This sofware photography have been going on so long, that people don't know how photos should actually look like. Advancement is mostly happening in low light conditions. Manufacturers put crappy lenses and sensors in their phones and try to fix it with software. Sad days.
Actually! iPhone 13 pro actually uses Sony camera sensors and lenses! Sony camera sensors and lenses are not crappy! (I use to own and love Nokia phone)
I can agree with that. The hardware on modern flagship smartphones of today is great, excellent I would even dare to say, but the processing algorithm is a real letdown. Not even Google's camera software can truly emulate the Nokia's true-to-life realistic colours and details.
@@bontejonathan4591 that is simply not true. My Pixel 4, for instance, has an optical 2x zoom and pretty solid computational zoom over that. Pixel 6 has 4x optical, iPhones have 3x
I have a Nokia 808. One thing I can say, if there's even lighting on the scene, the image it takes is just pure and unbeatable. But it painfully struggles with HDR scenes and obviously, in low light conditions. It would have been perfect if it came with RAW support so you can recover those highlights and shadows.
Exactly!!! Had it RAW support, it could have been the Definition of two-fold GameChanger!! Actually, a few years back, I asked the guys/coders who do the Delight Custom Firmware , ( version 1.5 , then 1.6 and finally 1.8 ) if they could do sth with the camera app and incorporate the ability to capture in RAW as well (or just RAW) but sadly, they said it was impossible. Something to do with how Nokia designed the N808. It seemed that third party modders could not do anything. Perhaps, only if the Nokia team still existed and tried to find a workaround... So much light information that is processed and goes to waste. Using Apps such as Harald Meyers CameraPro app can alter the compression , thus Saving the jpegs uncompressed at 100% file data, BUT it is not helping because they are already stored as jpegs... Damn... I am not an image programmer but in my SMALL and rather stupid mind it would not seem not difficult to save a file at 100% RAW, when this phone collects billions of data for every picture before it brings it down to 12, 8 or 2 MPixel. Then, I remember it is my wishful thinking making these thoughts...

I'm quite jealous to see the Europeans can already buy the latest iPhone whereas I have to wait until the middle of October before I can officially buy it in my country. Anyway, the camera. It's always great to see the Nokia can still produce a true-to-life realistic colour and detail, even at short 2x zoom and macro. There are still no modern software-focused smartphones of today that can truly emulate Nokia's PureView algorithm. But that said, the iPhone does have a great dynamic range and lowlight performance alongside the 3x zoom shots (which isn't much of a surprise tbh because of its native 3x zoom telephoto camera in the first place). As for 5x zoom shots, neither phone wins me. The Nokia may have the edge for realism but... no thanks, the lack of OIS is definitely apparent. P.S This could probably be just me, but I see some photo quality improvement from the new iPhone 13 Pro compared to last year's iPhone 12 Pro Max.
