It’s worth mentioning that the lead animator on the series, Kevin Temmer, is an industry professional who worked for Blue Sky Studios before it shut down, who worked on big Hollywood animated films like Ice Age. So there’s serious talent on display in all aspects of this show.
Well he managed to escape the curse that is the ice age franchise good for him.

Kevin absolutely is the MVP of the Glitch team.
Ive been following him for years and when he announced he was joining them I was both happy and scared they wouldnt use him to his full potential.
Also worth noting how monumental it is that a transwoman made a show that got 5 mil in a day.

I think it would be interesting if the ring master is not actually their captor, but rather just trying to make their time trapped inside the computer as fun as possible. Maybe he doesn’t even know a way out, so he just wants to entertain them to keep them from going insane as they’re trapped inside a computer with no way out for all of eternity
He's aware they want an exit, but he doesn't know how to actually make one, Caine is not fully in control there.
Caine is just the program runner. He has very little understanding of humans, and doesn’t understand why they’d want to leave the place - possibly not even understanding there’s any “leaving” that could be done. He created the exit door because he thought all these people just really liked exits, and that’s why they were all looking for them. That’s my take, at least.
A detail that alters my perception of him is funnily enough his Wacky Watch. All the faux-infomercial branding that pops up under him gives the sense that he's producing all this for an audience (us being a meta-audience) the same way that Danganronpa and Monokuma does. Though he seems to have less direct malevolence and contempt for his charges than the hateful bear mascot.

I feel like the jokes and visual gags in particular were really well done! I loved when Kinger went to rescue zooble in that one scene, but he failed since his hands aren't attached
it was interesting because it shows Gloinks work like Katamari, where anything that touches them as well as the things that are already stuck to them are "sticky"

I think the biggest theme in the pilot is inevitability. The fact that Pomni is constantly trying to escape with no help from the others bwcause they know there isnt a way out and by the end of the episode she realises this too, accepting her fate.
You're being tricked into thinking she's going to prove the others wrong and save everyone because she's the main character, only to be surprised to see they were right all along and she's inexperienced in this world.

I've played Soma, I've seen the Star Trek parody episode of Black Mirror. What if they exist in a digital world with digital bodies because they ARE digital? Nothing but data of brainscans of the real people, fed into the Digital Circus program, and there is no "real" life they could hope to return to, no memories they could regain. That would explain why nobody on the outside world seems to have enough issue with the whole project to stop it. They are just "data", not real, and don't have any rights and can't hope to ever be granted with them. So they have to take over the program, find outside support and idk, build a better life for themselves or something, getting over the fact that this is all they are. Could be cool to explore those ideas.
@groerhahn225 That was my theory; that everyone in the circus is just a digital copy of their former selves. They might still have certain memories, but they're not really the 'original'. My guess is this might be something that Pomni sees/learns and realizes that they'll never get out, because they can't. Love that Black Mirror episode and god Soma is one of my favorite existential games ever.

Alex Rochon deserves the recognition he’s getting. In the past he’s been known for his Spamton voice dubs, now he’s using nearly the same voice and making it work as Caine and it’s amazing. He deserves all the love he’s getting for this show.

The thing about Caine is that I don't think he's malicious, or at least not purposefully so. He's taking care of the people who get trapped in the digital circus to the best of his ability, but he seems genuine on not knowing how to escape (going so far as trying to make a fake exit because thats what he thought everyone wanted).
I heard that Caine is an AI part of the game, so i'm not impressed how he acts at everything like it's normal.
Its also been confirmed that Caine isnt evil, he tries to make sure they dont go insane and takes care of them best he can, but doesnt fully understand how humans work
Honestly yeah a lot of it’s giving me Inscryption vibes. That ADC was some sort of old computer activity game like they made for kids in the 90’s and early 2000’s that got way too innovative for its own good, managed to implement an AI (Caine) Game Master to create new content for it. But also disastrously implemented untested full dive VR, which caused users’ minds to become trapped in the game and so was abandoned. How exactly the various characters ended up in the game from that state is still up for debate though. I would bet on at least one of them being one of the original devs, probably Kinger, being the oldest and craziest, but how people kept on getting trapped there afterwards raises some questions.

