The look on Tom Hanks face when he forces himself to eat the Klopecs snacks....omg. And then the one guy says, "Except Walter...we don't know where the hell he is."
This is honestly my absolute favorite Hank's comedies. He was great and so were The Klopek's, Art was hilarious and Lt. Rumsfield is my spirit animal. You either love this movie... or you're wrong!
No doubt. This movie is an evolutionary litmus test. Anyone who doesn't love it is sub-human. This isn't a matter of opinion. I can prove this theory on an etch-a-sketch...
The Burbs! Great movie, with lots of brilliant one liners! “It came with the frame.” “Sardine?” And my favourite, “Hey! Pinocchio!” 😂 Underrated movie!
"YO, RUMSFIELD!". I had neighbors once that I referred to as the Klopeks. No one went in, no one came out, no pick ups, no deliveries. Saw the son, who was a ginger that looked just like Hans. I only saw him sitting on his carport at night. He was so pale he nearly glowed in the dark. And yes, I did wonder what they were eating over there.
The Burbs is a classic that was never meant for film critics or to get great reviews. It's one of those lazy weekend day films when you just want to watch something hilarious, with some mystery to it and tons of memorable quotes. It especially resonates with people who grew up in the Burbs and had some whacky neighbors and/or that odd house on the street that everyone talked about. It is very nostalgic for me and just feels like comfort food when I put it on. Rumsfield and Art have probably the most quotable lines. Great flick!
I liked The Burbs! Funny story and a really great cast! This movie deserved way more success...! Rick Ducommon as Art Weingartner was my favourite in this movie!
Ken Mabie Lets see how you handle being bipolar smart ass. Let us know when you come out from behind your keyboard. Maybe both your balls will have dropped by then.
Two other little facts about this film: there are two different versions - one that most people know and one where Cory Feldman has a larger role - talking to camera - and has the nightmare scene removed. The role of the neighbour was originally written for John Candy - when you watch it next - picture Candy in this role and you will totally get it.
Nothing but Trouble is hot garbage. Come on people! You can't be serious! I mean yea, Demi looks amazing in that little white romper, and John Candy has a few funny scenes. But otherwise it's just dumb and even worse, super gross. Even Taylor Negron and Tupac can't save that movie!
I wonder how often people will watch a movie shortly after watching one of Minty's "Ten Things You Didn't Know" videos about it. I know i have more times than I can count.
Best movie ever! Watch when art is eating breakfast with ray. He reaches into the dogs food and eats a handful and looks at mrs Peterson like she fixed nasty food lol
Philip Malaby - if u watch the movie watch for when Carrie Fisher is standing next to the table holding a food dish that she sets on the floor for the dog
Ray looks out the kitchen window in the beginning and asks Carol if she thinks the klopecs name is slavic. Then later on Rumfield asks rueb if the name is slavic.
Then he said, "Could you imagine me and the two of them alone for the weekend? Oh no.. I rather chew broken glass." Then the next scene in the garage he's asking Ray if he wants to go down to the deli and get a beef sandwhich.. lol

I didnt understand why none of my school friends never heard or watched it. I got this film when I was that young, the humour and what it was ... but I am glad now people are now noticing what a great film it is. Still my fav Tom Hanks film along with Big.
I would enjoy some Minty insights on the 1981 'Neighbors' starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. It is an oddball of a movie, very funny and extra strange!
It was creepy and the book , more so. The author also wrote Little Big Man which was both a good film and a good book. And then he did a Arthurian novel, no one was stupid enough to make a movie of that mess.
Yes indeed. Many people have forgotten that movie which is also one of the funniest I've ever seen. Like The Burbs it had to do with shady neighbors and it was also completely shot in one location. John Belushi's last movie.
I love The Burbs, its always been one of my favorite movies and Tom Hanks is hilarious in it. I mean Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Corey Feldman, Bruce Dern and Rick Ducommun. Awesome cast.
I remember watching this movie on VHS. I really loved it. It’s got that nostalgia for me. Did this movie ever have a theatrical release? I never remember any advertisement for it on television otherwise I’m sure my dad would have took me out to see this movie. Perhaps it came out the same time as Batman. If so then it was definitely overshadowed. I feel the 80’s went out with a bang during 1989 in cinemas with all the great movies that were released. Seems the Burbs came out at the same time as Bill and Ted. I believe it was the only movie that may have been a contender. I saw about 5 movies in theaters that year of which I saw 3 in one month. Batman, Ghostbusters 2, honey I shrunk the kids. I feel that year was the most nostalgic year for me in my life for movies
This is a great underrated comedy movie made in 1989 when Tom Hanks was still primarily known as a comedy actor. I have watched this a dozen times since and purchased the Arrow Special Edition a few years back which features a lot of extras aswell a special extended version taken exclusively from Joe Dante VHS copy. It didn't do well on release but has gained a cult following over the years and recently hit its 30th Anniversary last year.
Hey Minty, thanks much for doing this video. I first saw this excellent, albeit kind of odd movie at the drive-in (y'all remember those?) when I was a kid. As I recall, the film on the reel melted or snapped with only like the last 5 or 10 minutes of the movie remaining. People went nuts! Honking horns and yelling at the projection booth to fix it so we could see the ending. We can be pretty certain this was not a good time for the projectionist. However, after some time frantically working on it they did eventually get it to work, thus allowing us closure. This has always been an enjoyable film. Still like it, wish I had a copy of my own.
Yes! I love this movie! Thank you! Such great nostalgia. I knew it was the neighborhood from desperate housewives but i didnt know that Queenie was Precious from Silent of the lambs. Enriching my movie watching experience. Awesome!

I was 12 when this movie came out and the owner of a local $1 theater lived next door to me and would let me come there and clean up after shows in exchange for free movies, popcorn and soda. Can't begin to impart upon you just how much of an experience it was watching so many fun movies out of the late 80s and early 90s in a 712 seat theater. Such an experience! So much fun! Algonquin (real name Binny)
The dog Elvira inherits in the movie Elvira, Mistress of the Dark; about famed horror hostess Elvira who goes to a stuffy New England town to claim her inheritance of a haunted house.
BREED: Poodle YEARS: Movie: 1988.
So no they aren't the same dog
Elvira = Larkin Love. Let's see if anyone gets the name ;-)
Also yes I do know it was Cassandra Peterson playing Elvira.
No, I think Gonk was a male. Much larger
Oh and another thing I don't see today that happened often then, was our ticket seller having to put up the sold-out sign. Night after night, showing after showing.
I think we saw this like 20 times at the dollar theater... It's a great classic!!
Writers: We are worth more and demand more!
Movie: Was great because of the lack of writers.
Question for everyone favourite Tom Hanks movie truthfully?
Ryan Speer Big and Forrest Gump. It’s a tie
Big. For me. I thought it was awesome.
@Sami Hag Big and Turner and Hooch for me.
Has to be this one for me
@Sami Hag yh I understand and the green mile is good
I love this movie and all the 80s comedy/feelgood films that were light and bright, and the music in the burbs is brilliant. Corey Feldman made alot of good choices in the 80s when it come to picking film scripts.
Many thanks for featuring the superb Rush classic "Subdivisions" in this video!
