I can get Lost Monarch for $30 here in SoCal. It's basically my new go-to when I want something a little easier sipping than most bourbon, but still with interesting flavors

Lost Monarch (a bourye) is the best product in their core, under-$40 range. Pipe dream is fine, but you have to try Lost Monarch.

I know I’m probably on an island but I like the Pipe Dream more than the Lost Monarch. Also Fred do u know where it’s distilled? Only says bottled in Sonoma.

Glad to see an ascot day again, Fred... Not that I prefer either way for myself... But it does seem to bode well as an indicator of the relative measure of additional stress upon you. Surely we all deserve ascot days, these days! We love your content, Fred. Thank you for it all!

thank you and there's some truth to that. when i am in a bad mood, i tend to not want to wear one. ascots = good times for me. we just put our beautiful pup of 13+ years down, so thankfully these were recorded before that.

May you both be comforted... And ascot days also be yet many! Cheers, brother!

Their story and relationship with the redwoods makes me wonder if they could do a whiskey finished in Redwood barrels…how would that wood change the flavor?

@@FredMinnick not quite correct -- redwoods are far from endangered. Old growth maybe, but private land redwood growers could supply barrel wood. I'm a Certified Arborist and keep up on tree news. I also am familiar with Redwood Empire, having photographed a specific scene for them a couple years ago. Wish their products were available here in southern Oregon. Cheers, MDV

@@TallTreesClub I live in Sonoma County and see 3-4 trucks full of cut redwoods driving on 101 every day. Definitely not endangered, but most of the trees I've seen recently were fire damaged. Big lumber mill in Cloverdale is usually where they're headed.

Disclaimer, my fiance and I don't dress up and wear anything special to make you think we are bourbon experts, we are not. However, we do travel to buy and sample bourbon, as well as having an extensive collection. Pipe Dream is second on our list for the worst bourbon we have ever tried. I am not sure where everyone is coming from with the reviews. Perhaps we got a bad bottle? Not sure. Our starts OK, begins loosing it in the middle, and has a flat finish with a chemical cleaning after taste. It seems as though it is not finished, reminds me of white dog. The only bourbon we had that was similar was a bourbon from Lansing Michigan that was hurried and I am fairly certain they chemically cleaned the bottle rather than wash with actual bourbon. The slow aging process that Redwood Empire claims is beneficial, can work against creating a good bourbon. Less temperature variation to push and pull the bourbon in and out of the wood, the longer it takes. Blending 4 to 12 year barrels hoping you get it right? Maybe that is where they got some barrels/bottles wrong?
It is not even close to Woodford or Buffalo Trace. What I would challenge everyone to do is perform a proper blind taste test against other bourbon.
