      Yep. Speaking as someone with autism I've spent my life being mocked and derided for my awkwardness. Low-hanging fruit. Whether or not Joaquin is on the spectrum, he is awkward and that's not his fault. Many people gravitate towards acting to overcome social awkwardness, and without a script and director they're flummoxed.

I loved that it was like that, not only because Anthony hopkins was the one who really deserved the Oscar, but also to teach the Organizers a valuable lesson about not disrespecting traditions for stupid reasons. The Oscar for Best Picture is the last one to be awarded, no matter if it is predictable or if another Category is unpredictable or exciting.

    Another thing that causes the whole "Jack Palance saying the wrong name when announcing Marisa Tomei" to not make sense: as we saw with the whole La La Land/Moonlight fiasco, if Palance had read the wrong name, someone would've gone onstage and announced that it was a mistake. And the fact that we didn't get a Steve Harvey Miss Colombia Vs. Miss Philippines moment, kinda proves that Tomei did, in fact, win it.

    1. Madonna can say anything she wants, and in the way she wants it. She was obviously ahead of her time, and knew we were gonna get tired of listening to "My Heart Will Go On" in the airwaves over and over and over again. Celine Dion has much better songs than that one (which, is not a bad song), but, of course, "My Heart Will Go On" was shoved down our ears as a marketing maneuver.
    2. Meryl Streep does open the envelope. When she hugs Daniel Day-Lewis as he walks up to the center of the stage, you can clearly see the card, and she's holding both the card and the envelope with one hand.
    3. You forget that when Joaquin Phoenix presented that Oscar, it was 2021, and we were in the MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC! No one wanted to be there, there was no vaccine yet, and people were wary of each other.
    4. Many of the moments you're criticizing involves elderly actors presenting awards. You say "Warren Beaty should've said this...", but you forget, not only is that moment really awkward, but Warren's thought processing is probably not the same as it was 10, 20, or 30 years ago. It's not only a big deal for them to be standing up in front of Hollywood's best, but it is also a huge effort they're physically and mentally making to be there. It doesn't take away the fact that it was a bad moment, but, don't expect elderly people to say what you're thinking.

I found it very sweet of him how he just said "Catherine" when he announced his former co-star with whom he obviously got along very well. Her response towards him also was very warm. I don't find Madonna's reaction disrespectful at all. She just spoke out what everyone knew from the moment the nominations where announced. B the way "My Heart Will Go On" kept her Single "Frozen" and the Titanic soundtrack kept her album "Ray of Light" from entering the No.1 spot on the Billboard Charts.

    The Kathy/Catherine thing reminds me of at the 2002 Daytime Emmy Awards when two ladies named Susan (Lucci, Flannery) were nominated for Lead Actress. Flannery won but the presenters only said "Susan!!!!" and they played the wrong theme music so people thought Lucci won. It was a very embarrasing moment for daytime Emmy.

    • @86am
      @86am 4 месяца назад +1

      I thought of the same moment. I believe that Flannery's costars did say her last name, but the crew backstage insisted that Lucci (who was backstage) walk out. Lucci even mouthed "Susan Flannery?"

    • @RhaegarTargaryen1st
      @RhaegarTargaryen1st 4 месяца назад +1

      I remember that. The confusion stems from the presenter, Adrienne Frantz, and her shrill shrieking excitement over Susan Flannery (a castmate and real-life friend) winning. She said the full name but was literally shrieking it so you couldn't understand. The soap press took her to task for causing the confusion and "humiliating" Susan Lucci.

    I don’t know if that moment is entirely Joaquin Phoenix fault for how things ended during the 93rd Oscar ceremony. She wasn’t being condescending, It was candid and quite a common reaction that most people would’ve had. As if anyone thought that that award would go any other way. So what you interpret as condescending probably says more about how you feel about Madonna than it does about how Madonna felt about that award.

Will Rogers invited Best Actress nominees May Robson and Diana Wynyard onstage, congratulated them for their "sparkling performances," probably leading everyone to think that there was a tie (there was the year before for Best Actor).
