no chance I would put Woodinville on the same shelf as my Bookers..
@@snoopstp4189 don't for one second think my shelves are organized. You've seen my office backdrop right? Michter's 25 sits next to Jack Daniel's black label. LOL
3 reasons why Fred is the G.O.A.T - No ads, one take, tells you w a straight face that Maker's flagship is good because it makes his wife happy. ⭐⭐⭐
He said that about 1920 not makers
@@MattD86 oh yeah? ruclips.net/video/Jt5OaIJ741Q/видео.htmlsi=xddl_Z4TNsU76C-F&t=975
My Six of the Best bourbons to always have at the house is a conventional list: 1) Rare Breed, 2) 1920, 3) Jack SB, BP, 4) Maker's 46 Cask Strength, 5) Knob Creek SB, and I'll say Woodford Double Oaked (though truth be told, I more often reach for the 1910. I like to keep both around the house).
God tier list
Mix the 1910/1920. Make some 1915. BB profile.
My House Bourbon's are Early Times BiB, Baker's 7, Buffalo Trace, Russell's 10yr and Eagle Rare, OF 1910, OF 1920
That is a solid list
Evan Williams BIB, Wild Turkey 101, Jim Beam Single Barrel, Old Grandad 114, JTS Brown BIB , Mellow Corn. All great value pours.
I love the fact that you keep 10 distinct and separate bourbons all the time as everyday bourbons ..That shows love and commitment! Really 30!
My house bourbons are Larceny Small Batch, Evan Williams 1783, Russell's Reserve 10 year, Old Grand-Dad bonded, and Early Times BiB.
Great list 👍
1. 1792 bottled in bond
2. Smokewagon anything. Currently UCUF
3. Eagle
4. Early times BiB, brown Forman black top
5. Knob creek 12
6. 1920 Prohib
7. Makers 46
8. Rare breed bourbon
9. I love peerless. I have a single barrel, but even the ryes are delish
10. Regular old Buffalo
Really appreciate your point on the grain forward whiskeys. That makes sense. The strong notes would hold up while you’re cooking and your pallet and senses have to deal with a bunch of different scents and flavors. Going to try my Barrel Vatted Malt and Westland cooking for Mother’s Day.
Not all bourbon but my list 1) Wild Turkey 101 or RB 2) Sagamore 3) Pikesville Rye 4) JW Green 5) OF 1920 6) Redbreast 7) Knob Creek 12 or SB 8) Ardbeg 9) OGD 114 10) Jameson
It's definitely interesting to hear what you have in your home. Love the honesty without a sales pitch or pushing a brand. 100% genuine.
Eagle Rare, Russell's 10 yr, KC 9 yr, ECBP, and EC toasted barrel are a few I always have around.
Newbie here, been splitting new love for Tequila and bourbon. Just recently bought Makers 46, Knob Creek 9 and Four Roses Small Batch. All 3 amazing, yet so different.
What I typically have on hand for the house:
- Woodinville for sure; great selection
- Bookers - yep I agree here
- Woodford Double Oaked
- Widow Jane 10 y/o
- Old Forrester Single Barrel; barrel strength
- Buffalo Trace
Thanks for sharing the knowledge and such concise overview of these brands. Look forward to all of your videos, very useful for making a collection
I love your hat! Agree with your selections on Four Roses, Wild Turkey (101 is a great mixer for friends that don’t drink Bourbon straight, as are the Evan’s), Makers, 1920 ( 1910 too). Others I have not tried. I also keep Buffalo Trace and Weller (green) in the house.
Thanks for the insight. Appreciate what you do. 1. Jack single barrel or gentleman Jack 2. Buffalo Trace 3. Sweetens cove 4. Rare Breed 5. 101 6. Angels envy 7. Angels envy eye 8. Blantons 9. Woodford reserve double oak 10. EH Taylor small batch
Thanks for sharing!
Below is what I would have in "daily drinkers"
Eagle Rare or Buffalo Trace
Knob Creek 9
Wild Turkey 101 or Longbranch or Russell's Reserve SB
Maker's Mark or Maker's 46
Also - Jim Beam White Label for cooking (adding to food)
My house is Eagle Rare, Early Times BIB, Coopers Craft 100, Woodenville Bernheim Wheated Whiskey and Knob Creek 9. Works for me and my pocketbook 😊
KC 12 is a must, I just love the oaky, tobacco profile
Also… Barrell,
OF 1910, MM 46 cs
RR 10y & SB
Currently in the house. Usually a single barrel or aged version of:
Four Roses
Barrell
Penelope
Knob creek
Jack
Elijah Craig
Interesting list; thanks for sharing your personal day to day preferences.
