Curiously enough it was my Dad who taught me to sew, as my Mom guarded her Victorian era Singer sewing machine that was made out of wrought iron, blocks from Cheops pyramid, scrapings from the Philosopher's Stone, and locked in it's own Ark, like some kind of suspicious Dragon lol. And her sewing scissors! God help you if you even looked in the general direction of the room she kept the precious instruments, hahaha. So out in the shed with Da it was, patiently stabbing ourselves with great pointy awls through great thick leathern projects. Good times.
Sounds like good times indeed mate... I've seen scissors like that, a foot long and painted black like instruments of torture from a medieval castle! Take care and have a great Easter weekend mate!
Suspicious Dragon 🤣🤣 love it.
You're not giving yourself near enough credit Del. I would never believe that was someone's first go at upholstery work. Your skills continue to amaze, sir. Hope you and Penny have a beautiful Easter. ❤👍👍
Thank you Rick, you are too kind, it wasn't even looking like it was going to succeed until i was punching in the last few staples, and im now in full respect of those professional trained trimmers who do the job every day.. have a wonderful easter break yourself too mate, and than kyou for your kind support. D&Pxx
The thought of using a sewing machine is terrifying, the finish on the seat looks top notch congrats
Thanks mate, i thought so too, but it appears the pedal makes them quite controlable (I took my boot off for better 'feel'), it only muscle memory and practice afer all..!
Brother, that a damn fine job! I don't even know how to thread a sewing machine, more-or-less how to use one. But that's the fun of learning something new. You gotta be prepared to fail before you can accomplish anything. Nicely done!
I think there was a saying there somewhere, fail to "prepare, and you'll prepare to fail".. I had to read up on how to thread the needle and wind the bobbin!... I didn't even understand all this 'in jargon' in the first place lol But now I have some new basic skills, I huess if this was a guitar, I would have strummed my first 'Smoke on the Water' lol
Never thought I would see a sowing machine as part of the toolkit Del. Good job👍
Me neither, but whatever does the job aye!
Nice work on your project! Growing up, my parents would reupholster the living room furniture as opposed to buying new furniture. They always used the old upholstery as a pattern for the new and it always came out great. Years ago, I reupholstered the seats in my 1959 Willys Overland pick-up by using what was left of the original upholstery as a pattern. It was much easier than I anticipated, and the result was exceptional! If I could add one small tip, use a smooth-faced plenishing hammer or mallet to gently hammer the stitch seams and you'll get a better fit and smoother look on the seams.
Thanks buddy, somebody else mentioned gently tapping the stitch lines with a soft mallet to smooth them out, so great tip indeed... thank you for your input!
The seat looks great. You get to brag about that since this was your first time even sewing, awesome job. You can pat yourself on the back for this one. Also, I pick out so many tricks that I put into practice which has helped me tremendously. Thanks.
Thank you mate, and you're very welcome, im glad our content can help you out with your projects.
Well done,
Bravo + Applause
It is customary to place a nylon foil underneath the vanilla , to prevent the sponge from absorbing water from the seam area.
Two pieces... but not the ones that are easiest to match!
You are definitely ready for the next step... 5 parts seat...
Thanks buddy, I don't know about that, I reckon any more panels with all those angles and curve lines, it'll end up looking like a deflated football lol... but thanks for your kind words, I really enjoyed it and I will take another bash at it in the future for sure...
Lol my nan's sewing machine weighed as much as a washing machine and about half the size of one too. Great job bruv. Take care yall.
Hey bruv, glad you enjoyed it, and I bet that ol' sewing machine still exists somewhere, unlike modern appliances, they were built to last!
Incredible!!! DELBOY CAN SEW!!!! The last time I sewed was when I was 19 years old making a down jacket. No training but self-taught. My mom was shocked I could make a winter jacket… but this.… quite a challenge.. Looks great!! I like it already! Penny must have smirked few times eh? Happy easter!
That is awesome, this was just one stitch line, (although it was a bit odd having to curve it).. the thought if attempting a jacket is just baffling.. well done you.
