  • Welcome to this step-by-step guide to making a wet felted Christmas wreath, using wool batt fibre and sparkly yarns and fibres to create your felt and an embroidery hoop to create your wreath. Natasha guides you through the whole process, from the equipment and materials you need to how to work with batt fibre, how to felt with non-feltable yarns and fibres and how to construct your wreath. You're in the right place if you want to learn a more modern style of felting, with clear instructions, the simplest methods and techniques and high quality results.
Here is a quick run-down of the equipment and materials you'll need to follow along with this video tutorial:
Wet Felting Tools: waterproof worksurface, small bubble bubble wrap 100cm x 50cm/40” x 20” piece (folded to 50 x 50cm/20” x 20”), spray bottle, washing up liquid, warm water, tea towels, rubbing tool, rolling tool, scissors, tape measure, scales.
Wet Felting Materials: c30g (1.1oz) of any wool fibre (tops/roving or batt), c1-2g of sari silk, sparkly Merino wool tops blends and viscose fibres (try UK supplier World of Wool), c2-3m/80”-120” of a variety of sparkly tinsel and eyelash yarns (eg King Cole Tinsel Chunky yarn), c1-3m/40”-120” of high wool content yarns (eg mohair). All in Christmassy colours.

Thank you very much for a wonderful lesson! Your directions are clear and concise. I particularly appreciated your expert tips as you went along in the lesson. The wreath is so festive! I love felting and this is another way to use amazing materials in felting. Very well done indeed! Honestly, one of the very best tutorials I have ever seen. Bravo.

Hi Pam, thank you so much for your lovely comments, and big apologies that I didn't spot them sooner! I'm so pleased to hear you enjoyed the tutorial, I hope it's given you some starting inspiration for making your own festive wreath or sparkly fabric (you can never have too much sparkle can you?)!!

Inspired by this and by your beach-themed hoop I made a large piece of embellished wet felt and cut it to fill 12 4” hoops. I’ve just spent a very pleasurable day sitting in the sunshine stitching on a few seed beads and snowflake sequins. I’m so thrilled with the outcome that I’m going to do something similar in a different colourway. That should cover alternative Christmas cards for nearest and dearest! And after that I’m going to make myself a festive felt wreath! Many thanks for your comprehensive tutorials and generosity in sharing them - and your knowledge - free of charge.

Thank you for your lovely feedback Sue, it honestly makes my day (and makes it all worthwhile) to know that felters are enjoying my tutorials and feeling inspired to make their own creations! Your small hoop idea for Christmas greetings is a great one (I can’t remember if I said in the tutorial, but I get little fabric Happy Christmas labels printed, which I glue to the back of the hoops before sending them out for Christmas, so they make proper greetings cards and keepsakes for the tree). I’m impressed that you’ve got yourself ready for Christmas already (sadly I’m always finishing mine the week before!), though I’ve sent out so many hoops in the past I think I’m going to have to come up with a different idea this year!🤣 Thanks again for watching and commenting!

Hi D, thank you for your kind feedback, I’m so pleased you enjoyed the tutorial! Hope you enjoy experimenting with your felting, once you know the trick of locking in any yarns or other materials with some wisps of the wool fibre on top then there’s no end to what you can felt together!🤣 Thanks again for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it!😁
