If it wasn't for Will Smith's slap that overshadowed everything, this was one of the best moments from this year's Oscars. When Gaga leaned over to whisper to Liza: "I gotcha", that was such a beautiful moment. Say what you want about Gaga, the way she respects and treats her elders like Tony Bennett and Minnelli, it says a lot about her humility and compassion.
Lady Gaga knew how to help Liza without being condescending. When she lent in to Liza and said ‘I got you’. She had a class and care about her that is so rare. What a way to honour and respect a legend. This was the best and most important moment of the night.
When my grandmother died, she had terrible dementia. The ability to talk to someone with dementia/Alzheimer's/etc without being condescending is one of the best ways to help. They aren't stupid, they just forget things. ❤.
What a beautiful moment. Lady Gaga handled this like a true professional. Her compassion and love was so evident. She really does appreciate the legends. And hats off to Liza for giving it her all. Not much of a fan of anything involving Hollywood but this moment deserves far more attention and praise than that Will Smith Chris Rock mess. Lady Gaga showed so much class and heart and Liza Minnelli should be considered a national freakin treasure. Lady Gaga, wow, just, my ❤️. This woman and her spirit, these stars are being dusted off, polished and brought back out and you can tell they love it so much and she's there for them and it's so beautiful. She's a crutch but she knows they're the legends, and she reminds them. It was so touching.
I totally see the total respect and dignity that Lady Gaga gives Liza Minelli, Judy Garland’s talented daughter, even though she’s a little lost and it’s absolutely beautiful to see.
Love seeing all the new admirers of Lady Gaga! These two have been friends since circa 2009, one year into Gaga's career, when Liza tuned up backstage to the Monster Ball to see Gaga. Gaga has always won the admiration of musical legends, from Tony to Elton to Cher to Liza to Madonna to Al Pacino to Sting to Barbra... even MJ wanted her to collaborate with her before he passed; its reported she was the only non-legend he requested for his final tour... the list goes on... She is a class act, always this humble, full of such humility and compassion. It's a shame no one could see past the meat dress and theatrics, as she has ALWAYS been like this.
Yes!!! I remember all this! The only one that was ever bitter towards Gaga was Madonna…but that’s long gone now. I just wonder what would MJ have done with Gaga if he never passed away…

I feel similarly as far as indifference to Lady Gaga. This could EASILY have been so awkward and uncomfortable for all involved-Minnelli, Lady Gaga, the AUDIENCE.
