This post of yours made me get Green neons, 25 of them..n u were so true!! They are hardier than expected, n the schooling behaviour & colours..ufff!!!
Funny and tragic cardinal tetras story. I had 10 praecox rainbows, a bunch of corys and a tricolor angelfish. I decided to order 30 cardinals. It's a 55g with 2 seachem tidal 110s so it can handle the bioload. The 30 cardinal tetras came 8n so small, that my angelfish ate all 30 in a matter of days. It was like The Killing Fields in that tank. Just cardinal heads on the bottom till my pleco ate them. They didn't last long
I used to have red neons & cardinals. But green neons seem superb! You can breed them quite easily. Following healthy diet of pellets & live dapnia, micro-worms, etc. a slim matured male and a fat female with eggs can be isolated into a 5 gallon (4" water level) container with mild aeration (stone bubble). Use a standard solid lid / tank cover. Wrap sides of the entire container / breeding tank with dark clothing to make a suitable environment. Tank bottom should be fully layered with glass marble balls to make egg traps (neons are voracious egg eaters!). Within 2/3 days you will find that the female has become slimmer. Work is done. Put the couple back into your main tank. Eggs will hatch provided aeration is ok with warm temperature of 27 deg.+/-. Feed babies after 2 days with infusoria, little amounts of full boiled crushed egg-yolk. Follow with little amount of daphnia, little amount of finely crushed micro pellets and finely blade-cut micro-worms (do it with cheap shaving razor blades). Change water carefully with narrow siphon on every alternate or two days. Increase water level very slowly as babies grow. Hope you soon have a large family of neons!
I've had mine for about 1.5 years, and I sitll can't get over their colour! They are extremely shy and definitely do better with dithers. In my experience ember tetras are great since they're fearless and orange-red contrasts the blue really well. They're also really curious! If I add a new fish or plant to the tank, they'll all get close to it and stare at it which is adorable
I love these care videos of yours! My baby sister got a tank for christmas and I've been sending my mom a lot of your videos, they're always fun, informative, and simple.
I love every one of your videos about fish and shrimp!! I have an aquarium hack that you may find useful for feeding tiny fish. I place some fish flakes in a cup with a small amount of water, and use a 10mL syringe to draw the flakes in and out a couple times. This turns the flakes into tiny pieces that kind of look like baby brine shrimp if you use the syringe to drop the mixture in. I use this method to feed my endler fry until their bellies are bursting every day (this speeds up their growth considerably). I think it tricks them into thinking they're eating live food because they like to chase the particles when they're first dropped into the aquarium and moving erratically, but they ignore the particles afterwards (though I think they eat the leftovers later when they're grazing since the leftovers are always gone an hour later).
I love green neons! I have a few in a school of some other neons like black neons and regular neon tetras. I really like the several different kinds all schooling together.
Just got these fish and I love them. They seem to have acclimated very well. There's a different tetra that is colourless but they still school with each other.

But the next day they start hiding behind the hardscape whenever I walk near to them. What will cause this and how do I solve it? Even when I feed them they also not coming out from their hiding spot

Very curious of your neon tetra in 8.0 pH.How are they now are they still alive? I've been wanting to have them but keep telling myself forget it bec. my ph is in 8 range
Thanks for the nice video. I didn't know you had Green Neons. I'm glad to have found a video featuring them. I picked some up a few months back and they were sold to me as just "neons" but mine look like yours and don't seem to have much red on them as normal Neons would. Started with about 25 and now have about 16. But after initial losses, they seem to be growing fast and are very content with their tank. Mine are shy like yours but when they came out they look stupendous and shoal nicely too! I hope to raise them to maturity and give a try at breeding them some day. Hopefully I can. Thanks for the tips. BTW, I just learned how to easily tell the Green Neons from the Neons & the Cardinals. Just look at the strip! the Green Neons extend from the head to the very end of the body at the base of the tail. The stripe on the other two species doesn't do this. Their stripe stops short. Green Neons have the longest stripe. I just checked mine, they are indeed Green Neons! #GreenNeonTetra
Great content - thank you ! Would you be able to provide an update on how your Green Neon Tetras are doing? I also have a high ph of 8 would love to get some green neons! Thanks again!
