Awesome facts I’ve picked up from books regarding the Custodes: - the value of their armor is measured in planets - when the custodes were made, Valdor lamented to the emperor why he had made them so powerful because they were absolutely curb stomping everyone in the war of unification. The emperor said he made them powerful enough to fight and win against the unknown. - a custodian doing recon on a planet requested 30 other custodians to assist him. His superior scoffed and gave him 5 because 30 would be enough to conquer the entire system. - all custodians are sons from Terra’s most notable family dynasties. This was a compromise the emperor did to help smooth over conquering the planet during the war of unification. - their shields weigh 2,000 lbs - custodians came across a space marine chapter that was betrayed and were under attack from marines that had turned traitor. They killed the traitors and then killed the loyalists because they deemed the very act of being betrayed by brothers in their own chapter as heretical. The lead custodian picked up the chapter master by the throat and crushed his neck. - a custodian torchbearer fleet was bringing primaries reinforcements to a chapter that recently turned traitor. They placed the reinforcement primaris under arrest simply by the association of being reinforcements. The primaris objected…and died.
to be honest, these sound like bad fanfiction. 30 custodians would be enough to conquer the entire system? How is this even supposed to make sense? Way more powerful beings cannot do such things.
Small correction: An Inquisitor CAN NOT order a Custodes to do aaaaaaanything. Guilliman actually can order them but they can ignore it if they decide it threatens the emperor but as long as it aligns with the big E they will obey which they are doing in the books with Guillimans return.

As the custodes walks towards the crowd the rioters proceed to either: piss themselves, run for the hills, crying for their dear lives, or try to touch his cape for blessings.
I mean he wasn't just some guy, he was a psyker second only to Big E himself as evident by when he psychically throttled Horus for being a prick and when he casually dusted himself off when Lorgar hit him so hard he flew into a wall and cracked it, still an absolute lad though
The weirdest thing about custodes has to be when they were in the room with the emperor they would all speak in turn with Big E and finish sentences. So big E would start talking and a stodes would continue the sentence and it would just pass through all of them the whole conversation. They also stop ageing or reverse age if they're past their prime when in Big E's company, so that says alot about him. He made them to be his friends.
A Thunder Warrior is a blunt instrument. A Space Marine is a finely tuned weapon. A Custodes is a Swiss Army Knife that includes everything from a sword to a particle accelerator, and everything in between.
41:58 Fun Fact: Corax (the ‘youngest’ of the Primarchs, by virtue of being the last found), was the only one who saw Horus (the ‘oldest’ of the Primarchs) as the desperate, attention seeking, glory hound, maniac that he was. Eventually resulting in Corax and the Raven Guard refusing to take orders from him.

