I love Mopar and have two Jeeps and a 300 and I have owned 3 older jeeps as well and I love them but the wiring and computers are horrible and won't buy one again unless they really step up and fix those problems but no matter what Mopar V8s are so fun to drive

The Dodge Durango is phenomenal. I have a charger 392, but love our Durango RT as a daily driver.
I have 260k on my 2005 Dodge Magnum RT with the 5.7 HEMI. No issues what's so ever! Certainly very good engines.
So far 96,000 on my 14' Charger R/T. Not a single issue in the last 4 years I've owned it. Treat it right, and it will treat you right.
The tranny was usually the issue. My m had an 89 newyorker that needed the top end of the motor rebuilt at about 100k, the the tranny went around 120k. And it was maintained, she loved it, I've known other people with tranny problems, I had a 98 RM sport , shortbed white, factory lift..I loved it. It had a rebuilt tranny when I got it at 140k , I got it from my dads friend , I had a friend who owned a tranny shop and he used to say the same thing... Dodges came in the most, dodge has had good style for a long time..and they make a good v8..but its the other problems that are the reason I wouldn't buy one. In the early 90s my uncle worked for Chrysler ,he was in a board meeting and the CEO at the time said we fae about numbers more than quality.
@@bernie472 96k is nothing... Although when my mom had her 89 new yorker, it was about ready to have the heads rebuilt by that milage, even though it was maintained well, at about 120k the tranny had to be rebuilt

I’ve always been a dodge guy and frankly I’m skeptical of their plans to ditch their #1 seller the Hemi especially since most of us dodge guys swear against electric vehicles like they’re talking about trying to push lol hey if they do that I don’t see too bright of a future for them and the old ones are definitely gonna go up in value that’s for sure

I don't think it was ever up to Dodge to begin with, too much pressure from the EPA tricking down through FCA. They probably just got told to kill the V8s and try to convince their customers to go electric. But I agree it's going to be rough for them.
I bought my Ram before I discovered Scotty but I’m loving it. Knowing that the clock is ticking even faster in Ca, I went out and bought a single cab Ram 1500 with the 5.7 a couple of years ago before they become extinct. Glad I did. I don’t see very many on CA lots these days. I know it’s still new, but so far, I’m loving it. Just went on a 2500 mile road trip recently and it’s not only powerful, it’s comfy as hell too. I take care of my vehicles so I hope she lasts! Wish me luck!
My 2010 ram 1500 hemi has 238k no issues.
I rented one for a weekend. It was freaking awesome. Just the R/T. I would never buy one but it sure was fun!

Hellcat’s are my dream car.

I have owned one and I never had a single problem. Super practical. Super fun. Ergonomics are phenomenal.
You couldn't have owned it long. Older dodge sucks, for the most part. I had 3 older, high milage dodges, that pli think had the normal problems fixed before I got.them, one was my 99 Durango SLT I bought w 252k , because I liked it a lot, ,it was 400 bucks, and it shifted like it was new. Had the 5.7

Well I must be crazy because I bought the Hellcat Durango. I've had it for a little over a year and had zero mechanical issues. It runs like a bat out of Hell and the power just never quits. I've only had it to 145 because places to take it to top end are hard to find but it has been solid as a rock at all speeds. I love it!
That’s what I wanted to get very very nice vehicles but I don’t have the gas money jus my 5.7 Hemi full tank only last me 3 days. If gas was cheaper I would prolly get one too. Hope you enjoy it bro
Does the hellcat have the same 160mph governor?
@@johnv6806 The only "governor" on the Durango is the natural one of horsepower vs. weight and aerodynamics. The SRT has 475 HP and the Hellcat has 710 HP. Dodge claims that the top end for the Hellcat is 180 MPH and I have no reason to doubt that because their stated acceleration figures are spot on. My Hellcat has done 0-60 in 3.6 seconds and the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds at 115 MPH.
Mine feels a little bouncy. The dealer said it's stiff because it's still low mileage. Did yours take time to break in ?
@@tfunknationtown I'm not sure I know what you mean by "bouncy" but if you're talking about the suspension being stiff, it is designed to be that way because the SRT and Hellcat versions are supposed to be more of a performance vehicle and a stiffer suspension gives better handling. It won't change.

