to upgrade.
I honestly think that overall clubs from a few years ago were better matched with regards to shafts and clubhead weight.. Most of the drivers today have shafts too light for clubhead weight, makes for all kinds of problems
I think there is a big difference ricks second shot off the toe would be in the sweet spot slightly towards the toe on a modern driver probably carrying over 300 yards, it carried 253 with the old equipment
After watching this video and the 1st part with the old clubs, I am unsure if manufacturers are conning us, new clubs would not go better than the ones you guys have been hitting. I remember having a Callaway Warbird 3 wood and it went further than my driver at the time, approx 270 yards, which for me was long. Keep up the V logs really enjoying them all.
Unbelievable! I still have that Callaway War Bird and I used to hit it pretty good. I'm lefthander. But my best years have gone by and I enjoy this new R15. But I'm not gonna hit it like you guys, UNFORTUNATELY!
Ball speed highs there of 172mph for Pete and 163mph for Rick respectively. They are comparable to your numbers with the modern gear guys! Some lovely ball flights there too!
I love the challenges you guys do and that one was a classic. Had to laugh at the size of the club heads; 253cc compared to the normal today of 460cc Cheers!
How about a round between the two of you. Player 1: Old golf club tech + modern ball tech vs Player 2: new golf club tech + old ball tech? could be some interesting results.
hey pete, i just got a quick question. so the gap between my driver and my 3w is only about 10yards. my driver loft is at 9.5 and my 3w is 14.5.... If I bent my 3w to like 10 degrees, will it go further than my driver and become an driver replacement?
I remember when I was younger(in my 40's) I won a bet by being able to carry my two iron 270, owned both of the 0 irons I know of, loved those low irons
I have the driver rick is using in Ruger Titanium...I can bomb it 250 yards although inconsistently...I try my friends newer tech driver and its just too easy to hit...Love learning on the old classics
The spin out of rough is the only difference as the bigger groove allows more dirt/grass to get in and allow the face to spin the ball, from fairway there will be no difference. The face is what spins the ball not the grooves hence rough faces etc letting your wedge rust or milled faces
Back in 1980, my Sr year in High School I averaged (total distance) 285 yds with a Rawlings Persimmon and a wound ball. We played in the fall (Ohio). See if you guys can beat that.
The only driver I have never broken is a 9 degree Biggest Big Bertha with a factory stiff shaft. It was my first decent driver and I bought it used in 1999. The fastest driver I have killed was a Krank Rage 5 degree in 2012 before my back was shot.

It's just the fact the loft of the clubs suit Rick better because he hits up on it, Pete needs a low lofted club because of how much he hits down on the ball which will cause it to balloon up and spin more if the loft is too high.

$1000 on beer, youtube is free
I would do half and half
lessons are pointless. all the info you need is out there. better off hitting the range

I'm a novice lady golfer & have both of them in my bag. Love them & now reaching just over 200yds with them.
+Dee Ayling-Bate good stuff
Dee Ayling-Bate looool im a junior high guy and i hit my driver 255yds
TruE ApEX 200 is very high for a female so why are you acting your drive is out of this world compared to her
TruE ApEX lol im junior high too, 5 hc, 300 yards with my driver
TruE ApEX im in middle school and i can hit my driver over 500 yards. Pick it up scrub!
very nice! I just got a war bird 9 degree from the side of the road on bulky item trash day. still very good condition. going to the range this evening.
Beardless Rick & glasses on Pete 😂 finding these older videos are class
I like seeing the ball flight on these floodlit vlogs. No need for pro-tracer. 😊 ⛳
Still love these classic videos. So much fun watching you and Rick dial in the right swing for these drivers.

Love the sound these old clubs make
Massive congratulations on making 50,000 subscribers Peter. Well done mate, and please keep the vids coming?

Damn, the moment you realise your driver is being used...

I think you mean shame.
I had one of those!
The Nemesis 360 fff
I had the great big and the Hawkeye 😎

The first one I hit as a teen for years shortened and I love it, I really recommend it for a cheap alternative
One of my favorite videos from you guys. Would love to see more of these videos, comparing some of the older gear on GC2. Loved it!
This reminds me so much of Alan Partridge when you're running round the warehouse! Rick''s face in particular

