Thanks
I have all of these items lol
Not to mention the bad lifters on MDS systems just had to do mine in my Durango supposedly the newer ones are better we shall see
Mine was the crank shaft position sensor. I found it with no codes by unplugging things one by one. When I unplugged the cps I heard the fuel pump kick on and I knew that was the problem.
Please do a video about Japanese Sports cars and supercars please?😁😁😁😁😂😂😂😂
I'm not even a car guy. I just watch your videos because of the personality.
Austin Banks-Wilson haha probably half of us
It’s good for everyone unless you’re super rich to know basic things about the car they are driving
fun
Me either, though I do know to buy a 1994 Toyota Celica the next time I need to replace my car... and to have a qualified mechanic like Scotty look at it first.
When he laughs, an animal laughs with him. I like that a lot.
My father brought a brand new Durango back in 2001, drove the hell out of it, past it on to me, I drove the hell out of it, and then sold it when it hit 295000 miles. Honestly the best vehicle we've ever owned. All new cars have electrical issues no matter the manufacturer
I think every car is good if you keep up with the maintenance. Only reason BMW gets a bad rep is because most can’t afford to maintain a BMW.
@@juanbzan5557 don't buy a car if you can't afford maintenance. People are going broke tryna look rich
@Juan Bzan Don't BMWs come with a lifetime maintenance package? Pretty sure all my friends with one got that deal.
01 Dodge trucks were one of the worst ever
Ours was awful 99 Durango in and out of the shop in 07 for oil pressure and sludge related issues, engine died 2/12 and trans died in 2017. Despite all that transmission began slipping again in 2022. Had towed to junkyard at 177,000 miles on the frame. POS truck
It's a dodge. That's the common problem. I've had a few dodge products. What I love; 5.7 Hemi v8. A monster and a workhorse. That's about it.

weve had/have Chryslers....yeah...dont recommend it
Exactly my point you made it perfectly clear. But when it comes to Chrysler products I think I figured it out by re-watching his video I think there was a person in a dodge whether it be male or female violated his wazoo
I will give you this Scotty is very smart when it comes to working on things. I think he sometimes gets really cocky because once he made money he was able to get an Asian mail order bride. 20 years younger than him. Now he thinks he’s the stud. Well maybe that makes up for the person that stretched out his wazoo That drove the Dodge
The blank is whichever car maker sends the check last. Since Chrysler don give a # they are always last.
xygomorphic44 And 99% of those comments are true.
Shoutout to Chrysler keepin' mechanics in business since forever.
Actually ever since the late 70’s and 80’s they have been bad but before that they were great and barely had any problems
Also, let's give a quick shoutout to Christina Applegate
It gets worse! Chrysler has been replacing the good certified mechanics with these young kids who just completed a REALLY short program because they can pay them half what the good mechanics got!
Funny. I used to say the one good thing about owning a Chrysler vehicle is that it gave you plenty of legit excuses to talk to the cute receptionist at the mechanic shop. If nothing, it is an excellent wingman in that sense.

I had a 99 Dodge Durango 5.9 Liter 4WD A lot of money in and it barely squeaked past 100K miles. It died a slow death as I drove it to a Toyota dealer to claim my cash for clunkers benefit. Still driving my 2009 Highlander just regular maintenance 150k miles and it runs like a top, not one leak anywhere does not burn oil starts every time. ymmv
I got 99 problems and a Toyota Celica ain't got one.
i have serious problems and my car don't have not one of em.... good or bad i'm not sure
TheDeathTank01 You must be a bachelor.
Had a 2015 dodge charger RT. Water pump went out at 40k miles. At 47k miles, engine started ticking, dealer said it was a common HEMI tick and put higher octane gas. I find it stupid dealer said its common. Sold it when it had 50k miles and the suspension started giving out some noise. Did not bother to check. Glad I sold it.

@Douglas Hamner why? Because he speaks the truth? 😂 You own a Chrysler huh?
Scotty is a great mechanic for showing his customer how to get the defective alternator replaced for free. A lot of sorry mechanics would not have cared enough to do that.
I'm at 196k miles on my 2014 Charger and have been lucky thus far with my control modules. That said, there was some fun and games hunting down codes and replacing sensors after my fuel pump crapped out 10k miles ago. Gotta love modern sensor-controlled everything...

It's just a recall for alternator. Its free. Dodge's aren't bad.
(Toyota had gas pedal that gets stuck floored and exploding airbags while driving but i mean toyota is perfect. Who cares if your car flew into river or airbag exploding while driving
bigger problem is alternator. Of course this was sarcasm. Toyota is great but other car manufacturers are also great. Scotty is great mechanic but why always "because it's dodge this is wrong".
Take for example dodge demon you can do hundreds of burnouts and still drive home normally.
Every car has good and bad things. Don't hate car because of one thing. Scotty should just say people if you have durango check the recalls.

