Currently have Series 10 Strat, 3 Pedals and some Paperwork!
I recommend getting new tuning keys I’ve had two keys break on the series 10 strat copy I use. They seem to just be made of cheap plastic
That series 10 could also be easily mistaken for the union Jacks base of the UK. Isn't to much that it would take to make it the union Jack. Buy you some Hearos for when you want to rock out. You can still hear what your doing but it's not as full on in your ears .
If you could try get ahold of an Ibanez Premium you should try it. They're made in Indonesia but it is hands down one of the best built guitar, quality control wise, I have ever tried. If the quality has held up you would have fun checking those out.
For some dumb reason this didnt show up in my notifications... I am subscribed tho.. daily watcher
The Series 10 are awesome i got my super strat copy for ten bucks. I put thirty five bucks in parts an its super nice for a budget fixer upper. No its not for sale lol this is why i love my used players grade guitars.
the guitar's body is plywood, you can see all the layers in the pickup route
Is all off them that way? I think mine is maple or poplar.
The metal zone will never die! The more beat up the better 😂
yeah it's definitely got a story to tell, and IMO makes it even more metal.
love it when 80s pointy guitars end up on this channel.
Same
We need to get a BC Rich Beast on here lol. With a Widow headstock to boot!
Totally!
My personal experience with Series 10 was that when I graduated High School, my mom bought me a GTX 5 string bass as a graduation gift (1994, and still have it), later on, my brother picked up a Series 10 4 string bass, and it dawned on us that they were the same bass... we laid them on top of each other the bodies were identical, and the head stocks WOULD have matched had they had the same number of strings. The GTX I was told was made by Samick... and later found out that Series 10 was also made by Samick for Bently/Alvarez (then Cort made the later years of Series 10). But from what I recall from the 90s, is there was a time that Samick pretty much made anything and everything for the "other brands" of the big names.
In the route shot at 8:20 it looks like a plywood guitar to me. Also apparent in the tremolo route at 11:35. Very typical of an 80's Korean made strat copy.
Yep. Was going to say the exact same thing. 100% it is plywood.
I have one and it is. And it's heavy AF and one of my fav playing sounding guitars 😬
This guitar was definitely built by Samick in the early days, the bridge and body construction are identical to my 1984 Hondo Strat, also made by Samick. So it's pre 1988.
Series 10 was my first guitar back in the late 80's.
Mine too! Yellow super strat! 🤘🏽
Mine was also. I had a sunburst LP style. Think I paid $109 for it. My brother had a red strat style as well, think that was $99.
Love that he's a gibson dude but nice to see those 80s straty relics😮😅
Same here. Solid red super strat with a no name floating locking trem. Loved that guitar
hi, i have one of this brand, only a humbucker to close to the bridge. i bought in a pawnshop here in Mexico. for almost 20 dolars.
This was the best Troglys Guitar Show I've seen in a long while. You don't need to pay Gibson prices to have a cool and fun guitar to play. Lovin the return of Trade Tuesday.
My very first electric guitar was a Series 10 (by Bentley - LOL). It was my birthday present in December 1984 and was red. Literally ALL red. Everywhere. 😉 There are pix online if you search but the body, neck and fretboard were all painted red and it was hideous. Actually played pretty nice. I still have it though I swapped the bridge pickup to a PAF Pro in the late '80s. Some time around ''92 I sanded it down and found that the body was several layers of plywood (pretty sure it's pine) but the neck was a nice piece of maple. Certainly explains the thick layers of paint.
I had the same model. Ending up putting another Series 10 neck on it with a maple fretboard and a blue headstock. It was super fast!
Looking at the saddle height adjustment on that high E string, I think you can probably fix the fretting problem by raising the saddles before you go tweaking the truss rod. Those two hex screws on each saddle should be much closer to flush than sticking up that much.
That’s clearly a plywood body, judging by the shot of the pickup cavity.
LOL you know what was painted on that red and blue guitar, and it wasn't anything having to do with Eddie Van Halen. 😂😂🤣🤣😂😂
I had a Series 10 bass for a while.
It had a glue joint failure in the pointy bit on the headstock but it was an easy repair.
It's been a while but I think that's the stock knob.
It served me well for several years.
When I finally bought a real P bass, I gave it to a friend and I think he still plays it.
Series 10 guitars were sold at KMart back in the day. They came in a box with a strap, cable, pics, and a. gig bag. I think you could get sets that came with a cheap practice amp too.
