The Dodge Ram has always been an ugly truck 😂 it also has the poorest resale and worst reliability. Reliability wise they are a nightmare. The same as the Dodge Challenger and charger... Garbage reliability.

Glad to hear that your bug deflector is working out great for you! About a year ago I switched from the AVS Bugflector II to the AVS Aeroskin II. I had a local body shop color match the deflector to the truck and, while I think the new body-color Aeroskin II looks better, it doesn't do nearly as good a job of deflecting bugs as the Bugflector II did. Still, it does just as good a job of protecting the hood paint as the old one did. Oh well, you gain some and you lose some.

Thanks for the 2 year update. I enjoy these perspectives from owners. I watched many of these vids before buying my brand new 2020 TRD Sport DCLB 4X4. I hope folks remember that this is an mid size truck. If back seating is an issue look at a Tundra or a full size domestic. I found the Auto trans quirky at first but now I’m used to it after 7 months of driving it. Love the factory heated seats living in Canada. This is my second Toyota Truck. Had a brand new 1992 V6 5spd extra-cab 4X4 for 14 trouble free years. Loved that truck and the QDR. Hoping for the same with this truck.

Hey Isaac, love your videos and your candor. I have a 2017 Tacoma and had a lot of issues with the shifting. I ended up getting it tuned with KDMAX 6.0 at an event in Phoenix, AZ. It made a night and day difference in the performance. You may have seen posts on the forums about that tune and I can tell you without a doubt that it's worth every dime. The truck holds gears properly, has absolutely no weird shift patterns that I've seen, and feels like it has more power, WAY better acceleration, and makes it much more of a pleasure to drive. Just figured I'd pass along the tip. Anyhow, keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to seeing more content from you in the future. God bless you in your endeavors.

I've had my 2018 sr5 for almost 4 years and I've put over 90,000 hard kms on mine (off-roading, overlanding, hauling/towing). I moved my fiance and myself into our first house, with nothing other than the truck and a dual axle trailer, it endures the harshest Canadian winters and has held up amazing, has always started in -30 celcius no issues., It just passed mvi yesterday, haven't put a single part on it yet, not even brake pads. most reliable vehicle money can buy. great video buddy.

I'm glad to see you are enjoying your Tacoma 2years out. I was watching some of your videos when I was looking at buying one. Now I've had my beautiful 2020 Cement SR5 4x4 for nearly a year. I Still look back at it when I park somewhere like I can't believe it's mine. It's been a blessing to have a new vehicle that's super dependable and handy to have a pickup truck for a change. I've done some of the same things to mine. AVS hood shield and the window ones went on day one. I installed custom seat covers, I got the black letters to fill in the tailgate, changed out all the speakers for kickers and yeah I lost those clips too. I got a bag of then on Amazon though. I don't hear mine rattle either.
The trick is to not let them in the door if they don't come off with the panel. You have to squeeze they in you finger nails and pull them out and put them on the back of the panel and they won't fall in when you press the panel on again.
I got new tires last week. Got a great deal on Cooper Discoverer AT at Walmart and moved up to 265/75R16. They fill the wheel wells much better and the truck looks better too. I also too the air dam thing off last week too. Much improved the looks.
I liked the cover you have because it's so affordable and made well as I've seen one but I decided to get a Lomax hard tri-fold tonneau cover. I don't like that I have to take it off to haul tall items but it's not really heavy and comes off and on pretty easy.
Hopefully we will see a three year video some day.
    Take care.

I think dealership are trying to use depreciation on their favor. They want to buy your car/truck the first year or so to try to get a deal from you while keeping the 1 or 2 year old cars artificially high cost by creating artificial demand. At the same time they want you sell you a new one and get from you all those dealers charges.

Love the bit at the end about everyone loving different trucks and how that makes you happy. I have a 2020 Ranger FX4, and man I love it. Tacoma's are sweet. I'd argue there the best looking truck out there, but the seat height was a deal breaker for me. The Ranger has such a comfortable seating position. I've been blessed enough to take 2 road trips this year, and I have no problem driving it for 6+ hours. Also, I love the transmission and engine in the Ranger, it's quite zippy. As for prayers, health for my family and me would be great. Seems like there's always something that goes wrong with these bodies. God bless.

Toyota taking ownership of issues with their vehicle makes them golden to the buyer. I don't know how many people got new rust replacement truck frames that was worth more than the truck**. They are the hardest working automotive manufacturer at earning trust, and confidence. I have had a Toyota truck since 1984, and I am about ready to take delivery of my 4th Tacoma next February. Not one of these vehicles have had any drivetrain work... Maintenance, 1 water pump, batteries, bulb replacement, new wipers, tire replacement, this is my regimen for keeping them all running in top shape.
**True story... One of my Toy trucks was a 1994 model, - before Tacoma they had no specific name. Well, after 18 years of driving, it was discovered to have a rusted frame. While my model year was not covered by frame replacement due to age (they drew the line at the 95 Tacoma's), I did get over Kelly Blue Book price for the truck. What other maker has that kind of resale with such a severe issue at 18 years old? They don't.

I just bought the 2022 SR5 and I’m in love with it. I had a 2015 wrangler which was a huge disappointment. The wrangler was a horrible ride, which didn’t bother me so much since it is a Jeep after all, but after 100k miles it has serious reliability issues with the engine failing at 141k. With the Tacoma I don’t feel like I had to sacrifice ride quality and features for off road capability. It has everything necessary for a comfortable daily driver and is totally capable of doing what I need off road. I don’t expect any reliability issue either. Overall it was worth the extra money and I’m super happy with the purchase.

