    Good explanation once again! I once worked with a guy that "warmed his pump up" by running it free air for about 5 minutes before hooking it to the system. I always thought that was a bit silly. Then again he did believe micron gauges were needed either so enough said there lol

    I've been in HVAC for 47 years. Since vacuum pump oil is "hygroscopic", absorbs moisture in the air like a sponge, changing vacuum oil is absolutely critical to a good vacuum and protecting your pump. "The Tank" oil change caddy is the best tool to have for changing vacuum oil. The most popular vacuum pumps will fit perfectly in The Tank. The Tank, part number DV-T1
    is available at Johnstone supply, United refrigeration supply and many other good supply houses. Ask for The Tank DV-T1.

    I would cap off all inlets and store it with oil. When you use it again, change the oil. Hope this helps.

    It wont hurt it. I used to keep the pump on the passenger side under the heater to keep it warm in the winter because it would go off on internal if it was cold.

    Can you say a few words about how to store a vacuum pump that won't be used for several months? Should you drain the oil out or leave it in? Vacuum pumps are sold with no oil, and you are supposed to add oil at first use. But it won't all drain out if you open the drain valve....

    I have not checked amp draw. The pump design is not for high volume but for high vacuum.

    I learned the hard way not to overfill my vacuum pump on the roof of someone's house. Thankfully I was wearing safety glasses. Didn't help my clothes or the side of the house though! What a mess!

      grayfurnaceman As per your teaching anecdote, it never happens to the same guy twice (it shouldn't anyways)

    Hi,I got a Robinair 15500 model last night .This young guy tried to sell me a frozen pump? I caught it and said $20.00 .He took it and was a bit shy after I caught on to his scam . This guy starts telling me it has been sitting for years ? I asked why and he said he was making HASH with the pump !!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT ? LOL The shaft was frozen because it had a large amount of HASH in the pumps oil and a spot of rust on the bushing causing it to freeze . It runs like new now after I cleaned it and removed the rust . This is a true story

    What is the difference between a vacuum pump, and a recovery pump. Do you have a vid showing from beginning to end how to hook up all the hoses, pumps, recover the refrigerant, pull a vacuum and how to reintroduce the refrigerant back into the system. I recently had a tech. to remove my old compressor and install a used one he said that would work just as good as a new one. It does work great but I don't remember him using Nitrogen to clear the lines. About how long can I expect my unit to operate before a break down. Can't afford another major repair like that one. Hot Here in Texas

      Danny Calk Some techs do not use nitrogen in the lines to keep the corrosion down. Not really thrilled about installing a used compressor. Compressor life is always reduced by poor installation, but its done now. The second compressor, (new part) generally lasts about 1/2 to 1/4 the life of the original.

    in charging a compressor, I assume it has to be running so that the refrigerant can feed through the input valve, and out the output valve to circulate in the system? is that correct?...

    • @grayfurnaceman
      @grayfurnaceman  10 лет назад

      I have not gotten into all the methods of charging. The short answer is one way of charging is to add gas thru the low side with the compressor running. Hope this helps.

    GFM, I just evacuated a system that was open a long time and got to a steady 450 microns. When I looked at the exhaust port on the vac I noticed a slight bit of vapor like steam coming out. I was concerned that this was moisture still being boiled off so I let the vac run about another 15 minutes. After 15 minutes it was still steady 450 microns but the slight vapor was still coming out. I closed the valve on the vac and turned it off to watch the rise and surprisingly there wasn`t any (I do use hard pipe). It stayed on 450 microns after 10 minutes so I called it good. I am wondering if I should have kept it running until no vapor could be seen coming out the exhaust. Do you think its OK?

    • @71dembonesTV
      @71dembonesTV 7 лет назад +1

      Gene Friedman I think that vapor is just oil vapor produced by the pump running. If it holds below 500 microns there's no way there's any moisture or other contaminants in there.

    2:30- I guess it's like running a blower motor in open air. No load= too many amps?

    can this pump be used as solution pump in vapour absorption system or only a centrifugal pump can be used?

      +ABDUL QADEER No. It a gas vacuum pump only.
