She was the Queen of Disco and we danced all night
Yes we did
Donna's version of Macarthur Park is epic 🎶
Some of us roller skated, back when you did that indoors.
She was Queen in New York's Discotheque for sure!
I still play my girl Donna Summer Live and More album when I need a pick me up. Works everytime. RIP sweet lady
This is pretty much the song that launched electronic dance music around the world. One of the most influential songs ever.
Sound like Daft Punk
@@ckobo84 Yep. It was the very first techno dance song ever released (1976) Daft Punk were heavily influenced by Giorgio Moroder and Donna Summer.
@@ckobo84 I agree - actually Daft Punk sounds like her.
@@MrDonanthony Duh! ruclips.net/video/zhl-Cs1-sG4/видео.html
I couldn't agree more. To all DJs out there - this song will A:WAYS put feet on the floor!
Widely considered to be one of the most important and influential records of all time. This was basically the birth of Electronic Dance Music. House Music, Techno, Rave, Italo, Hi-NRG, Synthpop, and EDM owe everything to this collision of worlds.
Absolutely!
Said this for many years, she really was a groundbreaker.
Everyone was talking about this song in school when it was released in 1977.
The thing is it doesn't sound like a pioneering record, it sounds like the crowning achievement of a genre that had been growing and evolving for decades!
If you didn't know your music history when would you place this? Mid 90s?
The track is practically Trance, 20 years before it was even "invented".
It's a nearly FIFTY year old track, and it's not aged a day. Incredible.
200%
Yes, the Queen of disco, Donna Summer was hot!
She was hot! 🔥
Totally hot🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was 17 and dancing in the discos of NYC to this! Crazy amazing time! Every Friday my girlfriends and I bought new outfits to go dancing in. Then Saturday night was for our boyfriends. Lol 😉
The people who heard this the first time got to hear the future.
Man I miss those days. The true Queen Of Disco. Try the incredible "Last Dance", "Bad Girls", "Love To Love You Baby", "Hot Stuff", "Try Me", "Dim All The Lights", "On The Radio", her cover of "MacArthur Park", and her duet with Barbara Streisand, "No More Tears". RIP Donna, we'll never forget.
❤👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Loves Unkind!!
An era where singers let their talent shine and speak for them. They didn’t need the Internet to promote them, make them popular. Their talent did that for them.Donna was breaking records and crossing boundaries, she wasn’t looking for any adulation. That is why. Donna so special.
"Bad Girls" "She Works Hard for the Money" "State of Independence"
"Hot Stuff", "Last Dance", "No More Tears" (with Barbra Streisand) - - The Queen of Disco!
Excellent recommendations!
Except with State Of Independence, you should listen to the original Jon & Vangelis version first.
@@Wesker1984
Absolutely right. Vangelis/Jon Andersons original is so much better. This song was made for Jon Andersons voice.
Beep Beep
That's my Dearest Donna..she was so gracious and had class. And a tremendous voice
She was all class.
A euphoric masterpiece that was years ahead of its time. Donna's voice + Giorgio Moroder's production is a match made in heaven. See also MacArthur Park.
OMG I can't believe you finally got to my girl! The amazing Ms Donna Summer. This song is actually in the library of Congress as one of the most influential songs of the 20th century. Great choice Jayvee! ❤️👍
One of the most innovative songs of all time. This song inspired many of the greatest.
She's a music goddess!! 🥳
This was the first song I heard from her when it was brand new. I was hooked on disco and Donna!
Dim All the Lights, On the Radio, Sunset People, Hot Stuff, Bad Girls, Last Dance, MacArthur Park, and every other song she did.
Oh yeah. Dim all the lights. Excellent song.
The Queen of Disco!
Yes indeed!
YAAASSSS!!! Welcome to the rabbit hole!!❤ Before Madonna Beyonce Mariah Or Celine. This woman broke many many glass ceilings. Class Elegant Beautiful and a Powerful Singer!! Sold over a 100 million albums. Hope You Enjoy!
A lot of the disco era records had BPM on them which stood for beats per minuet. Donna Summer will always be the queen of disco
HUGE DONNA SUMMER FAN!!!!!
One of the 1st uses of a synthesizer - that's what you're hearing.
This was year 1977. In popular music, maybe.
There was great synth use, by the likes of Wendy Carlos, Ron Grainer and Delia Derbyshire, Suzanne Ciani, Isao Tomita, Jean Jacques Perrey, Kraftwerk, Silver Apples, Herbie Hancock, Jean-Michel Jarre, Klaus Schulze, and some '60's rockers, from The Who, Pink Floyd, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Yes.
