    Sorry, usually support the workers in these things, but it's 2024 now and having a government monopoly on liquor sales is just ridiculous at this point. Break it up already.

    I would like to be agree with them , but l can't, LCBO is an idea that should have been long gone , welcoming open competition then prices may eventually come down . P.S. there are no job guarantees.

      Or put more funding into Addictions and mental health services?? Offer subsidized housing or affordable rent? How about, hire more physicians, general practitioners? I know, cater to only the few who are very wealthy and give them more opportunity to make more money, that's it, that's a great idea....dumb

    Sorry boys, shelve stockers dont need 30 an hour and government benefits, canadians dont need the tax we're forced to pay, and the country needs to catch up to the rest of the planet and ditch this model

      70% of LCBO employees are casuals with no guarantee of hours, no benefits, and no job security! They start off at 17.57/hr and have to work a hour grid to move to the next step to get a raise. So no! They dont all make $30/hr with benefits!

      For what? No one would be able to afford investing into an LCBO franchise. Ideas for only the very wealthy to prevail and make more money while people are struggling to pay rent. Very bad idea to let Doug Ford give away the LCBO to lobby buddies.

      @@cameronpardy1793 For what? It's a cash cow. An initial investment/downpayment is paid to franchisor by the franchisee. The loan is repaid, which would easy. Limits could be placed on the number of franchises owned by one person corporation so that we don't replace one monopoly for another.

      Actually, they are not over paid at all. 7000 casuals making minimum wage or a little higher, 3000 full time..has anyone here ever worked full time hour in a retail store before?? Avg bottle cost 30$ (750ml, 26 oz) and they generate over 2.5$ billion in profits to invest back into Ontario. That's a humongous transactions number! Plus, weekly loads of anywhere from 500-2500 cases. It's not an easy job. Also, there's a reason it's been that way for almost 100 years because it's run very successfully from top down.
      If LCBO privatizes, it would starve our public service sectors which are fundamental to Ontario. Stop giving away great things so only your lobby buddies can prosper Doug Ford!!! BTW business 101...who in the right mind would lower the cost of alcohol in Ontario to compete when customers have been paying those prices all along...do we see gas costs ever go back to normal?? (50 cents/L) Wake up folks!

    What are the pay scales at the LCBO? Just wondering. Why should they get paid any more than someone at Food Basics, No Frills, Loblaws. Independent Grocer...

    The alcohol prices are ridiculous over priced over taxed I hope lcbo never opens again . Let the alcohol be sold everywhere and cheaper.

      It won't be cheaper!! What business owner would take a product that's been sold for a certain price forever and just go a head and lower the cost to be competitive?? Look at OCS, some of those products are way over priced and it's time to understand that no one will benefit from this except the extremely wealthy, again...dumb

      LCBO is always hiring and it is a great job! Definitely not glorified cashiers. Community members who work very hard and love their jobs. How are we going to pay for Health care, education and infrastructure if we don't have public assets coming in, oh right, raise taxes and I mean...everyone has a great paying job so they can afford that on top of sky rocket rent costs, grocery costs....wake up folks!!

    The interview mentions theft, which is like the pot calling the kettle black. Do locations of the LCBO still tell their employees not to engage when the see theft happen?
    Not that long ago news media ran stories about some thieves being bold enough to openly steal several bottles at a time on a regular basis.

      Yes theft is a problem at the LCBO! So maybe Doug Ford can address how he is going to deal with it and keep employees safe when he opens up the alchohol market to all big box store chains and convience stores!

    Please privatize the LCBO, it should have been done 30 years ago. Let the LCBO employees form a cooperative and compete in a free market.

      But compete what?? Every province that has privatized a portion of the controlled alcohol sales, end up coming to the LCBO because there's no options/different selections. Also, where are we going to make up the public funds? Oh right, raise taxes. Wake up folks! Also, please let everyone know that LCBO is always hiring! It's a great job, better then working at a "convenience store" for minimum wage with no benefits/pensions or hours. Dumb and lazy decision

      How about we get rid of Doug Ford? So that everyone can prosper, not just cater to the rich. Also, employees at LCBO work really hard and take pride in their company. It's run very successfully. I think these politicians need to come up with other creative ways to generate funds for the province instead of being lazy and just cutting different sectors..very dumb decision!

      You should have empathy for these folks because they're human and work really hard at the LCBO. 70% of employees are Casuals with no guarantee of hour or severance. Also, have you ever worked full time retail before, not easy at all. Please support all workers!!

    At 3:53, what is he/she/them/whatever trying to imply? Please share the stat of how many deaths have resulted from alcohol that was purchased from the LCBO. I have friends who have died from alcohol poisoning from alcohol that was purchased at the LCBO. What an idiot. Also, people walk into the LCBO with backpacks, load them up and leave without paying. LCBO employees are trained to do not do anything about it. This person is spewing pure nonsense and certainly is not worthy of our tax dollars.

      Whoa, get the facts straight. The union only wants the members to be safe. So does the employer, this is a joint agreement in the safety of the employees and all employers/unions should have policy's in place to make sure safety is number 1 priority

Expressing their concern about what may happen if liquor sales are expanded to the private sector. It's disengenuous. If safety was a top priority this should have been addressed years ago, not at bargaining time as a talking point. This is the same tactic striking teachers use claiming it's for the students.

Hours of operation sucks, closed every holiday sucks, highest prices in the country sucks, putting the gun to the taxpayers head sucks.....overall the lcbo sucks. As far as losing jobs, well the same people at are crying about loosing jobs are the same people crying that 70% of employees for the lcbo are part time casual and that sucks, so essentially Doug Ford is doing you a big fat favor.
