Awesome, thanks Travis! Could you maybe also start showing how you would grip without a Gi? I assume for this one your right hand would be grabbing the head / neck?
This is absolutely what I lovely to see. Are you advocate of taking someone to the mat and then finishing with a submission? For example, an uchi mata to a juji gatame. That game I would love to see explained. Thanks for the content and reading the comments.
Uchimata to Juji is almost impossible to do. It requires a very specific escape by the UKE. But there are other are some other techniques that work well into transitions.

Especially bjj. Also the way you "dumb it down" or simplify it was great. Also including the drill for the uchi was good. Chaining takedowns for bjj. Blending arts.
Do you think about this more as an ouchi gari to ankle pick or as a missed / bad uchi mata to ankle pick? do you ever combine a missed uchi mata (or if you are like me just a bad uchi mata) with your ankle pick?
Yes it could but and over hook would work better. The over hook really allows you to roll through for the knee bar and also provide a great sweep opportunity incase the takedown does not go your way.
In a no-gi/wrestling fight I think it can be easily done while grabbing the wrist, why don't you want it? I think that grabbing the hand is actually more uncomfortable
It's not that it can't be done it's that your percentage of getting the technique or not does not go up by having it. There for making it a focused step actually hurts the over all technique. I want to make sure people know that they don't need rather than not doing the move because they don't have it.
U can also do kouchi gari into kibishi gaeshi, way more easy and fun than this, u pick up d foot with ur foot then place on your hand and apply the technique
O Uchi Gari to Kibisu Gaeshi Nage. It's a bit embarrassing to see an Olympian who doesn't realize it's a classic Judo technique. IJf is really screwing things up by removing all of Judo's leg attacks.
Good luck! I have high level wrestlers in my school that can't hit basic ankle picks because the grip on the gi throw them off. Which is why I showed this in the gi because there are better versions for NOGI.

@@TravisStevensgrappling The problem with any sport art is that they tend to stagnate over time and any real understanding of what is going on is lost. Don't get me wrong...there is a place for shiai, but if that's your only focus then the rest of the curriculum gets lost. It's been true with competition Judo for decades or more. Yes leg grabs with the mixture of judo and wrestling

Normally the lat over the back to hold them close. And left hand would hold the tricep.
Thanks Travis. Great technique. Love the presentation too - tell it like it is mate!

Gokor teaches that into a heelhook. A failed Uchimata to an ankle pick. Nathan Orchard also taught it too in one of his leglock seminars I went to.