"Do you know how hard it is to wash blood off this armor?" "Incredibly easy. We have a special compound that turns blood into polish. Best armor, amirite?"
The custodians are by far my favourite, the fact they don't go thru surgeries like marines they are grown genetically just shows how much more custom and superior to even marines.
From the day we’re born they are tested if they are genetically fit to continue to begin the process to become a custodian as they are essentially old terra aristocracy family blood
Im kind of imagining a sister of silence in a backpack attached to a Custodes back, Nezuko style, sitting there playing on a datapad. Also, Malcador please!
13:26 Actually, from a physical standpoint, the Thunder Warriors are utterly superior to Space Marines in terms of speed, strength and durability. One Thunder Warrior can take multiple Space Marines and hold his own, if not actually win. Note, the one who did that was physically less than his prime. Shoot, a TW killed a SM with a HEADBUTT and dodged a plasma bolt shot at him while he was fighting two Astartes.
Iirc the Astarte were better because: they didn’t all have essentially cancer from their implants, they are smarter, better at non combat related tasks and they were better at fighting in units.
The Thunder Warriors should have been given a mission to fight orks after unification. It would keep them busy, out of the way until they eventually died out from aging or attrition.
@sixgunsymphony7408 that would make sense, except the emperor was really petty. Maybe it was meant to honor them, but Big E named them astartes after Astarte the woman betrayed him saying it was a terrible idea, and gave his sons the rank/title primarch after the warmaster/cheif thunder warrior who he had valdor kill.
@@decium1846 honestly im not sure that petty even covers it, the emperor is petty incarnate, they claim he is order, but no he is stupidity and pettyness. pretty much everything he has done since the claimed the empire, was a good idea, done in the worst way possible, pretty much every plan on paper sounds good, but the execution was like a 2 yearold did them.
@@JW-452 Wow it's almost like Imperial dictatorships are bad because it consolidates to much decision making into the hands of a single fallible individual.
The custodes REALLY need a few good books to really rizz them and their confidence up. Maybe - ideally - retroactively explain some of the MASSIVE derps of the heresy.
There is. The Watchers of the throne series is 2 books at the moment and they do a amazing job showing just who the Custodes really are. It's focused on a Shield Captain, a Sister of Silence and the chancellor to the high lords. Set just before Guilliman returns to terra, He even arrives and speaks to the characters at the start of the second book. They're so good.
The custodes have no issue killing space marines, even primaris marines, that act up. They were on the way to deliver primaris reinforcements to the celestial lions chapter, but when they got there, the chapter was actively rebelling. They immediately detained the primaris aboard and very calmly told them just how lenient they are being by even letting them live. One thought he was the protag., got the rest slaughtered and the custodes just returned to Terra like nope not them.
if it was the Op with the Sister of Silence, it wasnt the Celestial Lions, it was the Brazen Drakes wich Primaris were done for after refusing the TWO chances to disarm themselves and live.
You fix the live action issue by not having people in 9ft armor. Make it proportional on the tallest stunt actor you have. Shoot battles in perspective and make the environment and enemies scaled down to make the SM or Custodes appear bigger. Its really that easy, look at how they made the hobbits appear so small in LoTR. The wagon scene at the beginning is amazing in how they made it happen.
Lord of the Rings did it perfectly I agree. It is probably the best way of doing it but I wonder if it’s a lot more expensive to do it that way. LOTR had an unprecedented budget and timeframe for making those movies. It might not be feasible for a series even if it is a big budget Amazon production.
The Wagon scene is comparatively easy, to a dynsmic scene where they will interact with each other. The Warhammer aesthetic also demands a LOT of wide shots, the Wagon scene relies on a lot of close shots. No, studios aren't "lazy", audiences just have no idea how difficult what they are asking is. Ever wondered why so very few pieces of media match the idea of W40k? It's difficult.
@@digitalarsenal5234 You should go re-watch the wagon scene and then watch the behind the scenes. Alien (1979), Alien vs predator, Halo Reach live action trailer, Halo 3 Live action (Land Fall), original Star Wars trilogy. There are tons of examples of things that have an equivalent match to Warhammer universe. It is 100% an issue of studios and executives rushing out mass garbage instead of taking the time and risks of a longer production. The problem they see with non green screen is it takes a year or 2 to make all the necessary sets and props to really sell things being live action. They don't want to wait, they want quick return on investments with as little out of pocket as possible.
I’d love to see Malcador and White Scars!! Also, for an upcoming poll, I’d love to see the Primarchs of the legions covered be pit, such as Sangy, Guilliman, etc etc!
23:58 - Thank you for phrasing it that way! The requirements of a Custodian are so stringent, they cannot risk not being at peak efficiency. It is too important to be that good or else Bad Things(TM) will happen. Love that their retirement plan is "go out into the galaxy and do shadow ops work."
Has there been a story that follows one pretending to be an ogryn? I remember reading about that being something the retired custodes might do but cannot think of an example.
@@henrypaleveda7760 There was a short story set during the Horus Heresy where a Custodes on a Blood Game infiltrates an abhuman workers camp around the palace. There called something slightly different but were essentially Ogryns.