Great line-up Fred! For me so always have on-hand, WT101, Rare Breed, Russell's 10, OF 1920, and B Trace,
Maker's Mark has for a long time been the primary "house bourbon" here. It's all my wife drinks. I also have many, many different Maker's Private Selection examples, as well as I always keep on hand Maker's Mark 101. I have been in exploring mode for a few years on others. Strong repeaters are Wilderness Trail's wheated bourbon, and Horse Soldier. I recently tried Evan Williams Bottled-in-Bond, and was pleasantly surprised how good it is for the price point. Like they say on the Trail, so many bourbons, so little time. Cheers!
Solid list, I’m with you on a lot of these
As always, great content, Fred! While I share a few from your list, I must say that I haven't given Evan Williams much of a chance, but after hearing you pit it against Elijah Craig, that is on my to-do list. I'd like to add that I have been going back to Coopers' Craft 100 proof when I can find it. Also, Old Forester 1910 & Woodford Reserve double oaked are typically my go-to bourbons when I have a sweet tooth to satisfy. Thanks for always sharing your knowledge and experience. Cheers!
Totally agree on the age statement, I want the transparency on that!
Another great vid.
Love Small Batch Select so that one along with Knob Creek 9 and Woodland Double Oak are always in the cabinet
Great video!
Four Roses ✔️
Smoke Wagon ✔️
1920 ✔️
Some of my favorites hit this list. Cheers, my friend! 🥃🤘🏼
Fred - great list of bourbons. Must get my drinking chops up for the Summer!!
Solid choices.
Absolutely wonderful presentation.
You put a smile on my face when you pulled out that bottle of OF 1920..!!! 🥃
Great insights to your 'daily' drinkers and something to consider.
I love seeing Booker’s, Rarebreed bourbon, KY Spirit, Woodinville, Maker’s Mark, OF 1920, in your list. To these in my bar I would add Wilderness Trail wheated, Baker’s, J. Henry & Sons Patton Road cask str., Knob Creek 9, and Michter’s.
My house bourbons are Eagle Rare, Makers Full Proof, Weller’s Special Reserve, Rare Breed, and Old Forester 1910, and Even Williams BiB. With that selection I can feel that I have something for any guests that come buy and that me and my wife can enjoy.
I always have a couple Wild Turkey products out (currently a pick of Russell's and Kentucky Spirit), an Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace pick, Sagamore Double Oaked and Heaven Hill 7 year BiB. All solid pours and things that I'm not afraid to share with anyone (from novice to whiskey nerd).
Makers Mark is a total sentimental bourbon to me. First bourbon I had back in the day. Always had it at Keeneland. This was at my daughter's wedding. There is always a Makers product in the house. My other favorites always on my shelf are Evan Williams 1783, Knob Creek 9, Russells 10 yr, and Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond 7yr.
Love the mouth feel of Rowan's Creek!
10. Maker's Mark 46 French Oaked
9. Wild Turkey 101
8. Castle & Key Restoration Rye 2022
7. Jim Beam Black Label Extra-Aged
6. Evan Williams 1783 Small Batch
5. Laphraoig 10
4. Jack Bonded
3. Woodford Double Oaked
2. Old Forester 1920
1. Bushmills 21 Yr
My 'must-haves' are ^^^
Sláinte! 🥃🇮🇪🏴🇺🇸🥃 Cheers!
Basic: Evan Williams 1783, Mixer: WT 101, sipper Knob Creek 9, weekend pour OF 1920 & 1910
Love the video. I was sipping Bookers last night, (lumberyard batch) my god was it delicious: honey, tea, leather, etc.,
I also opened a knob creek 9 yr. single barrel reserve that was at 120 proof and was presently surprised at the similarities between these two. Almost identical I thought. The smoothness on the bookers at 125 proof, it’s “mind bottling” -Ron Burgundy
Anyway house bourbons in my neck of the woods are as follows:
1. Evan Williams 1783 (86 proofer and the extra aged 90)
2. Old forester 1910 not 20.
3. Wild turkey 101
4. Bardstown bourbon Discvery series #7
5. Johnny Drum 101- love that this one rarely gets any lovin…let’s keep it that way
6. Used to be McKenna 10 year, but I have some more new releases/iterations of it and I’m not impressed to say the least e.g., barrel no. 9481 barrels on 1-8-10, I’ll stills drink it though.
