Psychiatry and cunnilingus got us here 👍🏻
Gets you a lot of places really
June 19th is the 11th anniversary of James Gandolfini's death.
R.I.P., Tony.
Tony was a monster. The world is a better place without them. The fact we have to interact with them is a cross we must unfortunately bear, right? Regarding James, I don't know much about him. He became wealthy and famous playing the monster Tony ...
@@markemerson8399grow up. It’s acting. James was said to be a great guy and was loved by eveyrone in his life. Literally look at the funeral pictures. He was REAL person. Don’t disrespect him
@@justbeyondmythoughts James became wealthy and famous playing the monster Tony, am I right? Playing means acting, right? When you grew up did you get an education?
So sweet that Mary thinks that was "dad energy" and not "I will break your face against the alley wall energy."
I live for these, thank you SO SO much. I know its hard with the YT gods staring violently down at your channel. We appreciate it.
The Sopranos the best tv show on hbo history .👍🇺🇸🇮🇹🇲🇽
I think that moment where Meadow and Carm lock eyes is powerful.
In case you read the comments, last episode Francis Albert reference was to Frank Sinatra, a famous Italian American from New Jersey
In fairness a loss of reputation could result in a loss of life, it isn't quite the overreaction it would be for a FedEx driver or accountant and their girlfriend.
Tony, given His position in the firm should not have provoked unkle jun out of respect.Old school "u know what you know, but you keep what you know to yourself" Tony failed in doing that .
@@paddyofurniture705 yeah but to be fair Tony only did it because Junior hurt his feelings with that baseball remark.
21:15 The girls down at the beauty parlor discussing their sex lives if certainly an American trope- It's also a thing for college age women to have a close circle of friends who all know each other's business. (sometimes that's a sorority, sometimes it's just a group of friends) I couldn't tell you if it's as common as American men think it is, but it does exist.
😢"I didn't hurt noone"
Totally enjoyed your reaction! And I’m so down with these being on Wednesdays.
Every time you start to like or have sympathy for a main character in The Sopranos, the writers remind you that these guys are all sociopaths.
We saw it when Tony took time out to commit murder when he was travelling with his daughter. There might be a lot of examples coming in future episodes.
Clipping is killing
Uncle Juns in the muff
Did he just dive in or did he ease his way in?
Odd & little known mob rule about oral sex. All because it’s a sign you might be gay & being gay in the mob is an automatic death sentence. So is seeing a therapist. Getting mental help means you must be giving away family secrets & that’s a guaranteed death sentence.
In short Tony & Jr have something on each other that’s punishable by death. That’s why they are taking this so seriously.
You are doing to see a TON of things Breaking Bad borrowed, paid homage, or took inspiration from in The Sopranos.
Vince Gilligan is probably the biggest Sopranos fan on Earth and I dont blame him
I live in a small town I was a teacher and my brother just retired from teaching and we know a guy nobody would ever have believed it about get 10 years for statutory rape of a jr high girl. Probably about 13-14 years old.
Miscarriage of justice. Sad. It happens.
"wheat field" because she is blonde
Hi Mary, these people are monsters under the microscope of analysis.
Falling in love with them is folly, however we can understand why people enjoy the analysis. Would love to see a realistic analysis of good people, role models, etc. I wonder how American story writers would characterise such people?
You don’t see Dr Melfi as a good person?? Or Meadow?? Or AJ?? Or Artie & Charmaine?? The show is a deep analysis of good vs evil. Only show I’m aware of that teaches you why someone like Tony exists in the world.
Everyone always asks how people like Hitler or Charles Manson or anyone can kill without any remorse whatsoever. This show explains it & answers correctly why & how evil exists. And by extension how & why there’s good in the world.
This episode described in detail the odd rules & behavior of mob sex life. It doesn’t even make sense in the real world. But it’s mob culture & code & the penalty for violating mob codes of conduct is death.
@@gregsgoogle2947 Great comment Greg. However, for me the show makes monsters likeable. Do we like Dr Melfi as much as Tony, and Christopher? Making gangsters likeable is a part of American story telling. American kids admire the gangsters life, until they commit crimes and are imprisoned.
I'm more interested in how really good people function, their psychological views, how they interact, etc. I would love to see how American storytellers would characterise such people.
