    FAQ's:
    Q: My Key Cap will not click down in place correctly. Whats wrong?
    A: If the key assembly is not installing correctly, its either due to a component being damaged and needing to be replaced or a component not being orientated correctly. I would remove the key assembly and check for damage. If damage is found, replace the assembly. If no damage is found or you are unsure, try to install again. For help with the orientation, I sometimes remove another key cap, and compare the hinge clip to the one I'm trying to install. If you cant install after several tries, the key assembly is most likely damaged and needs to be replaced.
    Q: The Retainer Clip is not staying down on the Keyboard.
    A: If the Retainer Clip is not fitting into place, there are a few possible reasons. The Retainer Clip could be damaged and not able to fit in correctly. The Retainer Clip may not be assembled correctly or not orientated correctly. Or the the metal pins on the Keyboard are damaged or bent out of place and not able to fasten the Retainer Clip down properly.
    Q: Where can I purchase replacement keys?
    A: If any part of the key is damaged or broken, you will have to replace it. I usually get my keys on Ebay or www.replacementlaptopkeys.com. If you cannot find a loose key for sale, you may have to purchase a keyboard and take a key from there.
    Q: I have a Key or Keys that are not working. Will this fix them?
    A: This video is a tutorial on how to replace a key. If your keys are not working but are not mechanically broken, troubleshoot them as seen here; • How To Fix Troubleshoo... .
    Q: The hinge clip came apart into two pieces. How can I reassemble?
    A: They fit together with a small plastic pin on the left and right of the inner clip. These fit into holes on the outer clip. To see exactly how the inner clip sits in the outer clip, remove another key cap and copy the clip under it.
    Q: The rubber spring came off. How do I reattach it?
    A: There isnt really a good way to reattach those. They are not meant to be replaced. Best advice is try to use a small amount of glue. If that does not work, you may have to replace the keyboard.
    Q: My Key Cap came off but the Retainer Clip is still attached. What do I do?
    A: Because they key can usually not be reinstalled with the Retainer Clip and the Key Cap still attached to each other, you would have to separate them as seen here, using a small flat pry tool.

      If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged. Remove the Cap and inspect for damage or that its not laying down flush and properly snapped in itself. Compare to another Clip if needed by removing another Cap.

    You just saved my day!
    A piece of chocolate found its way beside the key and it was stuck. I opened it rather carelessly with a knife and the mechanics jumped out. This worked well for all my earlier notebooks. Fortunately nothing was broken. Putting things together was not that easy. First clipping the mechanics onto the upper metal pins did not work, perhaps I bent the pins during removal or trying to press down the mechanics. But in the end I carefully lifted the lifted pins into position with a screw driver and then I could simply clip it in again. Fazit: Make sure the clips are in the right position before pressing down the mechanics.

    Thank you very much for this instruction. I searched first in my own language, but the results were full of information garbage and completely on the wrong types of laptops with different keyboards. Then I decided to search in English and found your video.
    I bought a laptop of the same model range from a local classifieds site (used but in good condition) and after a few days my D key crumbled. It turned out that the carriage was damaged, just in the middle where both parts connect, it was broken off "mustache" (pin). I had to swap with some other key that I use the least. And there was just completely torn off the rubber key, this silicone "tubercle" (boob), and this problem had to be solved using thin double-sided tape. Now the key is pressed very tightly, but at least it works like that.
    After a short time, a similar problem arose with two other keys. One just falls out periodically from a light touch.
    Damn Lenovo engineers! The keys on this laptop are impossibly delicate and fragile. Is it because of one damaged key that it is proposed to buy and replace the entire keyboard, with disassembly of the entire laptop? Very stupid move by the company.
    And the very delicate plastic of the laptop case itself, scratches and crumbles like plasticine.

    Thank you - this helpful video explained to me why I broke the plastic clip below the S key (i was trying to clean under it) on my Thinkpad P1 by removing it incorrectly. While replacing it with a new clip though I tried several times unsuccessfully to follow the instruction at 4:00 which is to snap the bottom holes of the clip into the bottom pins first and then the top holes into the top pins. Looking at it through a magnifying glass I realized that the top pins are hooks pointing towards the screen. So I tried it in reverse which was to hook the top holes in the clip around the top hooks and then the bottom holes quickly snapped into place.

    Hi, thanks for the video. I was able to replace the "N" on my son's laptop. I'm now having an issue with the "N" repeating "nnnnnn..." the up-and-down action on the keep seems fine and doesn't appear to be physically sticking. This issues doesn't happen all the time and sometimes tapping the "N" will stop the problem. The key does appear to be a little more depressed than the other keys on the keyboard. Is there a way to adjust the key so this issue will stop? Thanks!