Speaking of towing... the police in my City have a bunch of Durangos in their fleet and I'm constantly seeing them being towed on flatbeds (and they are nearly new).
Won't be too long till it's on the back end of the tow truck 🤣 after all it's a Dodge/ FCA product, either it will break down or be wrecked out
@@thesultan4030I have a 17 RT, they don’t like the excessive idling that usually happens with police work. i’m at 90k and only had to change coolant hoses. I run AMSOIL for all fluids as well.

My friend bought a 2017(?) Durango with the 5.7 Hemi for around $17k and is doing a few modifications to it, it is basically a budget version of this, maybe not quite as fast, but 1/3 the price. He already knows he'll probably have to replace the transmission and transaxle since he loves to drive like a maniac. He also loves Dodges and knows he may not be able to keep them forever. Meanwhile I basically baby my 2011 Camry and '94 Ranger. We have different priorities and different budgets, lol...
How many miles?
It’s all about the smiles per gallons 😊, having a cheaper second car as the daily commuter helps at the pump.
Or only driving 3 days a week, like me.
Just get a motorcycle if you're after smiles, fuel efficiency, and reliability. :)

I got a 17 Durango r/t just two weeks ago and I’m in love
I don't like dodge but this 👌🏻 I love
It is funny, because I paid $13,000 with tax and fees for a 2009 Charger R/T with 12,000 miles on it back in December 2017. I only have 70k miles on it now and KBB still saying it's still holding close to what I paid for it. Only thing I've really had to replace was the water pump and the brake master cylinder, which I fixed myself. Still going strong, although I think I need new front struts. The engine is heavy as hell.
Same, but I have a 2012 Honda Odyssey I bought in early 2019. It’s not deprecated at all (well, I’ve not checked prices in 30-60 days) and at one point it was worth a little more than I paid for it.
Them 5.7s are heavy. Fully dressed I think they come in around ~550lbs give or take.

Check your motor mounts. My 2006 Hemi Charger had a bad ride & I knew my mounts were shot, but also thought the struts were going bad (currently 165k miles). After changing the mounts, it rides much better now. The drivers side mount was in 2 pieces and the passenger side was barely holding on.
@@The_Gallowglass they're great motors, I'm a biased mopar guy though lol bought the wife a 14 Ram and that thing just goes. I daily drove a 5.2 2nd gen ram for what felt like a small eternity and that truck had such a lasting effect on me in a good way.
You should’ve showed the computer glitch. It’s far more common than you know. Both my 2018 jeep srt & trackhawk had the same issue. Computer would freeze on a blue screen or just turn on and off multiple times. Really annoying stuff. Best part was mopar telling me there’s nothing wrong with it every time I brought it in. 😊

I had a rental of one and man it drove so nice! Sharp quick steering, didn’t feel heavy on the turns at all, nice growl, badass suv look. It pains me it’s a dodge. Wish Dodge was the most reliable brand in the American market, shame it’s not, if it was, I would consider it for sure!

Our baby hauler is a 15 cx5 "black and chrome" (w. the roof rails.) Trust me when I say we look VERY badass not breaking down on the road or burning oil or having the engine explode. Also we only go to the gas station twice a month max.
I feel downright guilty that we're not being pulled over constantly with how badass we're living.

Hey Scotty, my dad has a 2019 Charger RT Scat Pack with the 392 Hemi V8 in it and man its a beast.
We have a 2014 Durango Citadel with the hemi V-8. It now has 115,000 miles. Just replaced the water pump - no other engine related issues. It has been a great family car, tows the boat, groceries and dogs. We are still happy with it. I replaced the rear brake pads last weekend and those were well designed for an easy change. These are very nice vehicles.
Do these exhaust sound good as well?
My 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee has the 5.7 with the German made 8 speed transmission. My 2014 Charger RT has the 5 speed German made transmission also. Sounds like it is the only component of the cars I can count on. Both are fun to drive. Gas mileage with the 5.7 is not too bad. 18 mpg mixed and 22 mpg highway with the Jeep.
I've been looking to get a 2019~2021 grand cherokee with the hemi and was curious on the gas mileage. Nice to see it's really not so bad.