Giorgio Moroder did break some ground, for sure.
He won the Academy Award for "Chase", from Midnight Express, and he has many other hits.
She later said she was ashamed of the seductive dancing as her parents were deeply religious.Personally I love it.
Must not be a lot of religious parents these days the way the girls show their ace on instaface.
The song you’re referring to is Love to Love You......she did about 15 seconds of it when I saw her in concert. She didn’t sing the entire song in concert.
Yeah it's off the scale brilliant
I find the dancing in this video ethereal - not seductive. But to each his own I guess.
pflynn581 Blame Giorgio Moroder
Giorgio Moroder - the man sure knew himself some electronics! Bow down before the master all you techno types! Throw in Ralf Hutter and Florian Schneider from Kraftwerk and you have the 3 Kings!
Love that electronica sound
"Throw in" Kraftwerk? The devil you say?! I know you are not mentioning them as an afterthought! No one can over estimate the influence and inprotance of Kraftwerk in music history. Oh yeah, throw in Giorgio in that mix too. (See how that looks!)
There are so many early pioneers of Electronic music besides Giorgio Moroder and Kraftwerk. To name a few: Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream
Somenthing really cool with Donna : Many rockers did hate disco .. with an exception Donna Summer ...she was phenomenal amazing ,powerful l voice.
Yep. I was a teen when this came out and if you had a girlfriend you had to listen and dance to this. 😎 I liked it and I was/am a rock guy all the way.
I LOVE disco and Rock! If you went to discotheques in the 70s they played both (I spent many hours of my youth dancing). Many artists made a crossover to please people like me. Even the Grateful Dead.
A rock cover of I Feel Love will underline this point nicely: ruclips.net/video/_86Fu42yfDo/видео.html
i was one of those rockers who was not a fan of Disco....LOVED Donna...RIP Angel
Love her she beautiful lady and beautiful voice thank you for reacting to her
The Queen of Disco - try “Last Dance”. By the way, you won’t be complaining about the songs being too short - many versions are 12-15 minutes long to play in the dance clubs. This song doesn’t show her vocal range like some of the others. A REAL vocal powerhouse is her duet with Barbra Streisand called No More Tears (Enough is Enough)
The extended version! ruclips.net/video/QsY066wa08E/видео.html
I'm old enough to have danced to these as she was cranking out these gems. One of a kind. She wore us out with her 20 minute masterpieces.
@@TheHoffy59 Me too. Couldn't dance then, still can't now, so I just listen and enjoy!
I agree with the other folks on her. Last dance is amazing.
A REAL vocal powerhouse is her duet with Barbra Streisand called No More Tears (Enough is Enough)
This a MUST listen to song.
I love Donna Summer. So many good songs! Try Love to Love You Baby, On the Radio and Dim All the Lights
If you really want to see her singing abilities and her showmanship, check out live performances of her cover of "MacArthur Park.""
I dong care for this song to showcase her vocal talent....not a good first song...try anything else
YESSSSSSS 👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼 to MacArthur Park!
@@llmitchellb And then he should watch Weird Al's parody of it called Jurassic Park
She actually made that stupid song listenable.
She recorded MacArthur Park in one take, that should show how talented she is. She was known as ‘One take Donna’ back in the day.
She was so elegant and theatrical. Love Donna Summer! Was a kid when this was super popular
Also I suggest MacArthur's Park. And her Don't cry for me Argentina..Magic
I strongly agree with this comment !
MacArthur Park for sure!
oh but the original MacArthur's Park by Richard Harris was so over the top dramatic its also worth a listen haha. Donna is great though for sure!
Donna's version of MacArthur Park is an abomination-and ruins a beautiful haunting song -Disco indeed ! - Jimmy Webb could NOT have been impressed.
Actually Jimmy Webb said her version was better and he’s correct
I was in college during the Donna days and I was the disco queen, hogging up the dance floor like a maniac! I love those days, wild and free!
me, too. Crazy good times. She sure wore us out, right? Last dance at the end of the night when we needed just one more song to sober up to.
Makes my pants want to get up and dance.
Awesome Dr. Hook reference *grin
She was such a beauty, I'm a 70's kid...This was a fun song to dance to back in the day.
I remember the first time I heard this. It was spectacularly unlike anything else on the radio (listening to programmed Top 40 at the time). I called up the radio and had to ask WTH that was. Thus, my introduction to Donna Summer. Then I went to work and could not get this off of my mind for days.
Any Donna song-she was a great singer.