7. Store pick Russell Reserve single barrels…my god
8. Willet family estate eye 4 year- really common lately here in Texas, which is uncharacteristic. Prior to 2023, never would see them, now they’re everywhere.
9. And my favorite, especially when you consider price, quantity, and availability, Early Times BIB…this is the real banger. I’ve currently got a bottle of 2022 Birthday Bourbon, and a pappy 20 year and I’m consistently reaching for the Early times. This bottle really helped me work to eradicate my Bourbon FOMO. I’m know longer spending unmentionable amounts of money on unicorn Bourbons.
Bookers…. Always! Knob Creek, Bakers, Wyoming Whiskey, JTS Brown, OF 1920, Chattanooga Whiskey, Makers and Four Roses Small Batch Select… and probably a Buffalo Trace. Great video!!
My Woodinville pick is fantastic: I love how distinct it is from some of the Kentucky notes.
I am a local but I really think it's a must have for anyone.
Living in Vermont, close to the New Hampshire border which helps, we have a limited selection of bourbon but we always have Wild Turkey 101 which is used in Manhattans. Our sippers are Blantons and Old Forester 1920. We're lucky to be able to get Russell's Reserve 10 year in NH, and we are able to pick up Four Roses Small Batch.
be nice to have the bottles in view
ER is a must have at all time.
Great list Fred. I live in Texas and sometimes I really crave the taste of Ironroot Harbinger. I always try to have that around and to share.
I have heard the tri barreled is awesome!
I have a similar approach for the types I always want on hand.
- Wild Turkey or Russell's
- Old Forester 1920 or Jack Daniel's barrel proof for the sweet tooth
- MGP sourced bourbons and ryes. Normally they're store picks of smaller NDPs so I can try new brands. I prefer sticking to the $50-70 range for these and only buy brands that are transparent with their labeling.
- Any Maker's wood finished
- Knob Creek rye or bourbon pick
- Sadly, ECBP would always adorn my shelf but now it's too hard to find
Definitely had fun with my list. I also enjoyed pausing the video and trying to guess the 10 you might picked based on what I think you might pick. I did alright, I got 50% right.
Evan Williams BiB
Early Times BiB
Smoke Wagon
OF 1910
Wild Turkey 101/Kentucky Spirit
Bakers
Jack Daniels BiB
Bardstown Disco Series
Knob Creek 9
Boulder Spirits Bib
Here are some from my list: Booker's, Barrell, Knob Creek 120 proof, Heaven's Door Cask Strength, Old Forester 1920, Woodinville Whiskey cask strength or not depending on my mood. I had all but given up on Booker's as a House Bourbon given how hard it had been to find but I recently discovered most internet vendors can sell to residents of Washington State and I have been able to find a few bottles that way at not unreasonable prices.
Great choices. At my house, must have Early Times BIB, Buffalo Trace, OGD 114, Old Forester 1910, Bardstown Origin BIB, Belle Meade Reserve, Knob Creek 12, Eagle Rare, Cooper’s Craft 100 and Rare Breed. 🥃
Here is the basics.
MM for Old Fashioned and informal company
EW BIB - general mixer and highballs.
ODG BIB, OGD 114
Elijah Craig Small Batch
Cooper Craft 100
Larceny
OF BIB,
WT Rare Breed or Russell 10 year old
OF 1910, OF 1920, OF 1915
There is always a couple of bottles that are being sampled .....
Awesome thanks for sharing 🥃😎
Old Forester 1920 is amazing! Shelf available where I'm at! Gonna restock some of my regulars in my collection and get another bottle tomorrow
Listerine in Iraq! BEAUTIFUL! Been there done the lowly (I HATE) vodka in an ocean spray cranberry bottle... But My house mixer is and will always be Evan BIB.... I also really enjoy the smoke wagon, 1920 and Rare Breed..... My different(?) bottles are Michters U.S No.1, AND I REALLY can't get enough of, Belle Meade Reserve the MGP version. The newer nelson bros I am NOT a fan of. BUT I will ALWAYS go back to Belle Meade Mansion in Nashville to get the reserve!!! Thanks for the list, GOOD TALK!
