Another nice build Dirk, I am about half way through a similar build but with the addition of a bearing & broaching press. The trick is getting them all to play nicely together without loosing any accuracy or consistency. A couple of parts from your build are better designed than mine so they will find their was onto my build, thank you kindly.

What alloy was the aluminum? 4T bullnose/die radius for 5356 and at least 2T for 5052? Otherwise the aluminum will stress crack along the outside of the bends. Also, in general, if the inner shoulders of the lower die aren't radiused or lined with paper or plastic sheets (?) there is a 'tear zone' initiated by the scoring of the die's shoulders in the 50 series sheet and plate. Sure seen lots of tanks and other marine fabrications done with knife edge upper dies that ended up ruining perfectly good aluminum sheet that doesn't act the same as steel in a press brake.
@@TheMetalistim theory that is expected work as hardening. But I see that you grinding very easy ... And you use file ! Are u sure it is hardening rod? Anyway , very good job , as usual.
Super cool project! Nice workmanship too man! If the angle on the lower die was tighter, more like the upper die, you could make bends tighter then a 90 if you needed.
I've seen a few machinist using the slide ruler you use at 0:32, but I cannot find where to buy them. The Amazon versions are cheap and insufficient looking, I want to find where to purchase the one you have. Please tell me where I can get one, thanks!
I really like the part where the video almost entirely shows him building one thing. Then he demonstrates a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT and press designed ENTIRELY DIFFERENT. And even goes so far as to assemble the original build at the end and does even bother to a piece of 24g sheet metal with it. You people are all VERY easily impressed.
You have no idea what a press brake is? The video description says it's designed for use with his custom built hydraulic press or any hydraulic press. The video shows exactly that, first we see the brake mounted on his own hydraulic press and then it's reconfigured to be used in any bog standard H frame press, exactly like I was told would happen. The actual bending brake is exactly the same, as anyone familiar with press brakes and eyeballs could tell you. Boy howdy, I'd sure be embarrassed to have posted a comment like you did...

Pure masterpiece video and one of the cleanest metal work on YT, the thread taping seems to be butter 🤩. Ya, when I was in high school screwing around in the metals shop the aluminum sheet would crack when you bent it exactly as you described.
At 14:01, it says r = 20. To me, though, it looks like the diameter is 20, not the radius.
Nicely done

Did you use a special rod to weld on the edge or just regular steel filler rod?

Why do you put a bead of weld along the fingers? Does it increase the hardness?
Very nice project, i like that is quite compact. I guess that aditional weld on edge is for strength, isn't it? What fill material was used?
Yes its a hard coating. I have to take a look on the box
hello: from minute 14:00 I see a bar with a diameter of 20 millimeters. The radius will therefore be 10 millimeters, not 20. Or am I wrong?
😂😂😂 you are 100% right, i missed that
Nice work although a minor point that bugged me, the round bar tool looks to me like 20mm diameter, which would be R10, not R20.

Hello! I need to build an r1" attachment similar to your larger piece. did you use solid bar or is that tubing?
Waouuuu !!! Very good job 👍❤
What kind of ruler are you using?
Try punching into urethane blocks/sheets hardness 60-100 d
Where and how hydraulic mounted?
It's time for you to make an Ironman welding mask project. This is quite challenging. I'm waiting for the next video.from indonesia.
Why weld the edge of the press dies at the beginning? Hardening hack?
He is using a hard facing rod (from an answer to another commenter)
Newbie here, why weld the edge at 1:30?
Bc the weld is hard, while mild steel is soft. Need the edge hard bc it will wear and deform pushing against metal
