    What a blessing to have Dr. White preach in your church. He's helped me learn so much and he doesn't even know me! He's had a massive impact on my life. I thank God for his ministry and the ministry of Apologia Church.

    Pastor James, that was an excellent sermon and I can't wait until next week's sermon. Hebrews never made much sense to me until a few years ago when I started learning more about the customs from the old Testament. I will spend time listening to your other sermons on Hebrews this week to try to get up to speed, so to speak. Thank you.

    White made one mistake I noticed. There was a place to sit in the Holy of Holies, the mercy seat (Lev 16:2, et al.). Until Christ, however, it would have been preposterous for a High Priest to sit in this seat. I think that is why Christ sitting after finishing his work is so significant (Heb 10:12). The writer of Hebrews is telling us that Jesus has the standing to sit on God's own throne.

    In the words of CS Lewis that was red beef and strong beer! (Pardon the alcohol reference I’m not sure your stance, or Lewis’ for that matter lol obviously drunkenness is a sin) Oh how I wish there was a church like this near my home, but alas southern Baptist will have to do, at least they teach the same in regards to baptism, the supper, and the sovereignty of God, if not the same in regards to election. At least we have a based pastor, who even though keeps the tradition of invitation/alter call and sinners prayer alive, makes sure to qualify that it must be genuine, repentant faith and not some magic words. And hey, my Sunday school teacher likes John MacArthur! Lol

      If the last thing you do before you die is sin, that’s not what sends you to hell. We don’t hold to some confessional idea like the Roman Catholics. The reason why suicide is bad fruit is that it’s an act of complete hopelessness and lack of faith in God’s provision, whereas a Christian is literally someone who has hope. I’d say it’s impossible for somebody who is transformed by Christian beliefs and thoughts to commit suicide out of abject despair. Exceptions prove the rule. Someone could theoretically do it in a moment of weakness like with any other sin but I would not offer anybody hope on this point. And a decision to jump on a grenade or stay behind and blow up the building when the enemy captures you is not a suicide of despair

      Fundamentally it’s the view that there are earthly promises to ethnic Israel which still remain unfulfilled and will be fulfilled in the millennium, which occurs after a 7 year tribulation which is equivalent to Daniel’s 70th week. Before this, the church is removed from earth in the rapture, because the tribulation Is God’s wrath on the earth and the bride is not appointed to suffer wrath, but will be in heaven having the wedding feast. These are the basics. There are heretical versions (eg those who say Jews can be saved by following Judaism) just as there are heretical versions of the other eschatologies (full preterism, NAR etc).
      In context when he said they’re not dispensational, with reference to God’s law, he means that because dispensationalism makes a sharp break between the old and New Testament, it does not tend to put much thought into the relevance of the mosaic law to Christians. Presbyterians think it’s still in play, and only the ceremonial aspects are abolished by Christ. Reformed Baptists don’t see the Old and New covenant as the same covenant but consider the moral law to be separate from the covenant, and carried over. Dispensationalists and New covenant theology sees the whole law as abolished, or at least not applicable to Christians, and thus are more prone to disregard it, whereas the other two viewpoints are more prone to legalism or continuing practices which shouldn’t be, eg the infant baptism, and possibly sabbatarianism (that’s one Of the major debates)

    I am not arguing whether one should be immersed or sprinkled (Baptism is a sign)....but I do find it strange that reformed teachings of old understood the Scriptures differently when it is said........ THEY WENT DOWN INTO THE WATER........ To me it is pretty plain that that incident no where says they went UNDER the water.........But Honestly I am not here to give a teaching on it. I have no energy for that.

      Heh, yeah. It's simply a matter of physics. Gravity pulls water to the lowest spot it can reach, and if there isn't a wall holding it, it will overflow. That means a natural body of water is going to be physically lower than the land the humans are at. Thus "down" is the direction you have to go to access the water and "up" is the direction you go when you are done with it. Nothing to do with immersion. It especially amuses me when Baptists point to Philip and the Ethiopian yet miss that _both_ Philip and the Eunuch went "down to" and "up from" the water, and yet they don't immerse or rebaptize the minister when baptizing.

      Of course we do, but baptism comes after a profession of faith, so in our limited capacity as humans, that’s the best we can do without knowing the mind and hearts of other men

    I have been reading and listening to arguments for infant baptism. So far, I find them strange. I’m so used to a particular consistency in reformed arguments. So, it is jarring to see them so inconsistent and, often, self-defeating. Also, most Calvinist dispensationalists are covenantal. They just adhere to the literal covenants mentioned in Scripture.

    • @therockstar17

      I agree, it doesn’t make sense. Just like he said, circumcision didn’t save you, you still had to have faith in God. So why would infant baptism save you.

    What is the one baptism of our faith according to the Apostle Paul in Eph. 4:1-5? How many times is the word “Spirit” found in the passage, and how many times is the word “water” found?
    Eating Kosher is not unbiblical, but it is not required under the New Covenant. Circumcision of male children is not unbiblical, but it is not required under the New Covenant. Trimming your beard according to the Law of Moses is not unbiblical, but it is not required under the New Covenant. Water baptisms were a part of the Old Covenant, but they are not required under the New Covenant. The proof is found below. John baptized with water. Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit. Which one is related to salvation, based on Romans 8:9?
    .
    Heb. 9:10 (YLT) only in victuals, and drinks, and different baptisms, and fleshly ordinances-till the time of reformation imposed upon them . (Old Covenant ------> New Covenant)
    .
    Eph 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
    Eph 4:2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
    Eph 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
    Eph 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
    Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
    (What is the one baptism of our faith here, based on Eph. 1:12-13, and 1 Cor. 12:13?)
    .
    Eph 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
    Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
    .
    1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
    1Co 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
    .
    Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
    .
    Act 11:15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
    Act 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
    .
    Act 1:5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
    Mar 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
    Mar 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
    Mar 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (See Mark 1:8)

    Anyone can catch a football in you're own front yard with no defenders but do it in a game is another matter. James White has been offered a public debate with members of the churches of Christ to no avail. I personally think that Bruce Reeves of Conway Ar would be an excellent debate..
    It went on deaf ears.
    I pray that Calvinism will see the baptism of the bible. God bless

    Theology wars are a prideful thing.

    • @nando7522
      @nando7522 2 года назад +8

      Calling debates and discussions amongst brothers a war is a bit over exaggerated. It's like men are no longer allowed to disagree (even strongly) without it being seen as all out war.
      I reject that idea and further call out those who play the middle as the ones being prideful and even cowardly.
      Can people get filled with pride in their theological stances? Yes. This is not however the fault of the theology or the willingness to stand firm for that theology. Instead it is the fault of the human heart which can grab ahold of anything and corrupt it with pride.
      By the way: the idea that it is better to not debate and discuss secondary matters IS a theological stance. This would mean according to the standard you're pushing that this third way is also prideful. I agree as stated above.

      So reading and studying how the true God has revealed Himself is prideful?

    • @oracleoftroy
      @oracleoftroy Год назад

      I find these sorts of comments are usually due to a wounded pride for not being able to disagree in a mature way. I come from the other side of this debate, and I while I disagree with White as a Reformed (non-Baptist) Christian, I don't think he is prideful at all. He is arguing with boldness and confidence, and there is nothing wrong with that despite what the world says. And even though I disagree with his conclusions, I appreciate that he is attempting to be solidly Biblical in his approach. I benefit to learn what other Christians believe and why and it challenges my assumptions and points to areas I haven't thought about as fully.