Michters Sour Mash, OF 1920, 4R small batch, WT RR, Smoke Wagon small batch, Knob Creek, Old Elk (currently 6 different ones open), Wilderness Trail Wheated, Leopold Bros Rye, Willett 16 yo private barrel.
Wild Turkey 101/Rare Breed, Old Forester - any, Basil Hayden, and my wife and I both recently discovered and love Glenlivet Double Oak.
Just getting into bourbon sipping and the wife and I are really enjoying Evan Williams Fire.
Definitely on a budget so Evan Williams BIB is a great sipper.
Nice list! My current bottles are Weller SR, Bardstown Origin bourbon, EW BiB & I'm trying to find an old Forester Single barrel.
Knob Creek Smoked Maple, Woodford Double Oaked & Calumet 15.
1920 is my cocktail bourbon. Makes a helluva Old Fashioned!
One of my House Bourbon bottles will always be Jefferson’s Ocean. I currently have two bottles. One is the Cask Strength and the other is Wheated Mash Bill. I know it’s a novelty but I taste the sea salted caramel and love it
good for you
My list includes Weller Special Reserve, Russels Reserve Single Barrel & OF 1910
Amongst my collection. I keep a min of 6 bottles of Rare Breed. Can't go low *smiles*
and here I am having just finished my last rarebreed.... lol
Fred you surprised me with the Smoked Wagon but the rest were spot on!
Perhaps I need to revisit that one.
Rare Breed
Bookers (Bunker the ones I love)
Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel
Jack Daniel’s SBBP
Michter’s Bourbon
Woodford Double Oaked
OGD Bib for old fashioneds
Actually, Fred, thank you for your service the most. Bourbon is a secondary, but you truly are one of a kind. Thank you for everything man.
Wow. Thank you for that!!! Sorry I am only just now seeing the comment. But your kind words mean a lot!
Though I’m still experiencing new whiskies, so far my rebuys are:
KC9, sib and 12
EC and ECbp
WT101& Rare Breed
ER10, Blade n Bow and Early Times bib
Barrel Bourbon and Penelope
Bottles I always have on hand:
Old Forester 1920, Woodinville Straight, Maker's Mark 46, Rare Breed, Knob Creek Single Barrel 120, Russell's Reserve 10 Yr
Love OF 1920, tried it on your recommendation and my wife and I have not been disappointed.
We always have a Knob Creek, a George Dickel BIB, Rare Breed, and one of my new faves Jack Daniels Bonded Rye
Agreed.
My favorite bourbons: Russell’s reserve 10 year, Knob creek 120 proof, buffalo trace, Eagle rare 10 and finally WT Kentucky Spirit.
My shelf staples: Old Forester 100, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Pikesville Rye, Maker's Mark 46 Cask Strength, Eagle Rare.
Old Grandad 114 is always around , decent Neat and great for cocktails
Agreed. Age statements mean something. For me, that means the whiskey was allowed to age to the sweet spot of flavor and mouth feel. For me that is 10 to 12 yrs.
Always on the shelf: 1/ OF 1920 2/ Redwood Empire Pipe Dream 3/ OGD 114 4/ Rare Breed 5/ Four Roses Small Batch Select 6/ JD Single Barrel Barrel Proof 7/ Woodford Double Oaked 8/ John J Bowman SB (living in VA makes it a no-brainer) 9/ Couldn’t agree more with Barrel Bourbon (5 expressions on the shelf at present) 10/ ET BiB
My house bourbons: Turkey 101, Makers, Woodford Reserve (often double -oaked), OldFo 1920, Knob Creek, and for the high-proof end of things Elijah Craig Barrel Proof. I'd love to include Bookers like Fred did, but it's impossible to find now and is usually marked up higher than retail when I do find it.
Bakers 7, 1792 variety, SW uncut, Barrell Dovetail (or batches), Bookers and Knob 120 pf. Not listing any BTrace as people tend to just go to those when there are put out, there are so many other solid choices I like to offer these others as regulars
Some Crossover. This is what I like to keep on hand.
1) Old Forester 1920 or 1910
2) Makers Mark Cask Strength
3) Four Roses Small Batch Select
4) John J. Bowman
5) Old Forester Rye
6) Jack Daniel’s Bonded
Whiskey Acres (distiller picks), Maker’s Mark Cask Strength, Old Forester 1910, Old Forester 100, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, Early Times BIB, George Dickel 8 Year, Wild Turkey 101, Milam & Greene Single Barrel, Old Grand-Dad BIB
I'm down to my last bottle of unopened Elijah Craig 12 year. I don't buy the small batch but I really like the barrel toasted EC.