Hi Isaac! Have you ever looked into getting a computer update at the dealer for your shifting issues? I have a 2021 SR5 and I don’t have any of those shifting glitches. My door panel is also very solid with no movement so perhaps Toyota has addressed that too. Love the heated seats add-on! I’m going to look into that. Thanks for the videos!

I’m just going to talk about your video. I have the ‘18 SR5 I bought used with only 15K on it 6 months ago. I’ve not noticed the mirror wind noise or the door being flimsy. I’ll need to check it out just to see if I have just missed it. My mods are the LED headlights, fog & license plate light. Replaced all interior lights with LED’s (now they’re almost too bright!) I put chrome rings on my a/c controls because I like chrome. I put orange insert lettering on the glove box and the 6 little pieces on the TOYOTA emblem on the steering wheel to accent the orange door/dash accents color. I put little, black trimmed in orange rubber cubby inserts (cup holders, door panel storage, coin trays, etc.). Exterior, super nice running boards, snap-over name badges in black (SR5, V6, Tacoma) and Window visors from WearherTech. Still want a bed cover and maybe mud flaps(???) But I do love my God, wife, family, church and my truck!

I just watched a "Bros Fourr Speed" RUclips video that dealt with installing aftermarket speakers in a Tacoma. When the brother removed the driver's side door card, I could see an L bracket bolted to the inner door to which the screw at the bottom of the door card's grab handle is fastened to. Perhaps the L bracket in your Tacoma's driver's door has come loose?

Great review. You think like me in many ways: the flimsiness and cheap feeling in some areas is hard to escape. Especially when your previous vehicle was a rock-solid, super high quality, previous generation Tacoma. Lights in bed? I remember myself looking for stuff under the tonneau at night, so I have these OEMs on my list. A bug deflector is a great accessory. It's next on my list. Engine and suspension mods? Not a fan. I respect how engineers designed this vehicle to last past 200K miles. No need to mess with the mechanicals...The transmission, I don't like so much, but I guess it is just a matter of getting used to it. Supposedly it "learns" my driving habits and adjusts to them. We'll see... Two things I wish my truck had come with: the RVM with the garage door opening system, and the front grille camera. So I'll be installing a dashcam soon. Hey, great review, Liked and Suscribed!

For your wind noise. Mine developed a whistle on the passenger door. It turned out to be the window seal. I fixed it with a set of the vent visors that stick on the outside of the door. DO NOT use the ones that go in the window channel. This will exacerbate the problem.

Transmission problem is that it up shifts to overdrive gears before it should, especially when going slow so when you lightly press on the gas, the transmission down shifts. One way to prevent that from happening is to drive in “sport mode”. In sport mode it will not shift past 4th gear unless you manually shift it.
It’s a lot better around town.

The fuel part recall is that the plastic impellor in the fuel pump was breaking down in the gas. (Denso used an inferior plastic). So it was not an electrical failure of the fuel pumps to Denso's credit but more of a material/construction problem. But I'm surprised Denso had this problem. I wonder if a contractor switched the formula for the plastic approved by Toyota?

I have a 2011 taco and thought about upgrading BUT I have a few issues:
    - parking brake being lever action on the center console (not big but imo it shouldn't be there for a truck)
    - while it handles really smooth it doesn't feel like a truck while driving(at least for me)
    - the interior while upgraded it feels cheap, as if they upgraded while saving as much as possible
    - this was actually funny when it happened, I test drove a 2021 taco and a fuse for the rear popped due to a short coming from the front left headlight (might want to look into that if you have 2021)
-the transmission feels as if they didn't tune it properly, at times it felt like it woke up and was fumbling with the gears
Due to these I decide to just go fully upgraded 2nd gen taco, as for that amount it wasn't worth it (at least for me)

  • @Dreaklock
    @Dreaklock 2 года назад +4

I'm chomping at the bit to get a Tacoma so I can take it camping and do some mild offroading, but part of me really wants to wait for Gen 4. I want one with a 10 Speed transmission, an upgraded engine (hopefully more powerful and more efficient --- either a hybrid, a 4 cyl w/ turbo, or a new 6), and a more modern interior with even more features. It'd be nice if they could make the whole thing a little more comfortable like the Ridgeline, but still maintain its beastly offroad abilities. The best of both worlds. I just don't know if I can hold out until 2024-2026.

Because of Scotty Kilmer talking about the reliability of Toyota, me changing my mind from wanting a small car to a midsize truck, and researching Toyota's midsize truck (Tacoma), I was invested to save for the truck.
I just got a 2020 Tacoma SR5 V6 4x2 Full-Cab 5ft Bed just 2 weeks ago, had 1 owner but "upgraded to a Tundra," and so far, I'm loving my truck.
I have no bed covers for bed nor side door steps, but planning to buy the steps.
When driving my truck, I did feel some weird feelings of changing gears. By the way, I don't use cruise control, so maybe that's why? Anyway, I turn on ECT Power button, and I feel less changing of gears; supposedly, it delays the change of gears when merging lanes, passing other vehicles, and used when towing. A RUclipsr said "ECT Power keeps the feel of ride more steady, but spends a lil more on fuel economy," which is understandable.
Anyway, glad to see your truck is still in really good condition after 2 yrs and having used it outside activities with friends and towing. My truck should hold up well too then.
