  • The 10-Point Breathing System (a.k.a. The 10-Point Blocking System) is a traditional chi kung that embodies a strong Chinese influence and which is widely seen throughout various kempo systems. Simple, direct and consisting of some of the most universal body postures in the martial arts, this compact form is explained in copious detail, along with numerous applications and isolation drills. Regardless of your martial arts experience, this exercise set can be learned quickly, adapted to your personal needs and easily implemented to provide an incredibly powerful workout, while reinforcing mobility, posture, alignment and combat breathing.

    Looking forward to this one. I always like it when the more 'mystical' approaches are shown in a more scientific light so their benefit can be understood and extracted.

    Woah, kenpo getting some respect on the internet for a change. I've come to like Boxing Form (kenpo kata) to train the fasical connection from hands through core, along with variations to cover feet through glutes.

      Absoluteky. There’s a lot of great work in the system.

    Tactical Flashlights? - Hi Kevin -I know you sometimes read the comments. . I have bought a tactical torch Olight Warrior 3 S for self defence as it is the only "legal defense object" we can carry in UK. I looked at the short video on tactical torches are there any of your downloadable videos where you give more examples of how to use this type of defense object. I hope you could cover this with some applications in a future video. Now in UK we have machete and large knife attacks and I bought this to defend against edged weapons.

      I know it is off topic and not conneced to the video but not sure how best to reach or contact you and your team.

      Thanks for the question. I would say volume 2 of my EDC download would likely be the best option :

      I have elements in a few downloads but that one is probably the best overall

    What are the key benefits of this over the systema breathing and relaxation?

    • @Combatprofessor
      @Combatprofessor  Год назад

      It’s a totally different approach. It’s more about inspiration resistance training, and selective contraction. Rather than trying to relax everything, you are learning to control the body by doing the opposite-completely contrary everything simultaneously. So it’s extremely demanding not only physically , but psychologically and emotionally as well. There is also much more specific attention given to breath pattern and mechanics than systema typically teaches .

    • @scw3017
      @scw3017 Год назад

      Thanks Kevin. But isn't selective contraction still used in systema ie the point of impact when striking or being struck? Does this framework provide an endurance for when tension takes its toll or am I missing something completely?

    • @Combatprofessor
      @Combatprofessor  Год назад +1

      @@scw3017 yes systema does use some contraction but the ultimate ideal promoted by many is that relaxation is superior . My perspective is that contraction and tension are necessary and kata like this are achieving relative
      Relaxation or efficiency through erosion of antoginistic resistance. You over contract even while performing certain breath patterns to learn how to streamline it and become more efficient. You might find value in researching inspiratory resistance training. This was absent in systema. I’ve added it to my approach. It might help give you an alternate perspective based on performance research and some metrics for evaluating your breath work.

      @@CombatprofessorSo if I understand fight you use classical kenpo kata for, among other things, inspiratory resistance training? My favorite karate kata for this is Sanchin, personally, but it is a welcomed insight that kenpo kata could also be used for training the "microcosmic orbit." When I do a few repetitions of Sanchin my lung power feels incredible, which is very noticeable as an asthmatic.
      I've come to like multilateral breath training:
      • Butyeko nasal breathing in neutral states and long breath holds while performing exercises -- has significantly reset my natural breathing pattern at rest
      • Tabata for pushing limit of endurance, followed by burst breathing to deregulate
      • Sanchin breathing or other kata for unified body tensioning (fascia) while increasing lung power
      • Occassionally some abdominal exercises similar to yogic, really to practice muscle control

      @@trinidadraj152 exactly. It’s very similar to sanchin.