Tbh i think caine is trying his best to work as an ai operating in the 90’s kids edutainment genre: being engaging and helpful but not understanding what the players really need. Like i don’t think he’s evil but i think he’s trying his best to be engaging within the genre of the game
I initially passed Digital Circus, but someone convinced me to give it a look.
I’m amazed at how much I was sucked in! The writing, animation, and the mystery!
Surprised not many people are bringing up how the art design is extremely smart in how it remediates early digital art / computer graphics. What a way to convey value and context visually. Super compelling.
I love this show, it's certainly a marvel of indy animation. Caine and Jax are my favorites so far. It's interesting to see a cgi show where glitches and no clips are intentional. I really hope Pomni can keep her sanity.

The problem with the big animation studios is that they rely on a network, and said networks have been depending a lot on playing it safe and pandering to a specific audience a lot.
With a webseries you don't have those restrictions and can do whatever you want essentially and don't have to worry about it getting cancelled, that's why some webshows like Eddsworld are still going strong even today and i feel like with studios you can't always have that feeling, y'know?
@@DanTheLoler_17 yep. I follow so many people in the animation industry who have revealed the shows and ideas they've pitched to the networks only to have them turned down for the dumbest reasons just to play it safe.
"Action packed show? Great. Aimed at females of a certain age? What are you, crazy? That'll never fly. Our target are young boys! Huh our show for young boys aren't doing well with them but the girls are loving it, too bad they won't buy the merch cancel it."
Sad part is that last bit makes sense. It's not that they won't buy the toys but often parents won't buy it for them. It's one reason nerf made the rebelle line.
The animation style reminds me of those old pc games you'd play in school back in the mid to late 2000s.

Based off the fact that this show could literally go anywhere, I think that’s either going to turn to the really comedy side or somehow it’s going to just get really really really really really dark both I would enjoy Also, the animation it’s just so perfect. I love all the characters.

Always feels crazy to remember that Meta Runners, Murder Drones, and now this show were able to be made all because an awkward kid wanted to try out glitches in SM64 and filmed it on a potato brick of a phone

Making the AI silly instead of malevolent is a stroke of genius. It adds a fantastic layer of existential terror, because it gives you no clear antagonist to focus on. No obvious exit or escape.
And no clear motives. It makes everything unpredictable, and that sense of uncertainty is going to really make that one stand out from the crowd!
What makes it better is that it is clear of what he does and does not know. Combined that he has "unfinished work" meaning he is always doing stuff.
I'm not fully convinced it's silly *instead of* malevolent. I suspect there's depths for those to hang out together that would be a sight to see.
Not really. It's just a simple change. Not a stroke of genius. I think we accept anything as new & exciting now because most things are just boring so it's so easy to please anyone.
@@SakuraIdleOn | I think you've allowed personal experience to taint your perspective. There is more media of ALL qualities being released today than ever before in history. If anything the competition is far stiffer than before, because we all have so much more control over the media we consume.
Back in the day, you watched whatever was on TV, listened to whatever was on the radio, or read whatever was available at the local library/bookstore. Now, we can watch whatever the hell we want whenever the hell we want. Media CAN'T be boring, because if it is, you immediately drop it and go watch something else.
Something that I had realized when rewatching the pilot over and over again is that when jax, pomni and ragatha are walking through the hall to find kaufmo to introduce pomni to him, there are doors that probably lead to more rooms with crossed out images of characters that aren't seen as the main cast on the front of the doors. There was even a female looking kingler (probably named queenler or something) that's crossed out. I think that all of these crossed out characters are people who have been "abstracted" like kaufmo. Even in the pit that kaufmo was sent to had more characters. Later episodes if we revisit the hallway with everyone's room I won't be surprised if we see kaufmo's door and he's crossed out on the front. Can't wait for more episodes!
I like how this show looks like it was something made in like the mid-2000s. Like I could have seen this on TV while I was in late middle school or early high school.
The scene where Caine opens and closes the cellar full of obstructed people is easily the creepiest part for me.
So many have been trapped in this place, lost their minds, became monsters, and then got locked away in a basement never to be seen again.
Like…..what’s going on?!?!

