One of the first ones that came to mind for me is Barbara Streisand saying, "Well the time has come...Kathryn Bigelow." That one sticks with me. I don't know if it's on the list, yet, but that was pretty iconic to me.
I think Spike Lee was happy that it wasn’t Quentin Tarrentino’s name on the envelope as he’s been very public about how much he dislikes Quentin and the abundance of times his movies uses the N-word. I think Spike wanted either Bong Jung-Ho or Martin Scorsese to win.
One more note about Samuel L. Jackson announcing Spike Lee's win - both Jackson and Lee attended Morehouse College (although not at the same time), and that "Tha HOUSE!" Jackson shouts at first is a salute to his fellow Morehouse alum.
@@gaylefranklin I'm a white lady who never went to Morehouse, I looked it up on the internet because I was curious. "Everybody" may not need to know but the info's already out there, I'm afraid.
I remember watching "Barbra Streisand" in "Funny Girl" and was taken by her presence not just her voice but through it all I was crying - she gave an "OSCAR" Performance despite having Katherine Hepburn, "Lion in Winter" both movies were great However, the ACTING was Magnificent by both actresses.
My personal favorite Oscar winning announcement of all time has got to be when Anne Bancroft announced Sidney Poitier as the winner. It’s so memorable to me because she was overjoyed when he won and she gave him a huge hug on stage, which was during the 1960’s! It was controversial to see a white woman physically embracing a black man at the time, but Anne did not care at all! She was in the right side of history and that moment has been immortalized on film!
While some don't agree with the win, I found it very moving when Yuh-Jung Youn "signed" the name that was in the envelope, signaling to the audience who it was. But the best part (for me) is when they show the nominee/winner reactions (I always go back to see each one individually). Most people don't "get" us Oscar "savants!"
The best bit about her signing the name - during the acceptance speech for her own win, she gently teased everyone for consistently mispronouncing her name. And then when she was presenting, she opened by reminding people about that and then said that now the shoe was on the other foot, because now SHE had to struggle with pronouncing THEIR names. But it clearly looks like she did her homework - because not only did she say Troy Kotsur's name right, she made a point of "pronouncing" it in BOTH languages.

