I just love how BJJ, Judo and combat sports in general are capable to get people together and make them speak the same language in terms of learning, respect and so much more, irrespective of their nationality, etc. Brotherhood at it's best! Thanks for the video!!!!
I would not want to mess with him outside. I rather walk away 🤣🤣. Judokas are no joke man. My friend is a judo athlete. When he gripped me I can feel the the whole mechanical in his body was like ready to send me fly.
Judo has a lot of awesome throws that they can't use on competition but BJJ could use. If I had the honour of having this sensei in front I would ask for those throws
Left grip vs right grip in this situation, but the same combination works right vs right and left vs left. Ko-uchi-gari and O-uchi-gari are great set ups for other throws.
Thank you very much, Sensei Satoshi and Professor Bernardo! I am a sandan in judo, who is learning jiu jitsu -- I'm 42 -- and teaching judo to jiu jitsuka. So much fun. The deeper you get, the sillier all the arbitrary rule sets seem to be. Judo and jiu jitsu are like two parts of the same puzzle! This ouchi gari into taiotoshi is great. There is no good reason not to dig in hard with an ouchi gari from the get go. Most people do it once and stop after their opponent posts. Consider hitting it 2 or even 3 times after each post, just driving with aggressive force. If and when their posted leg finally stops, and they are leaning with everything they have back into you, use that kuzushi (pull to off-balance) to get into the taiotoshi. The biggest mistake I see jiu jitsuka, and others who are starting judo make, is that they see the form, but they arrange their body inside of their opponents body, almost coming back into them. Secret: most all forward facing thows require a big, high, fast pull of the arm sleeve, to get the opponent on his/her heels, to then assume the form, with forward facing, but largely straight posture. The second biggest mistake people often make, is they treat taiotoshi like a hip throw, coming in too deep. Taotoshi is classified as te-waza (hand technique), but the extended leg should always end with the throwers foot, just on the outside of the thowee's ankle. Most people come in too deep, and literally block themselves from doing the throw, because their leg isn't trapping anything. Add a slight bend and pop up at just the right moment for added effect. Overall, this is a great combination -- especially if you have longer legs, but not exclusively. Thanks again! - Danny
I was fighting a beginner who always uses a turtle guard when i tried to land o goshi or ippon seoi nage, so i did the next combo, ippon seoi nage feint to o soto gari
That's an awesome throw, but what makes it better for Jiu-Jitsu than, for example, ogoshi or tomoe nage? Why is this the "best" throw for Jiu-Jitsu? I do really dig that little thumb detail though. That's super slick!
It's hard for a BJJ player to stop or take your back, what he didn't which we train in Judo is by the time you reliazed you we thrown will hit the JiJi Gatame, arm lock, it's super fast. We usually throw that with the under hook and you really hit the mat hard
I feel like most of these judo to bjj applications dont work as most opponents will stiff arm and keep their hips far back, judo players tend to be in an upright stance to begin with.
stiff arm and hips back against a high level judoka they are going to get hurt . judokas knows how to handle stiffed arm all their life look at helio gracie trying stiff arm against the judoka Kiimura he got throw like a ragdoll .
cherif legraf i agree 100% the judo stance is there for a reason but if you are a low level bjj guy trying to make this throw work. And your opponents aren’t playing that game then 🤷♂️ Point im making is i feel like alot of this content doesn’t translate directly across and needs to take into account the bjj stance, wrestling defence, guard pulls etc The majority of bjj opponents you face will not be looking stand straight and trade throws in a judo stance, and if they do then maybe you are playing to their strengths.
@@Oldhandlewasabitcringe good point . i can agree that specielly tai otoshi , not an easy technique to master but if you do master it its very difficult to conter . even for a good judoka if it is done right .

It's amazing how much disrespect some of you ju jitsu people on here display but yet most of you wouldn't last 30 seconds Judoka and Olympic and World Champion and ifbypu knew your history you'd know that without Judo you would have never known what grappling is, show some respect
“One of the best ever”😂😂 come on…there are tons of judokas with way more credentials than Ishii…still a super high level judoka but definitely not a “legend” or “ best ever”
Satoshi Ishii is a black belt in BJJ. But he’s showing judo here so he elected to wear his judo rank. If he was showing BJJ then I’m sure he would wear his jiujitsu rank(black belt)
@@holdenmuganda97 I was just trying to pull the joke on people who don't recognise judo. Judo throws are the most beautiful thing martial arts related
Every time I try those throws my back goes out.. Gotta keep practicing

I was stationed in Japan for 12 years, this is known as "Engrish". We adapted to their accent, and difficulty in pronouncing "L" and "R".
Great comment!
Bernardo is such a learner. People forget his white belt mentality that he has, was a multiple time world champ.
Gets absolutely slammed
Bernardo: man that’s awesome
Had me dying 😂
Hahahahah
I know he was hurting Lmaoo. Probably didn’t expect it
Seriously. I enjoyed watching the mat deflect as he came down. Really don’t think Bernardo was expecting such force behind the throw.

From growing up in traditional Japanese karate, it was very much emphasised
OSS! This is why to me it better to start with judo first than BJJ or gjj!
Who doesn’t love the introduction, “ huge honor for me”. Classic and classy.
Satoshi was the youngest hw judo gold medalist ever
Man, look at his posture, this is a trully intimidating guy.

This is extremely basic judo but it’s also very effective. As a left handed ouchi/tai otoshi player this is literally my A-game against righties.
I wish I knew what that meant

This grip works vs toroguy and shotoguy.
Seriously though great vid. thanks!
I was hoping till the end Ishii would throw Faria a second time with full momentum. There is just something about that mat smash.
I get the feeling he could snap that wrist like a twig. A whole other level of grip strength here :D

You rarely see classic two handed tai otoshi in competition now days.
Always find the judo way of fitting the gi nicer and more proportionate especially these days we BJJ people like wearing undersized gi.
Honestly I would be ashamed to wear gi this short 😅

The best combination is slap and bump, cause everyone goes down by themselves after that in BJJ
What if your opponent is very large and heavy, and cannot be thrown so easily?
He wasn't thrown he was pulled off balance and tripped basically.
That is fine but in a street attack, the other guy isn't wearing a Gi. No Lapel to grab.
So they are more likely to be bare-chested than wear a shirt or jacket?
Works with shirts, hoodies etc. Only animals fight in the street btw.
