Paul Buchanan is the one that got away from stardom, truly.
He composed some of the most beautiful songs of the 80s and they gave him nothing in return.
Not only that, he had a really, really good tenor voice as well. Beautiful timbre.
As an off--the-charts fan of the Blue Nile, to even conceive to take on a one of the most beautiful love songs of the last 50 years, not just by the band, but by any artist....and stand upright against the original and land where KEANE does here?! Courageous and absolutely one of the best cover songs I've heard in years. Here's why: it makes me appreciate the original even more and love this version as much.

wow, I've been a fan of the blue nile for decades, and frankly, I came here to bash this cover, but I was blown away by the singer, not so much by the instrumental arrangement, but the singer is phenomenal, I think paul buchanan would approve of this

Not normally a fan of bands doing cover, but this one is exceptional.
The best song I've seen Keane perform ever. They fell short on phrasing and melody, but a vey honest attempt.

I don't care what people say, but for more than 8 years I have observed that ONLY Keane has enough passion for music to take a song and turn it into an amazing new hymn....... I am also blown away by how Tom's voice & Tim's piano are getting more powerful with time...... for me, a new Keane era is beginning and a lot of people in the music industry will have to swallow their past words.........

It’s one of the best things about The Blue Nile. The Melodies, sound and words are so painstakingly and generously crafted as to allow the listener their own personal piece of gold within, and then sing it with that meaning.

Nothing comes close to the heartbreak emotional feel of the original, but having said that, this is far far better than the rod stewart or annie lennox versions

It is not necessary to be equal to the original, because we have the original, it is important feeling and pain in the interpretation and this is what makes Keane in Tom's voice.

Until 20 minutes ago i didn't know others had even covered this song by The Blue Nile. Just listened to Rod Stewart's and Annie Lennox's versions.....they were just about ok. None, including this has the dramatic sound of the original but fair play to them for covering a great tune.

Never knew they covered such a band but it's funny how the handful of your most memorable bands all seem to interlink at some point in the proceedings. The Blue Nile were a one off mind you.ps i do wonder about the date on this one. He looks more like the 2005 version of himself.

David Sylvian would be interesting. This Keane cover, frankly, is not cutting it for me. The lead singer does not "feel it."

A choirboy that hasn't ever known love. I do really like some Keane songs, but only when they're singing about innocence, and not experience.
Blue Nile/Paul Buchanan sings about experience. There is no pain in this version.
only tom could sound as nearly as good as paul buchanan.i cry every time i hear this sweet tune.
Now now, that sweet face and clear tenor say "innocence," those skinny jeans say "experience."

Maybe a tad condescending! Of course Tom hasn't experienced the same things as Paul. Those are Paul's lyrics so obviously are the most meaningful and personal to him. Tom has had his fair share of personal trials... as the emotion in his own songs shows. Can they not just enjoying paying tribute to a great band and great song?

I feared for the song. I don't much like Keane, especially the ADHD keyboard player and his restless leg, but this wasn't a total disaster. A bit 4-on-the-floor, a wee bit boring. Hell, no-one's ever going to approach the original, but credit for trying, I suppose.
Keane makes an exceptional cover. The best after Blue Nile.