She ruled disco. Bad girls was one of her greatest songs.
This lady was more than the queen of disco she was a bonafide singer with tremendous range check out her duet called “no more tears with another diva Barbra Streisand you won’t be disappointed... they both knocked it out of the park... be safe and be well
Try "Last Dance" by Donna Summer. It was always the last song played by the owner/DJ of a club I used to work at - it's a great song!
Love "Last Dance" - he definitely needs to check it out!
Just the other day i saw Thank God It's Friday for the first time. A pretty horrible movie. Made even more horrible by the horrible mix of such an iconic song. Skip the movie and play the full mix of the hit.
You know why that was don't You? Hookups disco style! That song got me and a lot of others guys and gals laid plenty! So yeah,it was good to be young and alive back then.
The Queen of the disco era, Donna Summer had major hits from the 70's which includes: (1) ON THE RADIO. (2) LAST DANCE. (3) HOT STUFF (4) MACARTHUR'S PARK (5) ENOUGH IS ENOUGH (FEAT.) Barbara Strisand. & the list goes on! Both her & the Bee Gees ran the 70's disco era!
I loved Donna Summer! Went to her concerts. She was amazing
Lol I can't wait to see his reaction on this one.
Sorry wrong comment
I miss this lady.
From what i read she was stuck in new York during 911 and ended up with lung cancer. She is buried in Tennessee.
Listen to love to love you baby.
Was hard to get airplay that's for sure. I was little and i remember that!
What first time ! Omg 1977 know your history black history ......I’m with you but I’m constantly surprised ! ✌️
"McArthur Park" 1979 live to hear what Donna Summer's voice truly was.
RIP, most definitely the "Queen of Disco". Check out "Mimi" a song about one of her daughters.
I love her song Mimi. It can make you cry.
Donna Summer was so beautiful, she was definitely a gift that left us way too soon 😔🙏
These ladies that also sang gospel are the ones who belt out amazing voices. Btw this song doesn't begin to showcase her talent. *MacArthur Park* does fr. (That sound is a synthesizer)
Donna, a truely beautiful person. RIP Donna.❤
possibly the most influential disco/dance record of all time
In my days at school, I loved this. Donna was something else. Sadly as with far too many, she didn't hang around for that long. Crying shame.
Donna is the Queen of disco. No one like her. She made suck great music. Please play more Donna. She left us way too soon. RIP
I was in love with Donna Summer when I was a kid. Her voice was perfect right until the end and yes she is beautiful. She got some class.
Donna has one of the most powerful voices. Can't tell on this song.
OMG, the Queen of Disco. Had every record of hers
Donna Summer the QUEEN❤️
“Love to love you baby.” 💛🤘🏼✌️
She was called the "Queen of Disco" but her voice was so beautiful and powerful enough to deliver on a song like this. This came out in 1977 and electronic and synthesizer music was pretty new. We unfortunately lost her too soon.
Donna Summer and Georgio Moroder - great coloaboration! He is playing the electronic dance music.
late 70's and it was ahead of it's time. I was a kid when it came out and it was form outer space. Love it
Everybody got out on the dance floor for this one! Disco mania ❤️
Donna had a lovely voice. She sang Oh Holy Night on some Christmas special back in the day that gave me goose bumps. Yea, listen to more of her. RIP, Donna.
This was my jawn back in the day!! This song was the song we roller skated to. Donna Summer was a big part of my childhood during the 70s & 80s. She could sing too. Great song to review and nice job!
Wow, Donna was a stunner.
When I saw the title, I knew you were in for it.
In later years she became very religious. She, a guitarist and a drummer started playing at Church on the Hill. It’s a small church that we use to go to. When they first played my mom and I were asking each other “is that Donna Summer?!” We got to know her and the band. They were super nice and, she never had any attitude about being Donna Summer.
Thank you I love some Donna Summer. You should also look at she works hard for the money. Love your reactions.❤️😃👍🌼✌️Love and peace
I loved listening to Donna. We were too young for the clubs so we hustled (dance) in the park and at school dances. Her music was just the best to dance to! Bought her first album and played it over and over. Beautiful lady, beautiful voice. 💜
One of the best tracks ever!! Donna Summer = Legend ❤️😍
She was very popular in the disco era!! Sam Smith also does a great job on this song! Stay safe!
Disco 💃 Queen. So many good songs. Love to love you baby, Hot Stuff, Dim all Lights, Bad Girls 💙💙💙
give on the radio a listen from her
Last Dance, MacArthur Park , No More Tears-Enough is Enough (with Babs)
You need to "MacArthur's Park". My favorite song by her. And there is a very long version that combines 3 songs into one. Really good stuff. Donna has always been one of my favorites.
