    I’m absolutely in love with this car. I love that it’s overlooked and somewhat invisible on the roads. The twin turbo flat six is amazing. 640hp in a light car is a very good number. The PDK gearbox is incredibly fast. The practicality is a plus. It’s good on long and short drives and you can take it to the grocery store. And it will absolutely walk out on pretty much anything. I think I’m in love. Great review Henry, like always.

      I think auto reviewers often exaggerate such pet meme's of theirs for effect. It's not like everyone has the money or the lifestyle to buy even the base 911 (which is what they're usually referencing when making such statements) unless they live in a well off community, and drive their 911 mostly within it.
      And to your point: Everyone knows when they see a GT2; GT3, or Turbo, they're looking at something a lil bit different; special or expensive, even when they can't quite explain it, know why. LOL

    I really do respect the engineering and the power of this, however some say the *Cayman GT4* is now the best *drivers' car* in the Porsche range and the 911 has just got too heavy and bloated...That said, with a lotto win I'd have a 1990's era 993 Turbo S or an equivalent RUF and an E34 ///M5 3.8 / 6 spd.
    New cars just seem to lack soul.

      This and Harry's Garage are my favorite guilty pleasures--each emphasizing different themes. The Turbo S looks magnificent, but I was troubled by the inefficiency of squealing tires, overabundant technology and great mass. Does profit per unit prevent further development of the Cayman GT4?

    • @HiddenWen
      @HiddenWen 4 года назад +1

      The emission regulations have greatly muted the sound, and the new cars are simply too technologically advanced that most of the thrill of driving a beast has been dulled down. That being said, the handling and quality is unmatched, and it is in every-way an amazing car. If you want more soul, the Cayman GT4 might be a good choice, or the GT3/GT2 RS if you're looking for something even more expensive. I've tried the Cayman GT4 and realized I didn't like the noise. Some drivers enjoy it, I like a more quiet and comfortable cabin, which the Turbo provides.

    Great review as we've come to expect from Henry and accomplices. Thanks for not disappointing.
    The acceleration bit was a very good illustration of what those supposed seconds difference in 0-100km/h translate to in a practical sense. Most of us have seen 2.55s on CarWow (I watched for the car, that's not a reviewer that I watch otherwise) and have likely heard of even better than that. Those are ridiculous numbers; must be a bit mind-boggling to experience.
    You're doubtless correct about the Carrera 4S being more than enough. If someone can afford the Turbo S without even needing to consider the price difference, they might as well buy one given nobody sensibly needs the performance either of them can deliver.

      "...That's why it doesn't get much attention"... Really??? That's really fucking ridiculous, buddy! Where are you living, you spoiled child? ;-)
      Here in Germany, a 911 Turbo S certainly gets a lot of attention from people, because it looks awesome but not as fucking "cheap" like some of these tasteless and totally useless "super sports cars", mostly driven by people, who just want to show off with their car.
      In Germany, a lot of people would just be annoyed by a "flashy" Lamborghini design or some other super flat, but for a daily purpose totally unasable "super sports cars", like McLaren and Ferrari. This is a reason, why Porsche is so amazing.
      This amazing car company just doesn't need to make idiotic sports car designs, which only have downsides for a daily purpose and only makes you look like a fucking idiot, like with too many Lamborghinis for example. Any Porsche 911 model is for grown ups... but not for dumb wannabes.

    A Brilliant comprehensive road test telling us not only what the car is like on track, ok there's no way I am going to take any of our cars there. (1. I am to old to pretend I am a formula 1 driver, and 2 why risk a beautiful machine and myself pretending otherwise,) but more importantly for me is what it's like to drive in town in Traffic, with speed humps, road restrictions, parking hassle, and 20 mile speed limits, with the occasional country blast, which is more in keeping with how a 911 is perceived, a super car you can do the school run and or the supermarket shop in without getting it keyed.

    Great video, but what's hilarious is that if you live in Henley on Thames, where this video was shot, the first four minutes show numerous shots of Henry supposedly doing what looks like driving around a fair bit, but he's actually driven just once around the main central town area and the shots of the car in motion aren't in the order you'd drive the route you'd have to to get through the town. To someone who knows Henley, it looks like someone has lent him the car to literally drive around the block ten times 😂Obviously that's how video editing works, but still funny to spot nonetheless.

    I think the Turbo S should have been a hybrid from the start, Porsche 918 style. Front wheels could have been electric drive with regenerative braking etc. Not a lot of range but active and clever tech like an F1 car. Then you keep the GT3 style of cars as well, naturally aspirated, rwd, manual and pure. But imho the Turbo S should be a showcase of what Porsche can do, the industry benchmark. And that a tech powerhouse like Porsche would go for unaided old-school combustion tech honestly feels like a bit of a cop-out.
