One trick for welding the cage in the car/truck that I use since your doing plates is to drill or cut a hole just larger then the cage in the floor. Just set in the plates over the hole, bend and tac it all in, pull the plates drop the cage through the holes weld it up put the plates back and finish.
No way, this video couldn’t have been more perfectly timed. I just watched the previous episode on this truck last night and was bummed I didn’t get to see more.
that one bar with the 4 bends, we call that a 4 point saddle when we run conduit for electrical and we are going over some obstacle, and they are hard to keep straight! but if you make marks on each end of the tubing, it can help you keep it straight when you are bending, just as a tip I learned, and if there is a seam, like there is on EMT, you can also use that to help keep the bends straight. great video, Nate!
Only found your channel recently and I REALLY respect your honesty, and your down to earth kind heartedness, I also really respect the effort you put in videographically, it’s SO easy to just thank on and finish a project and half ass the filming but you do both very well
Hey bro love your videos,I'm a yj owner living in San Diego and just wanted to say thanks for all the great tips from tools to easy steps on all the builds you have done to your jeep and your utility trailer . Hope to keep up with your projects as I'm learning from you alot just using them on yj
Dude, your videos are TV quality type stuff! Everytime I come on RUclips I look at my notifications hoping you’ve uploaded a new video. Good up the good work man I love your content! And that’s fabrication!
Great job man. I'm surprised that you didn't go with angle iron instead of flat bar for the seat mounts. It's probably fine, but angle should add more rigidity, keep it from flexing (even imperceptibly) in off camber situations and keep those welds healthy. Just 2 cents Thanks for the tip about ERP seats as well 👍
I don't use my seat slider to adjust length, but I do use it fairly often to access the open space behind the bottom of the seat. I also have a single cab and storage feels more valuable than gold as my daily.
your cinematography and editing are without equal! always enjoy watching your stuff!! now the comment, when you butt weld and slug the joint you should also put in a few plug welds. i know you know this, but it would be a good thing to mention to the "Dirt-bags".
Damn, your video production, editing, and cuts\music\audio is right up there with any cable DIY show. Think, HotRod TV, Trucks, Shadetree Mechanic, etc.... Nicely done Nate!
Fellow plumber here, awesome seeing techniques from the trade applied in fabricating. Looking good man. To bad Ferguson can't screw up your orders now :/
Saw you doing layout on the floor, one trick I've used is the 3/4/5 method for squaring things up. Maybe you already know it, if not it's a neat trick you can look up. We use it in Feet for carpentry but it can be reduced down to inches as well.
Great project! I enjoy all of your fab work. Those PRP seats look great and have a nice price as well!! I got my stickers in the mail I ordered today!! Now to decide where they will go on my Jeep
That is a nice tube bender. I see you have the deluxe return springs. I am surprised you bent the tube that meets the cowl so it installs flat. Did you consider angling the two bends you put in it at the ends down slightly? See 6:14. Don't get me wrong, it looks good and you do great work and maybe you were just sick of messing with that tube.
Hi Nate in my sand car I did some hardened quick release pins just on the back seat tabs. That way if I need to get behind the seat I can pull the pins and tilt the seat forward. But anyways another great video!
Nate! Perfect answer! He is absolutely right🤘...XJ will destroy themselves. I have been ordering parts slowly 😔 like 300$ bucks at a time...not cheap! Just on a budget 😁. Front, middle and rear frame stiffeners , rock sliders, tie in brackets...and just ordered and waiting for a steering kit from dirtbound. CAN'T WAIT to start welding this month! ...then I will hopefully have the $$$ for a roll cage to tie it all in together😁😁😁 Oh ya...dirtbound has great stuff! But the wait time sucks balls! It's take's a month to get anything! Rock sliders I ordered on the 12th...its the 5th of may and hasn't even shipped yet😔😔😔
Great job explaining things! Any chance you can do a video on technique for notching and welding tube. I'm learning to weld/fabricate, but finding the physical act of welding the coped tube joints difficult. Thanks! And keep doing what you're doing!