I’ve owned 6 Chrysler Minivans since 1989 and have not had the problems some people complain about. And being that there’s so many on the road, anytime I needed a repair that are cheap to get back on the road.
I've had the problems......my family has had the problems....they were crap. Some people get lucky. I've had high milage dodges that lasted though, I think they already had their normal issues fixed
@@richsweeney1115 I only had 4 out of 6 Chrysler Minivans went over 250,000 mile before I moved them on 2 were totaled do to Deer Hits.
Thats why i like 2nd gen durango they have a solid frame

Whats a PTO? I only heard the term used by HP who combined their sick pay with vacation pay & called it PTO personal time off
@@cme98 Power Take-Off, It's generally a direct connection through a shaft on the engine/transmission that you connect machinery to.
As a non-farmer, it took me a couple seconds to figure out that PTO must stand for Power Take Off and I probably might not have figured it out without the farming clue.
@@cme98 Paid time off. Lot of companies went to an aggregate PTO arrangement in lieu of preset holiday time off. Employees get x number of hrs/days to use however they see fit..

I just learned about cylinder deactivation on our 2013 Honda Odyssey... horrible stuff. I'd love to hear your take on some of the things folks are doing to keep those particular systems from activating.
Get a vcm eliminator , I just added it to my 2012 honda pilot. It disables that system. Just look up vcm eliminator for your model and year, super easy to install

@@irritadad1848 I got the s-vcm for my 2010 accord too. Been about 2 years and everything's still going good. I hated eco mode. Ruined my spark plugs, and I have a feeling it's why my cat went bad too. Runs much better now!
@@ifensler Check! I used some of the savings of doing the valve cover gasket/tube seals/spark plug/coil replacement myself (rather than the dealership) to get mine. Hopefully there's no more damage waiting to surprise me. Best of luck!
Sport mode
I feel the need to chime in, I just junked a 2018 Durango RT with 90k miles. The vehicle was horrible, dealer couldn’t fix it. We bought this vehicle new and the issues started within 2k miles.

It's so ironic. A lot of my decision to buy a 2021 Tundra was based on information I got from you, Scotty. So when my wife starts talking about trading in her 2014 Dodge Journey Crossroads I finally convince her to test drive a Highlander. It just did not fit. She is a long legged 6 footer. From there we tried a Honda Passport, Kia Telluride, Honda Pilot, and a Dodge Durango GT Plus with the V 6 engine. She decided to get the Dodge and I don't know why expected anything different. That make 5 Chrysler products
The Chrysler products have all been a good fit for us. Now with your some what positive comments on the Durango I'm more optimistic about this choice.
How can someone pass up Honda, toytota known for reliability., for a dodge that are known for problems.... Maybe you've been lucky...but if you research...most people aren't.

The ones with the 6.4 hemisphere (392 hemi) are pretty good. If you get a dodge , these are the ones to get believe it or not.
The rams with the Cummins are built very well. Mine currently has 230,000 miles with no issues
Rented a car for a month, they only had a dodge journey to give me. It was so incredibly bad. Underpowered, uncomfortable, infotainment looked like one of those old chinese MP3s OS. Just a terrible vehicle all around.
Meh, I've owned new chargers, challengers, and a ram; they're all much better than people give them credit for. Only the ram gave me any issues
Scotty your all over the road on these cars.
So, fun fact with the cylinder deactivation in the Chrysler. They evenly activate to prevent uneven wear.. unlike the cadillac engines in the 80s 😔. Still more to go wrong with the touchy electronics of these things 😬
Dodge has improved a lot in quality...
The new Hornet is intriguing to me, since I already have a fullsize SUV. Poor man's Alfa Romeo Stelvio: great handling, stout motor, and enough space for your kids to flail their arms in terror while you take the corners at 50mph

I just got a bronco sport and I dont see it being any better than that and probably wouldn't have got it over the bronco.
What else have dodge used a 2.0L 4 cylinder in? How do you know its a good motor? And no one knows anything about their hybrid one because they've never done one before.
The stelvio you're comparing it to is a 50-60k dollar car so don't expect that. The tonale is the only thing I've heard it compared to which is 40k. The hornet is lower 30k.

