- I finally found the perfect place to build the ultimate car guy compound. Tons of car parts, tools, and a motorcycle were left behind. So today we're going to sort through everything, throw a ton of stuff away, and start cleaning things up. A new house, a new shop, and a place to build cars better than ever before... but the house has some strange secrets of it's own.

I saw the thumbnail and thought to myself that I would not want the clear glass on the doors as anyone could look into the garage. Glad to see you felt the same way and took care of it and did it very nicely.
If you are on an even tighter budget, Lowe's & Home Depot both have frosted vinyl (and other colors/patters), along with the install kits needed. Did a garage door on a previous house for less than $50 for all 4 windows (across the top).... probably about $70 now.
The doors look amazing, and the A/C will be installed right before the summer heat. The garage will be more like an attached showroom when finished. Love it
That’s the plan! 💯
Yes! Garage doors!
Finally the wood covered opening is gone! 😂
Many good things in this video.
Always nice to see Jake's BMW!
The doors made quite a change, but personally I'm not a fan of black doors. I do agree it's nice to have
some windows but my OCD only allows me to put the windows on the top panel of the door, so there's
less chance of someone busting out the window and crawling through...
The new opener seems to work great.
Love these videos you post about house progress, great variety on this channel.
you should do a one way mirror style of tint so you can still see out but no one can see in
I like the frost because it really pops at night when the lights are on 🍻
One way mirror only works when the lights on the side you don't want to see into are brighter then the light on the opposite side. At least that's how it was in the early 90s.
@@WatchJRGo dope af!
I was going to say like 5% tint but thats a good idea too💯
Was it just me or at the end of the video there was no longer any frosted glass. ???
You should make one of those RUclips “Shorts” of this consisting solely of 23 seconds of wordless squeegeeing. It will blow up the channel.
I’m impressed how quick they are, love the glass idea as well
I never comment on your videos, but I recognized the little song you sang when you installed that first piece of vinyl. It made me smile. 😊
Ratgdo for the win
Hugh Heffner would love those garage doors 👌🏻
He would approve 💯
I would have flipped the glass on the 8 foot door so the glass was on each end. Look 😂at pattern frost. Some are pretty cool looking
Looks great. I appreciate you taking the time to show the whole panel of frosted vinyl going in.
Yup, tension springs are terrible. Had one break in garage. Fortunately for me, my contractor had placed a safety cable through the spring.
These sure didn’t have safeties, and the cable was held on by a C clamp 😳😳😳
Those doors turned out really nice!
Torsion springs break too. They don't fire shrapnel though. Extreme cold is the most likely time for one to break.
Oh yeah… and it’s cool/scary to see them fail. 😳
@@WatchJRGowith your experience, you’ve probably seen 100’s of broken springs. 🙄
There is also frosting spray paint. A lot quicker to cover the windows.
Meross or Ratgdo ( Rage Against The Garage Door Opener) in place of MyQ. Hmm. I personally prefer RATGDO as long as you put it in a case or stick it in the garage door opener assembly so it is not seen.
I love the garage doors. Very different and unique. Upscale addition 👍
Super pumped!
I self frosted the bedroom windows on my house...love the frosting.
Looks great! Wet install looks way easier and better than the dry install I attempted to frost the window in my shower.
Looks awesome!👍🏼👍🏼
Awesome videos - Keep it up!
I see screws holding in the inside window frames... Cut the vinyl to fit under those frames for a much easier install.
I was saying the same thing. Plus it keeps the edges from peeling down the line
Grandpa's truck, what a gift.
Just an FYI, you can get frosted glass from a spray can. Much cheaper and easier to do. I used it on my clear shower glass.
The doors look great. I live in upstate NY and I heat my garage. Look into the "Green Hinge" to keep air from blowing into the sides of the doors. I installed them and now I retain the heat in my garage. I know it will keep the hot air out this summer. My heater doesn't come on as ofter either. Great investment!!!!!!
Those look amazing! I would frost the glass too.
so far I've been pretty happy with RATGDO, the ESPHome version. the other version was crashy.
Looking good.
They look cool!
A+++ Fantastic installation. Looks awesome.
At last!! Țhe update we’ve all been waiting for! 😂It looks really good… you guys, and the door guys worked your asses off.
"It's going to take 2 or 3 days!"
two hours later
"The doors are in!"
Bang up job, John. Those doors look great brother! 👊
Thanks bro! 🍻
Gotta say, I drive by a house on my way to work every day and they just installed a door like this with the windows stacked on one side, and think to myself "that looks so trendy and dumb". But on your garage, I think it works so well! Also good call with the frost film 👍
Mirror finish tint over the window frost vinyls.
What was your reasoning behind going with two doors instead of just opening up the original garage door hole and doing a single much wider door. Was it a structural thing? It may look better in person but skinny little pillar separating the two doors just looks kinda awkward. 🤷🏼♀️
I was wondering that too
Probably didn't want to do the extra effort just to have one door. You would have to tear all of the framing out and completely redo everything. It isn't as simple as just removing that section splitting the openings.
@@coltonkruse2313 it’s already expensive though and lots of work so…
I realize I'm late to the party but if you remove the inside trim of the windows (it should just be a few screws) you can more easily frost the glass. Depending on how the door is built you might want to have someone on the outside to hold the glass but usually they are glued in for weather sealing anyway and the inside trim just makes it easier to replace the glass if one gets broken.
The devils in the details. Frost the long garage window. Powder coat the rails, mounting brackets and door hardware to match the new cabinet colors. 👍
Fancy!!!
Them ain’t garage doors… Thems HIGH FASHION! 😏
Get tint instead of frosting.
Beautiful doors
Who Hoo…those look great!