Nice work wish I had more time for my rigs . Love those seats nice that you can design them to how you want I might have to jump on that wagon cheers .
Awesome videos man. I enjoy every single video of yours i watch. Tons of great information. I wish i could come hangout for a couple weeks and learn to fabricate lol One day though. Ill have my own shop and start my collection of tools
Wouldn't be a bad idea on the sleeves to drill 2 holes on either of the outer tubes and add some plug welds. Think you will add any tube along the front of the roof, and/or add the vertical tube in the windshield?
Looking good... didn't expect anything less, your work and programs are all top shelf. Couple questions... are you going to install any gussets in the corners ? Are you going to come up and out from the frame to the bottom legs of the cage ? Are you going to install one or two bars, in the center of the roof. Tying the front bar and rear bar together ? Rollcages should be as good looking as they are functional.
Do you plan on adding door bars? I think you could pull off some low door bars with a bend that kinda follow the seat lines... would add a lot of extra strength to the cage and make it look more complete/professional for the look you're going for. Either way, sick cage! My comanche will one day be caged
I know I'm late to the party... Had some questions: I thought 90° terminations needed gussets? 45° on both sides. That prevents shearing and push. Also provides you with a place to weld triangle sheet with dimple dies (which we all love). An A in the windshield looks cool and keeps the roof from folding the A pillars in a roll over. A V from top center windshield to the center floor bar and back up to rear center halo would keep you nearly crush proof. These might be WRC specs, but you are off road...
Is tying the roll cage to the hoop a good idea? It would probably stiffen everything up, but you need to cut the holes in the cab... on the other hand, if it was a good idea it would be more common. I was thinking about the ways of cheating with the paint. Maybe bend the tubing, cut to fit, take it out, paint it (lave a few inches around the weld area) and then weld it together in the truck, so you end up with only small areas to paint around the welds.
How goes it Nate have to say I have always enjoyed your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and creativity. I'm really digging your jig that you have on your vice for tube notching. Any chance of sharing where u picked it up?? All the best man.
I need the exact same cage for my J200 Custom Cab Gladiator project. So if you could bend up 1 more of everything for me that would be great. I will chip in for tube and shipping. ;-) Nice work!
The only reason I would ever move to Utah is to be this guy's neighbor. I wonder if he would like to vacation in Florida and hang out at my shop every now and then 😂🤣
Could you make a video on how to buy a used jeep? I have one (tecnicaly my dads) but I would like another one/trail beater when I'm older and have more money.
Also since everytging you build is so nice and well done its o ly fair you fix the rust to make the rest of the truck as good as the motor/cage/ bumpers/ body armor...
To be honest, your philosophy of building as you go and letting the brain fill in the blanks and head off the problems is my kinda way of doing things too.
Great work! Looking forward to seeing what you do with this truck. One question is there a reason you didn't add a bar above the windshield? I get that this is cage is more of a style choice but I would consider adding that bar for strength, and would also work well if you wanted to add any switches or mounts up high. Just a thought, keep up the good work!
I want to keep the visors and to do that I would have had to locate the tube really low. Everything changes when you don't have a flat windshield like on the wrangler lol. It make little details like this more difficult
My seat belts messed up in my tacoma and the replacements cost as much as aftermarket 5points so i wanna see how you do yours to give me an idea on how to do it. nice!
Super awesome! Plan to cage out the XJ and do an old school flat dash as well (envisioning something like what was in my CJ-5) someday. Great video showing me some ideas of where I can take it. Also, where did you get your notcher and roller?
Just started following you. Great videos! Would you have a link to the level that you are using on your bender? A tip from someone that uses a blue wrench a few times a day, cover everything, especially glass, body parts & those brand new seats. You will have small pits on all of it,from your grinding to welding it will be everywhere.Just my .02.