This shows that multiple other people have previously been on here before.
You can actually see what some of those characters used to look like. When Ragatha, Pomni, and Jax are walking down the hall with everyone's rooms, you can see some portraits are crossed out. For example: there used to be a queen character, like Kinger; you can see her door in the background before Kinger's.
I especially like how they animate the blush makeup on Pomni's cheeks to be almost like eyebags when she's clearly stressed. That dual-purpose design detail really makes her stand out to me

The existential dread I felt watching the pilot was real honestly. Definitely will be following the project but oh god, that clip of Pomni at the end is the biggest mood possible. Definitely a gem of a show

Pomni's eyes remind me of the bird eye view of the circus she's trapped in- and i think it would've been cool if while in the shot at the end when theyre zooming in on her face and her pupils stay the same size, if they also rotated- kinda like ina creepy-circus kinda way. Any way, love it

Big fan of how they handled the budget limitations for this. Incredibly minimalist sets, simple designs, and a BOATLOAD of attention placed on the character animations. Some of these animations are higher quality than stuff you see out of much larger budgets.
It tracks for Kevin Temmer’s style, but it’s still nice to see a focus put onto really nailing a single thing.
Always a smart move for CG on limited budgets to go for stuff that’s supposed to look artificial. It’s the trick that Pixar did in the early days with Toy Story and the like.

It really is insane how high quality these pilots are. Back in my day a Pilot episode was an animatic (no color, not fully animated) basically just a step above a story board set to an episode length to give the idea of what a show might be like. Nowadays these pilots be putting most fully budgeted shows to shame with both production and story. Indie animation is rocking it and I'm so excited for all the creators. ❤

Maybe in the indie space, but even back in the 80s and 90s, pilots were fully fleshed out episodes. Maybe slightly lower budget sometimes, but this has been funded by the Australian government, it's not really indie at this point, Glitch is a proper production company. The only difference is its on youtube instead of television.

The animation is a real mish mash of throwback 3D with dark undertones from the late 80s and 90s for some characters, with the bright clean modern aesthetic for others. Really brings together a lot of different generations of animation enjoyers who enjoy different aesthetics, which is kind of genius. Most modern stuff has a limited younger audience.
The sad thing is, near the end, when Pomni is in the void, if the ringmaster didn’t get the notification, she would’ve escaped…I think. And then when she just stares at the camera as the music plays, then she smiles?? Holy crap, that moment gave me chills
Just looking at Gooseworx’s stuff, you can definitely see how they directed it. The “pinwheels” in Pomni are a thing Goose likes to do, she makes a lot of her characters have very stylized eyes.
On the topic of gooses past, I enjoy the joke between Kinger and Zooble when Kinger says: “you didn’t experience a gameshow in there did you?”, a throwback to gooses most popular animations, “Little Runmo”

Also Elain the Bounty Hunter, which is the animation I discovered their work by... or maybe I did see Little Runmo first I'm not sure but one video led me to the rest. I was kind of hoping for another Elaine video but I guess that series is over, this one looks pretty interesting though.

I dunno why, but Caine’s delivery of “Why are you like this?” Absolutely killed me.
The english VA did one of the best Spamton dubs you can find, and thats one of the reasons they chose him.

I think it's the fact that he's pretty much always loud and over-the-top, except for that moment when he's just so genuinely and utterly disappointed in Bubble that he can't even try to act chipper about it.
That and Alex Rochon is a really good voice actor lol, this is the only role I know him in but he absolutely killed it
I like your fan theory, and I'd like to expand upon it a bit with my own.
When Pomni is going through the exit doors, we see a number of computer terminals that are on, but unattended. As she leaves this room to enter the last hallway before The Void, we see the logo C&A, which I think stands for Cain(e) and Able. Coupled with the story behind that, I think Caine might be one of two brothers in charge of the C&A company who either killed, or got his younger brother killed as part of an experiment into the Digital Circus.

I loved it from the moment the ringmaster gave pomni the tour. That neopets style website navigation where you're either inside a specific building or a mile up in the atmosphere is so nostalgic.
This is probably the first time I watched a web show BEFORE Saberspark got a chance to introduce it to us. So glad SMG4 has evolved his love for comedic animation into what we got now.
I like how the main character has the colorful design with the pinwheel eyes, but also her eyelids are black so there's this subtle feeling of exhaustion and madness to her. A lot of designs try too hard to twist something innocent into something dark, I feel like that just little bit of darkness is enough to convey something is very wrong with her.

