Just realized my flight would arrive to Newark, so I was very nervous about how to get to Manhattan. This was so straightforward, now I’m not afraid anymore!
@@Castaways_TravelI have a 5.5 hour layover at Newark tomorrow. I think this idea will work. Do you think I can get to penn station, walk around some sites, and back to my gate within that time frame?
Just booked the flight today for my trip to NYC in July and getting off at Newark airport and out of all the vids I’ve saw on how to get to Penn Station this is by far the best.
Thanks! We actually just booked a short NYC trip as well. Great prices right now, we couldn’t resist. But we’re flying in to Newark again too. Should be a super easy commute to Manhattan. Thanks for watching.
They opened a new Terminal A in January 2023. The air train does not currently stop there. You have to take a shuttle bus outside baggage claim to go to terminal B and then switch to the air train there.
Thank you so much for posting this! I'll be travelling to New York by myself and I always get so nervous navigating unfamiliar places. This is so helpful.
I want to say THANK YOU because of this video i traveled last week to NY and I did everything you mentioned in this video. I felt comfortable taking the airtrain to NY. ❤and everything went smoothly.

No problem! We’re glad you found it helpful. We had no idea this video would turn out to be as useful as it has. We’re actually on our way back to NY for our second trip ever next week. Can’t wait! Have fun!! 🥶
Thanks for the instructions, which I printed out. For me, the trip between the NJ airport and the NY train station took about 45 min-hour because I waited for the NJ Transit train for about 25 min. FYI, taking it on a Thursday afternoon, there was standing room only. Overall great experience!
I really want to thank you for the awesome SHORT video. I'm flying to New York for the first time, my family including, so I was quite nervous. Now I hope everything will go smoothly (unless we depart at Newark Penn Station ;))
I saw this video shortly before landing at Newark on Wednesday morning. I thought I was going to have to spend $80 on an Uber but this was last minute lifesaver!
Landing EWR tom @ 23h & the two of us will be having 6 suitcases of which 2 are hand baggage and rest 4 are check-ins. Do you recommend this route mentioned here or just do a taxi to NYC(destination)? Would there be shuttle services at that hour at EWR? Considering the hour, NJ transit and AIR trains would be much less crowded BUT would it be safe!? TiA!
@ it all comes down to what you’re comfortable with. If you’re comfortable lugging 6 suitcases on multiple public trains at that hour and have the time then go for it. It would definitely be easier to pay for a ride share service but will be more expensive. Might be worth it though. Check the prices for a ride stare service when you get there and make your decision then based on the cost difference and what you’re willing to pay. They might surprise you and be cheaper at that hour. As far as safety goes the air train and NJ transit are probably safer than the metro but it’s all relative. Id say 6 bags is a lot. Not impossible but will probably be challenging. Good luck!
Thank you. It looked like the tickets were $30 (back then) to Penn Station. We have 4 people going to mid-east Manhattan so its probably cheaper by Uber or taxi for us.
According to this map the Newark Airport has accessibility to the NJ Transit. content.njtransit.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/maps/NJT%20System%20Map%20April%202023.pdf

OK I just did the air train but I had a issue. If you do a round-trip, make sure you get both tickets and a receipt. I waited and got one ticket, thinking that was round-trip. But no and then when I got into NYC I went to Customer service and they’ll only get you a courtesy pass up until the Airport.

For the NJ transit train, can I buy round trip if I plan on making my way back to the airport the next day? Or does it have to be used on the same day?
Appreciate it! It's helpful. I have a question. Why both NYC and Newark call their own stations xxx penn station? What does penn here stands for? Pennsylvania?
The Penn Station name extends from the fact that the old Pennsylvania Railroad built many of these stations back in the early 20th century. At that time, different railroad companies typically used different stations, especially in major cities or towns, so the station usually took the name of the company. If various railroads combined to use the same depot, the place often took the name Union Station. (That's why you see so many of those, too.) "They're all named for the Pennsylvania Railroad,"
No idea. We have never taken the Amtrak. Google says: Amtrak has bigger, nicer trains made for long distance travel. NJ Transit is a commuter rail and the trains are old and rough. NJ Transit is a commuter line with many local stops. Amtrak is an intercity line with very few stops. If you’re concerned with speed, go Amtrak. If you’re concerned with price, go NJ Transit.
@@Castaways_Travel I just made the trip on Amtrak. It goes goes to Moynihan Hall at Penn Station. The trains are way nicer, but infrequent. During Christmas I bought my ticket online because they can sell out during the holidays.
We are not aware of any specific train schedules. Try the New Jersey Transit website at www.njtransit.com. It’s a pretty user friendly website and easy to navigate.

So from Newark Airport we just need to buy only 1 ticket to get to NY Penn Station? No other purchases? Are the fare prices still the same as of today (7/19/23)?
If you are traveling by train then yes you would only need to purchase one ticket to get to NY Penn Station from Newark Airport as the air train is free. I have no idea what current prices are though. You might want to check the NJ Transit webpage for route schedules or download the NJ Transit Mobile App for specific ticket prices.