Well done mate! It looks good, Del. Certainly as good as many seats I've seen on new bikes, and to your point, the material is likely better quality too. Also, I must say... I am very impressed that your Nanna kept the box and packing for storage/transport of her sewing machine! ;)
Ha ha, Thanks Don 👍, glad youy approve, and yeah, i have to admit im pretty happy with the result.. it's certainly fit for perpose at least aye.. Have a great weekend mate, and stay safe.. D&Pxx
You inspire all to "jump in"
Thank you Tom!
You did a great job Del! I'm not quite the tailor I use to be like back in my youth, but thankfully, I can still handle my way around a sewing machine. Haven't had the need to do a seat cover but who knows what the future might bring.
Exactly that mate, we never know what opportunities pop up and it was great to be able to explore some new skills!
Apparently some of those metal skills translate to vinyl. It's tougher working with the thicker material. The idea for relief cuts was clever. Looks like an excellent first try to me!
Thanks Jerry, that was the only trial to noodle out and Penny came up with the solution of the relief cuts as, apparantly, it's a thing in dressmaking... so now I am fully equipped to make myself a dress whenever I need one lol
I think the seat looks good. My mum was a seamstress. She also had a sewing machine at home and she stepped away from the machine one day and I still have the scar in my finger 65 years later. I watched a video on how a sewing machine works and they are a great invention.
They sure are mate, some incredible mechanical thinking going on there, that kind of thing interests me more than using the machine itself! Hope you're all ok over there and the snow's gone and you're getting some Spring weather at last!
@@Moonfleet41 Another couple of weeks yet before the bike comes out of winter storage. The next project is to install a vinyl plank floor, a first for me.
Nice job Del
Thank you Mark!
Is there no end to the talent on this channel!!! Even the sewing machine is a Singer!!😂😂
I think you’ve done a really good job on that Del. Nice one!!
I see what you did there mate, you are a wag!... But with my sewing skills, I'm happy to be upstaged a static Singer with a bobbin thread!
Never doubted you for a minute Del nice job
If at first you don’t succeed, try try try again. Great result mate. Well done 👏🏻
Hi Del and Penny, hope you are both keeping well. Nice video and excellent job mate, not bad for a first go at upholstery work. Starting to cool down over this side, only 26C today. So I think the nice weather is coming your way, but don't keep it for too long as we want it back LOL. Take care, Cheers
Thanks mate.. good news on the weather too, and can you send over some red dust please to help us soak up some of the flood water too aye..lol! Thanks for your kind suport as always, have a great weekend mate and take care. D&Pxx
Well done sir, done an amazing job and learning a new skill sewing machine. Great video
Thanks mate, Glad you enjoyed it, im not so sure i "learned it" other than learning how hard it is..lol!
Add "Tailor" to your bag of tricks, Delboy! Pretty soon, you'll be killing 7 giants at one blow!.. This winter, I borrowed my daughter's sewing machine and tried my hand at sewing in a liner for the game pouch in my ancient hunting coat, and it was ...Interesting :) In some places, the stitches are ...mmm straight?.... In other places... not so much... There is a double line of stitches on a cuff repair that look more like two serpents engaging in coitus, rather than two parallel lines, like I have on the "unmodified" other cuff... "It adds character"... That's what I tell myself :)... Enjoy your Easter weekend, D&P
Hey Tommy, I know what you mean, I am pretty deft at the hand sewing, but the amount of times I've sewn the workpiece to my own sleeve shows I'm probably not gonna earn a living from it! Have a great Easter too! D&Px
Learning new skills is awesome Del. Well done mate, more than decent finish for the seat.
Thanks mate 👍, much appreciated!
Good effort that’s a quality job, it will outlast factory seats. Give it a go and challenge yourself well done.
Thanks mate, I enjoyed it and it's great to get a usable item at the end!
Fair play pal,it hard to get a seat right.
It certainly is Jerry, total respect for trimmers!
Great video Del. Nice work, looks perfect and another skill to use around the home. Wise words too. “Life is short. You have to be able to laugh at our pain or we will never move on”.