The pilot was translated in Audio for other countries, so not only did they perfectly voice acted the cartoon they also made other voice actings for russian and other lanuages, when i was comparing the voice acting of russian and english, they were almost consistently good, soo they made even more effort to actually translate the video and went ahead by putting effort in those
The german is worse than the original.
This was the my first contact with this feature on RUclips. A nice surprise. I ended up switching to English but until I noticed the language difference I could tell the Portuguese dub was definitely not bad

Spanish dub is pretty solid, I was kinda scared of it being in spaniard accent but it's perfectly neutral

If I had a nickel for every time someone I got to know through some old ass RUclips top 10 countdowns suddenly voicing a character in a Glitch Productions... production, I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice, right?
(in case your wondering, the other one is Robyn Barry-Cotter. It's so weird to think how far semi-small RUclipsrs of around ten years ago have come, SMG4 is a good example lol)
It's impressive how they animated cain with his mouth and eye expressions so well combined together.
I love how often the top teeth function as eye brows. You wouldn't think a design like this could be that expressive, then you realise the eyes and mouth are the only expressive parts of the human face and it makes sense.
It really is becoming super exciting now with all these indie shows knocking it out of the park. I'm rooting for these guys blazing a trail for creators!

Difference is they have months of time to pump stuff out while the big animations often got weekly deadlines, or at least a couple months to get an entire season finished.

Also, I'm 99% sure Zooble was based off of Zolo Blocks, a building toy comprised of different odd shapes meant to be made into creatures. I played with them a LOT as a kid, I'd know them anywhere!

I was really excited to find out that she was one of ENA’s voices. If anyone here hasn’t checked out the ENA series by Joel G (and co), I highly recommend giving it a watch. Super trippy.

Yeah the craziest thing is that Glitch post everything on youtube. They even built their whole animation team from scratch. They went from m64 funny videos to building a production studio or whatever it's called, giving a platform to creators with stories waiting to be told. And the quality is phenomenal. This is insane. I am glad to be alive right now.

And also one more thing is that even writers of hellva boss canonized fan theroy which is really dumb and proves my point that they just don't know what there doing with the show and shows that they have no vision and should just not happend and would rather hazbin happend frist instead

I didn't really know anything about this show until Lizzie made a comment about it. I've known her for a while, and I'm so happy to see the awesome job she did on this project! Such a fun watch, and everyone involved deserves so much credit!
_Digital Circus_ is like the _Matrix_ but the series captures the technological surrealism of webcore aesthetic. This is Gooseworx's best work yet next to _Little Runmo_ and _The Pink City_ series.

This is genuinely an amazing show! I'm so excited to see more! I love how in the end of the episode, Pomni is actually going crazy. It kinda feels refreshing to see a character be thrown into a world and not immediately be ok with that or be completely fine.
The sheer quality of the animation is stellar. You can really see how the team's technical abilities have improved from the first episode of Murder Drones to this
I know right?! i mean, it sort of makes sense in a way. the murder drones pilot is still very well animated, but GOD. episode 6 and TADC's pilot as SO well animated. can't even express how much I love Glitch_Productions.
The lead animator for Digital Circus, Kevin Temmer, is amazing. He's the lead for Murder Drones too. He also has his own channel called Kevin Temmer Tunes where he posts videos of shots he personally made for both shows, as well as a bunch of fun little music videos he makes by himself.

This show is right up my alley. I love goofy shows that have a lot of lore underneath them. Especially the ones that have more to them then they show. Can’t wait to see where this goes
Glitch Productions has come so far. From silly videos of Mario and their own self-inserts to being one of the leading companies when it comes to independent animation, they really deserve their flowers. Looking very very forward to Digital Circus and can’t wait to see where it goes next!

I assure you there WILL be a full series in the future. The pilot received Universal acclaim so maybe there's a high chance that a full show might come into fruition.

Unsettling is a bit of an overstatement
I have to say, as someone who finds liminal spaces captivating, I think this show has a huge potential of becoming something big. It could explore existential dread in a virtual space, I'm all here for it.
Seeing so many indie teams out there putting their passion projects out there makes me want to actually work on my own more than ever. I might actually get around to story boarding things

