Oh wow! I have a 15 mo old grandson who lives in Juneau Alaska. His Dad is a whaleboat tour captain & his entire nursery is nautical. Need I say more-this is perfect as a gift from Nana!
Having grown up in Newport, RI, I can attest to the beauty and accuracy of your perfectly lovely shells, Diane! I'm a massive fan of W&N's Potter's Pink, especially it's granulation. That little piece of coral I'm told is called "brain coral." And isn't the other puffy sand dollar called a "biscuit' sand dollar? I have a fairly extensive shell collection, and I take it wherever I move in my life. Your painting is like a letter from home, Diane. Such a treat to watch this painting in process--very much like ASMR for me, having nodded off continually through this one! Many thanks again. It's such a privilege to be on the receiving end of your nature things, from Tamsin's gifts during her walks, and your shell collection, and your beautiful animals talking to us each lesson. We just dodged a tornado, and this was my first relaxing thing I've done since Thursday! That said, all 'round perfect video. xx Fanna
Thanks for the lovely compliments Fanna! So glad you enjoyed that video, I must do another shell one soon. I was lucky to live in the Bahamas for a while and shells like those were constantly being thrown up after heavy weather on to the beach. We took it all for granted, nothing special, then, but I doubt there are so many nowadays. My collection is uncurated and random, but still means a lot to me and wasn’t that easy to bring to France from the Bahamas! Glad you avoided the tornado, what a horrible thing to have to fear, I’ve never experienced one but I remember the three hurricanes I have been hit by with less than happy memories!
My 54 th. Gift from the sea by Lindberg popped up my screen and I remembered seeing one of your videos relating to this book. So I looked and found this one. Very relaxing and seeing you not trying to copy the real shells and even using colors that you like (different from the real shells) makes the subject much more fun. Thanks for sharing. It is again a video that helps to let go of perfectionism and putting fun and relaxation at first.😊 the next thing a will do right now is searching for another video related to the gift from the sea. 😊Wim
This shell painting would look so nice in our cousins beach place. What a nice gift it would make. I do belive your the best artist I have ever followed 💜! Please take that as a compliment!!!
Thank you so much Lori-Lynn! I certainly do take that as a compliment, and I very much appreciate it! Do give it a go - I think you’ll find that painting is easier than you think especially if you make sure you’ve got some good paper! That’s key to this particular technique! Good luck and happy painting!
I so enjoyed painting this with you today! Since the challenges began, I haven't been doing your youtube tutorials, so this was a treat! I have learned so much from painting with you and I feel very blessed to have found you! ❤
Oh that's wonderful. It really is a masterpiece and full of such wonderful thoughts. She must have been a fantastic woman. I must read more of her books x
I've got a whole bowl of shells and Potters Pink....can't wait to give it a try. When you put the blue on the starfish I gasped but what a beautiful finished product......I've learned more from you in three months than in the last three years of dabbling around....thanks so much Diane
I love this - I’m soon moving back to the inland sea and working in marine science center- I’ve thought in the past shells were hard to do but this we’ll help.
I'm so happy to have found this tutorial. I'd just about given up finding something special for my daughter for Christmas but this was made for her bath decor!! I also have to say I feel properly chastised by the teacher. I'm afraid, until today, I was one of those that used to scream that I hate granulating paints. I didn't know quite what they were for or how to properly use them so of course they were in the absolute wrong places in my paintings. Thank you for being so honest and for being so good at explaining the hows and whys of what you do. I love the way it looks on the shell and now that I see it can't quite imagine how bland it would have looked without the granulation. I'll try to remember to post a pic on facebook when I'm finished!!
That’s great Debra I’m so glad you have learnt to love the granulation - it’s not easy! Hope your daughter loves the painting - and wishing you a very Merry Christmas !!
She LOVES it !! Come to find out she was looking for something to put in that very spot in her bathroom!! I was wondering though, will it be safe?? Is it to hot and steamy?? Is there something I should do to it to make it able to withstand that environment ??
@@debrasiddall-montanez1813 as long as it’s framed behind glass. Well enough to keep out any steam. It should be absolutely fine. You can use a two yourself frame but make sure you tape the back so there’s no gaps between the backing board and the frame itself. So glad she liked it.
Diane, I so enjoyed watching this relaxing painting tutorial. I had to back up the video a few times to see just exactly when that starfish popped out in such a three-dimensional way and realized it was when you added the iridescent, then it popped even more with the white gouache and more of the paint shading. Each and every shell looks so beautiful! The video and music was perfect. Very zen :)
Oh, I love Gift from the Sea, one of my very favorite books that I read over and over again. The lesson today is lovely and one I’ll definetly try. Thank you❤️
This was absolutely darling. Can’t wait to try it. I would love to see a frame laying on it for the finale. Also how close are those delightful birds to your studio? They sound like they are in your rafters, cheering you on. Thanks

I like this music. ❤ That star fish has a beautiful design.
The background colors! The sea star! That pretty pink shell! Let me try🥰
Thanks Shawna! The paper in the Etchr sketchbook is really nice to work on!