House Bourbons for me..........OF 1910 and 1920. Rewood Emprire Pipe Dream. Knob Creek 9. Also like Hard Truth Sweet Mash Rye!
My house bourbons are
Old Forester 1920,4 🌹single barrel, Maker's 46, Buffalo Trace, Tumblin Dice single barrel,ECBP, Rare Breed and Woodford double oaked
Old Fo 100, bookers, fantastic, fun fact, my great uncle was the inspiration for the Oklahoma State mascot. LEGENDARY!
My house bourbons are Buffalo Trace, Michter's US1, E H Taylor Small Batch, American Brick, Jefferson's Ocean voyage 24.
Nice video, thanks. My house Bourbon is Wild Turkey Rare Breed.
The other nine staples: Eagle Rare 10 and Buffalo Trace depending on mood (yes, easy to find in Europe), Woodford Double Oaked, Knob Creek (unfortunately the Small Batch, because the SIngle Barrel is simply not available at all, never), ECBP (however, the price rose significantly over the last year), Jack Daniels Single Barrel (all proofs and including the Rye, eehm, yep thats "one" 😉), Makers 46 (because I can't get the Cask Strength anymore), Four Roses Single Barrel (never saw the SB Select) and Noah's Mill.
You have excellent taste my friend. I’ve just got around to trying Noah’s Mill, and I’ve been missing out.
Wild Turkey 101, Knob Creek 9, Elijah Craig, Rare Breed, Makers Cask strength, Old Forester 1920. For some reason, anytime I crave specific bourbon it
Is Makers Cask.
Wild Turkey 101, Makers Mark, Russels 10 Year, Buffalo Trace, Even Williams Black Label & Four Roses Small Batch
Always need a bottle of WRDO, Larceny BP, and EHT SmB in the house.
I don’t have “every” Bookers ever, but I have every labeled release from 2015-01 thru 2023-01 as well as some older releases and the LE Rye, 25th and 30th…
Wild Turkey is my kryptonite. Gotta have it.
My house bourbons are
1. ECBP (any batch)
2. RR SiB, RB or Kentucky Spirit
3. OF 1920
4. Barrell (Vantage atm)
5. MGP (Doc Swinson atm)
6. JDSBBP (yes its bourbon)
7. Buffalo Trace Product ( ER, EHT, or Blantons).
Boone County Small Batch (sure miss 1833), Old Grandad 114, Old Forester 1910, George Dickel 9yr and anything Old Scout 5yrs and older (love Big Level).
My house bourbons are buffalo trace, ECBP, Leopold Bros BiB, Blanton's, Remus single barrel 114 proof,
Knob Creek SB 120 proof..
Also MGP is the best "major distillery" in my opinion. The range and variety and flavors they produce is amazing.
Leopold!! 🥃🤘
I may be biased, as I live in Iowa. But my house bourbon is Cedar Ridge.
I agree with you on the Elijah Craig. It ain't the same now as the old 12 year. I did a blind tasting between the old 12 and the subsequent NAS, and the NAS was noticeably different and not in a good way. I miss the 12 year. Beam brought back the age statement on Knob Creek bourbon and now the KC rye, i think its time HH brings back the EC 12 year.
Great conversation! Interesting ideas..I join you with always having Evan Williams and Wild Turkey. But...I live in Texas and so most of my regular house bourbons are Texas whiskeys.
IronRoot
Balcones
Lone Elm
Milam & Greene
Still Austin
Saints Alley
Oh yeah!
Sorry
I've got every one of those except Rowans Creek but I've got Noah's Mill. Also always have Early Times BiB, Elijah Craig BP, Ezra Brooks, JD BP, Knob Creek 120 proof, Michter's, Old Elk, OGD 114, Redemption, Russell's Reserve & Wilderness Trail to name a few.
You might discover that OGD BIB will fit nicely on your shelf with the ret of these.
So i am really the only person in my family or group of friends that actually enjoys whiskey enough to drink it strait. So i have some buffalo trace for mixing. Then i have ECBP and Larceny barrel proof when i want something to sip. I also enjoy Balvenie 12 and Oban 14. I also try to keep Bookers, knob creek 12, and i am lucky enough to have a few botltes of EH Taylor!
