I was a psychiatric nurse for 20+ years, and I worked at a couple of metropolitan jails as a nurse in booking. I saw 500 times more bad behavior and assaults because of alcohol than I ever did in the psychiatric hospital.
I can believe that. Thank you for lasting 20 years in such stressful job, alcoholics are exhausting.
I am a rideshare operator on Lyft and was for Uber. Marijuana users are not the ones who get crazy or violent. I have had to call the police and kick out passengers who were severely under the influence of alcohol. Alcohol is far more dangerous. It causes extremely unpredictable erratic, disturbing, and violent behavior.
I've had mental illness for decades now. I have NEVER ended up in any kind of trouble because of it and it's been pretty bad at times. Within a year of developing an alcohol addiction I got arrested twice. It's sometimes destructive. I'm trying to kick the habit because it sucks.
Alcohol does things to judgment, makes it sketchy. You had expertise in administering drugs that modify impulsivity and violence. Your colleagues could adjust the dosages until they were as optimal as could be for that person.
Self medication of any sort never ends well. The drugs influence how they are administered and it never is towards clarity and restraint.

Same as prison. Only difference, you don't get to see new people everyday like in a jail.

“Exactly”
Quote of the year lmfao
Jailer: “What’s this key to sir?”
Inmate: “Your mother’s house.”
Best jail intake line ever.
I bet that jailer quit asking people anything about keys.
It’s not funny. At all. Hope the inmate got beaten to within an inch of his life. Better yet, hope you are the inmate.
😆😆
And with a thick NYC accent.
Absolutely destroyed that deputy.
That was a good one. That jailer took it on the chin.
The same officer was told by inmate that his breath didn't smell like alcohol but his wife. The officer told him he could tell her that when she came in on B rotation. 😂

It's a bad sign when they come out acting the same. When I was 18 I got busted and was in booking for 8 hours. Saw some wild stuff that night. Its been 18 years and I'm better behaved now.
Thoroughly convinced some ppl think saying "I know my rights" is a defensive shield of some sort that makes them immune to any accountability.

Idk why but that one did it for me😂
I'm convinced that the best anti-drug or anti-drink PSA you can give to anyone is letting them see the disgraces that get shuffled through ERs and jails. Nothing would've scared me off of substances quite like seeing the people who got hooked act like this IRL.
Maybe a second best is to live with one. After you've seen people pee their pants and bust stuff up you get an appreciation for sobriety.
I dated someone who never made love sober. In her middle age we hooked up. I needed weeks to get her in the mood. Definitely was worth the work.
I know the police are unpopular right now because of the few bad cops out there, but I do appreciate the good cops that keep us safe from the violent animals that are out there. I hope the good cops that do protect the population stay safe. It's a hard job being a cop. My dad and brother are/were police officers. Thanks for all you do.
George Floyd pointed a gun at a pregnant woman's belly in the act of a robbery. The cop who smoked him is my HERO.
🐷🐽🐖
@@markogaudiosi5243 🤡🤡🤡🤡
I agree it's a hard job, but it's not just a few. Far from a few
I can imagine it's a different story once the cameras stop rolling. 🤔
Don't get drunk folks, it never pays off.
When my dad was teaching me to drive a car, one thing he stressed to me was how I should behave if a cop pulled me over. He said that even if I didn't think I had done anything wrong, I was to say nothing but "yes, sir" or "no, sir" because, as he put it, only a fool picks a fight with a man wearing a gun on his hip. These buffoons pick a fight with a whole ROOM FULL of people wearing guns on their hips! I don't understand this at all.
The people working the jails aren’t carrying guns.
Years ago I got caught smoking weed by the river and being polite and respectful to the police got me off with a warning. The cops said I was the nicest person they dealt with that day.
To be fair, the jail officers don't carry weapons in case inmates use such weapons against them.
A lady was killed in jail near where I live in Altoona Pennsylvania. She was accidentally shot when a cop shot her and she was a guard.
@@jackesioto Firearms aren't much good in close combat situations, such as the offender arcing up when a few feet away. Six feet can be closed up in just reaction time.
I use to teach classes to the inmates at the local jail. They had a sign on the wall that said, “This is the Carbarrus County Correction Center. This is not Burger King. You don’t get it your way.” And they meant it.
I spent 20+ years in the US Army(Field Artillery). I have seen some of the worst things humans could do to each other. I honest to God do not have the temperament to deal with these fools. My hat is off to the jailers.
They don't get paid enuff that's for sure!!!