I love the idea of Custodes just yoinking Iron Warriors out from a garrison and just releasing them into the Palace. The fact that Daddy Dorn made it being all the better.
Loving the idea of a Custodes noir anime. Old and grizzeled, none of the gear but using a cut down Autocannon as a pistol. In a bar, watching some young recuits he has as minons, with the occasional flash back to the Horus Heresy
45:50 the presence of Custodes worked most of the time if I remember correctly there were two incidents of note with the primaris one with a fleet of black templars that ended up killing all of their primaris and another one in which a fleet with primaris and custodes arrived at a space marine home planet to reinforce the chapter and found it corrupted by chaos, this lead to the custodes condemning the entire chapter including the new primaris, who had literally done nothing, in the end the custodes killed all the primaris who refused to be taken captive without at least first confirming what exactly happened to their firstborn brothers
The chapter was in a civil war and the shield captain leading the reinforcement fleet declared the whole chapter as traitors condemning them to death. The primaries captain of the reinforcements for the chapter, questioned the Custodes and tried ask while why was he condemning an entire chapter to death for the action of a few. in the end the Custodes shield captain also condemned the primaris marines to death for challenging him.
Remember, Custodes do not like, or trust the Astartes. Valdor told the Emperor they were a mistake who would betray him. In the end, half of them did just that. They basically see the other half, the Loyalists, as just as susceptible to Chaos. So when a chapter turns, it’s easy for them to say of their reinforcements “They are traitors, you have the same geneseed, you will turn traitor too.” And then kill them without compunction.
30:00 Alpharius also infiltrated the Golden Palace on Terra through the Custodes, murdered one, stole his armour and then got barely caught by Valdor and Malcador. He dueled Valdor and it was DAMN close only interrupted by the Hero. Also that was pre-Alpha Legion, pre-Omegon, and he was not even fully grown afaik. AND he had a plan B, an artillery piece was prepped to murder Big E if Alpharius failed and he pointed it out, that while he was caught, he would've still killed Big E. Bro styled on the defenses of Holy Terra. Makes sense Horus absolutely wanted Alphy-Boo on his side. And DID HE style on Holy Terra during the Siege of Terra, oh boy, just ask Dorn what happened to them statues.
13:26 little correction, the thunder warriors were stronger than astartes to the point the custodes actually struggled a little with their "retirement" (the brand new astartes had to jump in with a steel chair to finish the job). The emperor cranked the super-soldier formula as much as cheap as he could with these guys. The astartes are quite a bit weaker but less prone to super-cancer and khorne-like fits of violence, and more replicable than the custodes too, witch lets them work on the galactic span Big E needed in the crusade.
Yes, though Space Marines had one advantage in that they were smarter and better equipped, but a single Thunder Warrior could wreck like 5 space marines.
The one thing that kinda made me realize just how powerful the custodes are, is an account where one flicks a small stone at the head of a misguided ogryn, with such force that it sounds like a gunshot and kills it instantly.
a live action show of space marine scouts in the vein of training day, who only have 1 full astartes monitoring them till the end when something outside their scope of handling jumps into save them at the end showing the full gulf of difference between them and a true spacemarine would be amazing and justify saving on budget
In some of the older original sci-fi space series, such as Star Trek and Babylon 5, they kept the action down a lot and relied more on political interuige and debates. Also, most space battles were implied by showing the effects inside the ship until some of the later seasons.
I’m loving the classifications of the Custodies. Big Golden statues, Big Red Warning Sign, Amazon Prime, Crime novel detective with a trench coat painted on his massive oiled muscles. 😂
I love how the two big events that always get brought back almost every vídeo are the heresy and Bobby G being back, its só funny cause the Man woke up and the whole Galaxy went. "HOLY FUCK!" And "Hooooly fuuuuuuck" XD

I want a short of this guardsman who has the custody bodyguards following him about. He goes to pay for hemorrhoid cream at a shop and its just dead silence besides the *boop* when he scans it at self service, but it fucks up and requires an employee to approve it. So he's just standing there with 5 giant custodes behind him, always gently (but imposing) shifting to be out of his way, not blocking his view, but still somewhat enveloped within the group. They do not block the employee, but they equally don't move either. And as the employee is awkwardly asking for a manager over the intercom, one of the custodes stands forward, gently moves the woman aside and has to comically hunch over as he uses his extreme technological knowledge to override the machine and enter in his OWN managerial code (which the manager sees, contomplating if he has ever unknowingly hired a 9ft spy as a staff manager a Kmart). The custodes then all shuffle out with this guardsman as he awkwardly, but amicably, thanks the employees for thier help (zoom in to the screen as the clattering of footsteps slowly fades, as the employees look into it extremely concerned as the custode somehow swiped a staff loyalty card to get 15% off)

