So true. Stan and Joan had a long and apparently happy marriage, and she was a great strength to him. According to legend, she encouraged him to "go for it" with Spider-Man in the final issue of Amazing Fantasy, and the rest is history. They were together until the end. It's so cool they were able to share that cameo, and they were holding each other. Great moment in Marvel history, even though it wasn't Marvel Studios.

    • @dylancole1910
      @dylancole1910 6 месяцев назад

I thought Wanda still was technically but the utilization of magic AND the experimentations with the mind stone enhanced and unlocked her powers. She’s just called a Witch because she uses magic more than her natural powers at this point, it’s basically a combination of both. Same with Pietro/ Peter ( Quicksilver I guess), he already has powers and was experimented on.

Oscar Isaac, Apocalypse himself, was asked at a Q&A session while promoting his MARVEL Series Moon Knight, and one interviewer asked what was the one film he regrets doing, and it was X MEN Apocalypse, as he didn't like the suit or the makeup and the suit felt very bulky and couldn't find a place to sit down. That end scene, with the Essex Corp briefcase still makes me inordinately sad. It was a tease for the character of Mr Sinister, probably one of the most interesting villains in X-Men history, and I was SO looking forward to seeing him, but it went absolutely nowhere. They also kind of wasted Apocalypse just putting him in one movie, he is to the X-Men what Thanos was to the Avengers in the MCU movies.

it was pretty terrible. And that scene with Quicksilver, in addition to being obviously derivative and just an attempt to recreate the far superior scene from DoFP and try (and fail) to one-up it.... kinda should have resulted in QS killing everyone in the X-Mansion. In DoFP they take the time to explain he has to hold Magneto's neck when he moves him so fast or else he gets whiplash, and he clearly does not feel well after being moved at such speed... so it's established that QS's powers don't protect those he touches from the effects of rapid velocity changes... but in this... they totally ignore that. He goes around grabbing everyone in the mansion, accelerates them from standing still to moving at near the speed of light in an instant, the decelerates them all the same way... if this actually happened every single person he touched would have had their insides turned to mush. They would all be very, very, very dead. It's not like getting touched by the flames of an explosion is what kills you... it's the rapid acceleration from the blast wave hitting you breaking and damaging your insides. Quicksilver wasn't saving anyone from that, he was doing it to them but worse, moving them even faster and more abruptly than the explosion would have.

I must have misremembered the release order. I thought that "X-Men: Dark Phoenix" was the next movie. But I won't complain about getting "Logan" a little sooner than I expected. Watching your reaction to it will be awesome. I already know it. And I personally am looking forward to "The New Mutants" reaction, though I am definitely in the minority on that one. Maybe I'm biased, but I enjoyed it. In any case, lots to look forward to! ✌🤓

I know a lot of people would disagree with me. But I enjoy this film quite a bit. Sure, the hero shots are a little campy, when compared to the MCU franchise. But, this really captivates some of the early 90s-2000s X-men storylines. Magneto's limited storybeing folded into the film plot was perfect. And, even Apocalypse's campy villain monologs reminded me of not only his superior self perspective, but also a little bit of the Sinister Mauraders from the 80s.
Plus, we finally got a decent looking Angel, turned Archangel, even if his character was brought down to Sabertooth level from X1. Plus, who would have anticipated Psylocke, one of the most s3xualized heroines from the Xmen comics.
And Sophie as Jean, we could definitely use more of her.

