Good tip on painting the caulking. I have to replace all the baseboards in my house. I tore them out to put the flooring down. Most of the walls are bullnose instead of square and whoever put the baseboards in didn't know how to cut the corners so they looked horrible. One thing I'm going to do is caulk along the bottom where the baseboard meets the bathroom floor. I didn't tile the bathrooms, I just ran laminate throughout, so I need to seal the edges of the floor in case the shower curtain doesn't stay in the base. Both my bathrooms have walk-in showers, no tub, so the lip is pretty shallow.
Are you putting white paint on the cUlk thT is between the wall and the top of the trim? And you're also painting the joint where the quarter round and the baseboard meets with white paint? Who comes back to cut in the wall color paint at the top of the baseboards?
Anymore, I just go ahead and find a wire or pipe to shoot a nail through and get it over with. Helps manage my expectations of how the day will go. Nice video.
I plan to paint over our baby blue bathroom tile that covers the bottom half of the wall... what would your suggestion be, to use an adhesive to get the baseboard to stay, and then paint the tile? vs. adhesive on top of painted tile? There's never been baseboard in there and the tile/floor transition is a little rough.
As always, great vid, simple yet detailed - very hard to do. Love the adhesive caulk in the mitered joints trick. I'll be doing that from now on. And what about those boots?
I've had my Gerber Centerdrive for a couple of weeks now. I couldn't throw the pliers open the way you do. I WD-40'd it and worked the slide back and forth hundreds and hundreds of times to loosen it up. It took the full two weeks, but I can throw the pliers open one-handed now! Oh, the simple things that give us pleasure! You mentioned your plier tips don't quite touch. Mine do. Great for slivers and hangnails. I'm wondering if your wire cutter triangles are interfering with the nose contact?
I found that the spare bit holder is keeping the pliers form closing down all the way. I need to see if I can adjust it to give me just a tinny bit more room.
That’s so true it is like a curse I always notice things installed wrong or bad and I look at every roof when I’m driving to spotting tarps and blown off shingles
Don’t know if you’ve got the time but I’m 27 years old and wanted to see how TF I can get some similar experience as you? Right now I’ve been doing apartment maintenance for 3 years and was doing hardwood floor installation before that for just 1 year. What should I look into any suggestions??
My friend had a painter hit a water pipe with a nail gun. She went to the meter and twisted that little nub with her bare hands. Amazing what you can do when it is important to you. Hopefully they are now storing an easy access wrench near by.
btw guys...ive bought 7 of his shirts and they are legit! no surprise he did them right, great for summer time in south MS so will be great anywhere! thanx handy “person” for keeping quality with all you do! you have changed my contractor game. I thought i was the only one that cared about true quality in all lifes aspects. keep doin u!!! you deserve what you have earned.
Handy man they sell 1 by 1' sq. spong for your knees that work great I use it all the time not knee pads it's just a sq. spong cushion. Ones you use it you never leave with out it.
The number One home improvement channel.... in the ENTIRE world. I'm sporting my awesome T from your merch store today. Great fit and stoked to support The Handyman!
I have the cordless version of that sliding miter and it is unbelievable! Cuts all day on a battery. Has many features you can only find on the Milwaukee for half the regular price. Super accurate, I got it for $99 around Christmas time.
I've had a couple of those chop saws over the yrs for small jobs. Lent it to my father who left it in the bed of his double cab truck to drop it back off... in the rain. Next day bearings shot. Second one was screwed to a piece of plywood on horses just outside the front door. 10 seconds before my last cut sprinklers go off. Now it rides rough but not impossible to use. Moral of the story is that u cant get them wet AT ALL! My 12" dewalt double compound slider has been put through at least 6 of the 7 circles of hell for the past decade and is still way more accurate and slides much smoother than my kobalt 7-1/4. I still use it though. Cuz f@#% carrying that big yellow beast up 17 flights of stairs in the service corridor or richly rich's condo with the bay view just to trim out 1 door.
Nice detail.with the knife on the quarter round. I have seen guys that say caulk n paint makes a carpenter what he ain't. Well just one old man when I was 10 always be thought he could have done better especially with his experience
I know the feeling on seeing crazy caulk jobs in baseboards. I've done a ton of bodywork over the years and that's a whole other deal. When you see it you can't unsee it. 😳
So I do have a question for ya. Do you have a Preferred caulk for doing baseboards? I have experimented with alot of brands/types. That dynaflex ultra white seems to spread and look the best although the extreme stretch also goes on super smooth. Just curious if you have a "go to" that you have landed on after all your years of experience as a handyPerson....lol
In Europe, it is a thing, but it's not new. I lived in Italy for 11 years. My in-laws had what's called a water closet (if you ever see a movie filmed in Europe and notice "WC" on a door, that's why). It's literally a closet with a drain in the floor and a shower head on the wall opposite the toilet. Pretty convenient, actually.
You're the ZZ Tops! 😁 And maybe spending a little too much time in the mountains... 🐷👀 💕 (Multi tools work great too for cutting intricate molding cuts, wider pcs :)
*WOW* !! *Right out of the gate, 'it will be here forever OR until they remodel NEXT year* !! *LOL* !! *I know people who don't wait for next year* !! *Had a neighbor who purchased a NEW front door EVERY 2 weeks for about 1 year* !! *SOME of us know what we like and others live in fantasy land* !! #TheHandyman
The best thing about remodeling is that you learn where everything is for when you remodel the same room next year. You can put that on your resume.
"I can't call myself a handy... man / cut to BROUGHT TO YOU BY BOSSMAN BRANDS" Well done hahaha
Have you seen or used the shears made for moulding. Super sharp with an anvil base--$50 to $75 bucks. No dust and small pieces to pick up..

That little chop saw is sick, wish I had one for punch outs and shoe mold
You don't put sealant on the gaps of the floors?

please provide a link for the remote mic you use. Thanks.
What should I use to fill in a small drill hole in a baseboard? Caulk or spackle?
Either.
4:50 going by the book Im guessing, the long base molding should be overlaping the short one. so see less of the joint.

Very cool. Driwall joints are showing through, but the baseboards look great.
How do you cut it with a saw without it melting?

What is wrong with being a handyman. He is a great Handyman. Handyman , Handyman
I wouldn't think the nail gun would have trouble piercing a metal stud, I would just think that it wouldn't provide any holding power.
to quote OJ: "dem ugly ass shoes" LOL
Not only are you the worlds greatest handyMAN, but slowly becoming the worlds greatest troll!! Keep on sharing the love my Brother!!

Haha. It took me a second to realize that the toilet in the shower is only temporary.
Is that the new thing? Having a toilet in the shower?!?! Haha.