I vote white scars. Also, from what i know, the thunder warriors were smarter faster and stronger the the Astartes, but their implants began to be rejected by their bodies so they had limited life span. Which is why him killing them makes no sence, they were dead men anyway. Also also, some thunder warriors escaped, and the dude started a rebellion creating new thunder warriors, the world eaters showed up, and at a ratio of a dozen world eaters for 1 thunder warrior won because their was more of them. Later the same guy that started the whole thing and escaped the world eaters and made a cure for the gene death that was happend because of the thunder warriors bodies rejecting their implants. Fun fact: in the book The Birth of the Imperium there is one of the common soldiers reminiscing how he saw the Custodes a few times during the unification wars, and he straight up saw one kick a tank over like it was nothing. Reminder, the lighter Imperial tanks would fall into heavy and superheavy categories irl. A Leman Russ tank weighs around 60 tons. A Custodian can kick it over like a toy. They are no joke, every single one of them is a main character capable of slaughtering armies without experiencing a single injury. In the book The Emperor's Legion the main character Custodian is shown pretty early on hunting down a chaos space marine (as training) and he's literally thinking while getting attacked like "if this strike hit me it would barely leave a scratch on my armour, but that would be really pathetic of me if it hit me wouldn't it now" and he dodges the chaos enhanced space marine and executes him with a single perfectly aimed strike. Later in that book he is shown fighting several hundred space marines with like four other Custodes and less than a dozen Sisters of Silence, and they win. WIth great injuries, some are even fully killed, but they're literally standing on several hundred dead space marines alive by the end of this battle. Custodes are fucking insane. Also on the note of the eyes of the Emperor, I just want to point out a couple things. Firstly they're super human, that includes their senses, if a Custodian stays at a cheap motel he can perfectly tell who's having sex in which room when, how many people are involved, and how much did each one enjoy it. You ask them in the morning and they'll give you a perfectly accurate excel sheet. Next mankind is not just the basic humans anymore. Different worlds have different pressures and the long night saw a lot of natural selection among the survivors. The squats and the ogryn are the most well known, but there are dozens of legally accepted mutants, plus genetic modification is a legally obtainable thing, plus mechanical augmentation is also. Seeing an unreasonably huge guy moving around town is not that weird when you'll have a walking tank made out of steel snakes with six glowing red eyes and a giant essential oil diffuser in his back come fix your broken PC at work. The Custodes is of course smart enough to not show their more unusual physical capabilities to not rouse suspicion.

Malcador was just a guy who saved the Imperium and deserves an episode.
By the emperor malcador the hero was not just a man he was the chosen servant of our god-emperor
The Sigillite is much more than just a guy but I AGREE!
He was truly a Man and was loyal to us all..
Awwww. He had to make his own friends. That’s some beta shiz.
Fascinating
Yea I think that was because Horus got a metric fuck ton of Corax's marines dead from misusage.
@@Maxer4000 this unit of measure seems very large indeed
@@Maxer4000 > Let's use the Stealth Specialists with equipment SPECIAL-MADE FOR THEM AND THEIR SPECIALTY SKILLS in a frontal attack.
This was the moment I genuinely stopped respecting Horus in any way, shape, or form.
Order found does not dictate age lion el Johnson is the oldest primarch he was the first to be created and gifted the first legion created with his gene seed because of it and they literally call him older brother.
People say Custodes aren’t sneaky but Valdor snuck past an entire army in his full armor to get to someone then snuck out with a child
He is Primarch size too

Valdor was just build different XD
im new to 40k, where do i read this story?
@@zackblack1387 Master of Mankind (Novel) by Aaron Dembski-Bowden
I choose Malcador. Surprisingly enough, for how important of a character he is, a lot of people are just brushing the man to the side. He absolutely deserves an episode for himself
he stay in the shadow
I would pay money to have a book about Malcador and Big E being a sort of buddy cop. like I want to see emps and Malcador meet eachother on earth, fight eachother for a bit then it jump cuts to a bar where Big e and Mal are drinking both battered to hell
"Do you know how hard it is to wash blood off this armor?"
"Incredibly easy. We have a special compound that turns blood into polish. Best armor, amirite?"
'It's our preferred degreasing brand anyhow, oil spills are _FAR TOO ABUNDANT IN THIS PALACE'_
The custodians are by far my favourite, the fact they don't go thru surgeries like marines they are grown genetically just shows how much more custom and superior to even marines.
They are augmented, it's just almost magic.
I need art of that LMAO
13:26
Actually, from a physical standpoint, the Thunder Warriors are utterly superior to Space Marines in terms of speed, strength and durability.
We need a story of a retired custodes and a regular human travelling the Galaxy and getting into shennanigans together Felix and Gotrek style.
@@erikrungemadsen2081A story about a human getting guarded by currently active custodes, friends with a retired custodes would be funny

