    The bit with the kid getting the chocolate always gets me. My mother was German and she always remembered when the Yanks rolled into her village on tanks. To her horror, her 4 year old brother (my uncle Karl-Heinz) stood in front of them giving the Nazi salute shouting 'Heil Hitler'. My poor mother burst into tears because she thought they were all going to be shot, but the G.I.'s just laughed and gave him bars of chocolate.

    American infantry units hated when they were supported by British Armor. There were instances where the Brits would stop during battle to have tea. Lol

    • @lyndoncmp5751
      @lyndoncmp5751 3 года назад

      Absolute myth. No battles were called off to brew up tea.
      If an advance was already stopped and nothing was happening anyway then yes might as well have a brew. Nothing else to do.

      And I haven't heard of any American infantry units complaining in the Ardennes when British armour turned up there to help them out in their retreat.
      Colonel Ben Vandervoort of the US 82nd Airborne Division, was full of praise and wrote lavishly about the support his battalion was given by the tanks of the Grenadier Guards of the Guards Armoured Division in the fighting through Nijmegen during Market Garden. He said they gave him all the support he asked for and the teamwork was fantastic. He even said sometimes the tanks were TOO aggressive, and got knocked out as a result.

    12 years on tanks here with the majority of it as a gunner. NO .. you do not shoot though a building .. NO .. you do not shoot what you can't see. No No NO .. that is not the way it works. BUT .. knowing the German tank was there the gunner should have been watching through his sights and shot as soon as he had a good target. The tank commander should have give him the command before they started to move out

    Your question about if the British tank had fired on the Germen tank though the building, would it have mattered? No. The British version of the Sherman used a long 74mm and that would have lost much of its power on going though the brick building and then hitting the armor of what was suppose to be a Tiger. It would have simply bounced. Then you had a Jag Tiger come up, that was the end for every tank there. No, in all honesty the tanks would have backed off as soon as the infantry told them of the Tiger, then they would circled round to try and get a shot at the back armor of the Tiger. but that Jag, was back there covering that and Iv seen accounts of a single Jag taking out five Shermans on its own so that battle was over before it started.

    Yeah one of the major problems was communication between the British tanks and American troops. Something that wasn't exactly trained well. Also it wasn't shown but the Americans were baffled at the british stopping an advance to make camp to drink tea

    • @lyndoncmp5751
      @lyndoncmp5751 3 года назад

      A myth. The Americans stopped just as much for coffee and chow.

    I’ll be honest. I don’t watch many series unless they’re short and not too many episodes and series (busy mummy). I don’t like any war productions. I just prefer films. However I really like your reactions and soothing voice. So here I am. :) hope you can get some rest soon! Take care. X

    6:42 "bloody English!"
    Yes this episode doesnt give much respect to the real life British tank unit that fought alongside Easy Company at Nuenen.
    The 44th Royal Tank Regiment was, in reality, a far more experienced and battle hardened unit than the 101st Airborne at the time, with 2 years combat behind them, going back to North Africa in 1942. The 101st had less than 2 months.
    The 44th gave as good as they got around Nuenen. They lost 2 Shermans, but knocked out 2 Jagdpanzer IVs of Panzer Brigade 107 and that German unit itself had to pull back from Nuenen that day, as its position was untenable.
    Cheers.