i literally only clicked on the amazing digital circus video because my friend sent memes in the discord of it and i was like 'oh those are the characters from the memes' and im glad i did lol. such a stellar pilot!! im so glad indie animation is as alive as ever and, if it wasnt already top notch, its improving even more! like, professional-level stuff for free on youtube! what!
Despite Gooseworx's stories usually going towards existentially traumatic experiences/states, I can't help but hope for some sort of cure or way to revert people who've been abstracted, back to their normal abstracted states. Like, the sadness I felt when I saw Kaufmo abstract despite not even having met him in show/without an intro, I got excited for more characters. I honestly can't wait for a full season of this!
this show could easily become misery porn , but i hope it ends up relatively happy , keep the dark humor for sure but always make sure theres light. they don't even need to escape to the real world Cain could finish building the place and they end up entertaining real humans and finding a purpose to their digital existence
//I'm thinking of Math Rabbit... Purble Place isnt a rare edutanement software, it was on almost every windows computer just like that old pinball game.
It definitely feels like the story is going to be developers stuck in a VR version of those old educational click games we all played in computer class in elementary school. I'm here for it. I recently have tried to hunt down the ones I played as a kid to try and see how they stand up now and if I remember right one was circus themed.

It’s only been a week and I already have a full on OBSESSION with tadc
itss so impressive to see the new age of animated series, and its especially amazing to see how well received digital circus is. Ive got to take notes if i want to be like all of these youtube animators one day tbh.
3:45 only argument I have is that the entire episode is built around how the ai is actually trying to help and protect the humans not torturing them. What he is trying to do is keep them from going insane and refracting like the clown boi did. He’s trying to help them not torture them. There is no way for those trapped to escape and he doesn’t know that but he still is trying to help. All they know is they are stuck there with no way out and he is trying to keep them sane.
I love it already! I can never get enough of brightly colored shows about existential crisis.

@@SomeCatFromFrance Caine's actually incredibly friendly and affable. He sets the characters up with his "adventures" to keep them occupied. So far he's not a villain, but could absolutely become one with little effort

He gives off good and friendly vibes and he’s kinda just like an AI program that simply doesn’t understand humans since he doesn’t know why these characters are craving for an “exit” whenever one pops up in the digital world. In the pilot, he wasn’t set up to be bad, and I don’t think he will be, but if they *are* gonna make him the big secret hidden villain I’d be real sad tbh 😔 I’d much rather have him as someone who tries his best the help these people, even with his limited capabilities as an AI within the digital space.

Im surprised you didn't mention lead animator kevin temmer. Not only has he made many popular musical songs and animations on RUclips like what's the matter martha and delete this tweet, he worked with blue sky studios before it shut down. Im glad they're getting so many professional artists involved, as well as creating a name for new ones. This project has so much potential and Im so excited to see what comes next.

I love how unforgivable of a jerk Jax is. He is so funny. The whole cast of characters is absolutely wonderful as well as the story they are trying to set up. The animation and voices were absolutely wonderful as well as the animation as a whole. I really hope we can see it get continued.

I’m glad you brought up I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, because it was the first thing I thought of, as a fan of the short story, and nobody in the comments seemed to make that very obvious connection to this show’s inspiration, or at least from what I saw.
Those who watched "object shows" such as BFDI can relate to Digital Circus.
It has the same concept.
- The goofy party host
- Host gives the team different tasks or adventure scenarios
-At the end of the episode they have a meal
-More characters get added over time and some characters drop out. (Remember doors with manequin marks in that hall).
-The lore gets deeper with each new episode.
This concept however, has great potential and can possibly surpass object shows. I'll be looking forward to what Gooseworx and Glitch Team will do next.

it's more like hfjone than anything
Hfjone has contestants show in batches over a short amount of time, while this show has characters that have been there for years, some even appeared there before the host even showed up. Also this show has surreal elements iconic to Gooseworx, so object show fans might feel unsettling watching this

@@SandwitchZebra Well said Fr. I discovered her through her undertale remixes, and got super invested in her work when little runmo came out.
After watching a bunch of her stuff you can really see the key elements to her style in it and I like that it wasnt diluted due to her not being the animator, her directing work must be top notch to translate her humour/horror with other animators!

I’m sure this has probably been said MANY times, but I feel like Caine is just an AI that doesn’t quite understand why the “devs” (since we don’t yet know who they really are) want to leave, so he tries to keep them busy until he can replicate what an exit might be to them since there truly isn’t one yet. More of a kind soul trying to help out the main characters in any way they can.
But yeah, I too and kinda interested to see where they take everything, as there are still background character doors that haven’t been explored, side characters that haven’t really had screen time (zooble, gangle, kinger), and even characters such as Kaufmo and their unresolved fate (I say unresolved because the cellar doesn’t feel like the end of the characters, more like a hell they have to endure before they get fixed).