I bought a loss leader Challenger and absolutely loved it. Beautiful, fun to drive. I also kept my eye on the ODO and sold it at 20k miles.

Almost any car you ever buy will always be worth significantly less than what you paid. The average car depreciates half its value in 5 years.

We love our 2016 Citadel. We have the Pentastar V6, which has plenty of power for my wife, but boy would I love a HEMI in it.

In 1978 my first employer out of College was A computer Cobol programmer at Chrysler Dodge Main in Hamtramck Michigan. A few years later the plant was demolished.

Scott, ALL late model Durangos have the ZF 8-speed transmission, though with slight variations between the ones used with the V6 PentaStar and those glued behind Dodge's Hemis. ALL of these ZF transmissions are American-made in Kokomo, Indiana by Chrysler under license.

If he paid $63K for that thing, he stole it. They are currently selling for between $73,000-$85,000! I just bought a new Charger Scat Pack and boy, did I get a haircut. The dealer sold it to me right off the truck and didn't even have to pay any slotting fees--and I didn't get even any of that action. It looks like he didn't get the Technology package with that Durango. I was always against bells and whistles--more to break. However, that Tech package has automatic hi-beam dimming. You never have to touch the hi-beam switch while driving at night--one of the best features for me.

And the beauty of that car made by a real company is not only the they're the only ones that offer a V6 and a base model then a hemi then a 392 and then a hellcat version, no one else offers anything like it in the segment. And it's doubly perfect because sometimes a man with a family can't really afford to have his dream hot rod with a big hemi engine so he can combine that with his wife's grocery getter and still win drag races at the stoplights with the air conditioning blowing and the tunes blaring. People stopped to look at a 392 Durango like they never will any other average SUV. Especially not an explorer with an Eco puss

The ecoboost is no joke dont get me wrong love the 392 but an intake and off the shelf tune on an ecoboost and they are quick as hell

My gosh my it was like driving a mattress. What a car. But wouldn’t want to pay the repair bills.
Much easier if you buy the parts and do it yourself. Ive had several repairs which would have cost thouands each but I sorted them out with a few hundred bucks in parts and elbow grease.

Really loving all these videos Scotty! I own a Durango Express 2011 and although its a beast and excellent for towing a trailer, its not without its challenges.
Recently had to get transmission rebuilt at 150k along with lots of part swaps over the past few years. Even after the rebuild the transmission still has the notorious slip clunk when downshifting occasionally into 1st from 2nd. Chrysler transmission is indeed crap! Was wondering if there was anything i could do or part to swap to correct this. Cost me close to $4k and now im thinking i should of had my transmission guy just replace as oppose to rebuild. They have a 2 year warantee on it so im thinking about bringing back in. I know 3rd gen durangos have a plethora of known problems associated, would love to see a video on your channel. Its a shame because even the base models with the v6 flex engine are solid other than the specific issues these trucks are prone to. I dumped too much money and time into this vehicle already, plan on keeping mine for a while and then eventually looking at a subaru or possibly a honda pilot. Thanks for all the honest and hilarious content.. you really are the best!

18 not bad , my 1998 5.9L JGC 4X4 got 12MPG no matter how I drove it and only Supreme gas worked or it would ping.
I love my 2004 ram 2500 I bought and it dose just about everything I need it to do

That Diesel is too dirty for the U.S. Would be nice with their last aluminum version of the V6 they used in the Outlander.
L200 is the second worst of the small diesel pickups. In order of best to worst: hilux, dmax, ranger, bt50, colorado, l200, amarok.

@@cormaro1376 I’m going to assume that you just got your license, or have no knowledge about a car other than how to start it.
Because of the bouncing from the shocks or struts failing will also put a lot of strain on your car’s suspension system. By not doing it’s job - absorbing the shock - not having them replaced can lead to damage in the ball joints, wheel hubs, and many other components of the suspension. Without something to absorb the shock and energy of hitting a bump, it spreads throughout your car and will lead to damage. Not replacing worn out shocks or struts will also cause premature tire wear.