@@markemerson8399 The writing deliberately tries to charm viewers into caring about mobsters to trap them into facing difficult moral questions themselves. In this episode most viewers instincts hoped Tony had the coach killed & were shocked he used law enforcement instead. Anyone who wants a mobster to sometimes hand down civilian justice needs to examine their own conscience. A “Tony” type acting as judge, jury, & executioner is the end of a free society. The lure to see evil as sometimes useful because it’s easier is the trap the writers are setting viewers up for. The show is really a big Rorschach test on the viewers. (Tony eluded to that test back when a Melfi office painting bothered him.)
In fact all Sopranos reactors risk being morally judged by possible exposing their moral failings as they react to events. The reactor (or any viewer) is the one sitting in Melfi’s office. Not Tony. He’s the bait. In essence Tony & friends & all their situations are the ink blots in this Rorschach test. “Here’s some images of Tony... describe what you see.”
Most reactors fail the test & either lose a lot of their audience or bail out on the series because they figure this out eventually... that they are being morally judged by how they react to Tony’s world. Very few reactors finish the series. I’m guessing Mary won’t because these moral dilemmas get gut wrenching intense & deep. Plus she’s not even 10% thru it. She’s going so slow she will have noticeable aged before she gets close to finishing.
Yes so far I like Melfi more than any character. Without her rationally explaining the truth about Tony’s choices this show would just be another pointless mob violence show. Melfi typically is the one that drops the truth bombs & gets the viewers reoriented to reality. Others do too. Once in a blue moon Tony utters an intelligent thought.
@@gregsgoogle2947 Greg, for me I see the series developing upon the basis that the writers have hit a formula that's popular among viewers. I see the mobsters as monsters portrayed as likeable characters. Viewers like Tony.
The psychological analysis is an interesting twist.
@@markemerson8399 They did but the formula isn’t feeding viewers mindless violence to glorify mob life. The opposite is true. The writers set up situations to deliberately confound the viewers expectations... like Tony not killing a civilian soccer coach everyone agrees committed a mortal sin.
The psychology analysis isn’t a twist... it’s the central theme. It explains the root of evil. And its not all tied to Melfi explaining it either. The dream sequences are a look into the subconscious of an evil mind & how they see things very different than a mentally healthy person does. Christopher’s nightmare about killing Email is an example.
When the show aired viewers regularly got very upset when their expectations of what they think should happen didn’t. The backlash was so intense it made the news sometimes. Have to watch this show with an open mind & don’t expect anything ever. Treat it like you’re on a rollercoaster ride for the 1st time. Just let events unfold & think them over before passing judgment.
Clipped means killed. Come on ,forget about it.....
The scene at the end, we could see it in many different ways. I think Tony was sad and hurt that he couldn't actually hurt someone that trully deserved it. Contrary to other times where he was doing it for business. So it screwed him up inside.
Did Tony call off the hit because he took some good advice to heart?? Maybe he just came to his senses because it would have been a terrible mob decision to kill a well known civilian.
The mob can’t get involved in civilian justice. Society would never stand for it. This coach was a high profile beloved (at the time) citizen. If he just disappears one day there will be a major investigation until that crime gets solved. Tony can’t risk that just because his daughter was on the team.
Be different if Meadow was a victim. A mob family boss would sanction a hit on a civilian if the victim was from a made family. But Tony isn’t even really a boss. He doesn’t get to decide who the family kills. Junior would have to approve of this move.
Oh no- the OJ joke went right over her head. I don’t know of that makes me old or her very European. Probably both.
I'm 63 and I've never heard of anyone thinking less of a guy for doing what Junior was doing. Maybe it's an Italian thing or a mob thing. Perhaps it's just viewed as generally submissive?
It’s a mob rule. Being gay is a guaranteed death sentence in the mob.
It's more of a ridiculous machismo thing. Italians in general don't have that attitude. I think your last sentence hits it on the head - anything other than being the epitome of masculinity is a sign of weakness, and the others will home in on it mercilessly.
Many years ago it was true in some circles about Jr not wanting people to know about pleasing a woman "like that" when I was young and in the Marines black guys especially would never admit to doing that for a woman. We had a drill instructor once, right before graduation because they never talked to us during boot camp, but he said, "my theory is, if you eat a --le you will eat a po--".
Please continue with the Star Trek franchise.
She doesn’t need to continue with Star Trek
@@brysonfreeman7226 for real, nobody wanna watch that shit
NERD!
I really like the Sopranos, but I think the first season is the weakest and this episode and the next one "a hit is a hit" are the lowest point of the entire series. They knew what the season finale would be but ran out of ideas to reach 13 episodes. So episode 9 and 10 are just fillers. Didn't have the budget to film in Boca Raton, no problem, no exterior, let just pretend Corado is in Florida.
First season...you get a pass for that...
