3:05 about dragon fruits being resilient I think it correlates to how they have striking resemblances to cacti, cacti are very resilient plants and Prickly Pears having a striking resemblance to Dragon Fruits, they aren't as spikey, but they turn red and have a very red flesh that can tint and are sweet as i've heard. It also surprised me that in the center of each branch there was a woody hard interior when I brought home a cutting that was a little dried up towards the bottom
HI Richard: did you know if you start selling the cutting you throw away, you could be a billionaire? you have so many varieties that most of us can't imagine and can't get, I hope we can buy your cuttings many that you just junk, are truly our dream treasures, thanks for teaching and excellent videos, I am so hooked that I can't believe myself
I have learned lots of thing from your video since 1.5 year & planted Dragon fruit in 4 pillar, one of them start to flower after 14 month. Lots of love from Nepal🇳🇵
I suggest to put rings of salt around your pots (definetly NOT in the soil. Just around the pot.) that get attacked most. It works for me, because I need most of the shoots that grow.
I grafted a christmas cactus to a yellow Dragon fruit a few months ago. It's growing a lot faster than normal, has pads growing from all nodes it has. Which it NEVER did before. They grow from the tips of their pads only. Loving the changes I'm seeing since being grafted!
Yeah Grafting on strong species give them strong growth Im gonna graft a yellow one on my delight I have seen that the delight growth is strong in my region and country Df is a journey with time you will understand whats best for your climate I have four types by the way I will two new ones next year
I have built my trellis and grown the red flesh dragon cuttings last year by watching your videos and did not train the branch so it grew out of proportion. Watching this video is very helpful for my 2nd trellis. Thanks Richard for the good tips. By the way, do you think I can IS or Thai yellow cuttings from you?
Richard, your videos are so amazing and helpful. I am new to growing dragon fruit but thanks to you every single one of my dragon fruit cactus plants I have are doing very well. I just received them in the mail a couple weeks ago and already they have gained 12 inches of growth almost. Thank you for this channel and for what you do man..
Very helpful videos. I have been waiting to tip my 1st plant, but it starting producing new shoots. I have 2 new shoots from same node. Should I remove 1 of them? TIA.
Thanks Richard for the informative video. I used floranova grow as you showed and my DF grow crazy. I didn’t have time to remove all of the branches, now I have so many long ones. Feel so sad to remove them but no choice if I want to have fruits soon.
Thank you so much for being an amazing instructor and my mentor. I built your trellis design and planted my cuttings and this month, I have my first flower bud. I keep checking it everyday and expecting it to blossom, but it's taking its good old time and keeping me in suspense! We're in a rainy season here on the Big Island of Hawaii and I hope it was OK that I covered the pot with plastic to reduce the excessive moisture. What do you suggest for fertilizing schedule during the rainy season?
Richard have you considered wrapping a strip of copper foil tape around your pot? It would prevent the snails and slugs from getting into your plants at least.
Thank you for the video. I cropped the top and have 4-5 second growth, but then third growth came out on the second growth. Do I cut the third growth and let the second growth grow more or let it be? Thanks,
Thanks, Richard! Helpful video, as always. Question: @ 12:40 I see some 'damage' on the main branch. Why did you choose not to chop-off that damage, or is that thing normal?
Hello, thank you for the great videos. Are you able to say, at least in your case, what the timeframe is from cutting being rooted to fruit being harvested? And maybe, after they reach the top of the trellis, how long until they flower and fruit? Thanks again!
That dog barking in the video sounded like it was from outside, and we don't have any dogs, so it made me check outside. I looked for 5-10 minutes to see where it came from until I realized that it came from your video. 😂

My dragon fruit flowers but always dies. I let it grow on my front lawn and have it coil around the metal railings. Do they prefer too much water or need just enough?
What happens if your DF is growing in a large pot on a stump and hangs over, does this work too? Or does it give you smaller fruit, compared to growing it up wood then growing a canopy?
Does dragon fruit have to be grown upwards and then downwards in order for them to fruit? Or can they just be grown along the ground to a certain length to fruit? Basically, is it about being grown to certain lengths, or do you have to have those types of contraptions where it grows up then dangles in order to fruit?
I’ve had to move my dragonfruit into the shade, but now the soil isn’t drying out; I can’t use floranova. Do you recommend extra perlite or something else to help the moisture evaporate?
