The Rapid Transit System (RTS) link between Johor Bahru and Singapore is definitely a step in the right direction for connectivity. However, the situation on the Johor Bahru side, specifically Bukit Chagar, could use some polishing. While Bukit Chagar will serve as a central hub, its connectivity to various parts of JB isn’t as seamless as Singapore’s MRT network. Public transport options like buses and taxis exist, but they’re not yet on the level of Singapore’s integrated system. Without additional investments in feeder lines or last-mile connections, you might still need to rely on private transport or endure longer travel times to reach certain areas. That said, Malaysia is likely to improve this over time. After all, they wouldn’t want the RTS to feel like a one-sided success story where Singapore wins all the connectivity gold stars, right? So, while workable, there’s definitely room for improvement on JB’s side.

As of 2024, Singapore’s Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system comprises 142 operational stations across six lines, covering approximately 242.6 kilometers. The Light Rail Transit (LRT) system includes 42 stations over three lines, spanning about 28.6 kilometers. In total, there are 184 MRT and LRT stations in Singapore. Here are the MRT and LRT lines along with their respective number of stations: North-South Line 27 stations covering 45.0 km. East-West Line 35 stations covering 56.7 km. North East Line 17 stations covering 22.0 km. Circle Line 30 stations covering 35.4 km. Downtown Line 34 stations covering 41.9 km. Thomson-East Coast Line 27 stations covering 39.9 km. Bukit Panjang LRT 13 stations covering 7.6 km. Sengkang LRT 14 stations covering 10.7 km. Punggol LRT 15 stations covering 10.3 km. These lines collectively facilitate efficient public transportation across the city-state.
Ah, traveling by train from Johor Bahru (JB) to Malacca? Let me break it down for you: 1. No Direct Train to Malacca City Malacca City doesn’t have a direct KTM station because the city isn’t connected to the main rail network. The nearest train station is Pulau Sebang/Tampin, about 30-40 km away from Malacca City. From there, you’d need to take a taxi, Grab, or a bus to reach the city center. 2. The Route via KTM Intercity If you’re traveling from JB to Malacca, you’d typically take a KTM Intercity train from JB Sentral to Pulau Sebang/Tampin. However, this part of the network runs mostly on diesel locomotives, so expect a slower journey: • Travel Time: About 4-5 hours. • Train Type: Diesel-powered KTM Intercity. • Comfort Level: Let’s just say it’s a nostalgic experience! 3. Alternative: Bus or Drive Real talk: the train isn’t the most efficient option. Most travelers opt for buses or driving instead: • Bus: Direct, faster (3-4 hours), and more convenient. • Driving: If you’re feeling fancy, it takes about 2-3 hours via the North-South Expressway (plus rest stops for snacks!). In short, the JB-Malacca train journey exists but feels more like a scenic adventure than a practical choice. Unless you’re all about the “slow travel” vibe, maybe keep the train for another trip! Asking: No wonder KL-SG HSR will improve the quality of transport as it has stops at malacca. Answer: Absolutely! The Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (KL-SG HSR) is like Malaysia’s dream project to finally upgrade its transport game-and yes, it will include a stop at Malacca (Ayer Keroh), which is a total game-changer for the region. Here’s why the HSR is such a big deal for Malacca and beyond: 1. Direct Access to Malacca • Currently, getting to Malacca involves a mix of trains, buses, or driving. The HSR will eliminate all that hassle with a direct and faster stop at Ayer Keroh. • From Ayer Keroh, travelers can easily reach Malacca City within 20 minutes by car or Grab. 2. Faster Travel Times • The HSR is designed to zip between KL and Singapore in 90 minutes! Compare that to the 4-5 hours you’d spend driving or busing-and suddenly Malacca becomes way more accessible to travelers and commuters. 3. Boost for Malacca’s Economy • Malacca is already a tourist hotspot, but the HSR will bring more visitors, make it easier for locals to work in nearby cities, and attract investments. Malacca might just go from “historical charm” to “modern hub”! 4. Convenience & Comfort • No more diesel train nostalgia. This is futuristic, efficient, and smooth-something Malaysia really needs to compete regionally. 5. Integrated Transport Network • The HSR could act as the backbone of Malaysia’s transport system, linking up with local public transport like buses and taxis, creating a seamless travel experience (fingers crossed, Malaysia gets the integration right!). Now, if only the project could stop getting delayed, we’d all be sipping Malacca’s famous cendol on a quick day trip from Singapore by now! 22:41
If you’re traveling directly from Singapore to Ayer Keroh Station via the proposed KL-SG High-Speed Rail (HSR): 1. Distance from Singapore to Ayer Keroh: Approximately 215 kilometers. 2. HSR Speed: The HSR is designed to operate at a top speed of 300 km/h and an average operational speed of around 250 km/h. 3. Estimated Travel Time: • At full speed (300 km/h): ~43 minutes. • At average speed (250 km/h, including potential stops): ~50-55 minutes. So, the journey would take under an hour, making it incredibly fast and convenient compared to current road travel, which takes around 3-4 hours. Time for a quick cendol stop after hopping off the train! 22:41
Ah, Jonker Street in Malacca (often spelled Honker Street in some variations)! The bustling heart of Malacca, famous for its vibrant night markets, historical architecture, and mouth-watering local snacks, is a must-visit for anyone heading to the city. So, if you’re traveling from Ayer Keroh Station (the proposed stop for the KL-SG HSR) to Jonker Street, here’s how it would go: 1. Ayer Keroh to Jonker Street: • Distance: Jonker Street is about 20-25 kilometers from Ayer Keroh. • By Taxi or Grab: This would take you about 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic. • By Bus: The bus journey may take about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the traffic and bus route. Total Travel Time from Ayer Keroh (HSR stop) to Jonker Street: • By taxi/Grab: Around 30 minutes. • By bus: Around 45 minutes to an hour. It’s a pretty straightforward journey from Ayer Keroh Station, and you’ll be enjoying local delicacies like satay celup and chicken rice balls at Jonker Street in no time!