My fave moment is when Clint Eastwood is announcing Best Director in 1994. He opens the envelope and says “And the Oscar goes to- this is a big surprise. Steven Spielberg for Schindler’s List.” He knew Spielberg was gonna win so it wasn’t a surprise really but it’s still funny to hear. lol
Completely off topic but I have always loved Barbara Streisand's entire look that night at the 1969 ceremony. Her hair and outfit was so perfect for her
When you brought up Barbra Streisand as #1, I though you were going to use her "It's about time!" announcement of Kathryn Bigelow winning Best Director.
Call it subtlety, but I do love Russell Crowe's calm announcement of saying Halle Berry for Monster's Ball for the Oscar win for Best Actress in 2002. He knew the moment was going to be big, and Halle's reaction would be bigger. It was perfect. Also, 2023, Jessica Chastain announcing with excitement Michelle Yeoh as Best Actress for Everything Everywhere All At Once, with Halle Berry personifying the excitement too.
I think that you might have misinterpreted Crowe's announcement. It was not a "calm announcement," it was an announcement "through gritted teeth." He was disappointed (mad) that his friend Nicole Kidman didn't win.
One of my favorites is Marion Cotillard announcing Kate Winslet. It was so precious. There's also Meryl Streep announcing Daniel Day-Lewis. You don't even watch her opening anything, because she somehow did it during the clips I guess. She just announces it like it's the most obvious thing ever to happen. Iconic.
I’m not sure what happened between Julia and Russel. But I think her “ I love my life “ was because her friendly relationship with Denzel since they worked together. She even more exited when saluted him at AFI. Imagine handing an award to a mate like Denzel.
Another favorite, when Spielberg announced Best Director in 1995, he opened the envelope and said, “Alex, your father just won the Academy Award. Robert Zemeckis for Forrest Gump!” That was such a sweet moment. :3
George C, Scott in Patton. How could there be any doubt? One of the all time greatest performances ever. If you don't believe it, watch this great movie
I'm a BIG OSCAR FAN since my teens so I learned that through the years there are reasons why some actors/actresses are given the OSARS. One in particular was due to Elizabeth Taylor being hospitalized and despite her private live complications, she was given the Oscar for "Butterfield 8" in the 1960s. I did "LOVE" Alberto, an Italian actor whose performance was outstanding but mesmerizing due to the movie in Italian with subs. I know Italian so I could follow it. However, the ending of this movie shocked me because despite Alberto's funny antics THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE SCENES to keep his son smiling throughout his detention due to being Jewish, Alberto provides suspense until the end which is why I Love, the movie, "LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL."
What about Sean Connery announcing Titanic as the Best Picture? The way he does the double-take when looking at the envelope and his enthusiasm in announcing it!
I've always liked the reaction of Sophia Loren when Roberto won. I don't think or ever have thought her reaction is anything to do with the audience shouting his name out. I think she's really happy that a fellow Italian won and you can tell by the reaction from Roberto that he's over the moon to be receiving it from her being a legendary Italian actress. The mutual appreciation for 2 people from the same country shows when they hug on stage and watching Sophias face whilst he's saying his speech. I think it's a genuine excited moment between the 2 of them. Roberto was hilarious
So many amazing clips but that is the perfect #1 choice. Ingrid Bergman's best moment on the Oscars stage easily. And Denzel's "By a nose" comment to Nicole was absolutely perfect ❤ Great video again 🎉
They’re good friends and it stands she would be happy for him. I personally don’t see why other people have an issue with it. When Denzel presented Julia with the Golden Globe for Erin Brokovich, he said “my girl” before announcing her as the winner and then gave her a big hug and lifted her up. 🤷
Ariana DeBose announcing Ke Huy Quan’s win will probably always be my favorite. The genuine emotions barely letting her get his name out. She was all of us that night 😭
Would also add Ariana de Bose tearing up while announcing Ke Huy Quan’s win; and Penelope Cruz shouting ‘Pedro’ when All About My Mother won Best Foreign Language Film. Such genuine, heartfelt emotions. Also when Streisand said ‘The time has come’ when awarding Bigelow for Best Director.
William Hurt announcing Marlee Matlin He read it and signed her name and was crying because they were an item at the time I thought that would have been #1 or at least mentioned when you talked about Troy Kotsur
The way Kevin Spacey said ‘Julia Roberts!’ for Erin Brockovich) Was lovely and you could tell he was happy for her. But I know, Spacey is ‘he who shall not be named’ these days.
Youn Yuh-jung announcing Troy Kotsur added even more joy and happiness to that history making moment. What a classy and amazing human being she is! Love you, Youn! ❤❤❤❤❤
A young Penélope Cruz screaming at the top of her lungs "PEEEDROOO" before Antonio Banderas has the chance to say the oscar goes to Pedro Almodovar has to be my number one moment.
Kirk Douglas and Michael Douglas announcing Chicago as the best picture in 2003 Michael: You're suppose to say "And the Oscar goes to".... Kirk: And the winner is.... 😅 😅😅😅😅
I'm shocked that Scorsese's long over due win was not even mentioned. There was so much enthusiasm going into the night. for then to be announced by legends Coppola, Lucas and Spielberg. aaaaannndddd an epic standing ovation. "spread out."
I have to favorite Oscar win announcements: Rock Hudson & Liza Minnelli announcing Shirley MacLaine and Walter Matthau & Jack Lemmon announcing the best screenplay ('Good Will Hunting'). But Sophia is awesome.
Love the randomness of the Oscar list videos. What's next Brian, Top 10 Oscar Presenter Banter of All Time? Will Ferrell or Ben Stiller has got to be in there
"LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL", really is a beautiful, amazing and perfectly directed movie!!! It's a shame Roberto's career never recovered afterwards, but I remember watching it for the first time and it truly was amazing. I am happy he won. 🏆
I knew it would be the Katherine/Barbra tie. It's the most iconic. I wish Barbra had won on her own but who can argue with Katherine. Now you have to do the worst oscar announcements (looking at you Faye!)
Barbra should have lost by 1 vote, because she was given special consideration (by the BoD) to join the Academy - unlike everyone else who had to follow the rules. And we’d never had known it was by 1 vote, because the Academy doesn’t reveal those things.
I grew up watching all the awards shows.. I even thought of throwing a Oscar party with a red carpet & Paps snapping & flashing every one. 100%. I refuse to watch any of the award shows any more. Ricky Gervais was right when he said at the Golden Globes (paraphrasing here) to thank your mom and dad, thank your agent and your God, and then get the f*** off the stage!! I’m so sick of celebrities using their acceptance speech to scold everyone who doesn’t share their opinion on whatever subject, or to insult people with political views different to theirs. They have every right to have their own opinions, but the tone to express them is during the talk show circuit after they’ve won, on their social media, or literally any other place besides an event where they’ve been given an award for playing pretend (no matter how good they are at doing it)!
There is a clip of Fay Bainter presenting Hattie McDaniel with her Oscar. Bainter said that she was happy to be the one to present it because it "opened the doors, moved back the walls, and enables us to embrace the whole of America." And don't forget about Barbra Streisand's whoop announcing "Lose Yourself" as Best Song or the silent "whoa!" from Jack Nicholson after announcing "Crash" as Best Picture.
I especially loved when Shirley MacClaine announced Jane Fonda as the winner for best actress at the 44th Academy Awards. The way she sounded happy and shocked.

Yes
It brings me so much joy! 😂 🤣

Yeah, I'm shocked he didn't mention it. That was an emotional moment.
That was more about making the moment about her. Can't stand her
BIG TIME
You mean "openly queer" Ariana De Bose?
One of the first ones that came to mind for me is Barbara Streisand saying, "Well the time has come...Kathryn Bigelow." That one sticks with me. I don't know if it's on the list, yet, but that was pretty iconic to me.
Spike Lee announcing "BONG JOON HO" lives rent free in my head
Spike Lee’s face: “Yet another minority wins before a black director.”
Barbara announcing Bigelow as Best Director was very special as well.
I always like the way Queen Latifah announced "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" won.

I literally came to the comments for this ☝️☝️☝️
When Julianne Moore Announced Leonardo DiCaprio in 2015. That was a magical moment since the whole room knew it was long overdue and well deserved.