Hi, I noticed my dragon fruit stems wrinkle and dry up distant to flowers. Do you advise cutting them off, or just leaving them alone? I was thinking about cutting them off to concentrate all the nutrients to the flowers/fruits but is there a chance cutting them might abort the fruits instead?
Hello brother, I am from India, have just start to cultivate dragon fruit from 2019.There are no available verius verity in India .It is very small size fruit which I have like 300 /400gm. I saw lots of your video and it's impressed me so I want to ask you can you export your dragon fruit plant? Pls reply
I have a dragon fruit plant that is a couple years old. Last season it gave me 3 fruits, this year I've had 10 blooms, after pollination they have been turning yellow and falling off. I have lost every one so far there is one left. Any help would be appreciated
I am have a problem with ants. The dragon fruit are in pots on the ground. I have tried DE and neem oil without success. What do I use to stop the ants. Thanks, Kirk
Finally got my dragon fruit cuttings to grow here in 5a! Tons of shoots. Any recommendations for keeping ants off the new buds? Also, I won’t get a full growing season so is it okay to induce flowering before maturity?
I'm not sure if the ants actually do anything bad to it. My dragon fruit plants got planted in ant nests, and other than biting me, they haven't bothered anything.
Dragon Froot okay, thank you! I’ve noticed they like eating the tops of new growth, just didn’t know if it would harm it down the line. Nothing has died of yet though.
Technoraptor 777 well that’s for reminding me, I needed to plant that anyway! Ming goes great with alot of my favorite drinks 😂 I’ll need to feed up on that, along with maybe other plants? Never thought of them being used that way.
After I finished my new trellis, i moved the pot (45 l) outside so of cause the ants moved inside. Maybe they are attracted by the crystal Sugar the young branches absobs near the spikes. So beeing not happy, I moved the pot again under my glass roof. I let the pot on the floor, a kind of rubber mats. After two days I recognized no more ants. I cannot understand why. Maybe they don’t like the rubber mat or its to far (3 meter) from their nest. Maybe they’re attracted by easier food.
I bought my dragon fruit tree last year when it was only a foot tall, now it climbing every where but still no fruit yet. I noticed my stems are skinny and slim, doesn't look healthy at all. How do you get yours to be so fat and plump?
Thanks for all the tips Richard! I just trimmed my plant 3 days ago, hopefully new shoots will come out soon 🤞🏻. Do u know how many days it take to sprout new shoots after tip cutting? I also use the cutting for replant. Hope it will roots as well.
Hi Richard.. your video are very helpful for everyone .and awesome.. I just want to know when is the best time to put fertilizer and how often I have to so 2/ my dragon fruits ‘s brand has a lot of yellow spot so which kind of insect or disease spray should I buy ? Hi, I'm a big fan thanks for the videos, I also made a trellis like yours for my dragon fruit. I have a question, I have ants that are sucking on my dragon fruit buds is that normal or are they killing the buds/ flower?
Ants usually drink the high sugar excretions of aphids. If you’re seeing ants on your plants you most likely have aphids or a similar parasite issue and the ants are feeding from their sugar rich excretions. Try some natural insect removal sprays. I tried one I once made from ultra hot chilis and cigarette butts soaked in hot water then put into a spray bottle and sprayed on affected plants. It worked OK for me. I was lucky because dad used to smoke so i had a ready supply of toxic cigarette butts, not anymore unfortunately. Do some research and find something natural and non toxic. Pretty sure if you looked closely you’d notice small black or dark grey spots near where the ants are feeding. I know this is responding to a 2 y/o post but this may also help out someone else. Ants usually feed on excretions from other parasites, not all of time but mostly. Remember that and always look for and deal with the underlying issue.
What about Ants? I have Brown Ants eating at the new shoots as well as other random spots. Should I be worried, or should I assume they are taking care* of unhealthy spots? The latter* would be nice. On a positive note, my first Dragon Fruit flower bloomed tonight at around midnight =)
I think its healthier to have only the same variety in one pot so there isn't nutrient competition..I have specific varieties in separate pots..all pots next to eachother though.
Yeah..I have 5 different pots with their own trellises..you can probably build a long single trellis for them as a group also..its worth it though. They seem to grow healthier.
Got to this point just fine, but instead of new growth I started getting new flowers buds, don't know wether to keep them or snap them off to let the plant continue to grow 😵💫
