That was never going to be the name of the game. It was going to be the name of a storyline inside the game as the idea of Vincent was to make him some sort of paranormal detective. Good thing they changed that.. I agree about ff12. Apparently the main character for the game WAS going to be Basch but they changed it because really girly looking guys were/are really popular characters in Japan so they created Vaan just for that. It's really obvious though after about 3 hours of playing that he has nothing to do with the plot and he's just there for the ride. Don't even get me started on Penelo lol

Only she wouldn't have looked like the original princess Garnet, but considering that Queen Brahne had just lost a daughter, she would still adopt her. The removing the horn would then seem like torture though and we would know that the Queen did that only for the power. Plus this would have affected Eiko (my favorite character). Also maybe I'm biased because I'm of African descent.
I'm not black and I think black garnet would have been awesome. Amarant is kindof the closest 9 has to a black character and he's blue so a bit of a poor showing for diversity in 9.
I personally think the dragoon story would have been more awesome than just the character changes. FFIX could have been SO different. IMO 9 is the best FF game ever though so I hope they make a new one based on FFIX's original plans. As for being like Legend of Dragoon, it probably would have been a lot different. The Dragoons didn't really serve dragons, in fact they had the power to control or govern over dragons(Legend of Dragoon is also one of my favorite games of all time and I've always wanted a sequel because the ending was left open-ended and even came up with ideas for new things in the transformation department). The story might have even had Zidane and Garnet as enemies. As for Garnet though, I really like the Garnet we got too so I don't mind, they could use the original Garnet for a new game based on the original story and I would be totally stoked though. Sadly the cutesy graphics might not make a return.

Personally I really enjoyed the triology, not my favorites in the FF series but I had fun playing them~ The XIII triology seems to have two groups of people behind them tho, either you love it or you hate it. I rarely hear anyone saying that they we're just "okay" with them x)
I'll never forget the first screens and concept art of FF9 and FF10, when they had the two armored versions of Zidane and Garnet, and when Tidus had black hair. When they showed it, it seemed so far away, and even the re-release of FF10 is in the past.

Being honest, I have a bit of a soft spot for the old Chocobo design, I know exactly where he was coming from with it- it looks a lot like 70's and 80's alien designs. The world that the Final Fantasy games take place in aren't Earth, so he designed a truly alien looking mount to be used. It was honestly better for the series to have the current design, but I get why the old one was made the way it was.
An optional scene (since the date goes to Cloud and Aerith based on her initial non optional proposal... the 3 other date scenes exist for fun/replay value/what if scenarios) where Barret accuses Cloud of being pedo towards his daughter isn't exactly genuine and good LGBT representation. Fang and Vanille are way better... even if I don't really know what SE was thinking when making their scenes. Did they really mean the relationship to be seen this way ? Or did they intend them to be fanservice for male players ? Queerbaiting ? Either way, they're definitively the best gay coded FF duo so far... but i'm still waiting for the day SE will create a non ambiguously gay pair (Life is Strange does not count, and it's not a FF game anyway) that is endorsed as such in ultimanias and the likes.

FFXII didn't really feel like it had a main protagonist, Vaan is like the eyes you see the story through. But just for giggles I'll consider Balthier to be the hero because he says he is.
My very first impression about Fang and Vanille is that they were a couple (or at least romantically involved). Nothing will ever change that. Let's be honest it was not implicit in any way, but the feeling was there. The only bad thing is that Square should have risked it and they should have shared a kiss at least once in all the FFXIII trilogy. Only once would have been awesome. Bash should have been the main protagonist in FFXII. Vaan is fine but has no character. Is like Vaan and Penelo were forced into the Story. This is in fact a situation similar to the Fang/Vanille one. They definitely thought one thing for the story, then changed it. Bald Chocobo and the Kweh Kweh made my day! LMFAO. Zidane should have been a Dragoon. It would have made him a lot more interesting. Garnet was just fine as she turned out to be 😊 Edea is one of the best FF characters ever. It would be nice to have her back. Terra is awesome, but her hair is green. Period :P
Exdeath still is a demonic centaur. The "top demon" of the soul chimera "Neo Exdeath", so the demonic fusion of souls that animated the tree is exactly this demon. You can still see a bit of his legs as Neo Exdeath. Exdeath is exactly like Naraku from Inuyasha. He has a bunch of fused demons as true form (contained by the tree) and then a "formed body" and in his case the warlock in blue armor is his new form.
I don't mind Vanille and Fang's lesbian love. Vanille looks a lot like a girl I fell in love in high school but didn't happen anything between us. Later she declared she's lesbian. So when I saw Vanille it was especially important for me. I miss that girl to this day...
Just adding my 2 cents on the Stella and Luna thing. While I admired Luna's bravery and sacrifice, I still wanna see what Stella was all about. Because I feel like she would have been more of a compelling character opposing Noctis and possibly lover. Like Romeo and Juliet

Faris is my favorite character but they did somewhat keep the original design for her. Her dancer class has what is basically the original design which is pretty cool.

