  • This is a "How to" QUICK GUIDE on getting from the Newark NJ Airport to Manhattan NYC, Penn Station by Train. When researching how to make the trek myself I came across way too many videos on RUclips that were 10, 15, 20 minutes long and who has time to watch all that? So I decided to make a better one for those looking for good information, QUICKLY!
    EWR to Manhattan
    1. Go to Baggage Claim (if necessary)
    2. Go upstairs to Departures Level to find Newark Airtrain Entrance
    3. Use NJ Transit Kiosk to purchase NJ Transit tickets to NY Penn Station
    4. Go upstairs to board Airtrain
    5. Exit Airtrain at the NJ Transit, Newark Airport Liberty Station
    6. Follow Signs for Track A to NYC
    7. Exit after 3 stops at NY Penn Station
    1. If you have baggage to claim the first place you 'll want to head to after exiting your aircraft are the baggage claim carousels downstairs. Follow all yellow baggage claim signs.
    2. Next, you're going to head back upstairs on the Departures level to find the Newark Airtrain entrance. Follow all Airtrain signs.
    3. Next to the escalators to the Newark Airtrain are ticket kiosks for the NJ Transit Train. You'll need a ticket to get to the NJ Transit platform. Click Language, NY Penn Station, One way or Round Trip, Number of Tickets, and method of payment. $15.25 Adult one-way, $3.50 Child one-way, $11.25 Senior Citizen one-way as of January 2022.
    4. Next, you'll take the escalator up to the Airtrain. The Airtrain is free to ride.
    5. Exit the Airtrain at the NJ Transit, Newark airport Liberty Station. If you did not purchase a ticket at the airport, you can still buy one at the machines outside the NJ Transit entrances to the platforms. It is recommended to purchase your tickets at the airport, if possible, in order to avoid crowds trying to purchase tickets outside the NJ Transit entrances.
    6. Follow all signs for Track A to NYC. Track A always goes to NY.
    7. Make sure you exit after 3 stops at NY Penn Station and not at Newark Penn Station, which sounds extremely similar. The stops will be Newark Penn Station, Secaucus, and NY Penn Station. It should take about 20-30 minutes. Hold onto your tickets, as a Conductor will be by to pick them up.

    They opened a new Terminal A in January 2023. The air train does not currently stop there. You have to take a shuttle bus outside baggage claim to go to terminal B and then switch to the air train there.

      Landing EWR tom @ 23h & the two of us will be having 6 suitcases of which 2 are hand baggage and rest 4 are check-ins. Do you recommend this route mentioned here or just do a taxi to NYC(destination)? Would there be shuttle services at that hour at EWR? Considering the hour, NJ transit and AIR trains would be much less crowded BUT would it be safe!? TiA!

    • @Castaways_Travel
      @Castaways_Travel  6 дней назад +1

      @ it all comes down to what you’re comfortable with. If you’re comfortable lugging 6 suitcases on multiple public trains at that hour and have the time then go for it. It would definitely be easier to pay for a ride share service but will be more expensive. Might be worth it though. Check the prices for a ride stare service when you get there and make your decision then based on the cost difference and what you’re willing to pay. They might surprise you and be cheaper at that hour. As far as safety goes the air train and NJ transit are probably safer than the metro but it’s all relative. Id say 6 bags is a lot. Not impossible but will probably be challenging. Good luck!

    • @Castaways_Travel
      @Castaways_Travel  7 месяцев назад +1

      The Penn Station name extends from the fact that the old Pennsylvania Railroad built many of these stations back in the early 20th century. At that time, different railroad companies typically used different stations, especially in major cities or towns, so the station usually took the name of the company. If various railroads combined to use the same depot, the place often took the name Union Station. (That's why you see so many of those, too.)

      The route in the video takes you to NY Penn Station. You can take another route from there to go directly to Times Square or a short 10 min walk will get you there too.

      The train ride is approximately 20-30 minutes long and google maps says Penn Station is a short 12 minute walk away from Times Square. Thanks for watching!

    Wow! No more awful bus ride to the New York Port Authority bus terminal. You left out the most important parts though, the times and the price, and how long is the ride, total from the airport to Penn Station NY?
    Does the train from Newark train station to NYC stop running after midnight? Don’t want to get stranded overnight in Newark, murder capitol of the US!

      Most of that information is in the description. Prices have changed slightly since this video was posted. We do not know the NJ train schedule. Try checking the NJ Transit webpage for those specifics.

      This video was filmed in January 2021 when masks were still mandatory for traveling. There was no way around that. It was either wear the masks in public places or don’t travel and as you can see we weren’t willing to stop traveling. We didn’t ask nor care if you find it offensive.