nice last shot from Pete.
love the sound of strike.
Loving these old school vids! Refreshing to see!
The guy who grabbed the original Great Big Bertha, produced some great numbers when he caught it solid. High launch, low spin. Nice
I like these old days! We need another Pete VS Rick challenge it’s been so long
I played with a Big Bertha Hawkeye driver for a couple of years. Changed it at the end of last year. Turning 16 this year so I was playing with a driver 3-4 years older than me. lol. Peter generates a lot more ball speed than rick, but a lot more spin. I love peters ball flight by the way
Awesome! LOVE this! you guys manage to make golf so much more interesting! keep it up! :)
Great challenge.Would have liked to see you both try wooden woods like the Toney Penna persimmon which I had years ago.
Love golf bidder such a good company to deal with...
I still use my hawkeye 8 degree haha, I do want to change to a newer driver but my numbers are really hard to beat on the hawkeye

superb i've got a 6.5 version of 1 of these may put it back in the bag😀
I've wanted to see a video like this for years see how much clubs have actually improved with data to back it up.
Haha! Rick grabbed my Driver that I still use. Think I need an upgrade.
wow what a bomb! looks like so much fun... what a great set up! you guys are living the dream
I've owned both of these drivers 😂
I currently play a Big Bertha V series. I'm a big fan of Callaway drivers and fairway woods!

I have the same driver Rick got. One of my friends gave it to me. It is a great club.
I know I have quite an old Big Bertha lying around somewhere.
I'm using a big Bertha now...got it for a tenner
wow, pete's ball flight 5:00. i hit one out of five like that and i have been golfing for 10 yrs with hcp4. Yes i know, i am stil crap
I liked my old war bird. It was in 9 degrees loft but I could never crush it like you guys. Like the vids.
Ball speed highs there of 172mph for Pete and 163mph for Rick respectively. They are comparable to your numbers with the modern gear guys! Some lovely ball flights there too!
+N LS Peters ball flight was amazing, ricks looked like overdraws but numbers were good.
+Carl Broadbent Overdraws is a bit of an understatement, his 2nd shot had 45* spin axis tilt.

You guys are also probably the two best golftubers by production, content and personality so keep it up! big fan!
What an intense start to the video haha
Moral of the story, Rick is hitting it better this evening than Peter.
Love these challenges! Try and get your hands on some Persimmon! I have a video of me hitting a persimmon wood.. No margin for error there!
+GrandmasterN agreed! A few summers ago I hit Ping eye 2 3w & 5w and my hands still sting a bit from the miss-hits! Haha
If they're only measuring carry why not hit a cut?
id be interested to see if they have any old Square Groove wedges and how they compare to todays wedges in spin
The spin out of rough is the only difference as the bigger groove allows more dirt/grass to get in and allow the face to spin the ball, from fairway there will be no difference. The face is what spins the ball not the grooves hence rough faces etc letting your wedge rust or milled faces
What? No persimmon driver on the racks? They're smooth and solid. Nothin' like classic wood.
Surprising result! What happened finchy?! Great vid guys
I figured someone was going to pull a persimmon driver out of a storage closet.
next time :)
Back in 1980, my Sr year in High School I averaged (total distance) 285 yds with a Rawlings Persimmon and a wound ball. We played in the fall (Ohio). See if you guys can beat that.
Jon Lanier nice
Im still rocking my Big Bertha that i bought new in high school... 18 years ago....
The only driver I have never broken is a 9 degree Biggest Big Bertha with a factory stiff shaft. It was my first decent driver and I bought it used in 1999. The fastest driver I have killed was a Krank Rage 5 degree in 2012 before my back was shot.
the music got me super pumped up... 😂
Fantastic comp. Loved it!
Fun with these challenges!
Sparks coming off the clubs?
Im still using an old callaway 3 wood, I struggle with a driver off the tee so does anyone have any suggestions on some new 3 woods?

used to hit my burner bubble 300
That was great! Loved it.
I would just pick an M2 and take the 15 yard knock :D
Damn... Rick is absolutely destroying Mr. 350! Ouch...
Great challenge!
And you two couldn't find any of the old woodies? Now that would have been a challenge!
Pete's ball flight far superior to Rick's. To hell with the yardage.
TEAMPETE!!
You mean 5k spin with the driver? To hell with that...

+mrjamesgrimes Rick was all about pull hooks. Would never have found a fairway.
+Mark Scott Good shape if you can control it, but a little nerve wracking with ob left. Pete's ball flight looks like it was shot on a laser line.
Should find a bubble burner they were beasts
I own that club... the 10 great big bertha... Great club .
hawk eye woods are extremely good even compared to the stuff we have today
1995 younger than my irons... probably my 3 wood as well.
what program is tracking the ball info?
ouch Pete that one hurts ! Do you think you don't hit the driver up enough ?
It's just the fact the loft of the clubs suit Rick better because he hits up on it, Pete needs a low lofted club because of how much he hits down on the ball which will cause it to balloon up and spin more if the loft is too high.
I hit my 3 wood so much better than my 460 cc driver. This makes me want to try an older driver with a smaller head.