The recalled fuel pump relay is complete garbage..
I purchased a $20 relay and another that's in glove box... Haven't had a problem since..
A buddy of mine did the same exact thing lol.
Same here. Got a spare relay on me smh
Sometimes aftermarket pieces work better because theyve been tested.
Wonder if this is what’s wrong with my friends challenger, started not starting after filling the gas tank at only 20k miles, took it to the dealership multiple times and they couldn’t figure it out so they gave him a check basically saying he couldn’t sue them or use the lemon law. I’ve been buying used Lexus with over 100k and driving them past 200k before trading them for a new one and I haven’t had as many problems as he’s had with his brand new challenger lol

"Oh did you thought this is just Large Grand cherokee? I beg to differ" - Chrysler
Scotty is right the central computer programming is to blame for these. I had a 2011 Citadel after 3 years of owning it I started having these issues.
- replaced the alternator
- recalled the fuel pump relay (then it started not shutting off the fuel pump after engine stop (would come out to 1/8th a tank less)
- multiple recalls to replace the sunroof wiring harness (possibility of setting the car on fire)
- Central computer was replace 3 times
- Recalls for the possibility of the engine not shutting off on rollover (programming issue)
- Recalls for the possibility of air bags not deploying on crash or deploying randomly!
- Adaptive Cruise Control would freak out anytime I passed another dodge
I've lived inside and out of an engine bay since I could turn a wrench. I'm also in IT and I actually got the car to exhibit the conditions while decelerating down an off ramp form 65 to a 25 mile an hour turn Engine stall (confirmed with scanner at the dealer that it thought it has rolled over) computer replaced.
I was contacted by a law firm that is doing lemon law on I think 2010-2014 but it would have taken 18 months or more SO... I traded it and learned my lesson.
They look cool they have power but they are literally death traps.
The first year they came out some had issues. I have had three dodges without issue
Im normally a ford man but, i have a 98 Dakota 3.9l automatic and iv never realy thought much of dodge but i hafta say this truck has changed my mind. Well built, runs great, reliable.
The current 3.6 v6, 5.7 and 6.4 v8 great motors

Most of these guys never owned a dodge but think they know everything about them smh
Thats because its prior to the 02 change over and Daimler only built the 4.7, everything else that year had been around forever from a power plant standpoint.

@Barbie Sioux Cherokee Sparrow Hawk I remember at one point they were recalled for bad ball joints.
@Barbie Sioux Cherokee Sparrow Hawk don't misunderstand the old Durango's that share the similar chassis with the Dodge Dakota, they were solid schrock's but there was a small number of them that had defective ball joints in the early 90s very early 2000s
Agree with you, my 2013 5.7 with 145,xxx miles hasnt had any problems, been having it for 2 years

2005 Dodge Durango 4.7L owner here. My Durango has a bad Body Control Module (Chrysler calls this a Central Timing Module). When the car is parked the dome lights randomly turn off and on. Sometimes the dome lights never act up when parked but most times they do. When driving, the door ajar dashboard light (along with the dome lights) randomly turns off and on which also makes the doors lock and unlock if driving faster than 15 MPH. When you get passed 60 years old, you feel like a Dodge
Have a 2013 SXT - same exact thing happening to me.
There’s a common recall on many of these years - the fuel pump relay.
It could be that, or a faulty ground. Both are very common. Also the ignition is VERY sensitive, and even the slightest graze against it can make it shut off.
Good video
I just called a dealership today about a great price on a 2012 SXT Durango. It has 96,000 miles. Should I avoid this vehicle? Did you have your issues resolved?
@@mc540flip Eh I don’t know. I think you should.
My issues never resolved. In addition to the stalling I ended up cracking my transfer case, which is a $2500 repair. I never fixed it as I had enough and just traded it in for a 2018 Ford Edge SEL which has been a wonderful vehicle so far. Much better than the Durango.
My other big gripe with those year’s Durangos is that the SXT’s V6 offered almost NO pickup/pep. They revamped their V6 around 2018 to make it a reasonable acceleration. The vehicle is just too big for less than 280 hp
@@mc540flip I think you should avoid it I mean.

Very interesting video.. it shows how you combine new technology with the crazy years of experience to diagnose a new car.. it would take that experience because even though someone could buy a scan tool like that and fix 20, even 50% of problems, there will be the other 50% that will require that experience to diagnose almost on a forensic level! It's an awesome skill to forensically diagnose a car.. in fact, I have a tundra that will need that sort of skill and can't think of anyone in recent experience that has combined true experience and high techery like you did on my Lexus... The guy before you had experience, but he would have never figured it out without replacing multiple parts, costing me a butt load of more money... So watch out Scotty, Tundra coming your way soon!
When the fuel pump on my 92 Explorer started to go out it would restart after about 10 minutes. I chased that problem for a long time but the clue was that it would only happen on a hot day with less than half a tank of gas.

If its eating water pumps then you have another issues. Did he pull a lot of weight
I know this is an unpopular opinion but you guys have to understand that Scotty is a mechanic and mechanics tend to hate the cars they work on the most(believe it or not). As a Dodge owner, I will say Dodge loves to cheap out on some of their parts and it shows(which is ironic because when Dodge first became a company the whole point was to build high-quality cars that were better than what Ford made) With that said the car has never had any major problems and only has had minor problems along the way and overall has been a great car.
Another good trick is to look for U0100 network comms codes. The module without them is the one shutting down. I tracked down a random hard shift on an Allison to a bad firewall pass through using this method. The vehicle would hit a bump just right, the bulkhead connector would unseat, and the trans module would turn off.