Really enjoyed this video, as well as all your others. Very informative. I think we found use for an empty 10 gal tank sitting by the piano. I do have a question. At 3:46, I see your honey gourami joined by two other darker ones. Our red honey was a beautiful bright color with a white substrate. When we moved everyone to the 20 gal long with a black substrate, he dramatically darkened. Have you found this to be so with your gourami?
Interesting! Yes, the two wild type/brown gouramis definitely got darker when I moved them from a bare bottom tank to the black sand. Whereas the yellow gourami looked paler on light substrate and more vibrant yellow-orange on dark substrate. Pretty cool, huh?
I am thinking of getting these beauties! I just don't know what types of plants would compliment their color and their body shape. I also live in Portland, Oregon and I don't know where to purchase these fish. I do know about The Wet Spot but I would love locations!
Would 2+ dozen green neon tetras do okay with 9 odessa barbs in a 75 gallon? Unsure if they'd be too shy to make an appearance. Also wanting pearl gouramis, a few golden dojo loaches, and 7+ panda cories. Sand, lightly planted with java fern, 6.5 PH, 74 F, and 2 60-gallon filters, lots of DIY hideouts.
Thank you! I certainly hope so. Do you have any tips on feeding them? I hear odessas are super fast eaters, might out compete the neon tetras for food.
@@davajo3868 Sure! I usually feed a bigger food for the bigger, faster fish in one corner. Then I drop the smaller food in another corner while the fast fish are distracted. Repashy Community Plus gel food (linked in the description) also worked well for me because the green neons like feeding on the little particles that fly off while the bigger fish focus on the biggest chunk. Hope that helps!
@@GirlTalksFish That really does! Will they eat any broken/crushed up shrimp pellets? I feed both the Omega tropical fish flakes and said pellets, frozen brine shrimp (does the package have to *specifically* say it's "baby" shrimp?), and frozen bloodworms. Thinking about trying frozen daphnia, would the tiny green neons eat it? Any of these foods they won't/can't?
They'll pretty much eat anything you feed your community tank. :) The main problem I had when they were smaller was that they wouldn't go after bigger foods, like certain pellets. But I'm sure if you crushed them up, they'd love them! Frozen daphnia should be fine. They had a harder time eating larger frozen foods, but they would definitely try to peck at them since they smelled so good. :)
How can you tell between a blue And a green tetra? They all look blue to me. So, what is the difference? Care to tell? Also, that shrimp on the right (3:41), what is it?
Good question! Rather than look at the blue-green line, I look at the red line. If the red line is very bright and reaches halfway across the body, it's probably a regular neon tetra. If the red line is very faint and hardly there, then it's probably a green neon tetra. Since the tetras can change the brightness of their colors, sometimes you have to wait till they're nice and relaxed to really tell. Finally, the shrimp you saw is an amano shrimp. Hope that helps! :)
Have you done it now? Are they shy even in such a big school? I got a school of like 10 and they've been very very shy for the past 1.5 years that I kept them
The pet store guys told me I can only keep max of 20 Green neons tetra in a 20 gallons, he said is a rules of any fish of 1 inch per gallon...should I trust them or I can add more? Please someone answer, Thank you 🙏
i got my ghost shrimp today!! They were in the same tank as the green neon tetras. What a coincidence. They were so cool I was thinking of getting one, but then realized I did no research XD
.y heart is broken. I love love love green neons!! They are my absolute favorite fish. I have only seven because they are hard to find. I was craving more so when my LFS got some in I bought two dozen but they all died!!!!! They were wild caught.
Ooo, that's a good idea! I used National Geographic black sand from PetSmart, spiderwood, java fern, and different anubias (nana petite, nana, coffeefolia, golden coin). :)
hello... can you please tell me what temp and ph is optimum for a tank of 20 neon tetras? currently they are between 78-79 degrees but it says somewhere they should be at 75 degrees and my ph is currently 7.4 and they should be at 6.5?? I really appreciate it if you could answer those two questions for now. Thank you so much.
