- If you have recently installed a fresh version of android firmware onto your android TV box, this tutorial will show you how to enable your remote again.
This video is shown on the Lollipop firmware for the Amlogic S805 MXQ TV Box, however the same principle applies to ALL android TV box's running ROOTED firmware, not just our android setups.
ROOTED FIRMWARE ONLY !!!!!!
This tutorial can also be used for extracting the remote config file so that you can use other firmware such as different android firmware or maybe if you would like to use an operating system like, LibreELEC with your IR Remote Control.
Remote config files -
Only transfer the 'remote.conf' files as shown in the video - Our remote config files may not work, you may need to hunt down your own on forums, websites etc.

Thanks. I was sceptical but bit really worked. Dont know why my remote stopped working. Could not even factory reset as it wouldn't move the cursor in the boot screen. Discovered a USB Mouse worked and allowed a factory reset, then installed this remote config file in the etc folded and it's like new :-)
Great video, please i have a doubt. This tutorial is only to Amlogic devices or working on Rockchip devices? Work in all android versions or only in old versions (4.4.x 5, 6 etc)?

I updated MXQ with the firmware from the project. It works flawlessly. Of course my remote isn't working. I did the step by step on here and when I go to delete the remote.conf and remote1.config, it says error and doesn't delete the files. SuperSU was installed and I gave it full access. I installed the ES Explorer like the video said. What am I doing wrong that it's not letting me delete the files?

Does that mean original Android /system/etc remote.conf is being used by the new LibreElec install after Android wipeout ?
2. If I copy a new remote.conf file to LE boot SD card (over writing its file) will that suffice? Or do I have to copy to folder as in your video?

I updated the firmware on my TV box and my remote stopped working. I have a Rii 8 remote also but the Rii doesn't have an on/off button so I have to plug/unplug my TV box every time I want to watch it which is a pain in the you know what. I will try this and see if it works, thanks mate.

Normally it's in \system\etc but I did see the config in other folders as well.

Dude Thank you so much , I downloaded 4 remote files with the directions you provided, one thing I have to mention is to rename just to remote.conf my files were named remote1.conf, remote2.conf etc.. to distinguish between them, when you copy/paste in the box just rename it to remote.conf, I hope that helps, great video!

Don‘t use superSU unless you made sure you are not root already. ES Explorer should let you enable the root switch without superSU. But superSU does replace some boot files that will prevent Android from booting. At least on the 2017 X96 mini I have here with Android Nougat. So if you don‘t want to reupload your firmware to get behind the recovery menu, I‘d skip the part with superSU. It seems to be unnecessary anyway.

Hi the first remote config file worked for me, all buttons seem to work fine apart from the mouse button. Usually i get a cursor appearing. any help would be appreciated.Thanks
Can only suggest try another config file, use another wireless emote or even learn how to write your own config file, theirs a number of guides on the internet.

Secondly, there are no remote.config or remote.cfg in android 7.1.
I updated my qbox that was build on nexbox 95x to their android 7.1 and its pretty awesome. First time kodi works with passthrough master audio and truehd without SD card libreelec boot up.
But no ir remote.
Only thing I can find on www is that I have to unpack, switch dtb.img then repack, which is also a headache.
Can you help? Or look into it and give me your thoughts?

I think nougat has a different setup for IR remote configurations - My advice is to just use keyboard remotes rather than these IR remotes

Yes I am using rii keyboard with USB dongle which works flawlessly. But only problem is to turn on the box. I added visual off key to it (from market)
If I can figure out how to turn it on then ir remotes really doesn't matter.

I figured out the ir remote for android 7.1.
I made a remote.cfg and then remote_mouse1.tab, reboot and it works 😊
I extracted my remote.config then opened it in viewer pro and edited it in the original.
But I like to thank you for video. This video got me read up on how things works.
But after all this headache of how to make it to work and finally figured it out, I moved to libreelec on internal install. I get 7.1 trueHd and dts-hd master sound without having error.

Helo i have problem with remote controller of mx10 android box, everything was fine until i installed some gampepad tester and after that on my remote ok button, home button and mouse on off button doesnt work anymore.....i try to copy paste all the files but it didnt help, can you give me advice how to find corect remote conf or how to find and write code for these 3 buttns , andorid 7.1.2 ??

I'm not sure I understood correctly. Did you install a game patch? Then remote stopped working or did you install android 7.1 mod?
If only a game patch then Uninstaller should work. But if it's the whole Android platform then you need to find your original platform and burn it to your device and start from the beginning. It sucks but only way. Hope it helped dude

It just happened the same way to me. I installed usb/bt joystick and after that Ok and other buttons like the mouse do not work. Uninstalled it but stayed the same. I tried factory reset, no go. I will install again the stock firmware, I hope that works.

The ETC folder within your android system is where the Remoteconfig files are store - This video show you how to access this folder and change and swap over those config files

My remote control is no longer working. I watched your video but couldn't find the solution. There is no remote.conf file in the etc folder. instead they have remote_mouse1.tab and remote_mouse2.tab files. Can I make a correction with these?

Hi, Mat. Greetings from Spain. Great channel. I have a problem with my X96 mini remote. The Stop buttom doesn't work properly, works like Play/Pause buttom. I open the remote.conf file with ES File Explorer and see 0x52 124 #MEDIA_PAUSE and # 0x52 128 #MEDIA_STOP. I guess that's the problem so I edit the file and leave 0x52 128 #MEDIA_STOP (without #) only, but the problem remains. Stop buttom is Play/Pause buttom. Any suggestion? Thanks in advance.
Fixed. My box is a X96 mini with Android 7.1.2. In my etc folder there are 2 files: remote.conf and remote-mouse.tab. Remote.conf seems useless but I edited remote-mouse.tab and...voilà!

Your box will be corrupt and that is why it will not switch on - need to reload firmware

It may be a "simple process" to get the IR remote working again but getting the android box 'rooted' is not a simple process which , like you said, is required for this to work.

Most MXQ firmware is usually already rooted, usually need a rooting tool to do this - I am unaware of any that will work on MXQ firmware as it to generic hardware

i have the mx10pro and i can not connect remote controll...
Same here. I own a mx10 pro 4gb/32gb and on my remote just a few of the keys work (up, down, etc..), but OK, mouse, home, options, these do not work. Does some one how I can fix this problem? I have followed this tutorial but does not work for me as there are no files in the folder "etc". Even I copy one of these files, still does not work. Is it probably because mine is on Android 9? And the file structure is probably different?
