    I see a lot of comments saying that this new behaviour makes more sense. You're right, but in that case, WHY the others CC2019 app do not behave like that ?? Adobe can't release apps that works differently; If they want their users to change their shortcuts habits, they have to change it in all their apps. Doing this in photoshop only is ridiculous.

    • @methral
      @methral 5 лет назад

      also with default setting you cant get smart-guide snapping (that is activated using shift) and proportional scaling.. that's just dump in my opinion.

    • @Design_Z
      @Design_Z 5 лет назад

      I agree, this new shift methodology is really bad. People use shortcuts as their second nature as super fast during their projects. Learning this new behavior for people who've been using photoshop for years just adds unnecessary jolt and frustration in the overall workflow.

      As it says in the video, it's not even cosistent within Photoshop itself, with the transform being different. STUPID STUPID STUPID CHANGE.

    • @blegger1234
      @blegger1234 4 года назад

      "Makes sense", it's all completely arbitrary. Changing this is a pointless design change for its own sake. Unfortunately Adobe has a Monopoly.

    I like the original way better because it's how all the programs work and what is expectable. The reversed scaling configuration is probably not very helpful for many people. I hope Adobe will put an option in the settings where to adjust this behaviour without need for a hack...
    Thanks anyway!

    • @PhotoshopTrainingChannel

      I'm used to the new way now. But I think that a check box in the preference panel would be a good idea.

  • @fundraised
    @fundraised 5 лет назад +9

    Thanks, that will be useful to many users. However, is there a hack that can make the vector transform tool work the same way as the 2019 version of the normal transform tool? That way, every transform operation would work proportionally until you hold down the shift key.

  • @EricaDyson
    @EricaDyson 5 лет назад +1

    How I wish they hadn't changed the scale transform. It messes me up. Now you've helped me get back to 'normality'!

  • @jeannebertolina9776
    @jeannebertolina9776 5 лет назад +1

    Thanks so much for this tip. I can't for the life of me understand how Adobe would think it is a good idea to have something work differently in different situations. All one way or the other please. This is not just resisting change, it's really a bad and confusing move. Also, I think that when I rasterized either type or a smart object the behavior reverted back to the need for the shift key. Can't remember for sure, but I'm not going back to find out. Anyway, it was a mess, and I was constantly getting the opposite of what I wanted and having to step back to do it over. I don't like Adobe deleting the center point by default either. Yes it's a pain to pick it up by mistake, but I rotate elements often, mostly not from the center, and panicked when I couldn't figure out how to get my rotate point back. Then I remembered to look in your video, which I had watched weeks before the product release. Adobe should send out an alert on all upgrades to let people know how to get rid of their "improvements," which may be good for some people, but are a royal pain in the ass to others. And it should be easy to revert.

    The paths listed won't work in Mac Mojave. Do follow the instructions to create the "PSUserConfig.txt" file.
    But instead do the following at this point:
    Save the file on your desktop as “PSUserConfig.txt” (Unicode (UTF-8) is just fine)
    While in your Finder, click on Go
    Hold down option, and you’ll see Library pop up. It’s hidden in the Mojave version
    Open Preferences
    Open Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 Settings
    Drag your new PSUserConfig.txt into this folder (Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 Settings)
    Relaunch Photoshop

  • @photoshopeandotv

    Hello Jesus! Generally, I try to adapt to this kind of changes, but this time around, I found myself working in a less productive way with the new system, so after 2 weeks, I decided to roll back to the previous way of transforming (I was lucky to find this hack in the Adobe forums). I even made a video on my channel with my reasons for prefering the old method over the new one - they are these ones:
    - First, like you say, pixel transforms and vector transforms are handled with a different criterium. Maybe there's a reason for that, but it introduces an inconsistency that is really confusing to me (I have to check what kind of layer I'm on everytime I'm about to transform something).
    - I regularly perform selection transformations (specially, to modify an elliptical marquee selection so that it perfectly encompass an elliptical irregular shape in my image) - I think this kind of transformation is not-proportional by nature, so, I was finding myself pressing Shift all the time, when I never had the need to, until this change.
    - As far as I'm concerned, the "new transform" renders the good-old Content Aware Scale useless, unless we press Shift everytime. I mean, does Content Aware Scale serve any practical purpose if it always defaults to transforming proportionally? So, again, I was finding myself pressing Shift everytime (as opposed to the "old" behavior, where I can use the tool without pressing any extra key).
    - And last but not least, there's an extra change introduced with the new method that I wasn't aware of initially: now, the side handles (the ones in the middle of the top/bottom and left/right sides) also transform proportionally (previously, they always worked in a single dimension). As with the first point (vector/pixel transforms), I think this is inconsistent and unnecessary - the corner handles do control 2 dimensions, and I can understand the change, but I think the side handles are unidimensional and should have been left as they were.
    What I'd really like to know is your personal preference... if you want to share it, of course. Thanks for your video and have a great day!

      Muscle memory made it difficult for me to change. But since I teach I had to relearn so that I don't have different settings than the defaults. I like it now.

    This is an excellent tip (thank you), and I applied it as I was watching the video. But I am still in the process of deciding which way I like better. When I thought that the new way was the only way, I just set in to learn it and make it part of my process, because life goes on, right? The actual part I am most on-the-fence about is between the old way of scaling both ends (using Shift-Alt to scale top and bottom from the center in 2018) and the new way of scaling top and bottom by pressing only the Alt key in 2019. Using this hack you presented also goes back to the 2018 way of scaling from the center.
    Since I scale equally from the center dozens of times per day, that's the more important decision for me, and I still haven't come up with a preference. But choices are good. Thanks!
