2012 really does feel like a lifetime ago. Lots of skateboarding, beer pong, 4loko, Xbox 360, parking lot moshing, Warped Tour, Taco Bell, and my friends doing a vigil in the park for Mitch Lucker when he died. I definitely can’t replicate that time period and activities nowadays but it was fun at the time.

I went SO HARD for Hellogoodbye back in the day. Living in so cal not too far from their home base, it was easy to see them at almost every show they had in a 70 mile radius for a few years 😅
Breathe Carolina was great. Classy not classic is just a groove. Hello Fascination is a collection of great singles. Hell is what you make it is a club banger that released during my peak college party days. Contender for best 3album fun.

My friend just worked doorman at an Owl City show and I said "what was the crowd like" and he said "it was a sold out show and only 7 people went outside to smoke"

Never liked Breathe Carolina BUT I will tell you I saw them with I See Stars back when both bands were barely coming out, and I will tell you that was one of the FUNNEST shows I had ever been to in my life. It was equally both a non-stop mosh pit and non-stop dance party.
Here in Your Arms was huge when I was in middle school. Got big way outside of the alternative music fanbase.

I remember finding owl city when I was in high school and I remember there being like no info on his music. My producer friends and I found he used Reason at the time and we were like ohhhh man oh my god we gotta try Reason. So much fun nerding out. His mixes and production still hold up. Good times 👌
I can tell you EXACTLY what happened to scene kid music: people started favoring music that made them seem cultured instead of music that makes their brain produce chemicals to make them happy! IT'S NOT A PHASE; IT'S A LIFESTYLE! 🤘😎🤙
2012-13 were probably the best years of my life so far honestly.
Hellogoodbye's EP and 1st album was great! They changed their style after their first album and it went downhill. Owl City was great too. I remember the whole Myspace scene era fondly. Everything from the crabcore electrocore bands, crunkcore, to the neon synth pop punk bands, to the bedroom electro-emopop one man band groups. It was a great, chaotic, experimental time where people did whatever they wanted music wise.
Funny that this is called scene kid music… because in my experience there is not just one “scene”, there are so many. Rockabilly scene, the raver/electronic scene, the jam band scene, the punk scene, etc etc.
Animosity absolutely blew my mind with every release. It was the most technical hardcore I'd ever heard and I loved every second of it!

Bonnie taylor shakedown was hellogoodbyes first hit that turned me onto them off their ep. Loved that song
the whole MySpace scene era peaked with Ocean Eyes by Owl City, that album still bangs to this day and paved the way for other beloved electronic musicians like Porter Robinson. He doesnt deserve the hate he’s getting.

The Andrew WK poster in the Animosity video really adds to the early aughts rocker aesthetic.
I was a partial crunkcore emo, i dont get nostalgic for the music, i get war flashbacks in my head of random lyrics being screamed from songs i havent heard since 2010-2012, i don't even know which songs sometimes. I mean, i mostly listned to post hardcore and metalcore from 2003-2010 but the crunkcore part of the phase was just haunting.

Not a fan of Owl City, but Taylor Swift had ever written a song called Enchanted about him. I HIGHLY recommend THE ORIGINAL Version (NOT Taylor's Version) of that song!!! It's good, even though it's NOT close to any of my favorites.
And Carly Rae Jepsen has a song called Tonight I'm Getting Over You, it's produced by my FAVORITE legendary producer Max Martin. And it's also in the same album as Good Time and Call Me Maybe. I HIGHLY recommend that song!!! It's one of my FAVORITE from her!!! The production is SOOOO FUCKING GOOD!!! (The audio version of the music sounds different from the music video version btw, can't say which one is better, but the audio version has more layers when it comes to the drop.)
And 2012 is REALLY MY FAVORITE music year!!!