Really happy to see you pick up this project again 👌
I’d love to see you do a custom e-brake setup on one of the rigs. Another thing they will tech you on.
Only found your channel recently and I REALLY respect your honesty, and your down to earth kind heartedness, I also really respect the effort you put in videographically, it’s SO easy to just thank on and finish a project and half ass the filming but you do both very well
Thank you very much! I appreciate you taking the time to give me a positive comment 👍
Floor layout is rad! Building the cage just like at work. I'm a local 32 plumber and man it's rad to see another UA member doing stuff like this
Union strong brother 👊
The best part about your channel is the broad scope of projects you do. Love it man.

I’ve said it before, but I love your videos! I’m not even a Jeep guy, but the fabrication content is great. You make it look easy.
Thank you!
LBDT baby!
All right Nate! Been over 6 months.....need more Low Buck Diesel Truck!

Right now as the video comes to an end, I can see a great looking center console with dual cup holders
You are killing the fab work 👌💯
I don't use my seat slider to adjust length, but I do use it fairly often to access the open space behind the bottom of the seat. I also have a single cab and storage feels more valuable than gold as my daily.
Another great fab video Nate. Thanks again.
Us Oregon coast jeepers really appreciate your content!
👊
Nice intro Nate. You just keep getting better and better.
Thanks man 👍
Another great video. I love watching your fab work and ingenuity. Keep the videos coming, from someone stuck at home, Thank you!
your cinematography and editing are without equal! always enjoy watching your stuff!! now the comment, when you butt weld and slug the joint you should also put in a few plug welds. i know you know this, but it would be a good thing to mention to the "Dirt-bags".

Another great video Nate.

Definitely keep this a low buck build. Not sure what you should build with the VW engine you have started. Maybe a full tube frame buggy or crawler.
Fellow plumber here, awesome seeing techniques from the trade applied in fabricating. Looking good man. To bad Ferguson can't screw up your orders now :/
Looking forward to more videos of the truck
Love the style. Simple, practical and reliable.
Very nice. Love your work👍

You can even go for 6 8 10
Or 12 16 20 in inches, its easier to get more accuracy like that I've found
Another great video!!! Thanks Nate!!
It’s nice to see you’re keeping busy during the quarantine keep up the great work and keep passing The great information thank you.😎👍
Awesome truck and roll cage set up, can't wait to see more of this build ...you're doing a phenomenal job man.🤙👍
Much appreciated buddy 👊
Loved seeing the #lowbuckdieseltruck back on the channel. Your production is getting so much better dude! My favorite video yet!
good to be back to this truck..keep em coming man..love your work
100k in less than a week! Exciting!!! Glad the channel is growing! Keep them Vids coming!
Thanks!
Love the roll cage dash creation idea...can’t wait to see it!!
You make this very interesting to watch and you are certainly a skill fabricator.
I’ve got a grand Cherokee and I am wanting to build it up and this roll cage just gave me inspiration and many great ideas
Very creative sir. Cool video.
Man that truck is so awesome. Love what you’re doing to it and thank you for sharing.
Thank you for taking the time to post a positive comment 👍 I appreciate the support
finally an update !!! Can't wait to see more !
Great videos Nate!!
Look’s great Nate!
Like the new intro!
Thanks!
They need a two thumbs up button 👍👍
Top notch content. Thumbs up as always!
I need to stop being lazy and build my cage. Keep up the killer videos. They help keep me going 🤘🏻
Good job and nice trikes to cage
Looks great, can’t wait for the rest!
Awesome. Saving this for when it'll be needed.
Thx!

One of these days I’ll have a project to build and go back through all of your videos to figure it out. 👍
Just watched the whole series. Hopefully we get an episode 16 soon
Bad Ass Truck! Love it!
Absolutely great video. I wish I lived near you. I would gladly employ you to build my cage

I'm not interested in doing a full restore on this truck. Any rust, dents and scratches will remain. Adds character
This video was perfectly timed, I really want to put a roll bar/cage in my Porsche
They make a kit for Porsche just Google it I wouldn't go welding and fabing like this is in a bad ass Porsche but if its a boxster go for it