My very first guitar was a Series 10 bass. I loved that thing and I still have it.
Squire just started making a 1 humbucker guitar. But I believe their's also has a tone control too, and no slanted pickup. The slanted pickup doesn't line up with the strings very well anyway. The metal zone thing is the pedal into the return only, not completely through the loop. Brian Wampler did a comparison of the two sounds
My first was a Series 10. Still have it 30 years later!
Love the metal zone pedal.
Me too.. for best results use it as a preamp through the amp loop jacks.
My first electric was a Series 10 srat. It was also a more traditional strat type, blueburst finish, maple neck/fretboard (upside down headstock!), simple strat style bridge & 3 single coil pups. I loved it, beat the hell out of it & pawned it to buy a bus ticket to my brother's funeral. Wish I still had it, I look for one constantly on all the market place sites.
Series 10 was my first guitar over 30 years ago it was a very good beginner guitar and would love to find one like it
lol.mine was th black lefty shred model.
The only Series 10 I owned was a bass I bought off a friend for $75. I did have a Crate Electra LP copy that was okay but I had to replace the 4th-6th string tuners. Crate Electra was also made by St. Louis Music. FYI.
I had a series 10 bass in the mid 90s looked like a Jackson, wish I still had it, that bass would stay in tune if you ran through a mine field.
Love the actual history lesson on Bently. I have a 96 LP with a killer flame top....photo finish. Yeah....doesnt dance at all...but it looks cool anyway. Ive owned it since new. I picked it out and my Fiance gifted it to me for my birthday in 97. I guess two years later after mine was constructed, they changed to Series 10. I was never able to suss out the actual lineage of Bently. Was unaware that it was the "Epiphone" to Alvarez. I did discover the St.Louis Music connection. But even that is a bit murky.
If some day you run across a Bently LP, Id sure like your opinion on it. Mine is a burst, with cream and black plastics and amber "speed knobs". The humbuckers and pick guard are cream and the pick up rings are black. The pots are typical cheap dime sized. The tuners havent failed me. It sounds bright. There are updates I may eventually do to it, but they will retain the look it has. Mostly updating the pots. They are not as good as they used to be. But for a inexpensive Les Paul copy, 25 years of steady use....Im pleased with what they have done.
As for your S Series 10. The paint job is a turn off. But it sounds pretty cool. Love it when the king of hyper expensive collectors gear steps off the mantle to handle the work horses of the common blue collar working stiffs. This is garage band gear. You made it sound a feel special.
perfect thing to watch while waiting for UPS to deliver a (New to Me) 2012 Gibson '76 Explorer - thanks Austin for inspiring (enabling?) me to get back to my guitar roots after a weird detour into synths.
I get it! I went down the rabbit hole of synths after tiring of guitar, from Moogs to modular.. then back to guitars. Now I have a house full of BOTH 🤣
My first guitar was a Series 10 strat copy. It was blue and it had a sticker of the cartoon character Underdog on the pick guard. Importantly, it never stayed in tune. I still loved that thing.
I absolutely love a single bridge PU, one knob guitar. It forces me to play differently, and I love that. Very cool.
I have a hondo 12 string strat copy and i love it, a friend modded it with fender pickups and upgraded tuners and nut. Plays really nicely, you can find some nice ones
Series 10 - Love them or hate them, their tuners were notorious for breaking and losing bushings. I've owned 2 over the years. Still have a crackle finish one. The body's were plywood, similar to the Kramer strikers back in the early to mid 80s.
Had one of these series 10 a few years back, a HSS with a 24.75 scale. Had a nice flamed neck but sold it. Been looking for it, it was pink
Adjust that bridge saddles (up) as well when you trying to figure out the "dead" fret. Also to me it look like the bridge was sitting tail end a little high. That claw shouldn't be screwed all the against the body.
Adjust the saddles, bridge, and then adjust the truss rod (if it can be adjusted.)
Isn't St Louis Music the company that makes CRATE amps?
I had a black Series 10 with red binding as a teenager in the 90's. I think I paid $130 or something for it, and that thing was an absolute SHRED MACHINE! 😎
I remember seeing plenty of these Series 10s way back when. There were cheap Jackson/Charvel knockoffs. However I had no idea they were the step children of Alverez Guitars. See, you always learn a little something on the TGS.
I've got a Columbus Crest supertele style guitar from the mid eighties, 2 humbuckers, pointy headstock, locking trem, yada yada and the headstock, tuners and truss rod cover on it look IDENTICAL to that. Its a plywood body.