Absolutely mate, life is too short to get involved in drama, specially after a pretty significant health scare..!
Never fails to amaze me, your ability to try your hand at everything. Done a good there bud.
Thanks mate, really enjoyed doing it.!
Well done for having a go. From what I can see on the video Del it's turned out well 👍
Thanks mate👍
Wasn’t expecting that topic. Fun to watch!
Thanks mate! Fancied trying my hand at something new, all I really learned was how tricky it is, oh and a big helping of respect for professional trimmers too!
Wow you are really good at that, Del! No surprise, really… That looks better than factory! Regards to you both! 🏍️👍🏍️
Thank you kindly sir. 👍
Great job Del! Bloody excellent for a first time mate! Well done 👍
Thanks Paul👍, that's very kind mate!
Hi Penny and Del. Great video! I can turn my hand to most things - I'm even the button mender in our house - but sewing and trimming I regard as somewhere between a mystery and a dark art! I think you did a fine job for a novice! Happy Easter weekend, dear friends. Take care, ride safe and be well.
Thanks mate, I think I'll join you in that!... Half of me says this was a simple enough task and I managed to blunder my way through, the other half says 'beginner's luck' and I'll probably naff it up the next time I try! Thanks for all you support, enjoy your Easter holidays there too, D&Px
Another awesome video brother !!!! proud of you for taking on the challenge , seat came out great !!! ive never used a sewing machine before but it looks intimidating lol keep up the good work, stay safe guys cheers from new york !!!!! 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
Thank you Brother.. yeah, it was a great opportunity to try something new, and explore other skill sets.. im sure it would take a lifetime to get good at it, and if this task had been any more challenging i would havce been better taking it to a proper trimmer.. Take care both of you and stay safe.. D&Pxx
Brilliantly unintentionally funny , so we can expect to see a Dels Sewing channel sometime soon, then yes 😂
Yes mate, 'The Great British Sewing DBG' lol... see what I did there!!
Great Job Del...I can sew on a button,, but that's about it LOL
Looks pretty darned good to me, Del. Well done for having a go!
Thanks mate, much appreciated!
Cheers mate, glad you approve.
Good effort Del, can't knock it.
Thanks mate 👍, a humble first effort!
Good on you del for someone who’s not a trimmer or seat maker you did a very good job 👍 (way better than I could of done 😂😂
Not sure the trimmers would think so 😂, but im happy woth it and it's more then fit for purpose aye !
Not too shabby at all for a first, mate. You have gifted hands, and a brain to go with it. Be proud of yourself. Is it the first episode of sowing on this channel? Happy days, Günter/Nürnberg
Hi Günter, it's most certainly my first effort at sewing, it is strangely theraputic, but I imagine a more challenging task would be a bit more stressful lol Have a great weekend there, ride safe!
@@Moonfleet41 You started with sowing 101 and it's been a success. Next time with confidence it'll become more difficult. As you said: It's a trade that takes years to learn. Enjoy the good weather while looking for Easter eggs, Günter/Nürnberg
Excellent job Del.
Got to thinking about the options I had a school ie vehicle technology, metalwork, woodwork, electronics, science etc
I did woodwork and electronics only a handful of lucky kids got to do vehicle technology and build go-karts and fly up and down the school yard disturbing everyone elses class 😅
Loads of skills go into your awesome creativity!
Thanks mate, I was like you, lucky enough to do metalwork and able to learn the joy of making something from scratch materials... happy days, if I knew back then what it would mean to me, I probably wou;d have done better at it at the time!
Touché!
I wanted to swap when I saw my best mate doing some casting, I was captivated seeing the molten aluminium being poured into the sand casting.
The woodworking came in really handy later in life after my stint at homelessness. I had my own antique restoration business.
Happy days.
Ps went out for a blast today after the crash I had last October. Fj is awesome 👌
Nice one Del 👍
Brilliant job for a first try👍
Keep up the great work Del 'n' Pen 👍
Thanks Paul, glad you approve, just a bit of fun and happy with my first effort!
lovely to see you work on this bike del, really enjoyable .Much kove
Many thanks, as always, for your wonderful, kind comments Piers, it's always lovely to hear from you!