Great questions! When doing my research, I really like the website seriouslyfish.com and accordingly to them, your tank conditions are just fine. :) www.seriouslyfish.com/species/paracheirodon-innesi/
@@GirlTalksFish OK because from what I read, if they don't have the perfect very low pH - it would be a slew of death so I've been afraid to try them. Same with Neons also.
Totally legit question! They look blue-green or turquoise to me, but they're known as "green" for some reason. Maybe people were afraid to call them "blue neon tetras" because regular neon tetras also have a blue stripe and then it'd be even more confusing? 🤔
They're definitely blue Neon Tetras. Some have a slightly greening pigment with the blue. If you looked at them every day you will see their blue colour change according to their mood and health. At night, for example their blue and read is almost faded while they're asleep. Turn the light on at midnight and see for yourself.
Welcome to the channel! I've been hearing of people coming from H2O Plants... where did he mention me because I'd love to thank him! I'm using National Geographic black sand that I got from PetSmart, but not sure if they sell it anymore.
It was a card in the upper right of his screen on this video (around 11 minutes into the video)... ruclips.net/video/ZyGBMNEb87I/видео.html It pointed people to this video of yours ruclips.net/video/Psv6ZMcpjR0/видео.html and from there I get to watch many of your videos. This is one that I asked the question on. Also PetSmart (at least the one closest to me) still sells the NG black sand. I was just checking the possibility of using the black blasting sand. I have heard a couple well known people in the hobby using it. But just not 100% comfortable with it yet. I am an oldtimer and sort of stuck in my ways I guess. LOL :-)
@@GirlTalksFish - Recently came across an article where someone said the only issues they had with the blasting sand is that it takes a LOT of washing and there were some common medications that turned theirs gray. Other than that I can't find anyone that can be specific as to why they don't trust it. As for the cleaning part some say they get a film that looked oily on the water when they washed the sand. It didn't smell or feel like oil just looked close enough that they didn't trust it. Others say that will wash out easy enough. I know from past experience there is no oil on or in blasting media. If there were the media (sand, needs, or anything else) wouldn't go through the blasting tube. It would clog up. So for what it's worth, that is all I can find on it. - Hope all is well with you and yours. Take care.
I’ve been thinking about trying a new tetra since I only have neons but the only tetras I can get locally are these more full bodied orange von rio tetras. Also does anyone know do other types of tetras school together or will they be two separate schools if kept together?
Ooo, I've always wanted to try von rio tetras! I don't know if they would school together with neon tetras, especially after seeing this video ruclips.net/video/8kF87bD3Wjo/видео.html. I do know that my tetras would sometimes swim together if they looked similar (like cardinal tetras or green neon tetras with regular neon tetras).

What size of tank do you have in this video? I'm thinking of getting the same community you have in this video.
Looks like a 10g
That's awesome! If you do have success breeding them, please let me know. I'd be very interested in learning your process. :)
Hey I wanted to ask but my green neon tetras keep hiding...any advice? The tank mates are honey gourami, guppies, snail, amano and otos
Love your videos. Darn it's snowing today...
I love the golds and the long fined neons
ThePetClub Aquatics I want gold really really bad.
What type of substrate did you use looks nice
Thanks! It's just generic brand black sand from Petco or PetSmart.
Could you pair them with a betta?
Can they be put in artificial plants aquarium set up? Or only planted?
anything artificial design is harmful for the fish
hi! can they stay with cherry shirmps?
would be ok to mix 10+ cardinals with 10+ green neons?
Yup! They'll probably shoal together at times too. :)
omg, did anyone notice the super fat Amano shrimps? Please share what you feed each of the species in your time, and your feeding schedule please!
Great content - thank you ! Would you be able to provide an update on how your Green Neon Tetras are doing? I also have a high ph of 8 would love to get some green neons! Thanks again!
Hi id like to ask if i can combine Yellow Lab Cichilid and Green Neon Tetra? thank you :)
What kind gravel better
Clear or dark to bring fish color more !??