The volume knob looks the same as well.
Buzz at 7-9th fret on back to the nut, truss rod. Further up, the bridge height. That high E saddle jacked up a hair might do the trick.
Back in the 80s the only guitar I owned was my Charvel Model 4. Our bass player had a series 10 HSS Jackson-style guitar that he brought around in case of emergency, and to plink around on when we were exchanging ideas.
It was hideous. It was a bright Ferrari red, had a matching headstock AND even the maple fretboard was finished in red.
The guitar was cheap, but for some reason, that hideous guitar actually sounded pretty decent, and it was set up well. It was surprisingly good for what it was.
One of my first guitars was a Bentley Les Paul copy tobacco sunburst with Dimarzio pickups which was a great guitar that I gigged with for a few years.
Liking the bit of Tool's "Sober" thrown in as lately I've been watching a lot of their performance of it from Reading '93, which is very intense and absolutely kills. When Maynard didn't stand in the dark and was in your face. I'll always remember seeing the official video of it when it came out and how disturbing it was at that time.
I was there. I used to always go to both Reading & Glastos every year back then, like religiously. Saw Nirvana open the bill on the Saturday in '91, then headline on the Sunday a year later. The amount of amazing bands I got to see just by going to festivals was crazy.
Pink Pop festival is in Landgraaf, the Netherlands. Reading festival is in Reading, U.K.
Not the same festivals or even in the same country.
Tool did play Reading that year (93) but not Pink Pop.
Don’t think they actually played that festival till the 2000’s.
@@GaryLoco Oops! I’m blending my concerts. Duly noted and edited! 👍
I had a Randy Rhoads style V Series 10 guitar with a Floyd Rose style tremolo back in the mid 80s ... it was a pretty solid guitar.
My first electric that I bought myself was a Series 10. I remember seeing their ads in the guitar magazines all the time and at the local guitar store they had my dream guitar a Ibanez Rg770 in laser Blue but there was about 700 dollar difference between the two guitars ha. So, I bought the Series 10 it was red and white, the white looked kinda like shattered glass. It was ok. I sold it and the crate amp I bought w/ it and bought an Ibanez like a year later.
You can always add another set of stripes in another color. Or how about repainting it with the water dipping method for a wild psychedelic paint job?
That delay pedal was interesting, might get one; really loving the Trade Up Tuesday!
I had an actual Bently strat that appeared to be constructed of a bunch of rectangular wooden blocks all glued together. When I stripped the paint off it looked like someone glued a bunch of Jenga blocks together LOL. But I also had a series 10 and it was all plywood.
Unless the original owner wanted it to look like a factory one, that paint job IS factory. I had one of those years ago. I can’t say I looked that close at the finish but I’ve seen plenty online (when I was evaluating it) if I remember correctly, I got about ) $120 for it, and it was in excellent to great condition. If that helps, but prices may be different now, that was 8-10 years ago.
I'm from Mexico, and i found one of this. is a single Humbucker but is parallel to he bridge and to close, and the body is same for but a little bit sharper. like an Ibanez RG. about weight it's super light, and it's rarely smaller. Neck long is normal 21 fret. and i bought for almost 20 bucks in a pawnshop. i have a Rocket Deluxe i known have history too.
My 1st electric was a cherry sunburst LP copy from Series 10
Pretty cool little guitar! Loving the trade Tuesday series, keep up the good work Trog!
That Series 10 has a pretty nice looking fretboard on it and I’d say pointy headstock and dark rosewood that neck is worth 100 dollar bill . That’d be a fun project guitar.
Hey Austin, Have you reviewed the Gibson explorer standard antique natural yet?
You could probably remove the blue stripes without damaging the red undreneath. You need light compounds that can eat paint, but not clear coat.
My first bass was a Series 10. It was 1988 or 89. It had a purple crackle finish because it was the 80s.
Love it, sober played at work today! Cheers to that! Btw incredible shreddin!
I just bought one today from someone at work and I am going to restore this bad boy. New pickups, renew clean the neck and give her a pro paint job with clear coat. Thank you for the video. Love that pony pedal man, very nice sound
The odd backplate screw looks like it could be the lost pickup ring screw.
That view of the cavity says it's a laminate (plywood) body. That brand was usually priced for entry-level players.
Love the Trade Tuesdays...thanks for bringing it back...i wanted the pedals! ..but have been all day trying to get on your website and all i got was a notice saying there was aproblem with it..???...let me know if they are still available.....thanks Austin.