Good effort, that's a tidy looking seat👏🏻👍🏻
Thanks mate 👍
Your a braver man than I for attempting that, looks good to me.
Looking back, i did imagine it to be a bit less complicated, but once you're into it, and understand the principles, it's just a matter of practice and patience aye !
Lloks great , first times the charm Bro ! 👍🏻🤠👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Well done once again.
Ha,ha.And you actually had fun doing it. Nicely done. Thanks for the show.
You bet, great to expand your skill set and explore new disciplines!
Well done, methodical and patient as ever, and not discounting the trade as well, cheers!
Thanks buddy, I learned a great deal about upholstery today, but not how to do it, just how difficult it is and how talented these people must be!
I think you did a great job Del it looks brilliant
Many thanks
I need some curtains taking up... lol. Well done Del. I covered my Bandits seat & it was tricky.
Yeah sure thing mate, we learn very quickly that some trades seriously earn their money, don't ya think?!
The work is very nice.
Cheers.
Appreciate your kind words of support mate!
Well done you lefthanded glever lad top stuff 👏
Ha ha, along with Gengis Kahn and Atila The Hun... Hope you're enjoying the Scrambler mate.. have fun and ride safe aye.. x
Looks great!
Thanks Harold.
Great job👍🏻
Thank you! Cheers!
🙏 full respect to you for having a go at this...I wouldn't have a clue mate..no sewing machine or experience of them..👍
Me neither, but it's just parctice and a little patience i guess !
Wow great job you can't fail if you don't at least try 🎉
Top job mate love what you’re doing.makes me happy every time I see you’ve got a new vid out keep up the good work.
Thanks so much mate, 👍 We really appreciate your kind support, it makes it all worth while.
Well done good job that is 👍👍👍
Thanks John!
Lovely quote Del!
Cheers mate, true words aye, enjoy every moment!
Looks good from here
Thanks mate.
Great job Del, Sealey must do a heat gun they can supply you ?
I have one, but in my ignorance, it didn't occur to me to use it... every day's a school day!
Great work del, very interesting to watch, regards Mike, Derbyshire, enjoy Easter, with penny
@@mikehowarth6165 Thanks so much Mike, you too buddy.. have a good one. ! D&Px
Good job mate
Thanks mate!
Nice one Del.
Thank you buddy!
I underestimated your talent and determination......Well done'
Thank you Tom!
No skill eh Del? Having done a few seats i can honestly say that's a nice job! I like how you kept practising to get the front just so.
Yer, nice!
Thanks mate 👍, I thnakfully only needed one practive piece to get the principal of curving the two mis-matched panels so thet form a pocket!... Clearly lots of technical elements to making a seat cover and great fun to give it go!
Hello brother Del, fancy n nifty machine work there, I have a pair of Levi's that need taken up 😂😂 , you can here women all over the world shouting where the hell is my sewing machine,🤣🤣🤣 as always brother great video, Happy Easter to Penny and You 🙏🏻🍻
Thank you Col, perhaps I can start a little sideline, although I won't be living on it any time soon that's for sure lol Have a great Easter yourself, thank you for your kind wishes, D&Px
I need some cushions done del 😂 nice job mate well done 👏
Cheers buddy, I'll ask Nana if she can fit you in!
It looks good, my friend...not a bad first go at all, I'd say! Maybe in a few year's time, we'll see a Delboy's Custom Seat Shop!!
Blimey that would be a miracle mate, they'd have to be very simple seats lol And I probably wouldn't make enough to pay the bills... thanks for your kind words, enjoy your weekend!
@@Moonfleet41 I knew that would be good for a chuckle...lol! You two enjoy the weekend as well!
My wife used to have one of those, she called it Pearl.
Amazing job
Thanks!
I don't think "good enough" applies here. I think you did a really nice job. I would be more than happy with that! ✌️🧡
Thank you so much kind Sir 😊... not claiming any skills here, just happy it's not wonky and there are no holes in it!! Eveything else is a bonus... Happy Easter!!
