Hi, great video! Keep it up! One question, though. Can I burnish after painting? Because I want the edge to be very shiny and not matte/rubbery-looking. Thank you! Your reply is highly appreciated.
Thank you, I've used a few other brands edge paints so far and i found fenice is durable and easy to apply. also i can add water to control it's thickness. i'm not so sure about the temperature. i think about 70℃~90 ℃.
@@synwannleathercraft8506 No...ordinary acrylic paints do not penetrate the leather, they sit on the surface, so can easily peel off...from personal experience!
Hello, i`m begining to work with leather, i want to know if only you have to use a paint edge to finish the edge or you have to put a sealer or laquer before or after you put the paint ? how can i do volume in the edge only putting paint or i have to do something else?
i put sealer if there is a big gap between layers, if you want volume use awl to put edge paint. you can use sealer to give it a volume and then apply edge paint on it later.
it's called edge paint or edge coat. cheap one will peeled off easily. if you can buy 30ml of Fenice or giardini or any that at least have brand would be good
So if you are making a strap that let say is 24mm wide if you apply the edge cote it will be wider that 24mm....how is it going to go thru a 24mm buckle once the all process it is done?
Thank you for the video. Currently making belts that I'm dyeing then painting the edges using an Angelus acrylic leather paint. There is a challenge in dyeing everything but the edge as I'm not sure if the dye will allow the paint to properly apply. Do you have any experience with dyeing then applying acrylic paint directly on top of the dyed edge?
I do and it does not work. What tends to happen is that it does apply ok, but can peel right off if the edge gets damaged. Acrylic does not penetrate the leather, it sits on the surface. After having an idea to edge my leather wallet with a fluorescent blue color for a change, I spent all day preparing the leather only to ruin the whole damn thing...Live & learn eh!
I used angelus edge paint (good quality?) and I don't have a filiteuse, are the heatable edge paints required to be heated? What should be done if you don't own one, besides get one.
i never used angelus edge paint, i believe it should be good since they make leather related paint. don't need to be heated, but it's good for durability and reduce steps to have better looking edge. my next video about edge paint is coming very soon. will show how i finish edge from start to end.
Thank you for this very educative lesson. I am very happy that I find your video, it's the first one for edge painting that I find helpful and very nice finish. I will try to find the edge paint you use but I think from The Netherlands it will be difficult to find. Maybe some suggestions online? where to find. thanks alot for the video greetings Sus
HI , I am trying to apply edge paint for my leather bracelets which are about 2 mm thick and 8mm width which is quite difficult to paint it with out error , you will save me a lot of time if you can help me with a good solution to do this neatly , do you think edge painter machines can help ?
sorry for the late reply. if your work is a lot then i don't recommend any machine for edge painting. swept away with finger as soon as you find any paint over flow.
adhesive didn't work good enough before so they used hot tips to make the edges stay firmly together. nowadays, put the line to make it look good, give it more classic look, and some creaser tip can make the edges more smooth, which means no need to use edge beveler.
Nothing compare to the strap that you show at the beginning of the presentation, you may went to other steps or maybe wait to really dry, it was something missing. Anyway thank you.
No matter how hard you’re trying or how many layers of paint you’re applying , you will never get perfect edges, especially when we talk about watch straps. Never! Same thing goes for burnishing .
That’s a nice looking strap
Awesome work. I learned a lot from this video
You don’t sand paper before painting? What about burnishing it before painting it?
How dou you clean if the paint bleed from edges to skin side?
I'm glad I found you youtube channel. It's very informative. I just started into leather craft so hope you can post more about it. 😁
정말 대단한 작업이예요😀
Thank you for the video! I wanted to ask what grit sandpaper you used in between layers (sorry if I missed it). Keep up the good work!!

great job!
i have a question that the what is the temperature of your heater ?
it's approximately 70~80C
The handle of my purse 2 inches of the edge is not sticking. How do I attach (glue or heat) what do you think.
Good job! Why did you choose fenice? And what is the temperature of the soldering iron for this paint? Thanks :)

Just beveled anc burnishing is far more durable.

You bevel the edge. It takes a little material off.
@@squigglyphrank9348 painted edges are square and you would never bevel after painting or before for that matter.

Why would you want to paint your edges on a belt instead if staining and then burnishing the edges?
Could you please tell me what glue you use and the make of your clamp. Thank you.

Heat is heat, I wax ,furbish with wood then canvas... think about wood,no mater how rough the varnish still dries with a sheen
Would this paint be waterproof and transfer proof?
yes
Nice Video!! Question for you what type of glue do you use ? Thanks!
Mathtight thanks, its Intercom Ecostick 1816B
Can you burnish the leather first, or is it better just leave it clean cut? Cheers
Joe Peters leave it clean cut, don't use tokonol because it will block the edge paint to soak into leather.
Good!!! vedio.
Thank you!

if the surface is already smooth enough and flat then yes, otherwise i won't.