That knob is the same as the ones that come on First Act guitars and they are actually pretty nice
The neck pickup on that Harley Benton looks like the pole pieces are way off to the left at around 1:06 in the video.
That Korean factory made import models for class axe (bcrich) the pick-up sounds exactly the same as those bcrichs circa 1990.
I also had a red series 10 explorer copy w/bolt on maple neck.
My first guitar, they just had so many guitars back in the day. Crazy to see one here, very cool.
My 1st guitar was a series 10 strategy copy. Had it now for about 30 years
The Bentley model reminds me of the guitar Mike Myers played during Wayne's World before his character comes into the pre-CBS Stratocaster. It looks like that type of budget Super Strat that was prevalent in the late 80s and early 90s.
As for the Boss Metal Zone, I'll tell you something I've discovered. It's a lot easier to get good tones out of it if you dial back the filter banks and the gain. I've never had that myself, but I have another Boss unit, the ME-80 multi-effects unit which approximates the Metal Zone tone. I had attempted when I first took it out of the box to emulate the sound of the Tom Scholz Rockman Distortion module. No cigar, but I did come close.
The may I help you guitar was a Schecter Strategy.
Dig, @@workingorder2189. 🤟
What was he playing during all the basement shoots with Dana?
@@ericbgordon1575 Guitar on SNL is a Washburn Force series model. Not sure which one maybe G10v or G23v. Correct me if i'm wrong internet.
Thanks for making it clear that it was a Washburn he played then, @Working Order .
Salutations Austin!
Unfortunately, I missed out on any of the pedals by the time I watched this video.
Although it is the time of year when I like to begin working on a Stratocaster project, this particular Stratocaster style guitar just doesn’t quite fit my requirements for such a project, however, it should be perfectly suitable for someone else, likely someone just getting started.
That is a satisfactory project guitar for someone, with a little work, it could potentially turn out to be something worth playing. The frets that have issues likely have sprouted frets that just need a few gentle taps. A good set of machines would certainly be an improvement too.
With some extra work on the finish, it could definitely be improved cosmetically.
Thank you for posting these videos!
Please have an excellent and awesome day!
☀️✨🎸
So cool to get to be a part of Trade Tuesday
Looks like a rebel flag!!! Good luck selling that one!!@
This was my first guitar. Series 10 all black! about 1993
I had a series10 in the '90's that was a great looking black and green crackle like that new JacksonKelly, but was junk plywood that rusted and ate the screws in the body. I'd still buy another green crackle like that for $108 again.
Single pup guitars kick ass. That drive pedal sounded fine but then I really dig those little inexpensive pedals anyway (got a couple on my board) but not a fan of the MT-2 at all. I don't like the thin, over-saturated tone from them. I know there are some fans out there but most players hate them lol. Ernie Ball pedals are always great though so that delay pedal would be a good buy for anyone.
Reminds me of a cross between a Kramer Beratta and an Ibanez and a errr something else.😎 Love love love the trade Tuesday Trog!!!
MY FIRST GUITAR WAS A SERIES 10 WHAT A BLAST THANK YOU BROTHER 🤘
trogly you were chugging for a second there lol
I just got a bc rich iron bird and its so uncomfortable and neck dives terrible. But damn it looks good hanging on the wall
You definitely have some skills on guitar. It’s not always apparent in your demos but you have clearly put the time in.
It's nice that Trogly tells some trade secrets etc. Not everyone would do that. 👍p.s. you didn't do too bad on the 10 series. It's certainly not unpleasing to the ear.
Hate when i catch ur videos at night when u drop them (hi from Sweden), cause then i have nothing to eat my breakfast to…
So....what is the connection between You and Austin ( saying things like, "It's and Austin Deal", I live 34 miles south of Austin. I had thought before I moved here I would bump into a massive guitar player, song writer, big blues gigging presence, but no....just the here and there music presence of people passing through on the way to some other mythic music scene local ( Nashville??) Your thoughts...Ps, enjoying your videos and you show a lot of courage tearing a guitar apart to show the inner workings. Have rarely seen that and Yeah.....speaking of Harley-Benton....I'd like to get their SG style electric sometime when I have more room ( newer house ) Guitars ( especially in their cases ) take up a lot of realestate.
