Being such a feared animal, I have a lot of respect for those that will step to a lion with no fear. Big cats are my favorites, but seeing them acquiesce to a more powerful creature is awesome to me.
Everything acquiesce to Hippos minus only elephants. I think it is purely because of the size though. No predator in Africa will mess with a hippo though. baby hippos will chase and play with crocs. It's crazy to watch. I just watched a video of a baby hippo pulling on the tail of a croc twice his size. The croc was like "nope, I'm not pissing off your mom". Hippos truly are the most vicious animal in Africa.

It all depends on situation and the individual animal. Sometimes hippos group scatter away when it suddenly charges aggressively and sometimes a single hippo charges a group of lions they scatter away. Don't think to much of it.