I really agree with you about stella. Stella had a stern yet gentle image and I really dont get why they saw her as weak. Luna's appearance may have fitted her role better but her personality was all over the place. Oh and I see people compare luna to yuna a lot. I still prefer yuna over luna. Yuna was bland and innocent and started out weak but she definitely had more personality to her.
I think Noel was the original Fang....when you look at his clothes and facial features he's damn near Fang's brother lol. But it makes sense to switch him from xiii to xiii-2; a male counter partner for Serah and his tie in with Caius and Yeul.

From a japanese perspective, its kind of difficult not to see Fang and Vanille as a couple simply because they are REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLY touchy with each other. In japanese culture, (which you may note a lot if you look for it later in FF) people usually don't touch... ever. I mean, even a hug between couples is often expressed simply by placing your hands on the other person's shoulders. That counts as an 'intimate hug' for japan. Now, granted, there are people who are not shy about being a bit closer and there's no baggage attached, but in general, japanese _media_ does not portray characters like that. The amount of touching Fang and Vanille do goes way way beyond what would be considered "extremely embarrassing couples' affection." I mean, even parents of small children don't generally ever touch them under normal circumstances (in media portrayals; there will always be exceptions. Japan has a "TV normal" and a "real person normal"...but who doesn't?).
When I played FFXIII, I thought what Square did was cute. Fang and Vanille looked cute together, as sisters. The idea that they could be gay for one another never crossed my mind until watching this video.
Personally I like most of the original designs better than the actual ones. Cloud, Cecil and Locke looked more attractive and Lulu and Stella were more beautiful and cooler (Kimahri is great too) Also the dragoons in FFIX are interesting, really like the idea of Garnet being black

Does anyone else think yuna's original design inspired Seymour's? I don't know if seymour had a design at the point but they seem similar in more than just the hair department. I think the change to FF9 was also good because of Freya, if zidane and garnet had been dragoons what would freya be? She wouldn't have been a 3rd dragoon party member if she had been there at all and Freya is one of the coolest characters in FF.
Fang would be good either way but I like her as a woman, that way people can read whatever you want into the relationship with Vanille instead of it being so much more obvious. Original FFX plot would've been better imo since FF doesn't have many super dark storylines just a few characters with bad situations. Yuna and Garnett looked much more badass in their original designs. Basch deserved better.
I knew some of these especially the one about Basch but I think the change was needed as much as I love Basch (my favorite character in the series) the player needed a character to introduce the story and have the world of Ivalice explained to them. I think of the scene when we were first introduced to the Sandsea, Vaan had no idea about any of it and Basch told him the story of how the oil constructs came to be and explained the war between Arcadia and Rosaria. Same with the mist and Fran's explanation.
I just had a thought. I wonder if the Cerberus will be in the FF7 remake. As far as I'm aware it has no origin story. I'd like to see the DOC guns in FF7. It'll be interesting to see how they handle Vincent given his limit breaks. Vincent could be insane in the remake or a huge let down.

How is Amarant "the closest"? If anything I would think Freya since she's actually dark in tone.
Freya is light grey/blue in the game and pale in all the concept art.
Yoshitaka's artwork for amarant has dark skin instead of blue/green.

Being honest, I have a bit of a soft spot for the old Chocobo design, I know exactly where he was coming from with it- it looks a lot like 70's and 80's alien designs. The world that the Final Fantasy games take place in aren't Earth, so he designed a truly alien looking mount to be used. It was honestly better for the series to have the current design, but I get why the old one was made the way it was.
I love dresspheres too in fact X-2 is one of my favourite FF games. I also like Lighting Returns variation of Dresspheres
Before Fang and Vanille there was Cloud and Barrett
An optional scene (since the date goes to Cloud and Aerith based on her initial non optional proposal... the 3 other date scenes exist for fun/replay value/what if scenarios) where Barret accuses Cloud of being pedo towards his daughter isn't exactly genuine and good LGBT representation.
Fang and Vanille are way better... even if I don't really know what SE was thinking when making their scenes. Did they really mean the relationship to be seen this way ? Or did they intend them to be fanservice for male players ? Queerbaiting ?
Either way, they're definitively the best gay coded FF duo so far... but i'm still waiting for the day SE will create a non ambiguously gay pair (Life is Strange does not count, and it's not a FF game anyway) that is endorsed as such in ultimanias and the likes.

I never even felt like Vaan was the main character of XII. Him and Penelo were just along for the ride.

FFXII didn't really feel like it had a main protagonist, Vaan is like the eyes you see the story through. But just for giggles I'll consider Balthier to be the hero because he says he is.
My very first impression about Fang and Vanille is that they were a couple (or at least romantically involved). Nothing will ever change that. Let's be honest it was not implicit in any way, but the feeling was there. The only bad thing is that Square should have risked it and they should have shared a kiss at least once in all the FFXIII trilogy. Only once would have been awesome.
Bash should have been the main protagonist in FFXII. Vaan is fine but has no character. Is like Vaan and Penelo were forced into the Story. This is in fact a situation similar to the Fang/Vanille one. They definitely thought one thing for the story, then changed it.