Well, this one was something of a break-even for me, Austin. I knew about Series 10 long before you did, by virtue of shopping at a local guitar emporium not hugely far away from me. It's called Ron Busch Guitar Studio, if it's still there; it's been a while. I made several purchases there, but although Ron carried the Series 10 brand, I never tried one. They LOOKED CHEAP. I didn't mind that they WERE cheap, but they looked LOW VALUE cheap. Remember that this was back in the 1980s and forward, long before today's Golden Age of Cheap Guitars. Cheap guitars back then were almost invariably crap, so I avoided them like the plague and bought used guitars instead. Returning to the point, though, I was well aware of the existence and availability of Series 10 guitars back then, but remained unmoved to try them. Had I known then what I learned from you today -- that Series 10 was a part of St. Louis Music -- I might well have given one or two a shot. You understand that I'm from and in Saint Louis, myself, so I could have supported TWO, not just one, St. Louis businesses in one purchase. A shame to miss the chance, but oh well ...
How about a suggestion? I just got a Donner DST-400 four days ago, and I have been working on/evaluating it since then. I've run into a number of challenges and a disappointment, and after finding that what I got was really not up to the level of what most of the reviews I'd seen led me to believe I would receive, I wonder if these units were cherry-picked or specially prepared for review. On the whole I'm pleased with the guitar; I just wish I'd had had information enough to have a more realistic expectation of the quality these guitars have. It might do some folks some good to hear from you what you really find the guitar to be like. So that's my suggestion. Review the Donner DST-400. MAYBE even review two units -- one green and one black, both supposedly transparent. Imagine my disappointment that the "transparent" black I ordered showed up at my door two days late AND with an opaque black finish to boot. So the quality and transparency (or lack thereof) of the finishes are some of the issues you could address, if you choose to do so. I hope you will. Thanks.
My first guitar ever was an HSS Series 10 that my mom gave me when I was 9, I wish I had never gotten rid of it, they are impossible to find these days.
Found a series 10 super strat in the trash. Threw new electronics in it and it’s my fav strat style guitar. Also , did I mention it came in HOT PINK.
$425 for a used Harley Benton? Where are these buyers?
Cool to see you mess around with some pedals.
My friend had a series 10 guitar. 🎸🎸🎸 I would keep the klon copy and the delay pedal. Add it to your collection.🔉🔉🔉
I had two series 10 guitars one with crazy black and gold swirl paint the other one was white man that was a long time ago
$425 + shipping for a used guitar that costs $320 brand new from Thomann? Wow.
It was 425 shipped and you didn't calculate in USA shipping on the Thoman new price or consider this was an earlier one with "better" specs than what they currently sell. It was basically paying $50 for a fret polish and light set up, not too bad to many buyers
I got the Clapton newspapper clipping
Vester guitar here in europe , 80s Vester Pickup and knob
I have a chance to get a series 10 custom cherry burst LP for $150, but I don't even think if I cleaned it up I could get more.
A lot of series 10s were sold to new guitarists in the '80s. I hadnt played 1 that I liked though. All had high action and thick necks. There were quit a few better options out there back then for about the same price. Cort was marginally better. I worked at a local music store in the early '80s and we had a line of german made copies we picked up at a NAMM show. It included a double neck (bass and 6 string). Both necks played nice. Anyway, comparing low end copies from then to today is night and day. Entry level guitars today are waaaay better.
I have an Austin strat I put texmex fenders in and it's great
Those golden horsies are great. I’ve been using one for a couple years
I have the silver horse, which I think is basically the same pedal, but with a switch for different diodes. Josh from JHS pedals did a blind test of that one vs an original silver klon on the JHS show. If I remember correctly they ended up guessing the horsie was the original.
Dude I had one awhile ago. These are just awesome sounding clean or dirty
Totally shocked at the tones of this Bentley Series 10, great with gain, even clean not bad at all. There's enough subscribers now that someone here will no doubt pick it up.
I think you need a visit to the audiologist. Or you have very low standards.
Love that you slid a bit of a Ratt riff in there
Shout out to RAT! Those blue stripes are horrifying, just red! You can’t miss with a red guitar. You scored with the pedals
Why not put a set of Amazon locking tuners and increase value?
The CVH guitar
Shim the neck to get the angle up -- looks like a carvin p/u.
The first thing I thought upon seeing blue stripes in that pattern on a red background was "rebel flag." Van Halen never came to mind.
Sorry I didn't get back to you on that Jackson. Life happened.
You can stop the trade tuesday right now, you already did as well as you can possibly do with that Metal Zone. Might sound odd, but that random screw on the back plate isn't the one that's missing from the humbucker ring is it?