Garage doors for what you do and have are critical.
I have a 12x16 mini barn with a loft and a 8 foot roll up door. I was told the floor is built strong enough to support a car but it's mostly for storage.
The drivers live under the Carport and driveway.
Enjoy your improvements and it'll be interesting to see how everything turns out when done. 👍
Looks fantastic ! Here in Prague, garage doors for apartment blocks are nearly all Hormann brand.
Why not do a mirror tint so the glass is functional from the inside out but not from the outside in?
Are you gonna frost the street side window as well?
Years back, my brother frosted the glass in his back door( living room to back patio) with just a can of the fake spray snow tgey sell around Christmas time .( He had just moved from OH to TX, so we sent him a can of "snow".)
It was still intact and looking decent when he moved out of that house 20 years later...
Should have taken off the plastic trim around the windows, frosted, then put the trim back on. Would have been really easy.
What's going on with MyQ? I have had it with my new garage door for over 2 years now and I have not had a single issue. I didn't even know that there was an issue until you mentioned it.
Chamberlain killed off the smart home integration, which is problematic for people who bought the device to use with smart home integration, and now Chamberlain reaches into your home and kills off functionality. Apparently you can still use a smartphone app to operate it, which might be why the marketing team thought they could kill it off. If the device works for you, then great, keep using it. It came already installed in my home..
New extension spring doors have a cable that runs through the spring so when it breaks, the spring doesn't shoot across the room
Loving the garage. Get an lg oled for the tv
For security you should have ran the glass across the top of the door. Someone small could brake the glass and squeeze in.
Nice doors.
Now its JR DIY Channel 😅😅😅😅❤
I made signs for 18 years and this cans of Sprayaway glass cleaner is a constant companion.
Good taste in garage doors. I've had the very same doors, colors and all, going on 4 years now. I couldn't tell if you had the silicone wheels rather than the steel ones. You want the silicone ones, obviously since they are more quiet.
The glass would look great limo black you can still keep prying eyes out and still see
Should've done mirror tint on the glass
Should have two channels? Would love to see one purely for home renovation with Erick. Then focus on weekly content nicer cars.
Looks good! I have curtains over my garage door windows so I can look out if I'm in my garage and someone stops by, won't be able to do that with frosted windows.
you should expand shop with a few identical bays and an office - you need elbow room and maybe some more storage
Regarding TV install, haven't you still got a couple of box fresh Samsung 70 inch sets that you didn't use at the old place?
JR-Another tip for frosted windows 🪟 doors 🚪 is a roll of car window tint (limousine black ⚫️ is good)
Marantech makes a dead quiet closer
Looking good! I'm guessing you are going to epoxy paint the floor?
I love the house vids I love working things thst people wont
Why the frosted glass? You have a security system and you literally show everyone everything on RUclips lol
Wow. I like the doors. Not sure I would have liked the window... but I do.
Good Evening John Ross
Hey Douglas! 🍻
I could have sworn I saw Jake's Maxima in the background...
You should just get the reflector that makes it where they can't see in, but you can see out for your Garage Windows.
What is up !! 100 percent
Grandpa's truck deserved this
Link to the vinyl? Looks great and I want to copy it on some windows i have!
Would not have ordered the glass - easy access!
Very good video my comment
Had one of those tension springs break and launch itself in my garage once. It sailed right over the pristine '84 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe I had then and punched a hole in the sheetrock in front of the car. Car was untouched. That could have been much worse.
JR.. what is the model number of the crushed glass? is it a 3m product?
Looking forward to the my q fix. I have 2 jackshaft openers. And a gate all on my q and it kinda sucks
So when are you painting the outside of the house to match?
From a security point of view i'd never have windows in my garage doors. A very easy break in point.
are you going to partition your home network putting the smart devices on one network and home computers on another?
There’s already an IoT network setup for all that stuff 🍻
Makes me think 🤔 about changing my “Barn Door” style garage door to a center lift door on my garage. So I can have an opener installed. It will make my arrival home on my Harley-Davidson so much easier. No more needing to get off to open the doors before I can ride into the garage. 🏍💨🏍💨
I didn’t want the neighbors to know when I was in the garage and so my garage doors and walls have no windows. Also, much more security!
I have a very similar set-up. I have a 16' door & a 9' door with the same openers. I use My-Q without issue.....
Side springs usually have a safety cable running through the center so they don't pop your vehicle when they fail.
Curious how long the adhesive on the frosted vinyl will last or if it will yellow over time with UV ray's. Looks great though!
There is no adhesive. It's just surface tension. If the edges get loose, eventually the film will lose contact bit by bit over time. Getting the edges perfect from the beginning is key. Also don't let water get under the edges when cleaning.
Can never why have windows if your insulating your door, I had a door with windows hated it it still put a little heat through the window.
That’s way a few years later I replace the top of the door with a solid insulated piece and it help a lot also my door faces the sun.
Is that the CarTrek Maxima I see back there??
How the lake house project been going lately
The doors look great, but I would’ve put the glass of the small door on the other side so you have the glass on the outside of the small door and glass on the outside of the big door more symmetrical
Check your glass warranty if you’re adding any film… sometimes films can cause unintended heat within IGU of the sash/window and blow out the gasket.
Perhaps facade is not in direct south light… but, check the deets.
Curious what the solution to MyQ is. I need to get a new opener soon and was looking to get the same model here.
RATGDO
It's the next day and Jake is here. Is he from State Farm?
Is this in CT
Tint the Glass
Epoxy flooring?
$300 per window is a lot for frosted glass lol. Its almost like they dont want you to do it. "we'll do it, but you're going to pay lol"
Will you frost the window too?
