Yet sometimes soldiers report sightings of what can only be described as actual monsters, or in other cases, otherworldly beings. Are these battlefield stresses, or are men whose lives literally depend on remaining alert and aware, seeing things that the rest of us might miss? Do mythological beasts stalk our battlefields? Do curious aliens observe from a distance, making notes on our primal, savage nature?

My grandfather who has since passed away used to tell me when I was younger. When he was 19 he served with the U.S. Army and was stationed in the jungles of Panama. Him and his men used to see humanoids jumping through the trees at night, he went on to tell me these weren’t people nor apes. My grandfather was the most honest man I knew and he wasn’t known for making things up.
I served in Afghanistan, Kunar province, back in 2010-2011. This one particular incident happened during one of my platoons OP guard duty rotations. One night, me and two other soldiers were doing our routine surveillance of a near by road, just down the hill from our Outpost. In our NVG (Night Vision goggles) we could clearly see a young kid a Shepard, walking four goats up the road. All three of us was watching him. Until I removed my goggles and noticed that the person walking the goats was only visible through our NVG's. The Night was pretty clear, and although it was dark, you could still easily see the silhouettes of the goats. But there was no body else. We could clearly see him with the goats through our goggles, but as soon as we would take the goggles off, he would vanish. Goats were there, but that's it. No person. But with goggles he was clearly visible. Until this day, none of us who witnessed it, could explain what actually was it, or what we saw that night. But all three of us seen the same thing. I still get the goosebumps, just talking about it.

I've been hearing and reading about the helicopter-snake story since I was a little kid back in the 70s (long before there was an Internet to perpetuate and encourage the creation of tall-tales). It's probably the most credible of all of the stories. The pilot was highly respected, and there's actually a photo.
My brother was serving in the US Army at Ft.Hood Texas and he claims to have seen aliens in front of the Home Depot on a regular basis.

Ohmygosh! that mist-fog brought back memories about 50+ years ago when I was in the USN. My job was to work on a plane at the end of the line. Our airstrip was on a small peninsula jutting out into the ocean. It was about 3 a.m. and a fog rolled in. I literally could not see my hand if I held it up, the flashlight was worthless.
I was just 18 and I was terrified. Where was I, where was the hangar? Where were the planes??
All I could think to do was yell! My Chief heard me & yelled to me to walk to the sound of his whistle. It took me awhile I was so scared. He was standing by the tie-down line and told me to always use that line as a guide if I ever had to work the line again.
But even he was a bit nervous because of the thickness of the fog, we both started testing the strangeness.
You couldn't use a light, it was absorbed, you couldn't grab onto the mist though it looked like you could, your body developed a light unusual dew all over as you walked through it not very wet but sticky.. It was dark too, not white mist which was probably why it was so spooky. Aren't fogs white? This one wasn't it was like all light in the world was gone.
Maybe it was because of the ocean because I remember the fog also smelled funny. I was on that base for four years and there was never another fog ever.
All these years later and I remember that strange scary fog.(or whatever!)
That was literally a fog of war those guys encountered above Vietnam.

A very scientific view of this: the giant squid was a tough thing to find. Even though we had seen them before we believed that they were mythical since nobody was willing to hunt one. It was too difficult. Catching a gasceous creature or a giant croc would be near impossible.
There needs to be a part 2 to this, lots more paranormal encounters during war time happened
1:46, could easily be a blue wale, when we see something for a split second and are unable to catch details, our minds fill in the gaps.

That fog is just like the ones that my family seen go through the house from upstairs to downstairs, or the other way some time after my grandpa died. My grandma seen it when my mom was about 10yrs in age. Also a 2 co-workers have seen something or been through it. My family and co-worker live on a Indian reservation. But I never saw it, but am open to the cause of this. One co-worker claims to have driven through it and time seemed to slow and all the dials went crazy until he passed through it. Again on the Indian reservation NY.

That opening number is an obvious tall tale. The amount of energy you’d need to propel a 20m monster through even a couple of yards of water to be visible for ten seconds in the air would be enough to rip said monster into a fine mist. Physics says that first one is a load of bull.

That cloud of gas thing I've seen it somewhere, My friends and I were in the bathroom at school and the description you gave that cloud sounded exactly like what we saw, We ran out of the toilet and told a teacher that saw it too, but after a few minutes it was gone
I’ve heard stories of mirages at sea from navy personnel that can kinda confirm the story of the Flying Dutchman. I guess it makes vessels appear as if they were flying miles above sea
To be fair-- Many soldiers have withnessed supernatural events, if these are real or just illusions/hallusionations caused by pshycological stress are up for interpetation, but I have a few funny examples: During my time in the military, some of my COs told me a few stories from their own, and other's experiences during their time in training to become an officer, they had to endure many days, if not over a week, with little to no food, rest and alot of hard physical excersices and tasks, so it isn't uncommon that some individuals aren't mentally able to handle this and breaks down in various ways-- but these two examples are a little different, it isn't uncommon that the COs of those training the men and women attempting to become a CO play a few mind tricks on them, for instant: One story was that two people were sitting guard at this watch hill in the middle of the night, they were tired, hungry and exhausted after days of little rest, food and alot of physical work, so their COs decided to play a few tricks on them in the middle of the night, two COs took a large tarpaulin and snuck out in the middle of the night, standing on one edge each they started to rattle and shake the tarpaulin, successfully making the two watch post guards to believe they saw the ocean, and waves-- in the morning, these two people were CONVINCED they had seen the ocean, and even said they had seen a ship pass by. Another instance of this, but a little different is that the COs had hung up alot of pizza boxes in a tree the COs-in-training where passing by after a long march-- everyone saw the tree, and the pizzas, but no one said anything-- when they were asked about it afterwards the majority of them said that they didn't speak up or say anything because they thought they were hallusinating and losing their mind due to lack of sleep, food and being mentally and physically exhausted.

There is a trend of paranormal/mysterious encounters during conflict.
My mom was once in a bus, on a road, with other cars. Left and right are jungles. Then suddenly every car stopped including the bus car lights are closed. My Mon said that the driver said that a giant snake was trying to cross the road, so they closed the light so it won't be bothered. Strange. Giant snake?