I like dark substrates myself, and the green neon tetras seemed to really stand out on them. :)
@@GirlTalksFish Hi wich brand / model of black substrate are you using on this tank? looks prety black and nice, tks
What about them being with a slow moving blue lobster?
Can you keep them with beta
Would 2+ dozen green neon tetras do okay with 9 odessa barbs in a 75 gallon? Unsure if they'd be too shy to make an appearance. Also wanting pearl gouramis, a few golden dojo loaches, and 7+ panda cories. Sand, lightly planted with java fern, 6.5 PH, 74 F, and 2 60-gallon filters, lots of DIY hideouts.
I've never done it myself, but the odessa barbs should be fine with the green neon tetras. That tank sounds gorgeous; best of luck to you! :)
@@GirlTalksFish
That really does!
what size tank do u have them on the green neon tetras ?
Mine were in a 20-gallon tank.
I want to convert my 55 gallon into a planted tank and load it with about 100 neons. I love neons so much!
Have you done it now? Are they shy even in such a big school? I got a school of like 10 and they've been very very shy for the past 1.5 years that I kept them
will green neon and neon tetras school together? Will other Tetras?
The pet store guys told me I can only keep max of 20 Green neons tetra in a 20 gallons, he said is a rules of any fish of 1 inch per gallon...should I trust them or I can add more? Please someone answer, Thank you 🙏
How much would you say for 5.5 gallon ?
i got my ghost shrimp today!!
They were in the same tank as the green neon tetras. What a coincidence. They were so cool I was thinking of getting one, but then realized I did no research XD
Oh cool! They should get along just fine. Thanks for coming along and view my video. :)
@@GirlTalksFish yeah i got 3
.y heart is broken. I love love love green neons!! They are my absolute favorite fish. I have only seven because they are hard to find. I was craving more so when my LFS got some in I bought two dozen but they all died!!!!! They were wild caught.
Thank you for your excellent info and videos.
My pleasure! Glad to see another Coloradoan in the comments. :)
do you have a build video about this tank? i kinda want to do something similar but with a 20 long. Curious about the plants, and substrate you have.
@@GirlTalksFish How are they doing in your higher pH? Did you lose any?
@@karunald Nope, no issues at all thankfully!
@@GirlTalksFish OK because from what I read, if they don't have the perfect very low pH - it would be a slew of death so I've been afraid to try them. Same with Neons also.
Where could I get them online
Great info! Stupid question - are they mostly blue or mostly green? They look blue but their name confuses me lol. Either way so beautiful!
Totally legit question! They look blue-green or turquoise to me, but they're known as "green" for some reason. Maybe people were afraid to call them "blue neon tetras" because regular neon tetras also have a blue stripe and then it'd be even more confusing? 🤔
Lol! Very true...
In my experience they’re both colors, just depends on angle the light hits them 😎
@@massimoalegria4778 That's true; the coloration definitely changes a lot based on lighting! 💙💚
They're definitely blue Neon Tetras. Some have a slightly greening pigment with the blue. If you looked at them every day you will see their blue colour change according to their mood and health. At night, for example their blue and read is almost faded while they're asleep. Turn the light on at midnight and see for yourself.
Love the lofi music 🧡✌
What is the size of the tank?
My wife, the gamer's wife too!😂 She and I send you greetings, greetings from Russia! 🙋
New sub. Love your stuff. What camera do you use?
Samsung Galaxy S7 - nothing special. :)
Omg!! I have exactly the same species of fish in my tank! Albino corydoras, honey Gourami and green neon tetras! 😂
Would Algae make good tankmates for these guys? I got a bigass school of em.
😂🤣😂
Hi, just found you channel from H20 plants channel.
What type of black sand are you using?
LOL :-)
@@jlathem56 Haha, same here. Some people say it's fine and other people don't like. Thanks for the link; I'll definitely check it out!
Take care.
Loved this
Aquatic Clarity has them. You can find his store online.
WHERE DO I GET GREEN NEONS???