Like I said, yes the writing is trash and I agree the movie has a lot of lazy written scenes and flaws like the scene you mentioned, but still doesn’t take away that the actors did the best they could with the awful writing, Fassbender has an amazing performance, and some of the other actors, it has good VFX and the cinematography is not bad, definitely not all crap. It is a below average movie like a 4.5/10 but if it was all crap it would be 1-3/10, the movie did fulfilled a few filmmaking aspect which is why it’s a below average film. Hey, Addie! Halle Berry was cast for her status as a high profile actress but was never thought appropriate for the role of Storm by fandom. Whether they even bothered with the accent to be comic accurate or whether she had difficulty affecting one is unknown. Alexandra Shipp has a British accent normally but affected a generic African accent for the role. The upbringing as a Cairo street urchin is true. She picks Xavier's pocket when he discovers her. She was never a villain in the comics.
Psylocke has a complex back story. Fangirl Olivia Munn insisted on the strappy Kwannon look when she inhabits a Japanese body but, initially, she is Betsy Braddock, the sister of Brian Braddock aka Captain Britain.
Wolverine's electronic attachments were probably sensors but were included on film to be comic accurate to Barry Windsor-Smith's illustrations for the "Weapon X" storyline.
This franchise wasn't made with a cohesive plan which is why there are so many continuity errors explained as variances in multiple timelines. No one knew the first film would be successful or as impactful on superhero cinema as it was. Once the train left the station, the filmmakers just kept laying down track and the audience went along with it. Characters meet for the first time at different points in the two timelines.
Essex Corp. refers to Nathaniel Essex aka Mr. Sinister, an end-credit scene that pays off somewhat in "New Mutants".
I have a soft spot for the X franchise and am willing to overlook its flaws. The biggest detriment to this film is that Apocalypse doesn't come across as terrifyingly formidable despite his insidious plan to enslave humanity telepathically by co-opting Charles' mind. Apocalypse always seems invincible in the comics and cartoon. His Darwinian philosophy isn't made explicit to those who know nothing about the character; he just seems like your typical megalomaniac.
    The highlights are:
    -- the Egyptian opening
    -- the Magneto family tragedy
    -- the introduction of Psylocke
    -- the Quicksilver sequence
    -- the Weapon X cameo
-- the battle in Cairo using powers in concert (a staple that's always handled well)
    -- the psychic avatar duel
-- the new line-up with a bald Charles at the end
I loved how they made Logan look just like the Barry Windsor-Smith illustrations from the "Weapon X" comic. I also really liked the portrayals of Storm by Alexandra Shipp and Nightcrawler by Kodi Smit-McPhee. The guy who played Caliban was also great! The duality of Charles and Erik continues to remain the affecting core of the franchise.
I hated that they started to go down the same Phoenix path they trod before in "X3" but, fortunately, they course-correct in the next movie by making a significant change. The '90s are next with "DARK PHOENIX"!!!!

Great reaction Addie. I see that most people miss the point of door scene with Chales and Jean. Remember everything is symbolism in the mind. Jean is a more powerful psychic then Charles and remember Apocalypse wanted this power specifically. Charles kept this memory LOCKED because he knew if he couldn't get Charles who would be next..Jean. While powerful was still young and inexperienced. Sophie hats off to her played this well. Charles and Jean are like Father / Daughter. While Jean was more powerful, she was still young and learning from Charles. Jean watching the man she basically called father was being beating to death mentally. She had to watch and Sophie played this so well..the tears in her eyes. Jean was gaining focus here. Giving her will to do what needed to be done. Charles "Unlocking" that door was Jean's que to do as he said unleash her power. One this surprised Apocalypse as he had no clue about Jean of what Jean potential was or abilities until that specific moment. Jean was protecting those she loved...and she knew Charles needed her. I love the daughter protecting her basically father figure. Also just think at how power Charles was to be battling him and STILL able to keep this memory locked from him! Crazy.

5:53 'This is my brother Scott...I'm about 20 years older than him, but also, we're roughly the same age, somehow.' 😂
This is where it becomes ridiculous that they started setting every movie ten years after the last one. We're supposed to believe that 20 years from this movie, these characters, who've barely aged since the 1960s, are suddenly going to rapid-age and become Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, etc. And we have to make sense of the fact that Havoc and Cyclops are obviously only a few years apart in age, despite the fact that Xavier recruited Alex 20 years ago.

The absolute best part of the film was "Quicksilver Saves Everyone". That was such a great scene I have watched it many times. Yes, the timeline is all screwed up now.
One thing that bugged me about these later movies is that they're still using the younger cast, even though the time period of the movies is catching up to the time period of the original movies. Remember the flashback showing Charles and Erik going to visit Jean as a child? It was a de-aged Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. But here Jean is already in her late teens, or early 20s and the roles are still being played by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. To me, that says that they didn't really care much about continuity with the original movies, they just wanted an excuse to use younger actors.
And again, I encourage you to watch the Deadpool 2 teaser. It doesn't spoil anything about that movie or anything else. It's a funny little, stand-alone Deadpool scene.