A MAN LIKE YOU Is my favorite DONNA SUMMER song.....
Such a beautiful, gracious and talented lady.....Incredible!
Disco Queen to the max!! She had so many amazing songs!! MacArthur Park, Last Dance, Hot Stuff, Bad Girls . I think that is a combo of couple of keyboards you are hearing... DISCO had some amazing sounds like that lol
"I just got a piece, but I wanted the whole pie". Yeah. We all felt that way about Donna. May she rest in peace.
I was in love with the Queen of Disco!!!
The UNDISPUTABLE Queen Of Disco - and then some!💖
The hypnotic beat of this track (in combination with Ms Donna Summers enchanting vocals...) was nothing short of an out of body experience on the dance floor - while flashing lights rhythmically punctuated the darkness of the Disco...💃
Ms Donna Summer.
A remarkable person and vocalist whose voice went forever quiet way too soon...💜
This was definitely disco (and one of my favorite songs of all time). We didn't even have the word techno in 1977, at least not the way it came to be used in the nineties. That instrument is a synthesizer, provided by arranger Giorgio Moroder.
It was called techno-pop in the 70s
She was considered THE QUEEN OF DISCO; rightfully so! One of my favorites is, "MacArthur Park". pls check it out.
This song was way ahead of its time. It still sounds innovative and new. To this day when a DJ plays this it puts feet on the floor! (Ha! I typed the first part of this comment when I first started listening. And, yes, you are right - it WAS way ahead of its time!)
Donna was one of the BEST.
Finally! Someone is reacting to Donna Summer - the undisputed Queen Of Disco! Other than the Bee Gees, no other artist sold more Disco records. The music was provided by Georgio Moroder who was at the forefront of synthesized music in the 70's. He also did the motion picture soundtrack for Cat People, featuring David Bowie (Putting Out Fire - With Gasoline). This version is different from the one on the David Bowie album. Georgio also did the soundtrack for the movie Chase and hit the top 40 with the main title theme.
You should really try her first hit called Love To Love You Baby. The album version is almost 17 minutes long! The single edit is the last three minutes of the album version. It went to #2 on the Billboard Singles Chart, & #1 on the Soul & Disco charts. You will love what's in store from Donna Summer.
One of the most sensual songs ever. Takes me back to my high school days when disco music was king. RIP Donna, you are not forgotten!
The thing I like best about this video is seeing co-writer Georgio Maroder play the moog - he was truly ahead of his time. David Bowie even said that this song would "change the face of dance music forever" and it did.
You gotta react to more of her. She was SO popular in the 70s
One of my favorite artists! Many great hits like Love to Love You Baby, MacArthur Park, Last Dance, Hot Stuff and my personal favorite, Bad Girls :)
Love Donna Summer! What a voice! BTW, this song was famously sampled in Madonna's "Future Lovers/I Feel Love" in her Confessions Tour (& album in 2007). Other great hits by DS: "Heaven Knows," "On The Radio," "Enough is Enough," "Last Dance," etc. Fun fact, she loved to paint and was pretty good at it.
More female artist? Sade “Cherish the day” and “Paradise”
The ultimate eargasm.
MacAuthor Park is her all time Awesome song that will blow your mind. She hits all high notes to perfection. Don't pass this one up. What a song for your journey.
One of the most memorable performers of the 70’s. I grew up in 70’s and 80’s and I’m still impressed with this song. They were ahead of their time. Awesome
You picked 3 amazing artists today. So many good songs, so many good memories.
Try Love to love you baby a earlier hit long version !
I can't wait to see his reaction to this one.
I think he might blush a bit at that song. :)
Definitely the Queen of disco, she had so many awesome songs.
It's hypnotic!
This song is Donna's summer masterpiece, first of its kind and ahead of its time Donna summer was the best disco singer the queen.
SHE´S ALWAYS THE QUEEN OF DISCO..!!!!! FOREVER.!!!
She's just a huge icon. There's literally no way you can deny it
She was the queen of disco she died young I believe she was 63.
Donna was our beauty, our queen. Best voice of the times.
Your next Donna Summer song should be "Love to love you baby" her debut single from a couple of years before this one ☺
Stephen Ulmer I hope he doesn’t because in later years, she said she felt bad about that song because it was so sexual.
Queen of the Disco .....You should give She works hard for the money. I spent many hours dancing to her music 😍
On this song, Donna recorded all the voices you hear - The background voices are all hers.