@@erikrungemadsen2081omg thats perfect
Literally every single video has you two dripped out to the max and spreading lore, it's fantastic
One thought he was the protag., got the rest slaughtered and the custodes just returned to Terra like nope not them.
if it was the Op with the Sister of Silence, it wasnt the Celestial Lions, it was the Brazen Drakes wich Primaris were done for after refusing the TWO chances to disarm themselves and live.
not the celestial lions
@@samofresh1 It's absolutely feasible, studios are just lazy nowadays. LotR needed to much time cuz of all the set building they did.
To be fair, they were talking about the Custodes' speed not size.
If there is stuff missing from beneath the Emperor's Palace, the first place I would check would be Trazyn's Gallery.
I need a gif of a kidnapped Iron Warrior standing in the middle of the emperor's Palace, just confused and paniced
If it didn't go against their indoctrination, they probably would've curled up somewhere and started crying.
Malcador deserves to be honored as his own episode! Glory to Malcador, the Hero of humanity!!!
Even though i already have an encyclopedic knowledge of 40k i really love watching your videos. you two have a very nice dynamic and i love the way Isyander sets the events into comedic context. Your perspective on 40k is incredibly entertaining and i genuinely consider you to be one of the best Warhammer lore channels out there.
Id also love to see an episode about the Death Korps and/or Ciaphas Cain
I love the idea of Custodes just yoinking Iron Warriors out from a garrison and just releasing them into the Palace. The fact that Daddy Dorn made it being all the better.
I love the Idea of a sitcom following a guardsman at Bootcamp and their 10 foot tall battlebuddy.
I like how you guys tell the Custodian lore in a refreshing way and not the same old cookie cutter way everyone else does. Good job.
Loving the idea of a Custodes noir anime. Old and grizzeled, none of the gear but using a cut down Autocannon as a pistol. In a bar, watching some young recuits he has as minons, with the occasional flash back to the Horus Heresy
45:50 the presence of Custodes worked most of the time if I remember correctly there were two incidents of note with the primaris one with a fleet of black templars that ended up killing all of their primaris and another one in which a fleet with primaris and custodes arrived at a space marine home planet to reinforce the chapter and found it corrupted by chaos, this lead to the custodes condemning the entire chapter including the new primaris, who had literally done nothing, in the end the custodes killed all the primaris who refused to be taken captive
without at least first confirming what exactly happened to their firstborn brothers

Also the best of the thunder warriors actually made Valdor work for the kill, and it wasnt just a beatdown, which is Insane given their shitty gear.
Well isyander and koda after a funeral is a good way to brighten up a day.

That's rough guardsman buddy
Deepest condolences, guardsman. Take care of yourself and those you love.
Don't worry guardsman, the Emperor protects... even in the afterlife

Honestly I just want all 4 of the options to get an episode
If i had a dime for every series that had +8 foot tall muscular spies clad in bullet proof armor/coat, I would have two which isn't a lot but weird it happened twice.
Also I'm talking about Mr.X in Resident Evil as the T-00 Tyrant was made to work as a spy and enforcer. Also part of why they could work is at a distance it's hard to gauge height, and let's say your friend ran up to you saying a tall man in a trench coat is following him wouldn't you just think he lost it. It's so out there that it works as a form of cover as it's so out there people will think it's fake.

Also Also also the 12:1 ratio was for the average thunder warrior, not counting Arik (the one who got away) who was one of the first thunder warriors

The White Scars are always forgotten as a Legion, can we give them the respect they deserve… maybe Malkador after.
25:55 „These men are my bodyguards, their lives forfeit to the guarantee of my physical safety. Of their loyalty to me there shall be no question nor doubt. I, and I alone, shall have the authority to stand in judgement over them. No other commander shall they have in battle nor in service. None shall bar them from me and none shall hamper or stall their mission. So it is decreed!“
