Thanks for watching 😇
Really? Filmed vertically while shaking the phone like there's an earthquake?
This is amazing & so helpful :)
Good work! Great idea for marking technique! THX!
Thanls, very well filmed and good clear explainations. I feel confident in buying one of these cars now, this maintenance is easy enough for me to do... Not like audi 😂
Gut gemacht. Dankeschön 👍👍
Very informative! Thanks from Sweden!
Most welcome
@@ParsMaker Good video I’m going to do the same on a 1.4 polo. Do you have any advice for this? Also any advice on doing a head gasket on the same car ?
@@kashjay5103 just for the crankshaft pulley removal , you need either impact tool or locking tool, the rest is easy
This is brilliant thank you
you welcome, thanks for watching
Very nice video. Very well explained , quality and video shoot is the best.
Can you tell the which way pulley bolt open . Clock wise or anti clock wise . ✌✌✌
awesome, great video
Thanks!
Good video..thanks you..
you most welcome
Thanks for putting this up. Got the same job to do on a Polo 👍🏻
Same mate I’ve been looking everywhere for something like this as I’m going down the DIY route.
thanks for help
I’m
Good with my hands and tackled many issues on my van from
Alternators , starters, power steering , drive shafts etc etc , I’d love to do this on my mk5 golf I am confident but it’s the timing thing I need to grasp and make sure it’s spot on . Where exactly you mark it on the belt and engine ? Cheers great video
Thanks very much

Hey, this is a really helpful video. Can I just ask, what is the point of the markings on the cam belt? I understand why it’s important to mark the position of the cam pulleys against the engine block before removing the old belt (so if either of the pullies slip, they can be returned to their previous position) but I don’t understand why the belt needs to be marked? Assuming the cam pullies are in the correct position, does it matter what teeth on the belt align with those on the pulley? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated 😊
Yes sure, even when the cam is locked in place and the crankshaft on the right point , there is a possibility that access belt length be placed between the cam pulley to crank shaft pulley , and if this is the case you may have bad timing that can cause engine run bad, or does not turn on at all, so when you mark the pulleys , you need to ensure the same numbers of tooth is between the pulleys , if is not you can twist the crankshaft very little so you match the length, the other fact is over time the belt extended very little in length and when you put a new belt you may mess up the time by length of a teeth , so it wise to mark the pulleys and make sure right number of tooth is in between
@@ParsMaker ah, that makes perfect sense. Thank you so much for your reply.
Did you use a special socket for the bolt on the crankshaft pully?
No, I used 12 PT socket type , but for the bolt you need to have either impact wrench, or locking tool if you want to loose it by hand
Hi brilliant video btw, did you lock the bottom crank or does the pulley just stay there when you lock the cams?
The crankshaft doesn't lock , it will stay in it place, but it can be turned around
Super nice ok is different as other cars but cool Thanks a lot

@@ParsMaker when get all parts and tools, will do :-) Thank you
Very good video and thanks for posting, however i have a question. Why would i need to mark the new belt before installing it (13:37), if the belt has the same amount of teeth, wouldnt i just be able to install it however i want?