Nice job, you are bring modest. That'll last you for years I bet. Thanks :)
Thanks mate, I'm refusing to claim any credit, it was a single line of stitching and a stretch and staple! ... I'd like to thank my agent, Penny for not laughing too loudly whilst filming, a decent staple gun and everyone who knows me....sob, sob....
@@Moonfleet41 :)
God Job my friend simply perfect….you,re a master
Far from it mate, just a keen first timer who got lucky with an 'ok' result!
What no diamonds stitching mate 😂😂aye🤘
Blimey, that single seam made me sweat enough, the thought of diamond stitching would have broken out the defibrillator (again!)...
Seat looks fine.
Thanks Donald, very kind of you!
Thank You!
Great video del just one question what's the watch your wearing looks smart
Thanks mate... that made me chuckle, as whilst I have a nice watch that was a special gift, I don't want to damage it with thr robust work I so often do in the garage, clouting it on metal parts when I'm sticking my arm in to bike frames etc! So Penny bought it for me as a 'work watch', believe it or not, it's a cheap watch from Argos!!
Nice one mate.. Try some steam and minor heating it up to stretch that material. Once it’s got moisture, and hot, fit it and let it shrink
Thanks for the tip mate, good idea, thanks so much for your input!
Jeesus man is there anything you can't do.
Looks a great job Del well done mate.. 😊 much better than I could have achieved.. happy Easter weekend to you Penny and your families dude 😊 Pete 👍😃🚴🏻
Thanks Pete 👍wishing you the same my friend, have a great weekend and stay safe! D&Px
Nice work, as ever. 👍
Thanks a lot 😊
Nothing wrong with that Delboy. Well done. Fit for purpose. BTW how is your heart issue now? All good I hope.
Thanks mate, I appreciate your kind words, I think you hit the nail on the head 'fit for purpose'... I wouldn't dare claim anything more! Also, thanks for your kind words on health, if I'm honest, it's 'not OK'... I am left with permanent Congestive Heart Failure, plenty of meds every day and taking a less stressful path in life and, hopefully, I'll hold out long enough to reach my pension...
A good friend of mine said "If you can get up in the morning and put one foot in front of the other, you are having a good day" Good luck with everything and keep coggin em!@@Moonfleet41
@@michaellizbrown1865 True words mate, every day is a gift!
You know, I never see Penny in any of the videos anymore not even out riding.. she must not like us anymore
Oh she's always here, making the videos possible, and with the way that the internet has become, she's a lot happier behind the scenes now..
i would be happy with that dell
Thanks Allen
What is next, darning socks?
Nothing wrong with that job at all
Well-done, if you don't try you don't know.
Sure thing Gerry, I wouldn't try anything more adventurous, it's pretty tricky and the materials are quite expensive, so it'd be an expensive learning curve, time you get half good at it, you could have paid a trimmer lol
Your natural talent is becoming annoying now. 😂 not enough credit has been given to yourself here! Cracking result as always Del. S
Thanks mate, glad you approve!
Hello del, could you post a link to where.you bought the seat foam, i am asking a recommendation please🎉
The foam camping mat i used came from 'Go Outdoors', bought it over the counter..!
nice job big man hows life been treating you hope you both keeping well atb iain
Hi Iain, yeah we're all good, and just living life, paying the bills and looking forward to some nice weather so we can get out for a ride. !
'Holy Busa Bum-perch Batman!' . . . if that bike formed a band, they'd be called 'Pelvic Thrust'!
(Needs a mini space-hopper, with goggles, sat in it for that 'soon-to-go-viral' publicity shot : )xx
The lyrical gangsta as always!
And people moan at paying £350 for a seat 🙄
Ain't that the truth! Every penny a trimmer charges is well earned...
Nice job Del, you will be making your own clothes soon. lol
That's the plan, although I'm not sure the Ronald McDonald look will go down well lol
That's the plan, although I don't think the Ronald McDonald look with go down well lol