    I watched this video so that I could interchange my keys. I was tired of being borrowed my laptop every other time. FYI, most of them borrowers aren't touch typists. They end up returning it immediately. 🤣🤣🤣
    (I don't have a warranty, so I could do as I wished)

    Hello, good tutorial. I just have one question ¿do you have any tutorial to help me replace key cap + hinge for Lenovo Thinkbook 14 keyboard?

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  22 дня назад

      Not for that specific model, no :( However, all keys are generally the same. If you get the concept of this video, it should help you remove and / or install any keyboard key. Is there a specific part you would like assistance with?

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  Год назад

      1. Do the keys feel like they are physically fine or do they feel like they have something mechanically wrong with them?
      2. Also, did anything happen before this issue appeared? Liquid spill, overheating, Windows update, etc?

    Hey man, firstly, thanks so much for the video. My cat decided to scratch and damage + 4 of the number keys on the right hand side numpad on my Legion 5 Pro. I never use the numpad so it wasn't too big of a deal but I decided to buy replacement keys which also came with spare springs and retainer clips. I had trouble fixing them so I left it hanging for a while. I found your video again and decided to give it a try and it worked for 3 keys. However for one of the keys, the spring actually came off. I'm not sure if I wasn't being careful or because the clip was exposed for months, the glue weakened. What can I do instead?
    Additionally, I have problems with some other keys as well which being W, Q and D. Those keys are much more important and it was affecting normal use. So I decided to call up Lenovo and since I had a Legion Ultimate support, I was being offered to get a free replacement of the entire keyboard INCLUDING the palmrest (which had gotten dark in some spots due to me resting my palm all the time). Unfortunately, because 4 of my numkeys were damaged, and that falls under user inflicted damage, they couldn't proceed with the keyboard replacement and I was really pissed. If I manage to get my keys fixed (3 are done, just 1 left) and contact them again, do you think its safe to let them do the free replacement for me if they don't remember from before? The keys and clips look pretty much the exact same. I'm not sure if thats a really dumb idea, and I don't wanna get into any legal trouble or get my warranty fully void.
    Sorry for the long message.

    i dont know if youll see tis, but will this work for my "delete" key? i was using my lapotop, i didnt drop it or damage it in any way, i noticed the delete key was tilted a little, i touched it and suddenly the key popped out of place ..

      Im not sure what you mean by 'will this work'. This is a tutorial showing how to remove a key and how to install a key. So I would install the key as seen here. If the key does not install correctly, it may be damaged. Inspect it for damage. If damage is found, I would then replace the key and then install the new one as seen here

      @@MostafaMahmoud-ko7pd If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged. Remove the Cap and inspect for damage or that its not laying down flush and properly snapped in itself. Compare to another Clip if needed by removing another Cap.

    This was close, but not quite, for mine (Thinkpad T480s). The 2 plastic pieces under the key behaved a little differently and needed to be held together then seated EXACTLY at the right spot. The the key on top had a pin on each side that had to be inserted, and THEN the magic press down to click the key into the plastic set and finally attached. Phew!

    I don't know if you are still checking this but I thought I'd ask for advice.
    I need to reinstall my space key. I can easily get the 2 metal bars positioned. The top clicks easily but the bottom only clicks to the plastic key in the middle but not at the ends. Any suggestions?

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  8 месяцев назад

      Either the hinge clip is damaged, not orientated correctly, or the metal pins on the keyboard are bent out of place and wont allow it to snap in correctly. Those are the most likely issues

    So I have a lenovo Legion, key looks similar to the one on the video, my issue is that the key keeps falling off as I press it, when it comes off I can put back and it snaps into position, but then after a few taps as I type it falls off again... what can I do to fix this?

    • @SilentSlyProductions
      @SilentSlyProductions 3 года назад

      @@fazolan2943, have you fixed it yet? I have a solution that I have worked for me greatly.
      First, learn how to remove the key safely, including the clip that stays attached to the key itself.
      Next, for the key that is bad, remove it and detach it from the plastic that stays attach to it when it comes off.
      Then, choose another key in your keyboard that you do not use as much. For me, I chose F9.
      The good key that you chose remove it as well, and also detach the plastic that is attached to the key.
      Finally, switch those plastics that are attached to those keys and use the good one on the key that you use often, and use the bad one on the key that you chose that you don't use as much, and put the keys back together.
      I used this method, and I don't even use the F9 key at all, so it hasn't come off. What I do suggest though, is to practice removing it with the bad key before you remove a good key. I really hope this helps.

      I usually get my keys on Ebay or www.replacementlaptopkeys.com. If you cannot find a loose key for sale, you may have to purchase a keyboard and take a key from there.