Exdeath still is a demonic centaur. The "top demon" of the soul chimera "Neo Exdeath", so the demonic fusion of souls that animated the tree is exactly this demon. You can still see a bit of his legs as Neo Exdeath. Exdeath is exactly like Naraku from Inuyasha. He has a bunch of fused demons as true form (contained by the tree) and then a "formed body" and in his case the warlock in blue armor is his new form.
Original Garnet (aka black skin) have a amazing desing, I wish her in the game

I don't mind Vanille and Fang's lesbian love. Vanille looks a lot like a girl I fell in love in high school but didn't happen anything between us. Later she declared she's lesbian. So when I saw Vanille it was especially important for me. I miss that girl to this day...

While I admired Luna's bravery and sacrifice, I still wanna see what Stella was all about. Because I feel like she would have been more of a compelling character opposing Noctis and possibly lover. Like Romeo and Juliet

Faris is my favorite character but they did somewhat keep the original design for her. Her dancer class has what is basically the original design which is pretty cool.
I'm so happy that you spoke up about Fang and Vanille. I see it the exact same way. And it even says it in the official novel: "They were bound by something stronger than family." I love Fang and Vanille so much and I hope that they won't remain the only gay couple in the ff franchise.

I really agree with you about stella. Stella had a stern yet gentle image and I really dont get why they saw her as weak. Luna's appearance may have fitted her role better but her personality was all over the place.
Oh and I see people compare luna to yuna a lot. I still prefer yuna over luna. Yuna was bland and innocent and started out weak but she definitely had more personality to her.

I think Noel was the original Fang....when you look at his clothes and facial features he's damn near Fang's brother lol. But it makes sense to switch him from xiii to xiii-2; a male counter partner for Serah and his tie in with Caius and Yeul.

From a japanese perspective, its kind of difficult not to see Fang and Vanille as a couple simply because they are REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLY touchy with each other.
In japanese culture, (which you may note a lot if you look for it later in FF) people usually don't touch... ever.
I mean, even a hug between couples is often expressed simply by placing your hands on the other person's shoulders. That counts as an 'intimate hug' for japan.
Now, granted, there are people who are not shy about being a bit closer and there's no baggage attached, but in general, japanese _media_ does not portray characters like that.
The amount of touching Fang and Vanille do goes way way beyond what would be considered "extremely embarrassing couples' affection." I mean, even parents of small children don't generally ever touch them under normal circumstances (in media portrayals; there will always be exceptions. Japan has a "TV normal" and a "real person normal"...but who doesn't?).
When I played FFXIII, I thought what Square did was cute. Fang and Vanille looked cute together, as sisters. The idea that they could be gay for one another never crossed my mind until watching this video.
Ff x the plot was also going to be that the fayth was the reason that everyone died at the age of 17.

Personally I like most of the original designs better than the actual ones. Cloud, Cecil and Locke looked more attractive and Lulu and Stella were more beautiful and cooler (Kimahri is great too)
Also the dragoons in FFIX are interesting, really like the idea of Garnet being black

Basch wasn't too "manly", he was too old. I would much rather Basch had been the main character, but the Japanese are obsessed with youth. In their society, anyone old enough to be out of school no longer has personal freedom, but works for the collective good.

Soooooooooo, I play Brave Exvius. Never touched FF13 (haven't really touched any other FF game since 10/10-2 because...13). However, till watching this, I thought Fang was a man? I mean, the game sprite in the game (which I know you can't completely base things off of..it's pixels and small ones at that) looks masculine XD THOUGHT FANG WAS A MAN! MY MISTAKE~

Does anyone else think yuna's original design inspired Seymour's? I don't know if seymour had a design at the point but they seem similar in more than just the hair department.
I think the change to FF9 was also good because of Freya, if zidane and garnet had been dragoons what would freya be? She wouldn't have been a 3rd dragoon party member if she had been there at all and Freya is one of the coolest characters in FF.
Fang would be good either way but I like her as a woman, that way people can read whatever you want into the relationship with Vanille instead of it being so much more obvious. Original FFX plot would've been better imo since FF doesn't have many super dark storylines just a few characters with bad situations. Yuna and Garnett looked much more badass in their original designs. Basch deserved better.

I knew some of these especially the one about Basch but I think the change was needed as much as I love Basch (my favorite character in the series) the player needed a character to introduce the story and have the world of Ivalice explained to them. I think of the scene when we were first introduced to the Sandsea, Vaan had no idea about any of it and Basch told him the story of how the oil constructs came to be and explained the war between Arcadia and Rosaria. Same with the mist and Fran's explanation.
Basch Lives that still could have been done with basch as the mc. he could have still explained it to vann or some one else.

I just had a thought. I wonder if the Cerberus will be in the FF7 remake. As far as I'm aware it has no origin story. I'd like to see the DOC guns in FF7. It'll be interesting to see how they handle Vincent given his limit breaks. Vincent could be insane in the remake or a huge let down.