Hi i got bca engine sucking air from oil filler cap and oil ckeck stick and already change pcv it still same & engine misfire valve sound when driving
To be honest, I can't give you any advice, because I can't diagnose without seeing it.
Is this the same work to do on a 2.0 engine. i just bought a VW Golf Variant 2004 2.0 petrol engine. and the vaterpump is bad. So i think insted of only change the Vaterpump i also change the Timing belt Kit
Yes the method is pretty much the same, and yes is better to change all if timing belt is over half its life time.
@@ParsMaker Ok tanks
Changed rings on a smoking Honda 200X(3 wheel) by myself when I was about 12 - 14 though I can't remember exact age. I knew the timing had to be reset or maintained if I took the head and cylinder off so I made 2 alignment marks on the cam gears and the chain then I maintained the timing position on the crank by keeping tension on the chain during cylinder removal and finally zip tied it up tight while I inspected piston and cylinder walls and swapped the rings. Needless to say when it fired back up I was quite pleased with myself considering I didn't have a manual and it was my first 4 stroke operation(had done a 2 stroke previously). It ran well until I traded it later for a CR80.
you should be good at engineering , for me is a supersize that you maintained AN engine at your 14 ,
@@ParsMaker Learning so I can go riding was far more incentive then learning at school. Love the lathe mods using practically household products(vs full machine shop) can't wait to see more.
One question? Is the thread in the tensioner or in the engine block, that hole that you showed?
Hi, the tensioner is the threaded part
Hi, when you lock the camshaft with the 8mm, which tensioner do you remove first to remove the big belt, or do you just undo the waterpump?
you need to remove the tensioner first,
@@ParsMaker ok, do you recomend specific tools? I need to know what size i need for my crankshaft pulley removal, and what size hex is needed to undo the tensioners?
You need a good socket set including Allen key , impact wrench for cam pulley or locking tool for cam if you are planning to open it with hand tool
What is the cars year? Is it manual transmission?
Thanks for the video, I need to do the same engine but on a skoda fabia 1.4, can you tell me how much I can expect for labour cost in east Midlands Leicester area..... I know prices are different to London but just need a rough estimate. Thank you
I think the engine is same, for the parts 100-150 depends on brands you can buy the parts from eurocarparts.com, labour 200 to 400 pounds .
@@ParsMaker thanks for your response man that's very helpful.
@@Isaac-iv3sj thanks for watching
How much would you charge to change that on polo 2003 same engine
hi, I have changed my job I no longer work as a mechanic
Any chance you know the engine code ? It’s not the 1.4 fsi engine? Looks like older one they used in mk4 also BCA engine
No , I don't even remember the engine size 😇
Hi mate, crankshaft right hand thread or left hand thread ?
Hi, is right hand tread , clock wise turn getteing tight
How tight did you do up the crank shaft bolt???
@@petereyre4097 5 ugga duggas
the small belt you mount it upside down. the writings that are on the belt should be read normally when you are facing the polished camshafts
I didn't pay attention to that, is it important?
You put the timebeld on the other side. The writings has to be readble on the right side
is this the bud engine?
not sure , I didn't pay attention to the engine code
Polo classic 1998 model water pomp
You can tell it's not a Honda Crank bolt... You would need to call Magilla Gorilla over. To break it free...
Are these reliable engines?
Yes , VW golf known for the good engine،
Yes, i have the exact same engine in my Polo from 2010. 235k kilometer and still going strong!
Good morning, I have done it, but my car wouldn't start ,
Hi , the only thing that can cause this ,is timing belt, did you mark the new belt tooth on the exact spot, and place it back on the right exact point, also if you removed your spark plugs check the wiring , and the fitting too
thanks , 1 subs from me
Thanks for the sub!
How much does it cost to change all of these. I am planning to buy a 2nd hand golf and this is what I am scared off. VW is an expensive affair
all the parts is about 140 pounds
You can buy kits for replacing the timing belt. comes with water pump, belts, tensioners, and certain bolts that the factory specs as 'one time use'.. You're supposed to replace them.
no need to mark the belts my friend...the gears will not moving.....
Is not about moves, we mark it to ensure the right numbers of teeth being placed between the pullyes😇
you missing a pully on you timing kit dude just above the water pump you must have a pully that's why the water pump did that in the first place
I'm aware that most similar engines have additional pulley, but this one does not, I just replaced what was in there 😇
@@ParsMaker for me i think if the water pump pulley was broken like that it's because of the supposedly missing pulley but it's just my 2 cents
@@cuzz26740 Newer versions of this engine didn't have that small pulley.
can you fix my car ?
hi, I personally would not be able to do it due to my job , but If you are on west london, a friend of mine is a mobile mechanic, I can introduce him , he may be able to fix your car,
@@ParsMaker I am in North London will he give me quote for time belt and waterpump
What is your car?
@@ParsMaker vw 1.4 mk7
Wrong. You put the belt wrong way. The text on the belt must be on your side when stand on the side you musy be able to read the text. You put it the other way. The belt is manufactured that way and its stronger when you puy it right way
