    one of my favorite movies of all time...
    "Can Ray come out?"
    "He's not allowed outside until he resembles the man I married!"
    "Aw, come on, Carol... We don't have that kind of time!"
    fantastic writing.

    3:31 It was also used for "Fright Night" from 1985, and "Deadly Friend," 1986.

    Well seeing as I searched for this movie and review, The 'Burbs is def one of my favorites. I liked the way Corey Feldman's character was in sort of a "safe zone" from all the craziness. I especially liked the bit with him inviting all of his friends and then ordering pizza. It's a cool contrast of soft suburbia next to mild "horror."

    The Burbs had a profound impact on my former house mate and myself. We found Hank's overacting to be ridiculously hilarious and how his best friend is a scumbag. And how Corey Feldman was meant to be some "cool dude" but came across like a total poser. We used catchphrases from the film constantly and even called the weird family next door to us The Clopeks. A real classic.

      @Inside Barry's Mind Old enough to have owned it on a format called video tape. That was purchased as an ex-rental from a something called a video shop.

      @@DrCash7 That 's the Corey Feldman emoji. I Bet he surfs to the shops every day, buys a six pack and struts home in a tank top, pointing at people on the street like "Yo, Mr Peterson 😎".

    Great movie! I will also point out that the creepy old man (Reuben Klopek) is played by Brother Theodore, whose most famous role was probably the voice of Gollum from the 1977 animated adaption of The Hobbit

      That surprised me as well. I’ve watched it on Amazon prime before and have seen it on Hulu so I thought it was still easy to find online and actually said so in my initial recording until I went back to check while editing and realized that it has since been taken off all platforms. Really strange for a Tom Hanks film released by a big company like Universal Studios. Hopefully whatever the problem is gets sorted out soon.

    Mike Nichols' underrated _Wolf_ (1994) is the one I keep going back to. A gothic, contemporary take with a sharp wit.
    Robert Fuest's art deco-style _The Abominable Dr. Phibes_ (1971) is a tongue-in-cheek, comic book horror fave.
    And _Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein_ (1948) is legitimately amazing.

    • @JoshuaSutlive
      @JoshuaSutlive  Год назад +1

      Fantastic picks! Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein pretty much wrote the book on how to do a horror comedy. Wolf is one that I don't hear too much about but as a big Mike Nichols fan, I really enjoyed seeing him approach a Werewolf movie. I haven't seen The Abominable Dr. Phibes yet but it's definitley going on my list!

      I used to let that get to me, but I just try to decouple real life Tom Hanks from the characters he plays. And anyway, he's not _that_ bad. Robert De Niro is a lot worse.