I don't get why people say this movie sucks when it's not that bad. Thr story is great, Apocolypse looked awesome as did all the other characters. And Addie, mutants are born with the X gene that makes them mutants but their abilities usually manifest during puberty(Nightcrawler and Mystique being exceptions to this). So they have to deal emerging superpowers and puberty at the same time. Also, in the comics Scott is the older brother to Alex but it's reversed in the movies. This js because the writers and producers of First Class wanted to have characters and powers we hadn't seen before for the most part.

I hope when they introduce The X-Men & The Fantastic 4 in the MCU in the future they start at the very beginning again w/ Professor X showing how his entire household, parents included, pretty much regularly left him abandoned in the mansion alone because of his freaky and inexplicable powers leaving Charles to think he was insane. Then he can get himself committed as a young adult, meet and wake-up his future wife Gabrielle Xavier. Then they can introduce their son, David Haller, into the MCU. For those that do not know, David is an Omega level mutant and is the most powerful mutant of the MCU. Sometimes he’s good and sometimes he’s bad because of what the parasitic mutant, Amahl Farouk the Shadow King, who used his powers while he was just a baby. The Shadow King began to manipulate David's memories and his perception of the world. He disguised himself as a beagle named King which would follow David around as a kid, however only David could see King. Farouk also disguised himself as one of David's childhood nightmares, The Angry Boy. A character from a book that Mr. Haller may have read to him called The World's Angriest Boy in the World. It is unsure if Mr. Haller actually read the book or if this is another memory trick from the Shadow King.
Over time the psychological damage from having the Shadow King manipulate his memories took its toll on David's mental health. He became violent punching a peer at prom, he committed petty crimes, and was often publicly intoxicated. Around this time, David's mutant abilities also began to grow in power, shattering the windows of a police vehicle during one such incident. Sometime after this, he is diagnosed with schizophrenia.
While working in an Israeli psychiatric facility, Charles Xavier met a patient named Gabrielle Haller. The two had an affair which ended amicably. Gabrielle became pregnant with David, but did not tell Charles.[2]
David, at a young age, was living with his mother and stepfather in Paris when his home was attacked by terrorists and his stepfather was killed. The trauma of the situation caused an initial manifestation of David's mutant powers, as David incinerated the minds of the terrorists. In the process, he unintentionally absorbed the mind of the terrorist leader, Jemail Karami, into his own. Being linked to so many others at their time of death, David was rendered catatonic for years. As he slowly recovered, he was moved to the care of Moira MacTaggert at the Muir Island mutant research facility. The trauma (possibly in conjunction with the nature of his reality-altering powers) caused David's mind to dissociate chronically until it became Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), each alter manifesting different mutant abilities.[3]
The Karami alter, which manifested telepathic abilities, struggled for years to separate his consciousness from David's. In the process, Karami tried to unify as many alters as he could, trying to end David's catatonic state. Some of the alters resisted Karami, most notably Jack Wayne, a swaggering adventurer who was telekinetic, and Cyndi, a temperamental, rebellious girl who was pyrokinetic. Ultimately Karami, Wayne, and Cyndi continued to exist as David's most prominent alters.
During his time at Muir Island, David saved Moira and Wolfsbane from a fatal accident by accessing the telekinetic abilities of his Jack Wayne alter. However, this allowed Jack Wayne to take control of David's body, and he left the island. The New Mutants tracked him down and, after a struggle, convinced Wayne to allow David to again assume control. Soon after, David was possessed by the Shadow King. While under the Shadow King's influence, David killed the mutant Destiny and destroyed 2/3 of the island. When the X-Men and X-Factor defeated the Shadow King, David was again left in a coma.
The diagnosis of schizophrenia was the most logical for David, not knowing about his mutant heritage. He often heard voices (people's thoughts) and saw things that weren't there (visions caused by Farouk). A psychiatrists prescribed David medicine which would help with schizophrenic symptoms and inadvertently dampened his abilities. Although David believed he could move things with his mind (something that he could achieve) he wrote this off as a delusion and a symptom of schizophrenia thus he never explored his powers.
David’s dissociative identity disorder means he's also wrestled with a variety of personalities that accompany his thousands of powers; each with their own abilities and dispositions, hence his nickname, “Legion”. David can sometimes kill mutants in a rage or on accident and have no idea he’s done it, can consume people and mutants and trap them in one of the numerous universes he has in his mind.