I’ve been arrested a few times and as soon as they say ‘put your hands behind your back’ I try to show respect to everyone (including my fellow inmates) and I let my actions show them that I’m not going to try and hurt them. Respect is the most important thing to make the whole scenario better for everyone involved.
Hope life gets better for you. I was arrested so many times when I was younger due to alcohol, I would always try show respect too as they were just doing their job.
I was a Co and am currently training to be PD.
Hope you’re doing well, saw a lot of guys mixed up with some bad crap when I worked in county jail. Not all those guys are bad, and the inmates who appreciate respect and the COs who appreciate respect always are the best people to be around
Bro, you are so right it hurts. Of all the people I've had to arrest, if you're respectful, Cooperative, ill answer any questions, and even try to help you not go to jail. I've had people go from handcuffs to a ticket because they were respectful and honest. The only reason I'm taking you to jail is a warrant, mandatory arrest or you have a history of no show for court.
Had a dude who was so polite and Cooperative that he went from PWID, to simple possession, and made it to work that day with a ticket. Then in court I was able to ask for the minimum fine because of how decent this guy was.
Any man that wears flip flops like that first guy, deserves to go to jail!
😂😂
The police were so nice during my visit! Many of them greeted me when I arrived. They put me on a throne and carried me inside. There was a pretty nurse to give me special attention. Then they gave me a private room! I can't wait to go back.
I know right. And the gourmet food... To die for. Yea, been there myself over nite twice. NEVER again. I don't know how some never learn.

Ya, I agree. It brings out the real you that you suppress in front of people. I don’t drink much but it just makes me talkative. And usually friendly.
Incorrect. Many times people do things they would never do sober. I act different and will even become combative when I'm hammered. When I'm sober? I NEVER get into fights and 99% of the time back away from confrontation. That's why I rarely drink now. It CHANGES you, it doesn't show your true personality.
@@erroneous6947 No it doesn't. You can become the worst person for example when you get drunk but when you're sober you could be extremely nice and caring. I see it all the time. You can lie a lot as well when you're drunk so the whole myth of ''drunk people tell the truth'' is COMPLETELY false lol

Prohibition didn't work so what's the solution?
@@ariadneschild8460 It did work. Look at the Muslim countries. The problem in America was the implementation. In Islam it was not immediately prohibited. It came in different stages. That is the wisdom of Allah. I don't expect everyone to learn from the Muslims of course. But if you think objectively you'll know that just because something failed at a certain time and place, it doesn't that it was the right solution.
@@j.r.r.tolkien8724 the powers that be in those countries don't have financial interests in the production of alcohol. That's why prohibition failed, the people enacting the law were disregarding it themselves behind the scenes.

These officers are real pros! Great job indeed.
I think anyone who is being brought in intoxicated should spend some hours on the cell first before the rest of the procedures, just to sober up. It's a shame because a lot of the charges could have been prevented. Don't let alcohol and drugs speak.
Exactly. I have watched German police do that all the time.
That’s usually what happens in most jails and what happened in a lot of the situations in this show. They force them to sober up before they’re allowed to proceed to getting booked in.
My brother is a cop,and he told me that he would arrest a guy,or a girl if he catches them high again,,he let's them go the first time,,Then he catches them high again,,,well he puts on the cuffs,, and I think that's what should be done! Keep the streets safe! ❤️

Usually Body Cams or video cameras change everyone's behavior.
Not when off camera. They turn into Devils then.
It's really astounding how people can think that fighting police or prison staff would benefit them in any way. Especially the women. You think you can fight your way out of jail? Against 10 men, while you are in cuffs? And even IF you manage to do that... You just go home and shake it off? Man, I just can't wrap my head around such behaviour.
Imagine working the drunk tank all night.
Get so angry you don’t care what happens to you as long as you hurt the source of the anger
People are living with mental health issues. Society needs to provide care for them and not to treat them like animals. Putting them in cages every night does not solve the issue. Governments needs to provide social supports before it gets to this stage.
@truesky444 Yes they can not think therefore, guards do not need to treat them like animals. They need to be send to a detox place and teaching them life skills. Must angry drunks are full of fear and “sober guards” feel superior to them.

I've always been a fan of the American Police and I respect them more and more. This is how criminals and troublemakers should be treated. Too bad it's not like that here in Brazil! Congratulations for you all for sharing with us!
Thank and hello my Brazilian friend
I live in NY, I just visited Brazil last month, I spent five days in Rio de Janiero, and then traveled to Chile and Bolivia to see the Atacama Desert, Uyuni Salt Flats and La Paz. South America is so beautiful, I hope to see more of Brazil in the future and also Peru. I was surprised at how safe I felt in Rio, I met some of the nicest and most positive and like minded people ever during my time in Brazil, especially when I went to Maracana to see a football match! People were so nice and respectful towards each other, never gave any problems and the music was great. There were lots of police officers too so I never felt any danger.

It was really nice to see the woman @ 29:03 get treated with the same treatment as the men who tried to fight the officers. The officer right at the end said exactly what I would have, 21 years of age and sitting in a jail cell and a drug addict, that is so sad, and a poor reflection of our society.
She clearly needs to be in the psych ward
Smh
And at least equally a poor reflection on her. In a society as free as ours, we can't expect it to steer everyone the right way or fix everyone's problems. In all likelihood, this woman has made more than a few voluntary adult decisions that didn't serve her well, making a bad situation worse.
“Really nice” is a funny way to put it…
