    Rather than use plastic tape I cut strips of old t-shirts, socks, any stretchable fabric into strips to use as ties. This works great!
    If you don't have any suitable fabric, thrift shops (op shops) will always have some.

    Please help me Richard!🙏 We live in Michigan & are totally bitten by the Dragon Fruit bug.😀 We need info on how to make our trellis & soil mix as lightweight as Possible! We will have to bring them up 2 steps & indoors this fall. I am disabled & have to get help(sons) to move all my plants inside(quite a few). But my sons & I Really want to make this happen! The plants we have are the yellow & the red outside with white flesh that my eldest bought at the grocery store, & decided to see if the seeds would germinate. Boy did they! We have lots of little ones, but we have grown 6 plants in 2 pots that are about 2ft tall. Up until this week(finding & subscribing to Epic Gardening & through him=you), we have done this wrong, Way too small pots. We have trained them up 2" coir tubes.😜 We have green thumbs & grow lots of stuff inside & out. So despite all our mistakes we have enough plants to start in the right sized pots they need. but it has to be portable. Any ideas you have would really help us. Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm & Knowledge of growing this magical plant.

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  3 года назад +1

      No need to cut them, now that the weather is warmer they will heal on their own. Keep soil slightly on the dryer side and dont over water. This causee the cactus rust. Continue to let it grow and reach the top of canopy.

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  3 года назад +2

      I use Cedar wood, this wood is more compact and naturally resistant to mold and rot. My very first trellis that I built lasted about 7-8 years before we had to tear it down for remodeling.

    • @IQzminus2
      @IQzminus2 3 года назад

      I’m planning of having at least the bottom part that goes into the ground lightly charred, as that was the traditional method Viking’s used to make wood more water resistant where I live/my climate.
      Especially ends of logs that would be going into the ground.
      I think Japan have a sort of similar method called shou sugi ban. But I’m not planning on using any oil.
      It looks really cool, and if I manage to get sort of good at the technique, I’m planing on doing the whole wood trellis.

    Hey Richard. I found your channel just when my dragon fruit cuttings began to sprout after 4 months of winter. I like your episode style of videos. They are very helpful and informative. I'm going to follow your advice totally.
    I wanted to know, since you plant 4 cuttings in a pot, there could be a stem that is away from the sun, so do we need to rotate the pot every few days.
    I want to know because my pots are placed against a wall and the cutting towards the wall will not get direct Sun.

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  3 года назад +1

      Thank you for following! The cutting that’s away from sun will still grow and climb to the top of the trellis. No need for rotating the pot. Once it reach to the canopy it will flourish and get all the sun it needs.

    Love your detailed explanations of dragon fruit growing& maintenance. Would you do a video of tipping the tops so that they spread & then the process you do after tipping. Also, what do you do when the branches that drape over the canopy get too long?

      Tip those branches so they stop growing. This will force new shoots to grow.

    Good to know. Why do you grow in 20 gallon pots versus the ground? Is there an art and science to what three DF plants you put in each pot? Looking forward to the next video! Thanks!

      Good question! I grow in pots mainly because it gives me the freedom to move them around. Also if I didn't like a certain variety its very easy to remove and replace. I also like that the black containers contract heat so it warms up the roots to keep the productive.
